Maximum Number of Apple TVs in One Home

How many Apple TVs can be installed in one home with one iTunes account?

As per: http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/terms.html#SALES
10.b.iii and iv:
(iii) You shall be authorized to use the Products on five Apple-authorized devices at any time, except in the case of Movie Rentals, as described below.
(iv) You shall be able to store Products from up to five different Accounts on certain devices, such as an iPod or iPhone, and Apple TV at a time; provided that each iPhone may sync ring tone Products with only a single Apple-authorized device at a time, and that syncing an iPhone with another Apple-authorized device will cause any ring tone Products stored on such iPhone to be erased and, if you so choose, to be replaced with any ring tone Products stored on such other Apple-authorized device. Additional restrictions apply to Movies Rentals, as described below.

  • Maximum number of Apple TVs on a network

I know the first gen had a maximum of 5 apple TVs you can sync with. If you're not doing syncing but just streaming, is there a maximum number of apple TVs that can stream from one iTunes library?

a single iTunes can be authorized for up to five iTunes store accounts (Apple IDs). the limit of five (computers) is for computers only, Apple TV/iPhone/iPad/iPods do not count. the number of iDevices you can sync with a single itunes is virtually unlimited.

  • What's the maximum number of Apple TVs that can be displayed in the AirPlay list?

We have 50 conference rooms all on the same network and are considering equiping each one with an Apple TV for AirPlay Mirroring our iPad 2s to the rooms projector, or TV. What is the maximum number of Apple TVs that can be displayed in the AirPlay menu to select the correct Apple TV for the conference room being used?

From what you're saying it sounds as though you wouldn't want to Airplay to all AppleTVs at once, just identify them when that specific room in use?
This is one of those uncharted territories wheer most domestic users will not require such a set up - Apple provide no official info about this, but they'd be your best source to ask.

  • What is the maximum number of Apple TVs (3rd gen) you can connect to 1 Mac running iTunes?

I have one Mac with my digital library running iTunes 11 and seem to be having problems keeping Apple TVs connected (via home sharing) when I get up around 10 Apple TVs on the network.
The Mac is running Mountain Lion with all software updates installed, iTunes 11, and the Apple TVs are all running 5.1.1 (the latest at this time).
I am not asking how many computers can authorize via iTunes to use the same Apple ID - that answer is 5. I have read in multiple places that the number of devices (e.g. Apple TVs, iPods, iPads - not computers) that can sync content to an iTunes account is unlimited, but I don't think that's entirely true.
I'd like to keep this conversation about the number of Apple TVs you can have home shared to a single Mac / iTunes library via home sharing.
I am also not asking how many a network could support via concurrent streaming, etc. That's not relevant. We only use 1-3 Apple TVs at any given time simultaneously, and streaming simultaneously to as many as 3 Apple TVs hasn't ever been a problem.
I recently upgraded all my Apple TVs in this house to generation 3 units - I have 12 of them in all, but once I connected about 10 of them I started having problems (at least I think it was 10).
Does anyone know the official limitation (if there is one) ?
The problem that I am having is that even though I have a great Wi-Fi N or wired gigabit connection at each Apple TV, and the correct home sharing Apple ID on each Apple TV and iTunes on the Mac, when I try to access "Computers" via the Apple TV menu, I get this error:
Could not connect to "My Library": Make sure the computer is on the same network as your Apple TV, the iTunes version is up to date, and iTunes is running.
Now if I restart iTunes, I can get the Apple TV I am currently troubleshooting to connect, but then if I go to a different Apple TV, it gives me the same error. Restarting Apple TVs doesn't fix it, only restarting iTunes seems to. But I can't seem to get multiple units to see the Library simultaneously.
Thanks to anyone who provides help on this.

Apple TV is by it self in a category.
With Apple TV 1 the limit was 5 Apple clearly stated that. The reason? Probably because the Apple TV 1 had a hard drive and was able to store content locally (quite a bit actually). This would make it more in line with authorized devices.
You authorized device limit is 5 but this does not pertain to home sharing again something different.
When you play content from an Apple TV you are streaming from an authorized device and as long as you have the same iTunes account on that Apple TV as the iTunes you are connecting to you will be ok.
Now to the error. I have also had this error and I had it on a network with only 1 Apple TV connected and it is since iTunes 11. It seems every time Apple updates iTunes it has a bad effect on Apple TV. So I would not relate this error to the number of Apple TV's you have, every time I get this error I restart the Apple TV and its fine again.
On a side not I used to run MANY Apple TV's off my xserver. I had my families homes networked with VPN. I would prefer to not say how many but it was quite a few. biggest problem there was multicast over VPN....whole other story.

  • Two Apple TVs. One going, the other not. Why?

I have 2 Apple TVs. One 720 the other 1080. The 720 is working fine and will operate at either TV.
The 1080 will not work at either TV.
I go to set it up and I get all the screens including passwords, itunes account etc, but cannot get on to my network.
The DNS.Router, Password etc settings are identical on both Apple TVs.
I tried all avenues using my wi fi connected to my Apple TVs, to no avail.
Trouble shooting from Apple and from Forums I have followed all the advice.
Currently I am downloading as per instructions from my Mac Book Pro via micro USB.
It has been running for two hours or more, still shows another 13 hours to run. BTW I do have ADSL 2 Broadband which is usually quite fast for anything else to download.
Several times I have done this as after several hours it pops up the message "Cannot Contact Server at this time".
    So I start again.
Also going through the check list from the iTunes Help  on the tool bar, I am getting a message "Take to Apple for Service".
My guess is that the Apple TV is faulty and needs to be either replaced or serviced.
Alhough I do not know how this could be done as it seems to be a solid "puck" like device and completly sealed.
My 720 Apple TV has been performing without fault since new, I can upgrade my iTunes each time a new one comes out (the latest one is installed) or a new IOS from Apple is installed (currently IOS 10.8.2 Mountin Lion).
Apple TV is a great add on for my computer and home entertainment, but I am sick of wasting my time trying to work through this glitch...

Thanks for the response - I'm on Mac OS 10.4.11 I did rename my Apple TVs - so the names are different.
Also, sometimes my second Apple TV isn't showing on my iTunes either. This is very frustrating!
I'm also on a dual 2.3 GHZ PowerPC G5 (not an intel version). iTunes software version 7.6.2 (9)

  • Maximum number of Apple id for this equipment

I have aproblem to setting icloud in my Macbook, I use a Apple Id, but I receive a nessage:
Maximum number of Apple id for this equipment

with the insanity of apple adding on an add'l apple id every time you use a different email to buy an iTunes item, it's pretty easy to hit the limit of items.
this morning i had ELEVEN accounts in my itunes library. Tonight i have FOUR.
    i used an applescript i downloaded from doug's applescripts:http://dougscripts.com/449
his vesion will group all purchases into playlists such as Doug's Purchased Items, but had a bug where it uses the 'real name' not the 'account' so would say "Joe Smith's Purchased Items" vs [email protected] That said it will help immensely.
I re-wrote the script to find the ACCOUNT name and group them and also put into the 'composer' tag so i could convert old outdated email apple ids from AAC protected to MP3, now i have FOUR apple IDs.
(to convert from AAC to mp3 you need to burn to a CD and re-import; you can import as AAC or mp3; i prefer mp3 so i can burn to an mp3 cd for the car).
    movies/apps/tv-shows all count.

  • Apple says small number of Apple TVs have WiFi issues, opens replacement program

I have an AppleTV 3rd generation with issues of connectivity when I use the Radio. Every 10 or 15 minutes disconnects from showing an error on the screen, I research on the internet and apparently there is a program to replace some devices due a known malfuncion with the WiFi.
I always blamed to my cheap router and the poor internet connection I had in my former country Argentina. Now i moved to Chile and i have a nice Cisco/Linksys router and the issue persists.
Please check the links below about the replacement program:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/2034731/report-apple-replacing-some-third-gen-ap ple-tv-units-with-wi-fi-issues.html
    http://9to5mac.com/2013/04/15/apple-says-small-number-of-apple-tvs-have-wifi-iss ues-opens-replacement-program/
I would like to know if this program exists and also if my device is under this program.
The serial number of my AppleTV is C0*****RHN.
    <Edited by host>

That program was from over a year ago, it is no longer running. It still required proper troubleshooting to occur. It wouldn't have to do with an internet connection as this an issue with the local/wifi network, a cheap router will impact performance but there are other factors.
Using ethernet will help to see if there's a wifi issue. Get a network report from istumbler, netstumbler or similar, look for signal strength and noise.
If your network looks ok then I would take to Apple for testing, if it is found to be defective then they are usually good about replacement.

