Maximizing Compatibility in PS question

I imported a folder of images into LR and got a message saying some PSD files were not imported because they had not been Maximized for Compatibility in PS. I saved the list to a txt document and can see all the filenames.
If I open a file and save it over itself using the old filename, I don't see a check box to turn on the Maximize for Compatibility feature. Am I missing the option? Any suggestions?
Thanks,
M. Jackson

Update:
I printed out the list and opened each one, turning off a layer, then back on and saved the file over itself with Maximize Compatibility set as default in the prefs. When I tried to sync the folder, I got the same message as before. Photoshop did not honor the Maximize Compatiblity pref on the second save.
I more or less gave up on this and have now saved each one as a tif, as suggested earlier, and deleting the old layered PSD files.
I wouldn't call this an elegant solution, but it is a solution.
These layered files are scattered in about twenty various folders within one main folder. It didn't make a lot of sense to try to run an action on the entire folder when there were only one or two files in random subfolders.
This is more of a Photoshop (CS3) problem than a LR problem as far as I can tell.
Thanks for all the input.

How to restore "Always ignore" selection pressed on Low IL compat mode / EPM question in IE10 on Windows 7 x64?
In a previous question I asked where the Whitelist is and how to modify it but now I have clients that seem to gotten stuck after pressing "Always ignore" and then the question to run outside EPM does not come up anymore and also the Whitelist
    stops working.
I need to get the "Question" back so the user can select to disable EPM on a per site basis (and to re-enable the Whitelist already set by login script).

So it's not the same.  ActiveXFiltering is definitely blue.  And there would be another indicator in the Address bar.
still hoping that Microsoft And Adobe solves this BUG. It has to be one of the most common cases of all when it comes to an
    external viewer embedded in IE11.
You have just reminded me of another closely related case I have to test when I get to a W7sp1 Pro X64 system I have intermittent access to

So the common factors are embedded media, IE11 and W7sp1.  In the case of the video though I'm not sure where W8.1 is getting its control--seems not to be from Flash support and not something that is controllable by Manage Add-ons.  But I
doubt that it really matters which control it is; the type of it probably matters more.
In case it gets us somewhere diagnosing your case, can you try that example too please?

  • .psd files over 500mb will not place unless saved at "maximum compatability"

I am trying to use InDesign in place of a software RIP in order to print art reproductions on a large format printer. I need to print the same image at different sizes and be able to pull them up and print rapidly. InDesign is faster at printing than Photoshop since the files load so quickly and I can change the print size very quickly vs. photoshop.
My print files vary from 250mb to 800mb as these are very large fine art reproductions. I am not in the habbit of saving my .psd files with the "maximize file compatibility" flag in order to save on disk space. Files under approx. .5gb will place into InDesign CS2 fine despite this with a warning that performance will suffer but once I get into 600mb files it shows up a small black box with several white pixels in it instead of the image and no matter how much I zoom I cannot read what is apparantly written in the box. No other warning is given and when I try to print the same black box is output to the printer.
    see the image here:
    http://www.schoellerfineart.com/adobe-error.GIF
If I use a 600+mb file with maximized compatability on it will display and print fine. Is there a way to avoid maximizing file compatability on these larger files other than flattening the image? I need to be able to adjust color/densities frequently on these images but saving 2 versions will eat up disk space real fast and takes quite some time to do.
    Best, Tim

What are the system specs? I've places images that large with no problem

  • Crystal Reports 2008 Excel Export Compatibility Patch - second attempt :)

