Maximum e-mail domain length??

Hi,
Our Groupwise system cannot seem to send messages to domain names longer than 63 characters! 63 or less and the message sends, 64 or more and the messages stays in a pending state and is never delivered.
As I test I created the following:
chelseaarethebestfootballteamintheentireworldx.qwe rtyuio-tv.com - 63 character domain length - Message delivered.
chelseaarethebestfootballteamintheentireworldxx.qw ertyuio-tv.com - 64 character domain length - Message not delivered, still pending.
chelseaarethebestfootballteamintheentireworldxxx.q wertyuio-tv.com - 65 character domain length - Message not delivered, still pending.
Has anyone come across this problem before or know of any settings (in the GWIA I imagine) that limit this? I thought the maximum number of characters you could use was 254 or 255 for a domain name!
Kind regards
Mike

Hi Michael
Thanks for answering this for me.
Our Business Systems team are working with Salesforce on customized e-mail
accounts that generate auto e-mails to/from our system and for some reason
the domain names are auto generating by Salesforce beyond 65 characters -
and they tell us they cannot amend this!
So that's the reason for the "crazy" question :-)
From your response I guess that is something hard-coded somewhere within
Groupwise and not something we can change/amend ourselves.
Thanks for your help

  • Setting up a Mail domain Alias

    Hi
We are trying to set up a mail domain alias so that a user can receive mails on either [email protected] or [email protected], the default mail domain on which OCS has been installed is domainA.com
I've tried the rewrite rules for inbound SMTP as:
    Pattern To Match
    $[email protected]
    Action
    Apply Rewrite
    Rewrite To Apply
    $[email protected]
But it does not seem to work (I'm just not receiving any test mails and don't know where we can check for logs for any discarded mails)
Is there any simple way to set up this 'maildomain alias'?
    Many thanks for your assistance
    Rgds
    Vicky

    Marc,
In this situation, I think you only need to add the additional addresses, into the Email Address entry box in Mail Preferences/Accounts/Account Information. You put a comma after the existing address, and add another. Put a comma after the new, one, and you can add still another.

    and
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mail/2.0/en/ml1019.html
You will need to be sure to select the correct one, in each reply or new message. The latter link is also found in Mail Help.
    Does this fulfill your need?

  • Changing mail domain name OCS 10.1.2

I can't receive mail in OCS and think I need to alter my domain name so it will work on this test box and not interfere with the mail to our main campus domain mailserver.
I downloaded the 10.1.2 Linux software and installed for a trial demo against other groupware here. I put in the wrong mail domain and think I need to change it. I have found the blurb in the documentation where it tells how to do it, but I'm not sure what userid to use to let me administer e-mail. This is the doc that points me to OCS Webmail from the OCS Mail Administrator's Guide, chapter 2...
    http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25553_01/mail.1012/b25499/objects.htm#BABEAGIJ
This is the blurb that it points to about OCS Webmail
    http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25553_01/mail.1012/b25499/intro.htm#BHCHCGJJ
The two lines that give the URL don't seem to work in my installation. Is it an OCS problem or is my installation screwed up? I don't see how it could be.
    http://host_name:port/pls/portal
    http://host_name:port/um
My Web Cache Administrator Port is 9400 according to portlist.ini file. Going to http://host_name:9400 works fine. When I try to add /pls/portal or /um, it bombs.
I found that I could use ias_admin to login to OEM AS Control (port 1810) and work my way through the application to the component list and when I click on the Administer button next to Mail, I have no idea what userid to use to administer it.
So I either need to know what userid works to administer Mail, or I need to know how to run Webmail and then what userid to use for that as well.
Thank you to anybody who can help.

  • Management domain length in VTP

    Hi,
I'm preparing for my CCNA. Please don't mind if this is too small question to ask here.
What does the Management Domain length contains in a VTP packet?
Here is the screenshot from a cisco doc for understanding VTP.
    Regards,
    Chandu

    Chandu,
    1. Can we find out how many switches are there in the vtp domain including server, client & tansp?
There is no automatic tool for this. VTP protocol itself has no provisions to enumerate the count of switches in a VTP domain and their roles.
    2. How to find the count of client switches & transp switches?
Not possible with VTP tools. You could of course visit the configuration of each switch and check its VTP settings but this option is probably not what you are asking for.
And finally is there any use to include the length of the domain name?
Because the IOS needs to know how many bytes in the "Management domain name" field are significant. If you were writing a software to process VTP packets, you would be able to read the entire "Management domain name" field as a 32-byte long string into memory easily, but you still need to know how long is the VTP domain name in that string.
    Best regards,
    Peter

  • Maximum number of domains per physical server

I am curious as to whether or not there is a maximum number of domains per physical server. Is it just based on resources, i.e. memory, hdd space, etc. or does Oracle have it's own specific recommendations? I realize, as implied, that one could put a number of vm's on a server that would utilize the server ram up to an amount reserved for the OS.
Just wondering if there is a recommendation.
By the way, we are running WLS (10.0MP1) and OSB (3.0) on top of Win2K3.
    Thanks for nay info,
    Todd

Typically it depends on the resources.
If the WLS instances are heavily utilized, at some point having more JVM's than the number of cores impacts performance if the apps are CPU bound. Similar applies for apps that use a lot of memory or sessions. There is no blanket answer and there is no hard and fast limit.

