Maximize size and other beginner Qs

hello.
just got mac and can someone help me with a few questions:
1. frustrated by internet screen size..the green orb..when i press it screen doesnt maximize..i went into systems preferences and displays and messed about with that and dragged the bottom right across to stretch the screen....is this how you all did it? the screen only comes down to just above the icons lined up along the bottom thoogh
2. when i have downloaded some things i am not sure where they go...eg. i downloaded messenger for mac and the only way to find it is via the search function at top right...some things have gone into downloads...some into applications...eg, in applications there is only crossover but when i click on mac hard-drive icon at top right it includes a few other things..it all seems random
any insight here?
3. also, is the ichat thing betwwen mac and mac only? most of the features on this thing are a mystery to me ...is there an equivalent of word installed? if so, where?
note:. i bought my mac i japan (where i am living) so didnt get an english manual...any help appreciated

There is no manual. If your using English as your language, then you can use Help. Also, I would also suggest you take a look at Mac 101 and Switch 101.
1. To maximize screen size click the green button and drag it out to max then click the green button again. You should now be able to toggle between the 2 sizes? (No, it won't cover Dock or Toolbar unless the application runs in full screen mode).
2.Downloaded Applications should be placed in your /Applications folder. The .dmg can be ejected and trashed.
3. iChat is not Mac only, it works with AIM.

Holding Spotlight window size and others

Hope this is easy no brainer that I can't remember- When I open spotlight into it's finder window (I am using cover flow mode) I have to always resize it to a larger view. How can I get it to remember the last open window size? I see this happen in some others windows as well.

Unfortunately, no. This is done by each application, and if you delete the files, they'll come back each time you use the app again (and for most apps, you'll lose all their "preferences" as well.)
Many apps will resize their windows to fit on (but not necessarily fill) the screen, if you click the green button in their menubars. In most cases that's probably not what you want, but may be the best you can do.
The only other option I can think of is to find some way to use the same resolution for both monitors.

Prev. Systems Folder sizes and other folders appear after Arch and Install

Five days ago I did a successful Archive and Install and I now have on my external HD not only the Previous Systems Folder but two other folders, one named 'home' and one named 'net' - both empty. They do not appear on my Internal HD.
I have two questions:
1- The Previous Systems Folder on my HD is 5.7 GB; the Previous Systems Folder on my external HD is 31.02 GB!! Why such a difference? (And no wonder my Deja Vu backups are taking 5 hours.)
2-Is it OK to trash the empty 'home' and 'net' folders when I finally trash the Previous Systems Folders? Do they have any continuing purpose?

Best size and specs for Wallpaper photos?

If I want to import some of my jpegs for iPhone wallpaper, what's the optimal size (and other specs, like resolution)?

I wouldn't recommend having lots of huge picture files on ur iPhone...make a folder of smaller versions of the pictures. I think 480-by-320 looks great already...if you want you can add up a little more than that if your going to plan on zooming in to an object/person on the photo (if there's more than one person on the pic) and just crop that one person for your wallpaper then go for a little more than 480x320...

Best Font for Subtitles? and other General Subtitling questions?

I've never had to use subtitles, until my current project, so I am looking for some general advice and suggestions.
I will be using PPCS3 (on XPpro) as the subtitles (as in the kind that translate a foreign language) will be permanent.
So here are my questions:
1. What is the best font and or what is the most standard font for subtitles? (Font size and other characteristics may be worth mentioning here too.)
2. Is it possible to have an outline around the text as opposed to shadow?
3. What are some general rules of thumb for subtitles that apply to broadcast and cinematic productions?

How come sometimes the Ken Burns effect allows you to edit the entire picture, and other times it automatically starts at a smaller section of the photo?

How come, in imovie, when adding the Ken Burns effect to a still photo, sometimes the phoo appears as the full size, and other times, the green and red ken burns boxes appear only on a smaller portion of the picture? I want to be able to Ken Burns a bigger chunk of a picture, but often times it is as if there is a pre-set for just how much the Ken Burns will cover.

Is it possible that the ones that have small boxes are in Portrait while the ones with large boxes are in Landscape?
If so, you can get bigger boxes on the Portrait ones by clicking "Allow Black" in iMovie 11. (iMovie 09 did not have this feature.)

Default setting to create a magazine. Size and etc

I am trying to create a magazine and would like to know what settings should I keep. Right now I think A4 is the standard size. But there is a Legal size that is somewhat the same size.
If any expert/guru know the best settings and tweaks that please reply to the post.

For size and other document settings (bleed, etc.) you should talk to the printer you will be using before you begin. They can assist you in choosing the size that will be the most economical for their presses and the quantities you will be printing. As far as the rest, it's hard to say without knowing how much you already know, but you can come back here for help with the specifics.

The Maximize/Restore button only changes the size of the Firefox window, not that of content on web pages.
You may have accidentally zoomed out on that site, or the site may simply have smaller text than others.

How can I customize window size and have it stay that way? It automatically maximizes the moment I click anywhere on the page.

I have added a large widescreen monitor and now have a two-screen set up. This taxed my old video card, so we replaced that, too. Then I updated Firefox. Now my window automatically maximizes. "Restore" is the same size as "Maximize", and I can resize it if I carefully drag and drop all four corners. But if I click on the top bar to relocate the resized window, it re-maximizes. I can't find any options or settings that allow me to fix the window size, lock a customized window size, etc. IE8 is not doing this, so I don't think it's the monitor or desktop settings.

Hi there. I'm having the same problem: my iPad won't import some photos from a folder, saying that they can't be read. They are all JPEGS and some photos taken at the same time have synched fine, but out of a folder with 200 photos, it only lets me synch 37. I'm synching albums created via Photoshop Elements 6, which has worked fine until now.
I've tried deleting all photos and re-synching, and have also deleted the iPod Photo Cache, but it hasn't made a difference.
The iPad auto-updated to the latest version of iTunes, so maybe that's what's causing it?
Any advice gratefully received!

The MTU setting on the interface is the layer 3 packet size. In this case, the MTU is set to 1500, but the largest frame size transmitted on the interface (including layer 2 headers) is 1516. It sounds like you are experiencing another problem at the LES.

Hi,
In case of sap script u can not. But in case of smartforms u can assign one format for 1 page and 2 format for 2 page it is possible.
In Global setting -> Form Attributes -> Output Options define your format.
Rewards points if it is useful.

Adjust front panel to screen size and re-position objects on different systems automatically

Hello, i have designed a vi that contains 5 led's placed at the 4 corners and center of the front panel which occupies the entire screen. However, this vi is to be used on different systems having different screen sizes. But on every screen, i'll need the front panel size = screen size and the led's to be placed to the centers and corner of this new screen size automatically without any manual operations and positioning bieng done every time. Will the resize option perform this task completely or do i have to go for some other techniques?

As far as I know, what you want is not easy to do but it is doable but you have to programmatically do it (no Labview setting). Here is an example for only 2 LEDs but I suppose that you will be able to make it work for your other LEDs.
This VI maximizes the front panel and then positions the 2 LEDs in the center and top right corner upon running. The LEDs are positioned according to their own top left corners, not according to their centers.

Is there a posibility to change the size of a table control dynamically to maximize the screen utilization keeping in mind , the different screen size and resolution. This is to increase the breadth of the table control that there is maximum utilization of screen and which would not produce any horizontal scroll bar in case of small size monitors.Kindly advice.

There is no such control that you can put into the programming logic to enhance the visual appearance of the table controls or screens. This is taken care of by SAP GUI, which will adjust the display size of the table control according to the screen resolution.