Hello, I actually have a question related to the following thread, so I posted there and was recommended to start a new thread:
Crystal Reports 2008 Excel Export Compatibility Patch?
Question is related to the following doc, specifically, is this patch still available for CR 2008 or not?:
    http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/cr2008V1/en/xi3_cr2008eecp_readme_en.pdf
A response from Don suggested this wasnt available for CR 2008 although this is confusing since the doc refers to CR 2008. My response was as follows and is essentially the question I still have (more so because we have another PeopleSoft/Oracle customer whos come across this doc and wants to know how to apply the fix for CR 2008). Thanks very much in advance!
Hi Don, I know this is an old thread, but Im also running into the same issue and am confused by your statement since the referenced PDF doc says this patch is available for CR 2008. Did you mean that the patch is no longer available or supported for CR 2008 for some reason? If so, any idea why?
Im a developer for Oracle/PeopleSoft and our PeopleSoft suite includes OEM Crystal. We recently upgraded to CR 2008 for our latest release and we are getting the same complaint from a few customers about not being able to output the XLS in Excel 8.0 compatiibility mode like before (In Crystal 9, we used the \Export\Excel\CompatVersion=80 registry key to enable this). So if this patch is available, it would be a huge benefit for us to be able to point our customers to it. If not, please still let me know eitherway.
    Thanks very much!
    Andrew

    Hi Andrew,
So the story is the Rubik's patch has been available from CR 9 up until CR XI R1 as a simple download. In R2 and above to get it you have to log a case, work with a Report Rep to try to design your reports so they use the new export dll. To get you by until you have time to do so, and after filling out a query for the PM to get info on how to possibly improve the updated export dll to meet your needs, he will then send you the patch on the agreement that this is the LAST time you ask for it.
Support no longer has access to the patch so all requests must go through the Program Manager who keeps tract of who received it.
Bottom line is you need to update the reports to use the new export model.
That old legacy dll was bugging and impossible to maintain.
You can [purchase a support case here|http://store.businessobjects.com/store/bobjamer/DisplayProductByTypePage&parentCategoryID=&categoryID=54722300].
This is not a bug and has been this way for 10 years now, time to update your export model and Excel Macro's....
    Thank you for your understanding

  • Remove 'Maximize Compatibility' on pre-existing PSDs...

Preferably via a batch function, since I have 50 or 60 files... maybe more, that I've been saving with maximized compatibility. I don't need the feature and never did, but used it because I was being ignorant and 'better safe than sorry'-minded.
    Anyone have any ideas?
I tried disabling 'Maximize Compatibility' and re-saving the files, but this didn't result in reduced file sizes as far as I can tell.

Set your file handling preference for Maximise Compatibility to "Never". Record an Action of "Save As" with any file - the name and location will be overriden when using the Batch setup in the screenshot that follows the Action screenshot. It definitely works with CS6 on OS X 10.6.8, at least.

  • Maximize Compatibility vs Storage Optimization

I'm working on a new project that will require me to store thousands of PS files. I have noticed that the maximum compatibility option affects the end files size significantly. For example the original autogenerated PS file starts at 32 MB, and jumps to 57 MB when saved to maximize compatibility and shrinks to 21 MB when the option is not selected. What exactly am I losing by not maximizing compatibility? If it is just the file preview image and the ability to use on very old builds of PS, it might be worth the savings on storage space. The PS files don’t contain any new features where backsaving will be an issue.  I was able to open the non-max comp file in CS2 with all its layers. I've attached a link to the example file I'm referring to. Thanks for the help.

Nothing more than you mentioned comes to mind.
Only thing about the composite previews (that won't be generated/saved) is that non-Adobe software may rely upon them.  That said, many 3rd party programs now can see into .psd files and deal with the contents.  The FastPictureViewer codec pack is one such example - it can thumbnail even .psd files not saved with Max Compat.
For what it's worth, I switched to Maximize Compatibility: Never quite a while ago, and I have had no problems.  I don't share my .psd files with others much.

  • How do I know what video card will be compatable?

