Maximal number of chapters

How many chapters is allowed in TOC? Navigation buttons work fine with 60 chapters (landscape mode) + copyright and foreword sections.
My book has 75 chapters. In this case it is not possible to navigate in TOC. Pressing navigation button causes a jump to the (very) first page/button.
Any ideas?

Is there a way to increase the maximal number of cursors in a OracleXMLQuery object in XSU?
I have an object splitted in more than 50 tables and I need more than 50 cursors in order to get the whole object as XML.
XSU is giving me an error each time I try to get more than 50 cursors in a query:
<ERROR>oracle.xml.sql.OracleXMLSQLException: Typlaenge groesser als Hoechstwert</ERROR>
(sorry it is german, it means something like Typelength exceeds the maximal value)
It would be great if someone knows, I tried everything.

    - redifine method DO_INIT_CONTEXT, before redifine copy the existing code.
    - Add the same code to your redfined method and specify the no of max hits required.
    - if this is a custom application you can find the code in Standard Search applications like Quotation/Sale Order etc

Max. limit of number of chapters?

I submitted my ibook and now got a ticket saying something is wrong in landscape mode. The selection at the bottom does not work properly. I have 64 chapters. What is the max. limit?

In fact it seems whether it is the synchronization of the files which does not work well, " to Analyze the update of metadatas "
In the synchronization the import is correctly made, and the process of reading of metadatas seems to take place normally - but ineffective.
On the other hand, by selecting all the photos of the current file and by using the function ' Metadatas / to Read metadatas since the file ', I managed to go into Lightroom the missing metadatas.
There is thus probably not a limit of the number of keywords, but a dysfunction during their import from an external source.

A la synchronisation l'importation se fait correctement, et le processus de lecture des métadonnées semble se dérouler normalement - mais sans effet.
Par contre, en sélectionnant toutes les photos du dossier en cours et en utilisant la fonction 'Métadonnées / Lire les métadonnées depuis le fichier', j'ai réussi à rentrer dans Lightroom les métadonnées manquantes.
Il n'y a donc sans doute pas de limite du nombre de mots clés, mais un dysfonctionnement lors de leur import à partir d'une source externe.

How to auto number existing chapters?

I have chapters and a TOC already created in Pages. Some of the chapter titles were copy/paste so that they have the same chapter number (but I changed the chapter sub head). My TOC looks like this:
Chapter 1      4

Chapter 2      15
xxx
Chapter 2      24
xxx
Chapter 2       37
xxx
I did go into Inspector > Text > List > Numbers but that ends up looking like this:
1. Chapter 1      4

2. Chapter 2      15

4. Chapter 2       37
xxx
Is there a way to get the auto number in front of the word "Chapter"?
Also, will this update the chapter numbers inside the document?

Changing the Number of Chapters on a Menu

Hello,
This is my first question so I don't know if it's been answered before but I am making a training video for the company I work for and I'd like for my Scene Selection scene to only have three chapters on it at a time. Right now, there is a screen for Chapters 1-6 and one for 7-9. I would like to make this 1-3, 4-6, 7-9 but I believe that iDVD has it programmed for the current set-up. Is there any way around this?

Try this (from the help menu in iDVD):
Double-click the Scene Selection button to open the first scene menu, which has a button for each of the first group of chapters in your movie.
The number of buttons displayed depends on the number of buttons in the theme, up to 12. The button names correspond to the chapter names you set in the video-editing software. If the theme you are using contains picture buttons, the buttons contain thumbnails that match the first frame of each chapter. A menu is created for each group of chapters in your movie.
Click Themes and choose a theme for the menu that accommodates the scene buttons, or customize the existing theme if you need to.

That includes any combo of main menu markers and scene markers. Stop markers are not in the count.
There is no workaround.
In Premiere Elements 11, the program will let you add as many Timeline markers has you like, BUT you will end up with 25 nonetheless.

Max. number of chapters in FCE?

