Maximize instead of opening new tab

I want firefox to maximize a tab with a certain page, instead of loading a new tab, if a dektop shortcut pointing to that certain page is opened. Is this possible?

This is a nifty answer for an option that is built into Windows 7, although it is not for a tab but from a shortcut and a customized homepage :
However you may be able to set the homepage with two tabs from this menu:
Firefox Menu > Options > General

• Opening URL from OS X e-mail overwrites instead of opening new tab

Havent seen this before, and found no search hits on here.
I have my Safari preferences to "Automatically" open a new tab with a new link open.  When I do this within Safari it works as expected (adds a tab to the right of all open tabs).  I also have the "make a new tab the active window" option checked which works fine.
However when I click on a link in an e-mail (OS X Mail 6.2 (1499)), instead of the usual behavior it overwrites a random tab in safari and makes it active.  Whatever was in that old tab (might be the third tab in an inactive window) is gone.  Only way I can get it back is to reopen windows from last session.
Only change I have made recently is the 2.0 updater for mid-2012 Macbook Pros.
Any ideas?  I have trashed the ~/Library/Preference

Replying to myself and bumping this up.
This behavior mysteriously stopped for a few weeks, so I forgot about it. Today, it started again. And it is not consistent: some links that I click in emails open a new window, as they are supposed to, but some links in emails pull up a random Safari window from my dock, and overwrite a random tab. Worse yet, the back button is grayed out, so I cannot even return to the page that was overwritten. So now I have to get back into the habit of reading an email, and if there is a link I want to click, I have to switch over to Safari, create a new window, then go back into mail and click the link. Frustrating!
Is Apple ever going to address this?

• Links open in a new browser instead of a new tab. I do have "open new windows in a new tab instead" ticked

Hi
I am using Windows 7 on my desktop and today my Firefox browser opens links from emails in a new browser instead of a new tab.
I do have "open new windows in a new tab instead" , under tools; options, Tabs ticked.
I have tried unticking it and then re-ticking it but neither make any difference.
Hope you can help!

Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
* https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
* Troubleshooting extensions and themes
In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>Safe mode</u>:
* Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
* Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

• Home Button opens new tab instead of opening page in current tab.

How do I get the home button in Firefox 4 to open the home page in the existing tab instead of a new tab?

I recently noticed that I started having this problem. I use an add-on called "Tab Utilities" which is updated to version 1.1.2 There are settings in the options which open new tabs in various ways, and a setting to open a new tab upon pressing home was selected. Deselecting that option fixed this problem for me.

• Why is Firefox opening a separate browser window for each link instead of a new tab in the current browser window?

Suddenly firefox has started opening a new, separate browser window for every link and thing I open. It used to just open a new tab in the current browser. I must have closed down 15 browsers when trying to get back to a previous web page - the back button doesn't work when each click leads to a new window opening! I went into options and my settings have not changed, they still say "open new tab" for links. This just started happening out of the blue today. What's up?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See Troubleshooting extensions and themes and Troubleshooting plugins
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

• How do I get Safari to switch to new webpages on the same tab instead of opening new ones?

Hello! Recently my Safari has been opening new tabs whenever I click on a link, which is not what I want. I just want to have a single tab open that lets me click on whatever I want and still stay on that one tab. This has never happened before, and it's really bothering me to have to close out of tabs and go back to the original where I started from.
I'd appreciate it greatly if anyone has some advice or suggestions! Thanks!

Okay, I'm confused. I was using Yahoo as my default search engine and as soon as I switched over to Google, it stopped. I don't understand why the search engine would make it do that, but it's whatever now that it's fixed. Thanks anyway!

• I cant open new tabs and instead have to open new windows - vert frustrating

I cannot open new tabs in the firefox browser. (this has only just started happening. previously it worked fine)
I have tried a number of different ways and it doesnt open.
Internet explorer does not have the same problem

Disable the Ask Toolbar extension - it is known to cause a problem with opening new Tabs in Firefox 3.6.13.

• Open new tab from any webpage, click any link on new tab, waits till the page is loaded and try to go back one page on new tab (arrow is disabled).

It happens whenever I open new tab from any wabpage. Once the tab is opened and initial webpage is loaded I may use any link to jump on another, second webpage in same tab. However, if I want to go back on initial webpage I can't do it cause that option (arrow) is disabled. I could use link on second webpage to jump on third, and only at that moment go back option becomes available again. However, I could not ever go back on initial webpage any more. As initial webpage has never existed.
It happens quite often (95%).

Right click the Back button and select the page you want to go back to from the list.
If the list is too long to display via the Back button, hit CTRL+H, change the view to "Last Visited" and then load it from there instead.

• How can I get Firefox 8 to open new tabs at the end?

Hi,
I know there's a way to make Firefox open new tabs at the end instead of this really annoying forced 'open new tabs next to open tab behaviour'. Can anyone help me find it?
Thanks!
Evan

You can set the pref <b>browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent</b> to <i>false</i> on the <b>about:config</b> page.
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default via the right-click context menu if they are user set
*Preferences can be changed via the right-click context menu: Modify (String or Integer) or Toggle (Boolean)

• The open new tab (+ sign button) unexpectedly stopped working when I click on the + sign why?

The + sign button that opens a new tab (called Untitled) stopped working. When I go to File, and click on New Tab, that does not work either. I checked the Options and made sure the "Open new window in new tab instead was checked. I tried System Restore, and I downloaded and installed Firefox 5.0. The + sign still does not work. This problem in on my desktop. I checked my laptop and the open new tab + sign button is working fine. What is happening?

• Am unable to click and open new tabs using the new tab button after downloading the newest version of firefox?

have recently downloaded the newest version of firefox. after installing i am happy to say i am pleased with the new look and features etc though for some reason i am unable to open new tabs as before.
i now have to right click on bookmarks or favorites and select open in a new tab to do so, rather than simply clicking on the new tab button..

If the problem turns out to be the "New Tabs at the End" extension, there actually is an internal setting for this that you could use instead.
(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste tabs and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click the browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent preference to switch it from true to false. That's it.

• Open new tab closes first one

As recently as yesterday, I have noticed that when I go to open a new tab in a firefox window, instead of opening a new one, the screen goes white.
And then when I press "open new tab" again, a new one opens, but but instead of the first one staying on the website that was open when I went to open a new tab, the window is blank.
Is there anyway I can fix this issue? It's quite annoying to have to go back to the websites I wanted and press the "open new tab" button twice.
I've also tried with control + T but the problem still occurs.
I've included some screenshots to show it: http://imgur.com/jaJviRu,z4EeWe8,xI2yYKB
I'd appreciate any help.

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings and disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
(If you're using an added theme, switch to the Default theme.)
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu by clicking on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item:<br>
<br><br>
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

• When I key in control-n, how can I get a new window instead of a new tab?

I would like to get a new window instead of a new tab when I key control-n or when I click on a link. Can I do this?

Hey mickeyten
1 way to do this is that Goto Options > Tabs > Here Uncheck this Option: Open a new window in a new tab instead.
This will open a new window each time time for every New Link or New Tab you open.
Hope this helps you alot.
Thanks,

• Youtube window minimizes when opening new tab

Hi,
So.. I have a problem
I'm using Macbook Pro Retina 15 (early 2013) with Yosemite and Safari. When I'm watching Youtube videos, and YT is the only tab open i can maximize the window so it's really big (not full screen), but when I open new tab, and get back to the YT, window gets smaller (cant change it via YT navigation). Closing every other tab except YT helps, and everything goes back to normal, big window again. Any thoughts ?
Thanks