Hi,  I think I need a new video card, but I'm really not sure what new card will be compatable with my computer , an HP m9077c that operates with Vista.I see it has an Nvidia Geforce 8500 gt in it now, but looking for new ones to buy I see things like (XFX PVT 86JYAHG GEforce 8500 GT 450mhz 512mbgddr2svideo/dvi/vga/pci express16 ) for $35 , but then I see right next to it plain old GEforce 8500 gt for $111. What's the difference?I just want a replacement, it doesn't even have to be the same brand, as long as it will work as well or better. How can I tell which one will be compatable?
    This question was solved.

    Hi:
I would go for a newer video card like this one.
It should perform along the lines as your 8500 or better.

  • Constant crashing; I think Mozilla on my new Windows 7 thinks it's still operating in XP, although I'm not sure, being computer challenged.

Ever since I started using Mozilla Firefox on my new Windows 7 computer it has crashed -- sometimes a few times a day, sometimes every ten minutes. I will copy the error message details at the end of this, if I can. I have tried numerous technicians and no one has been able to solve it. (I did reset Firefox more than once.) Just today, right clicking on the Firefox icon and going to compatability, I discovered that "Windows XP" was in the window instead of Windows 7. With the help of a Frontier technician (my internet provider) I changed that from Windows XP to Windows 7. We rebooted the computer, hoisted up Firefox, right-clicked on the icon, and sure enough it said "Windows 7" in the compatability window. However, after a short while Firefox crashed again. Right-clicking on the Firefox icon, I saw that it had reverted to "Windows XP" in the compatability window. Questions: Would Firefox's confusion about whether it was on a Windows XP or a Windows 7 computer cause crashes? Why would Firefox's compatability window revert from Windows 7 back to Windows XP? I have a theory, but I am not an expert: A local technician came in and transferred my Firefox from my WIndows XP computer to my WIndows 7 computer. I don't know whether he installed Firefox from your website or simply transferred the program from my XP computer. However, I asked him to keep my bookmarks. I have an icon on my Windows 7 computer: "Old Firefox Files." I thought that these files (there are four of them, all containing pretty much the same thing) were just my bookmarks, but looking at them today, it looks to me as if they contain the whole Firefox program from my XP computer. My inexpert theory: Firefox is reverting from WIndows 7 to Windows XP because my transferred bookmarks are XP-based. A Frontier technician today suggested I uninstall and re-install Firefox. Sounds like a good idea to me, however I am afraid that my old bookmarks will again confuse Firefox about whether it's in an XP or Windows 7 OS. Bookmarks are essential to the way I use my computer. In fact, many technicians suggested that I use Chrome instead of Firefox, but Chrome does not have an easily accessed bookmark list, like Firefox does in its vertical bookmark window. (Also, I would rather not have anything to do with Google.) Of course, I may be completely wrong about it being my bookmarks and the files transferred from my XP that are screwing up Firefox. Basically: Constant crashes and error messages; compatability window reverts from Windows 7 to Windows XP for some reason; bookmarks and other old Firefox program files have been put on this Windows 7 computer. What do you think I should do to keep Firefox from crashing?
Here (hopefully) is the error message I get when Firefox crashes. It crashes no matter what website I am on at the moment:

  • TS1369 2nd generations Ipod Shuffle with Windows 8?

How do you get a 2nd generations Ipod Shuffle compatible with Windows 8? (it works on just fine in earlier versions)
If you plug it in through a USB connection it blinks orange/green really really fast. It is not recognized neither by Itunes or Windows (PC), Not recognized nor taking any charge.
I first thought it just came to the end of its life, but then plugging it in with my old laptom (Windows XP) and another laptop (Widows Vista) it worked just fine.
I have the newest version of all my software, so this has to be a driver compatibility issue, the question has Apple solved it yet?