I have a FCE project with about 20 chapter markers but after the first twelve chapter markers, the remaining markers end up further down in the timeline rather than on top like the first 12. They also appear to be pink instead of green like the first 12. When I export to quicktime and import that to idvd 6, only the first 12 chapter markers show up.
Is twelve the max. number of chapter markers in FCE; and if so, what are the pink markers? I can't seem to find anything about it in the help manual.
p.s. I will have FC Pro and idv Pro in a few days. Will that solve my problem?

The pink markers are in your clips, not on the timeline - you must have had the clip selected when you inserted those markers. Clip markers are ignored when you export a sequence.
When you want to insert chapter markers, make sure you don't have a clip selected. Move the playhead to the point where you want the chapter marker & hit the M key twice; in the dialog box, give it a name, click the Chapter Marker button and click OK. You will get a green marker at the top of your timeline and they will import into iDVD.
You should go back & remove the pink markers; you will have to select the clip again to remove them. But if they are at locations where you want your chapter markers to be, you can use them as guides to place your chapter markers on the timeline.
ps. FCE supports up to 99 chapter markers in a sequence

Maximizing number of tunes on Apple TV

I have the 160Gb Apple TV but over 1 TB of songs. I typically synch playlists to by Apple TV.
If I have "playlist A" and "playlist B", with the same songs in both playlists, does the song get transferred to the Apple TV hard drive twice, or only once, with the reference point going to both playlists?
There are a number of songs that I want in 2 or more playlists, but I don't want the same song transferred to Apple TV more than once, taking up more space.
Can anyone confirm this for me? Thanks....

Using own background and changing number of chapters

Hello all,
I'm on DVDStudPro 3 and using the Oreilly "In the Studio book" by Marc Loy. Project is a wedding. I'm a newbie as you will be able to tell.
My top menu is a layered menu (ceremony, reception etc..,) and I want to create a submenu for each of the main items on the top menu; you click on ceremony and go to a submenu for the ceremony chapters. For the submenu I am using a background I have made (no layers) and want to have the chapters listed on this background. I drag the background tiff in but when I drag in the movie file and choose make chapter connections DVD wants me to choose an Apple template. I just want ALL the chapters listed by text on this submenu tiff and all on that one screen.

No my background was just a graphic I created.
I was hoping that when I dragged/added my movie to the background while choosing create chapter index & make connections that it would automatically list the chapters but it will only do that as far as I can tell if I choose a DVD template.
So when using my own background I have to write all the chapters/text on the graphic in Photoshop and then draw buttons around each chapter in DVDSP?
Figured it was like iDVD where the chaps auto appear when you drag the movie in.

What is the maximal number of personas you can add to your appearances tab?

how many persona can one download to add-ons tab and keep there to switch. i went through what seems to be a ton of them and added them. then come to check my appearance tab there'd be about 30 personas listed.

Is there a way of getting more than 6 chapters per page?

Is there a way of increasing the number of chapters per page? All the themes seem to stick to 6. I have a project with 76 chapters. That means my client will have to wade through 13 pages if they want to choose the 76th chapter! I don't need to show mini movies for each chapter - Just text. I'd like to fit 18-20 chapters on each page. I know I can achieve this with programmes like Adobe Encore - but its such a lot of work to manualy create the chapters.
Any ideas anyone?