  • I have 2 apple tvs. One in the bedroom, one in the living room. When I try to airplay from my iPad, only the bedroom icon shows up. How do I add the living room?

I have 2 apple tvs. One in the bedroom, one in the living room. When I try to airplay from my iPad, only the bedroom icon shows up. How do I add the living room?

Firstly, go to http://iforgot.apple.com and sign in with the ID you use for iCloud. A new password will be sent to your associated email address.
If that doesn't work, for example because it's going to an address you can't access, then you will have to contact Support. Go to https://expresslane.apple.com ; click 'See all products and services' at the bottom of the page. In the next page click 'More Products and Services, then 'Apple ID'. In the next page select 'Other Apple ID Topics' then 'Lost or forgotten Apple ID password' and click 'Continue'.

  • HT3819 can I use two or more Apple Tvs on one network?

I have two Apple TVs on my network, one in a basement cinema and the other in the ground floor TV room - if I use the one in the basement, then stop using it and then later in the day try and use the one in the TV room I get an error message asking me to turn on home sharing.  I have to go upstairs to my MAC turn home sharing off and then on again for the second Apple TV to work.  The same thing happens if I subsequently try and use the Apple TV down in the basement.  I am not trying to use them both at the same time.  Does anyone know if I can run two (or more) Apple TVs on the same network and if so how do I get around the home sharing error I keep getting?  Thanks!

Of my 7 Apple TV's only one is connected by ethernet, they all work as expected, more often than not at the same time (I probaly haven't had 7 running at the same time, it depends on who's using what))

  • Multiple Apple TVs in one house but one computer

I just bought a second Apple TV for my house and only have one computer whose iTunes Library I would like to sync to both Apple TVs. But I don't see the second Apple TV in the device list. Just the first one. The new one does appear in the speaker pull down list on the lower right corner of iTunes and I can even use it as an external speaker for my iTunes library, but it has never appeared in the device list. Is there a limitation that only one Apple TV can sync to a library.
All software is up to date, I've restarted everything several time, and nothing works. I've also unplugged the old one and still iTunes can't see the new one. Ideas?

In order to add a second tv you will need to register it with the itunes library (settings/computers/connect to shared library)
that won't provide syncing though (as it's a shared library). ??

  • Multiple Apple TVs with one iTunes Library

I have searched this subject and found one thread that touches on the topic. It says that I should be able to "connect" five Apple TVs to my single iTunes library. I have on original Apple TV that connects to my iTunes library just fine. I just purchased a second ATV for my bedroom. It will go thru the setup process easily and will connect to the iTunes music store. When I browse the "My Movies" menu item it will show me all the movies that I converted with Handbrake from my DVD collection but none of the purchased content from the iTunes Store. When I browse the "My TV Shows" menu item I get a message that my iTunes library contains no content. (my TV shows library contains only content purchased from the iTunes store). This scenario only occurs if I connect to the iTunes library as a primary connection that allows syncing. If I add the iTunes library as a "shared library" I am able to see and stream ALL of the content from my iTunes library.
Will an iTunes library only connect and sync with ONE ATV and do all secondary ATVs need to "share"?
As a side note.....when I noticed this problem I thought there was a hardware problem with the ATV so I took it back to the apple store. When we connected it to their media library it gave the same message that "there was no content in the iTunes library". It would however successfully share as a streaming only connection. I was given a new ATV but the same problem as described above continues.

It has been properly set up. I even purchased a TV show and a movie with it from the iTunes store that would play while still in the download phase but once the video was downloaded and synced back to my iTunes library it was no longer visible from the ATV.

  • Multiple Apple TVs to one Itunes

We love our Apple TV and now that we can get movies in Canada, we are addicted. We have three homes. Our primary residence is in Saskatoon Canada and that is where we have our computer (DELL/Vista) with Itunes and an Apple TV. We also have a cottage 30 minutes outside of Saskatoon and my wife has recently purchased a Condo in Honolulu. If we were to buy Apple TVs for our cottage and our condo, is there any way to sync the movies, music, pictures we have on our Itunes in Saskatoon to these Apple TVs at our cottage and condo?
    Thx
    Ronn

Apple tv's always sync through itunes. you can either transfer content to a computer that you would have at each residence or sync content in Saskatoon and then move the apple tv to each residence. you could not add to the connect if you usually buy through itunes, but if you buy content on the apple tv itself then it should pose no problem, however if you buy content on the apple tv it will only be on that individual apple tv.
