Maximum Artboard Size (Not Canvas Size)

Hi,
I read that maximum canvas size is 227in but Illustrator CC on both mac and windows and several different computer does not allow me to exceed 120in x 120 in. I can change my artboard size manually (shift+o) and drag the corners to 227inches but the number on the right upper corner is stuck on 120 inches. So what is the maximum size that I can work in Illustrator? If it is 227in why can't I make an Artboard bigger than 120 inches? And to avoid more confusion what is the canvas and what is the art board?
Thank you

mus,
When things become seriously weird, as in your case, it may be worth trying the list (you have been through 1) and 2) already, and I would suggest your skipping 3) and 5), which leaves 4) and 6).
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file, and when it is not caused by issues with opening a file from external media, see below. You may have tried/done some of them already; 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save current artwork first, of course.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to at least 5 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible), for CS3 - CC you may find the folder here:
https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/preference-file-location-illustrator.html
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall (ticking the box to delete the preferences), run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

    Hello / Asalam-o-Alekum
I want to learn some about Windows Vs Canvas size, You all knows very well that in the organization people using different monitors/LCDS/ and Laptops, and in Laptops having different size of screen.
Now I want that system sense/judge/pick the Monitors/LCD/Laptops size and shrink / expnad accordingly and canvas (simple canvas or Canvas with BITMAP file) as well.
What will be the best solution in the regard.
Can any one send me the example.

A window, can be imagined as an empty frame e.g as a pic's frame. The frame the ability to maximize, minimize, scroll, move, etc. and even close the window...
This can be done either from the windows's property for the permentant changes of a form or programatically in such a case or a condition u specify using ...
    When-Window-Closed ,Set_window_property etc.
A window must contain at least one canvas if no canvas exist u will see a gray empty frame; the window with no eyesss
A canvas , can be consider the eyes for the window or the pic itself for a frame ; it's items must be visible & this canvas must be assigned to that window...
Therefore, canvases and windows rely on each other to make themselves and other Forms objects ...
A canvas-view is the background object on which you layout the interface items (text-items, check boxes, radio groups, and so on.)
The size of the canvas and the size of its viewport are determined by properties.
CANVAS VIEWPORTS (VIEWS)The terms “canvas view” and “viewport” are synonymous. The viewport refers to the area of the canvas that is visible to the user. What this means is that the canvas object itself is not always entirely visible; only the area defined by its viewport is visible.
What will be the best solution in the regard1.is to use the same Vega Card Regarding hardware and off couse this is not practical to every one.
but this will facilitate for the developper & the user the display of a form with the same configuration and screen resolution.
2.For Web side pls use the same formsWeb.cfg , Width & Height 100% , same browsers the certified with the forms & Os u use.
    Hope this helps...

  • Bug in Acrobat Reader 8 & 9? "Actual size" not actual size

When I choose to view a PDF in "actual size" using Adobe Acrobat Reader 8 or 9, it is NOT actual size.  Under Acrobat Reader 7, it WAS actual size.
For example, if I go to the properties of the document and find out that it is supposed to be an 8.5 x 11 document, the document on screen is not 8.5 x 11.
This used to work under Acrobat 7, but doesn't work under Acrobat 8 or 9.  It used to be that you could hold an 8.5 x 11 piece of paper up to your monitor and the size of the image on screen was exactly 8.5 x 11, but now if I do the same thing, the size on the monitor does not match the actual size of the paper.
Is this a bug or something else?

The screen size is 17" and the current resolution is 1024 x 1280 (it is in "portrait" mode), but it happens at every resolution I've tested.

  • Help, mostly with rendering size, not file size, actual size

I made a short 4 second movie in after effects cs5, there are really no fancy effects, just a car with wheels turning driving across the screen, the size is super small at 167px width x 315px height. It's 30 fps.  It's from a set of three, I have no major issues with the other two but for some reason, when I render this one, it comes out super blurry/pixelated and the size is twice of what it should be, it's not too size of how I built it, and I can't resize it.  I think it looks so bad because it isn't coming out the right size, but I can not for the life of me figure out why. This is for my job, and I have to show it to the higher ups so I need it to look as crisp as possible. Any ideas what would make this happen? I've rendered so many different times, i brought it into Adobe media encoder, I feel like I am just missing some little switch, but can't find it. I render quicktime as an animation, it's so small, it doesn't matter if I do animation.  I've tried at the default settings of best and lossless, I've changed things, I am not sure what else I should do, anybody have any insight? I can provide more info if needed, thanks so much in advanced!

167x315 is your comp size for all three comps and you know this absolutely.
Your render settings are exactly the same for each of the three comps and you know this absolutely.
You shoudl be able to examine the properties of the output movies by either brining them back into AE or using the inspector in QT. Each will show a movie size and a display size. A tiny movie, like 167x315, will look awful if played at normal viewing size of 640x480 because it will be scaled up by twice, each pixel will be four times its native size. That can happen when a flag gets set in QT to display a movie at full screen size which is different from the falge that sets it to display full size.
    Double check everything.
You shoudl be able to render out comp 1, which is good, and then dleete everything in comp 1 and fill it up with stuff copied and pasted out of comp 3. Then you use the exact same render settings again.

  • Export original size not original size

The native RAW resolution of my camera is 6016x4016. When I try to export jpegs as original size, they come out 1798x1200. If I export as TIFF, they come out full size (but 20x as large a file as jpeg.) If I export at 50%, they come out 50%. This is only happening on my iMac, not my MacBook Pro. How do I get aperture to let me export a full size jpeg again?

Open the Image Export Preset and make sure that the settings for the Image Export Preset that you are using match the description.
If that's not it, post back.

  • Problems with canvas size in Photoshop.

I just upgraded to CS Cloud. When I open images in Photoshop the canvas appears to be very large. So I tried cropping the image. When I go to the Image Size or Canvas Size the right size appears. However, on screen there is all of this white space that shows up. It's driving me crazy. Has anyone had this problem and know how to correct it?

Or you have color for the document window area outside the document bounds set to white.
Right click just outside the picture and see if selecting one the grays like light gray, makes a difference.

    Vandushia,
The Workspace size is fixed, 16,384 points.
I am afraid you will have to work in a suitable scale, which could be 1:2, 1:4, 1:10, or whatever is most convenient.

  • PDF Page Size does not match Canvas Size

    Hello,
I'm using Xcelsius 2008 Engage SP1 on Vista 64bit with Office 2007 installed. When I'm exporting a Xcelsius file to PDF, the resulting Page Size of the PDF file is 8.5in x 11in. However, the Canvas size in Xcelsius is 800x600 (pixels). The resulting PDF file has quite a bit of whitespace in the top and bottom sections of the file.
Is there anyway that I can export to PDF but with a file size that is in the same aspect ratio than the Canvas Size?
    Thanks for any input.
    Regards,
    Jon

We regularly export to PDF and face this issue.  I believe that the adjustments need to be made in Acrobat as there is, from my understanding, no way to change the default export in Xcelsius.  You are probably already be doing this, but if not ... our solution has been, once you have exported your model into Acrobat, to simply rotate the page before saving the file.  At 800 x 600 you may still have some white space at the top and bottom of your model.  We typically use an Xcelsius canvas size of 1100 x 850.  When exported (and rotated in Acrobat) this gives a nice crisp image that also fills the page.  I hope this helps you.

  • Adobe Generator: yes! but do not crop my canvas size (option)

Adobe Generator= Is not there an option where I can maintain original canvas size position? ?
I mean: I love that the generator slices and exports each individual layer element into a single file .. thats good BUT..
but I do not want that the auto-cropping feature of export each single image into its exact dimensions >> I do want an option where you can maintain the original canvas size and element's position within the canvas space..    is that possible?
GRAPHICALLY it is instead of this:  ///  I want an OPTION that automatically do this:
and we'll love that feature in Fireworks CC please !!!!

I am not really seeing the need for it. If that was the case, it would make more sense to save the entire document.
There is plenty need for it. For one, not every project is a web site where CSS is even relevant. But if you have a large stack of icons, it is often incredibly inefficient to position them all individually with CSS instead of just exporting them as PNGs with matching dimensions. It also gives you better control over the scaling; for example, if you have 2px strokes that are going to be scaled to 50% on export, you want to align them to a 2px grid so they don't go fuzzy.
In my case I often need to export large batches (hundreds) of logos, which all need to be exported at canvas size and not trimmed to endless random sizes. The layer mask hack sounds like a lifesaver, but has plenty of shortcomings. It should be easy enough to add it as a simple parameter, and it would save a lot of time and hassle for a lot of users.

  • When dragging an image onto a fresh canvas, the resizing feature presnaps the image into the canvas size. I can confirm that this has not happened to me in previous projects. I've also tested this problem by making a new larger document size and dragging

Contexts: I am very competent with GFX and have worked on many projects.
When dragging an image onto a fresh canvas, the resizing feature presnaps the image into the canvas size. I can confirm that this has not happened to me in previous projects. I've also tested this problem by making a new larger document size and dragging in the same render. It snaps again. I don't want to re-size from the canvas dimensions, I want to resize from the render's original dimensions.

  • Annoying 'Could not use the history eraser because the current canvas size does not match that of the history state' message

Does anyone know if it is possible to get rid of the message 'Could not use the history eraser because the current canvas size does not match that of the history state'?. It comes up if I hit the alt/option key while I have the eraser selected. Something I do by accident all the time.

The way you've described it, one gets the distinct impression you do not have a clue as to what the history brush does and how to use it.
You need to read up on it.  Read the Help files and google for tutorials.
First you need to create an image (with actual pixels in it), edit it as desired, then make a snapshot of the edited image, then target the snapshot with the history brush tool, then go back in the History panel to the step before your edits and selectively paint your edits in with the History Brush.

  • Illustrator Canvas Size (not Art Boards)

Hey, I was wondering if anybody knew of a way to increase the size of the canvas in Illustrator cs4 or cs5. The default seems to be about 228 inches but I need a bigger canvas size for a project I'm involved with.
I've been looking around and it doesn't seem like this is even an option but I figured I'd at least ask!
    Thanks!

    Conor,
In addition to the previous answers:
Working with vector artwork with the help of Illy, you may work at any scale and scale up in another application for print and still have everything fully smooth; PDF can be scaled to any size (with the same proportions).
Working with raster artwork with the help of Illy, you may also work at any scale and scale up similarly, if you have a sufficiently high resolution to result in a sufficiently smooth appearance at the final size; you may start with lower resolution copies and replace them when the rest of the work is finished, to avoid unnecessary waiting time. It should be noted that the needed smoothness/final resolution depends entirely (and inversely proportionally) on the distance of the viewer; generally, you can use the same total image size at different sizes to be viewed at (proportionally) corresponding distances (which will give the same appearance (and vieweing angle)).
Depending on the units and sizes, different scales may be easy to work with; that could be:
1:10, 1:100, etc, especially in mm and cm (using mm for cm is 1:10 in itself),
    1:6 using picas for inches,
    1:12 using points for picas,
    1:72 using points for inches,
    1:2, 1:4, 1:8, 1:16, 1:32, etc, especially in inches.

  • Adjusting canvas size

I am new to photoshop cc and have just bought it.  Having never used it before, I don't know if I am doing it the right way.  I recently joined a photo club and am submitting digital images which have to be 1400 x 1050 and the canvas size has to be 1400 x 1050.  I have tried to do this in photoshop cc, but it is not saving properly.  I am going to image - canvas size  and then  adding the dimensions I need and then trying to save, but it is not saving.  Please help
    Thanks
    Jane

Jane, image size is something that causes more issues in camera clubs than any other, and I think they have not been helping you by mentioning canvas size.
You should be using Image Size, (Ctrl Alt i)
    Click to check Resample
If the box next to Width is in cm or inches, change it to Pixels
    Enter 1400 in the width.
_IF_ that leaves the height more than 1050, then enter 1050 for height.  This will make the width less than 1400, but the rules for Projected Images usually state a Maximum of 1400 wide, or 1050 high, so you have to use the appropriate one.
Ignore the resolution setting.  It is irrelevant for projected images.
All you have to do now is knock them dead by winning all the competitions   But please don't get disheartened if the judges make stupid comments.  Most camera club competition judges make a LOT of VERY stupid comments.

  • Saving line drawing for web and custom canvas size

    Hi,
In illustrator 10, I used to save line drawings for web and the resulting gif contained only the data of the drawing. Now it contains a clear background the size of the canvas.
    Two questions:
    1) how do I make gif without the clear canvas size?
    2) how do I make a custom canvas size ( I often work on 7 x 8.5)
    thanks,
    Garrett

    Garrett,
Scott and I have assumed CS5. Is it SC4, or?
Canvas is not Illy speak. Artboard and Artboard Tool are, along with Workspace.
Have you tried the Index in the Helpfile?
In search, you may try custom size.