You can increase the number of chapters per page, but there is an upper maximum of about 10-12, depending on the theme chosen.
You cannot get 18-20 chapters per page. And, do think about how your finished project will appear. 20 chapters at a time may be very crowded, hard to read the titles and confusing for the viewers.
I did a project that had over 80 chapters, and placed them 10 to a page. That gave room to have nice titles and the video snippets as the marker buttons.
To get the 10 per submenu, you will need to do Cut/Paste/Delete from the submenus. Go ahead and let iDVD create the submenus for you with 6 chapters each. I find it easier to number the chapters first.
Go to the second submenu, that has chapters 7-12. Select chapter 7 and Copy. Go back to the first submenu and Paste it. You will probably have to move the chapters around to accommodate it. Go back to submenu 2 and Delete chapter 7. Then repeat the process for chapters 8, 9, and 10. Don't forget to change the submenus title to reflect which chapters on are which page.
Then go to submenu 3 and copy/paste/delete chapters 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 back to submenu 2. Leave 18 for now or you will lose that submenu. Go to submenu 4 and move chapters 19 and 20 to submenu 3. Now move chapter 18 to submenu 2.
Keep moving the chapters until you get the 10 per page on 8 submenus.
I don't know if DVDSP can have so many chapters per menu, but if you are fairly knowledgeable about such a program, you may want to look into it.

Make a PDF Portfolio with Chapters work on an iPad

Hi, I have created a PDF Portfolio document for iPad. I built the document in InDesign as a Digital Publication (iPad 768x1024,vertical only). The portfolio contains a number of chapters with each chapter containing a number of pages. I’ve built navigation hyperlinks into the PDF file in Acrobat DC. The PDF Portfolio file works perfectly on desktop computers and I am able to view all chapter and pages, but when I try to open it on an iPad I just get directed to ‘download Acrobat X or Adobe Reader X, or later’. I’ve tried opening it on 3 different iPads that are all running the latest version of Acrobat DC Reader and get the same message every time.
I tried making a second version of the file without the combining the chapters into a PDF Portfolio in Acrobat DC, just running all of the pages together in a single file, with hyperlinks on the contents page and it works perfectly on the iPad. So how can I get it to work on an iPad as a Portfolio with Chapters, can you give me any advice?

I presume that "chapters" are individual PDF documents that are contained in your PDF Portfolio.
Adobe Reader/Acrobat DC mobile apps (for iOS and Android) support the hyperlink to jump to a page view within the same PDF document or open a web page (http://... or https://...). Unfortunately, the Adobe Reader/Acrobat DC mobile apps do not support the hyperlink to open a different PDF document (regardless of whether it is included in a Portfolio or not).
Please note that most mobile PDF viewers for iOS and Android do not support Portfolios.
To make your PDF document compatible with any PDF viewers on desktop computers and mobile devices, I'd recommend the second version - "all of the pages together in a single file with hyperlinks".

Confusion with chapters vs. sections

Reviewing the InDesign support documents, I found this:
"You can add a chapter number variable to your document. Like page numbers, chapter numbers can be updated automatically and formatted and styled as text. A chapter number variable is commonly used in documents that are part of a book. A document can have only one chapter number assigned to it; if you want to divide a single document into chapters, you can create sections instead."
I'm assuming this does NOT mean that documents can't have multiple chapters numbered 1, 2, 3... since that is possible. If that's the case, what does this mean when it says "a document can only have one chapter number assigned to it"?
Does this mean only one chapter variable per document, where sections would allow you to be more flexible with numbers and order?

I agree that is worded rather confusingly in the InDesign Help.
If you want to use the Chapter Number text variable to automatically number your chapters, you will need to build each chapter (and a chapter is generally an InDesign Section as well) as a single InDesign document. This is because an InDesign document can only have ONE Chapter Number value assigned.
So if you were to build a single InDesign document with 10-Chapters, each being an InDesign section, then by default each Chapter Number would be "1".
To work with multiple Chapters and use the Chapter Number text variable for numbering the chapters:
build a chapter template containing all masters, styles etc.
use this template as the base for building the individual InDesign documents for each Chapter in your publication
create a File > New > Book and Add (Chapters) Documents to the InDesign Book
*then renumber the Chapter Number from within the InDesign Book panel: the Chapter Numbers in the InDesign Book will automatically be updated.

How to create automatically numbered chapters?

If I write a number of chapters and then wish to delete or add some in the middle, the numbers above them will get out of order. It would be fantastic to be able to create a list style that numbers the chapters automatically like in a numbered list, but with a number being above and a block of text below. Is something like this:
