My HP Pavillion a1710n had a Hard Drive which was a Western Digital WD3200JS which ws a 320 Gig. The system still works good but the drive has to many bad sectors to work. Looking at a new drive. What can I use safely and any suggestons what I should get?

You didnt mention what the OS is.
Is it Vista 32 bit?
IF so, you can go up to 2 TB drive with that 32 bit limitation. SATA drive that is.
That Mobo most likely has SATA ll ports.
For example:
If a Mobo has SATA ll ports...
SATA lll drives are backward compatable with SATA ll ports and will work, just that it will work at the SATA ll speed.
If a Mobo has SATA lll ports...
SATA ll drives will work in a SATA lll port but will be limited to SATA ll speed.
If you use a SATA ll or lll drive, you wont physically see any difference in speed with a conventional hard drive worth worring about. Besides most of the drives on Newegg are SATA lll anyway so just go with that.
I prefer WD myself but I would stay away from the Green drives. I like the Red or Black drives (longer warranty).

  • Maximum hard drive for Mini

I have a Mini (2009) with a 120 GB hard drive and I want to replace with the largest drive a Mini will take. Is there a maximum hard drive size this thing will handle and if so what is it? Thanks.

HD size is pretty independent and just limited by current technology (how much HD space can be provided on a limited area of storage space). So no, there's no correlation or maximum aside from what is purchasable on the market.
Now, if you're doing it through Apple, you're probably gonna be maxed out at 320g, but not because of a technology issue, just that's all Apple offers that I know of.

  • Maximum Hard Drive for Macbook

I have 160 GB hard drive. I wonder if I can upgrade the current hard drive with a new 320 GB hard drive, since Apple says '...... hard drive up to 250 GB". Any compatibility issue?
    TQ

Apple says up to 250 because that is what they offer at the moment. The 320s haven't been out long. Soon they will be offering them. The 320 GB western digital works great. It is a very good drive. I suggest you buy an enclosure so you can use your old drive for storage.

  • Maximum hard drive size for 350 MHz slot loading?

    Hello,
What is the maximum hard drive size for a 350 MHz slot loading imac?
I am aware of a 128 GB limit on imacs. Does the 128 GB hard drive limit apply to all imac CRTs or just the earlier models?
Here are the specs of my imac:
    Blueberry 350 MHz
    Slot loading CD-ROM drive,
    6 GB hard drive
Is the maximum hard drive size limit of 127GB apply to this particular model?
    Thanks

Yes, the last CRT iMac was in 2001. The first machines with built-in greater than 127 GB support were released in June 2002, as this article explains:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86178
So all CRT iMacs have that limiation.

  • Maximum Hard Drive Size for Mac Pro OS X 10.6.4

I would like to install a backup drive in my Mac Pro. What is the largest drive I can install?
A 1.0T would work but a 2.0T would be better.
When I bought my Mac Pro in Oct 2008 it stated I could have up to 4.0T of drive space. Does that mean I am limited to 1.0T drives? I have since upgraded to Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.4. Will it recognize 2.0T drives?
The new drive will be used for backup only. Any recommendations?

  • What is the maximum hard drive size for Imac 8,2, what is the maximum hard drive size for Imac 8,2

Am wondering what is the maximum hard drive one can put into this computer. I think it's a 3TB but I read somewhere the drive needs a jumper to bring it back to 3mb level cache. Can anyone confirm these details please? I currently have a 320GB drive installed.

    Hi Robbie,
I found no iMac 8,2, do you mean iMac 8,1 ???
There is no practical limit to the size, the biggest ones made will work fine... assuming the all important SATA 3 Gb/s speed, WD drives use a jumper on pins 5&6 to slow it from 6 Gb/s to 3 Gb/s.
    Some drives do it automatically...

And some do not step down properly at all.

The largest 2.5" SATA HDDs of 9.5 mm thickness that I am aware of are 1 TB in capacity.  There is a 12.5 mm thick  HDD that will fit some MBPs.  But I have not seen any of larger capacity.
Are there now 2 TB HDDs available for MBPs?    If so, I am interested.
    Ciao.
Both OWC and Crucial have SSDs of about 1 TB capacity.

  • Internal Hard Drive for my macbook

    Hi !
I'd like to know where can I buy an internal hard drive for my Macbook, and if there is a seize limit.
    I bought the MB on the 05th Nov. 2007 : MB 13" white ; 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2x1Go (667MHz DDR2 SDRAM) [right now] the hard drive is 160Go [FUJITSU MHY2160BH]
I'd like to know where I can buy it (in France if it's possible or on internet)
and if it's possible to get a 500Go
Moreover 7200t/m is better than a 5400t/m but does it use more ? is it noisly ?
I guess that with the on I have right now there is something which protect the hard drive in case of shocks.
    Thanks !
    M@cmuft

There is no capacity limit on the MacBook but I believe you will need a drive of maximum 12.5mm deep, to be certain I'd try to get a 9.5mm drive. 7,200 rpm drives are usually a little noisier and will use slightly more battery power when running. The "sudden motion sensor" is built in to the computer, not the drive - do be careful when buying your new drive as drives with built in drop protection can cause issue with the SMS in the computer. You can disable the SMS if need, just Google for instructions.

  • Maximum Hard Drive Possible - Older Desktops

    Good day all,
I have a few old office computers lying around and i was wandering if you could help me in finding the maximum hard drive sizes (capable) for each of these machines.
    Dell Optiplex GX520
    Dell Optiplex GX620
    Dell 755(SFF)
    Dell Precision 690
I am trying to re-purpose one machine as a home server, and i am on the brink of purchasing a new 4TB drive with the hope of using it within one of the machines above.  However i am struggling to find the documentation that states the maximum HD size.  I would prefer to use the Dell 755 as it is a nice size, but fear that it may not be able to use the 4TB to its maximum.  The other 3 machines, may hold additional drives - but i hope i can get away with just one.
Any help you can provide will be extremely helpful.
    Regards,
    SM

They can use any size SATA drive for data purposes, provided the OS is Windows 7 or better, but you may find it necessary to use a third-party SATA card.
I had a 4tb working with the onboard SATA of an old E310. OS was Windows 8 x64. I had a 3tb working with a Dimension 2350 (via a third-party SATA card), and the 2350 does not even have onboard SATA.

  • Maximum hard drive on Portege M200

I've recently bought a Portege M200 on ebay and I'm thinking of installing a new 250GB IDE hard drive.
Is there a maximum hard drive size for this model?

    Hi,
It's hard to say if a 250gb HD will fit in your M200, but I think it's not impossible.
The limits of the (possibly) bios restrictions are not precisely given, but for example in my 3110 ( an oldie with a 6gb HD ) I installed a 40gb HD without any problems. ( despite pessimistic advices ! )
In case of bios-restrictions most HD-manufacturers have special advices and/or software programs to deal with such restrictions
If you have a 250gb HD at your disposal, there is nothing wrong just trying to install it ; in the first installation-screens of XP it will be clear if it' will be accepted at its full capacity or not
EDIT : if there will be a bios-limitation than is it will be most likely at 137gb ; you can use your 250gb by making 2 partitions of 125gb each
let us know if you succeed !

  • Maximum hard drive on Tecra M4

I have a Tecra M4 and I'm thinking of upgrading the hard drive to a SATA 320GB one. Is there a maximum hard drive size for this model? Also will the HD "safe guard" features still work if you install a new one?
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Hi
There is definitely an HDD size limitation the point is that the BIOS does not support all HDD size and to be honest I dont think the 320GB HDD would run.
In my opinion its simply too large
Unfortunately, Toshiba doesnt provide any details about the max possible HDDs
But I think a 120GB HDD shouldnt be a problem

  • UCS C series maximum hard drive size

Looking for info on the maximum hard drive size support on teh UCS C series.  I have a C200M2 that I added a 4TB drive, I have updated the server to the latest firmware and BIOS however the server shows the drive size is 2TB.

Hi!  and welcome to the community mate!
Here is the table that shows the supported disk's PID for the C200 server:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/products/collateral/servers-unified-computing/ucs-c-series-rack-servers/c200m2_sff_specsheet.pdf
If you successfully installed ONE HDD of 4GB and made it work, you were lucky cause I don't see any disk with that size, I have not even seen a disk of that size for UCS yet.
I am wondering if perhaps you installed 4 disks of 1TB and configured them in RAID 1 which would explain the reason for the size to go down to half of the capacity of the array as RAID 1 is a mirror.
Let me know if I misunderstood you.

  • What is the maximum hard drive replacement I can use on my PowerBook g4 867 ghz?

What is the maximum hard drive replacement I can use on my PowerBook g4 867 ghz?

Sorry we are late. This forum is getting less traffic as people upgrade and responses sometime take longer. Everyone here volunteers their time, and I for one was unavailable much of yesterday.
The limiting factor on max drive size is that your PowerBook uses the older PATA drive interface, and the largest PATA 2.5-inch drives available today are about 320 GB.
What I'm reserching is the ATA bus controller in your PowerBook. Some older Macs cannot recognize more than 128GB of PATA hard drive space. However, this archived discussion from 2008:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1413918?start=0&tstart=0
suggests that people are running PowerBooks older than yours and not suffering the 128GB limit.
At this point, I need help with what appears to be a descrepancy between the text of your post and the PowerBook in your profile. A "PowerBook6,2" model identifier returns to the "PowerBook G4 (12-inch DVI)" marketing name with a 1.0Ghz processor; the 12-inch PBG4 with a 867mHz processor shows a model identifier of PowerBook6.1. They show the same hard drive interface but the later on appears to be a sure bet for large hard drive support,