I asked about the USB docking cable because some folks who also have a 3rd or 4th gen shuffle were trying to use the cable from those shuffles with a 2nd gen shuffle.  Or they bought a replacement part that is for the 3rd or 4th gen shuffle.  It fits, but the connector is different, so it does not work.
You have determined that the shuffle and its cable work properly when connected to a different computer.  Since the Windows 8 computer is a new computer that was not used with this shuffle before, the cause could be related to the computer's hardware or software.
As a test, if you have another device that is similar to an iPod, such as a USB flash drive or a mini external hard drive that is powered by the USB port (not something low-power like a mouse or keyboard), connect it to the computer's USB port to confirm the port does generally work for other things.
If the USB port is confirmed to work for other devices, if you have a USB hub, as another test, connect the hub to the USB port.  Perferably, the hub is the type that is self-powered (has its own power supply).  Connect the shuffle to the hub to see if that makes any difference if the hub is between the iPod and the computer.

  • ITunes w/ iPod touch 2d gen & iPhone 4S... ?

I learned that my iPod touch 2d gen 32gb will no longer be supported, during the same week that I learned I am eligible for a phone upgrade. After doing a bunch of research, (I can't believe I'm saying this) I'm thinking iPhone 4S 16gb. It would be my first iPhone.
    Is this utterly stupid?
In the time I've owned my iPod touch, iTunes has wiped it so often, and eaten ITSELF so many times, that since winter 2009 I have developed some anxiety about sync'ing, and about using iTunes generally. Like, I cringe everytime I touch the connector, and my palms hurt when I plug it into the device. I have kept the software up to date. Perhaps this is the problem?
Does anyone out there use an old iPod touch and a new iPhone (4S) with the same instance of iTunes and the same Apple account? Does it work? Is it a nightmare?
I know that these software/hardware relationships are crazy complicated, but I can't shake the feeling that Apple either doesn't take our data seriously, or needs to come up with a 'thief-identification' algorithm that knows the difference between a messed-up software update and a copyright/license infringer/violator.
What I'm reading on the boards and hearing in meatspace about the iPhone and sync'ing with iTunes, is the opposite of reassuring.

My question is about version compatibility. The question again, minus the chattiness:
My iPod touch = 2nd gen, meaning, it's a 2008 device, meaning: no iOS 5. Will it still sync with the newest version of iTunes?
I might be getting the iPhone 4S. A 2011 device. Which runs on iOS5 and needs the newest version of iTunes.
Is there a way I'll be able to sync these two chunks of hardware, of radically disparate ages/generations with the same instance of iTunes?

  • I have a psd file made in Photoshop CS5 which I have to send to a Graphic Designer who works with the old Photoshop Version CS3. He can`t open the psd.

What to I have to do now? Is there the same possibility as in InDesign to export it as an Interchange Format (IDML), so that he can open the document without any problems?
    Thank you for your help...

Those are the three possible settings – which one have you chosen?
Regardless, if the psd file has been saved in Photoshop CS5 with Maximized Compatibility it should be able to be opened in Photoshop CS3.

  • Can Final cut pro 7 and Final cut X live together

I just spoke to one of my friends who installed Final cut pro X and told me that it basically crushed his version of 7. My idea here was to install final cut X to start learning the new workflow and keep my version of Final cut 7 for compatibility issues. Question is can these two live together on the same machine?
Please note my friend is the type of guy that if he does not see the software icon in the dock it basically does not exist.

  • Some Photoshop images don't show

Searching Adobe web documentation did not turn up an answer. Win7 64-bit, lots of RAM, Ivy Bridge i7 3970 processor. (i7 for sure... I think I got the processor number right...)
I use Bridge CC. *Some* of my Photoshop (CC) images are remaining icons only. Most open as thumbnails in Bridge. Perhaps this is because these files have multiple layers? Tiffs open.
Note: I have file handling in PS CC set to ALWAYS maximize compatibility.
I do notice that if I right click a working thumbnail I see a line in the context menu "Generate a high-quality thumbnail" This is missing when I do the same thing on a file represented by icon only.
Double-clicking one of these icons opens the right file in Photoshop CC.
Any suggestions of how to get everything to show?

Thanks for the correction. This matter was easily resolved but saving files with maximized compatability.