  • Problem emailing one mail domain

    Hi,
Wondering if anyone can help, we are having issues emailing one specific customer with the mail domain mail.rooftech.info. Any email we send to the company is bounced back after 3 days (the period set in our bounce profile), it's giving a SMTP 5.4.7 error bounced by destination server delivery time expired. We can do an nslookup from the Ironport for mail.rooftech.info and their correct mail exchange address appears. Any idea what could be the cause? I've attached the message tracking log.
Excuse my ignorance but I am a novice concerning email security.
We are using AsyncOS 7.1 for IronPort C160 build 017.
    Regards,
    Ross

    Hi Ross,
the error may be a bit misleading as it is most likely not the remote server giving that error, the system just has detected that the message is older than three days and thus bounces it. I just checked that server, and seems it does not respond to any requests:
    telnet mail.rooftech.info 25
    Trying 89.213.91.141...
telnet: connect to address 89.213.91.141: Operation timed out
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host
I also checked the MX record for rooftech.info, and that obviously is something different:
    ;; ANSWER SECTION:
    rooftech.info.          14400   IN      MX      5 mailscanner.rocc.co.uk.
And that connection just works fine:
    telnet mailscanner.rocc.co.uk 25
    Trying 135.196.30.100...
    Connected to mailscanner.rocc.co.uk.
    Escape character is '^]'.
    220 mailscanner.rocc.co.uk ESMTP ROCC MailClean
Unfortunately your message tracking has the recipient domain and IPs  obscured, so I cannot tell which of the hosts above are you trying to reach.
BTW, there is a handy tool on the CLI that you can use to troubleshoot problems like that
    CLI: diagnostic network smtpping
When asked for a domain  the one you wanna reach, the command will perform an MX lookup and will ask if it finds such entries. When asked if to send a message, you can answer No, after that the tool will try to connect the remote host and perform some simple checks without actually sending a message.
    Hope that helps,
    Andreas

I think XDO Bursting (Delivery) is using a separate mailer (not the standard Java mailer configuration).
    xdodelivery.cfg file contents:
But for XDO bursting, we have setup separate outbound (SMTP) mailer as per requested, which is currently not have “TEST Address” set and not sure there is option to set here.

  • Maximum Multitrack Audio Recording Length

    Hi there..
I'ld like to know about the Maximum Multitrack Audio recording length of LE.
For Cubase software, the Multitrack Audio Recording Length is depends on the capacity of our H.Disk...but for GarageBand the Recording Length is limited by adjusting the Measure and Tempoh to the lower tempoh....
May i know how about LE?is it posible to set the Recording Length up to 5 Hours even 8 Hours??
    thanks...
    Ray

This is correct, but it doesn't actually give you an ENDLESS amount of recording time.
The time is still dictated by logic, it seems to be linked to a certain number of bars. So therefore by setting the tempo really low, as the original poster said you can get a very long time out of it. I'm not sure how long this would equate to.
Once before I transferred a minidisk to cd for a friend I remember it stopped recording at about 70 mins ish, and that was set to the default of 120 BPM. So I would expect somewhere in the region of 4 times this length if setting the tempo to 30 BPM. The minimum tempo you can set logic to work at is 5 BPM, this would equal roughly 1680 minutes or 28 Hours. But whether or not it would actually happen or not is a different matter, and bare in mind these are rough maths done from a distant memory of a rough figure.
    But hope that helps.

  • Virtual Mail Domains

    10.4.10 Server.
I've set up virtual mail domains. Added email addresses to the shortnames list. When anyone sends an email to [email protected] it gets delivered to all hosted domains. So i get the same email in domain2.com.
    Anyone know what's causing this?
    cheers
    Multiple   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Sydney, while you are waiting for a response, just a clarification on local DNS, MX, etc...
The MX record is only required for 'external' users, in order to discover where the responsible mail server is (because all they have to start from is a basic domain name, not a server hostname). In your LAN, your mail clients will already have this location as you put this into the sending/receiving field in the mail client - either as a hostname (which must be resolvable to the local server's IP in your local DNS) or directly as an IP address. So local DNS does not need an MX record if this scenario is applicable.
The hostname you put into your local mail client has no meaning to the mail server - it purely resolves to an IP address and then your client 'drops' that hostname and contacts the mail server at the IP address. The important bit of info used by the mail client is the user login name - this tells the mail server what account, in what domain, to access.

  • Wrong Mail Domain after using Profile Manager

    Hi,
we've set up a Lion 10.7.2 Server with Directory Services, Web, Mail and a few other services. The hostname of our system is mail.mydomain.com, the internet hostname ist mail.mydomain.com, it's mail domain setting is of course set to mydomain.com. Now, when setting up a user using Server.app it correctly fills the Email account with [email protected] So far so good.
After logging in as the user on a client, setting the Network account server in Preferences -> Users to "mail.mydomain.com" - which happens to be the Directory Server as well - i go to https://mail.mydomain.com/profilemanager. The Administrator configured a payload in "Settings for everyone" which has been assigned to me containing the correct Mail setup preferences (Mailserver: mail.mydomain.de, CORRECT Mail adress nothing wrong noticable) In the browser, i download and install it on my machine.
    Here's the problem:
Now, after opening my Apple Mail (which has been automatically setup up due to the profile) and try sending mail i'll always get the account [email protected] which is clearly not right. I could change the adress by hand in my accounts but i don't want to Could this just be a profile manager or Apple Mail bug? We've triple checked the settings and everything looks ok.

Having the same problem ... setup in profile manager:
    protocol: IMAP
    email address: [email protected]
    incomming mail: mail.company.com
    username: [email protected]
    on the client:
    email address: [email protected]@mail.company.com
Since the outgoing server doesn't need authentication in my network (its an SSL relay), it's pulling the IMAP Email address field for identification rather than than the username, so configuring this from Profile Manager doesn't work.

  • Hosting Multiple Mail Domains

    Hi There:
I have some questions, will you please help me.
    My Server is set
    example.com
I need to set additional / Multiple E-Mail Domains, these need to be separated, like:
    example1.com
    example2.com
    example3.com
For the E-Mail Client, what will be de In-Comming Mail Server and Out-Going / SMTP
    mail.example1.com
    mail.example2.com
    mail.example3.com
or it will be "mail.example.com" for all 4 Domains.
I would like to say THANK YOU in advance

This is entirely possible, and supported by the Server Admin user interface for the mail server.
Start with the [Mac OS X Server Mail Services Administration Manual|http://images.apple.com/server/macosx/docs/MailService_Adminv10.6.pdf], page 73
    Quoth the Book Of Mail:
    A Mail Service Virtual Host
Virtual hosting is a method you can use to host more than one domain name on the same
computer and IP address, with overlapping mail user names.
For example, a mail server can receive mail transfer requests for two domains,
mail.example1.com and mail.example2.com, both of which resolve to the same IP
address. For mail.example1.com, the server delivers mail to “[email protected]
to a user mailbox for “bob,” while it also delivers mail to “[email protected]” to
a different user mailbox. Virtual hosts are essentially the converse of local host aliases.
One subtlety here is that the domains sharing the same mail server and all co-resident on the IP address will all tend to have the same public host name listed as their MX (mail exchange) server of record in the public DNS. This so that forward and reverse DNS and MX server all line up for the mail server for all the domains involved.

It happened a mail 78. So I deleted the corresponding mail from the server and another similar looking one as well. Now the problem happened downloaden mail 76, which of course was a different mail than the one which caused the error at first. I then created a new account in mail.app which downloads from the same mail account and the problem happens there as well.
    It is a POP account.
I then tested what's happening if I create a new user in Mac OS X and use Mail.app in the new account. This works.
So the problem is limited to my user account and there to all mail accounts going to the same POP server/user.
Do you have any ideas what could cause this behaviour and how I can solve it?
    Bye

Welcome to the forums Oliver... good work at narrowing the problem down so far!
Try dragging this file to the Desktop and reboot...

Might also pay to clean caches, I use Applejack, but there are many. The log makes me think cache especially.

  • Hosting Multiple Mail Domains in SL server on a Mac Mini

So I have been trying to find out the answer to this question, and I keep getting conflicting information, and I am hoping someone here can help me solve this.
We are running two very small business with two different Domains (@company1 & @Company2) Each company has a website, and corporate email. All I want to do is bring all of this in-house onto one Mac Mini server. The calendars and contacts will be shared between the two principle owners of each company (my bosses) as they support each other in there individual business.
The Apple "Genius" says this is not possible, I believe and have been told by a few people and after reading posts on here that it is possible to have multiple domains on one Mac Mini Server. I would like to figure this out quickly as the companies have a need to move off the current email provider as fast as possible due to complications with iOS4 and the iPads.
Any Help from people who are doing this, or know it to be possible or impossible would be greatly appreciated!
