No. I currently have 6 volumes mounted on my iMac (one being the boot drive, so using your math, I have 5 additional drives mounted). And I've had more then this number of drives mounted in the past.
If you got an error, then there was some other problem. Have you looked at the console logs (Applications -> Utilities -> Console). If you can provide the exact error, maybe someone can suggest a solution.

  • Maximum number of internal drives

    Hi All,
Well, I just put together a basic system, K8N Neo 2/Athlon 64 3500+/2G Corsair and the first order of business was to install 8-WD 250GB drives on 2-Promise Ultra133 cards.  Only 4 show up on the first card.  The drives are attatched with 36" 80 wire cables and read at DMA 5.  W2K is on a WD 36GB and I plan to install 6 more 250GB WD SATA drives on a LSI Mega Raid 150 card and then 2 more internal SATA and IDE drives but first things first.
The 8-250GB drives are in an external 8 bay tower with removeable trays and a 300 watt power supply.  I have checked and re-checked all the cables/connections/power/drives.  I have switched the power cables among the bays,  replaced the IDE cables with cool new ones, and tried eveythig else I can think of.  The Mobo just sees the drives as "devices" anyway since they are on an ATA card, so if there were a 4 drive limit for IDE devices I havent reached it.
I know I will need more help setting up the different Raid configurations but I have to get there first, any one have suggestions that would help?
    Thanks Much,
    Roger

have you got the promise Driver installed i'm using a more modest promise Tx2 card the driver appears in Scsi & raid controllers section as Promise technoogies Inc Ultra IDE controller .
I am however using XP Pro & the card was detected & drivers installed automatically.
Unfortunately i've very little experience of W2K so can't help you there.
the 4 drive limit isn't applicable when using a n addon card.
    good luck

    Hi Memalyn
Essentially, the bare issue is that you have a 500GB hard drive with only 10GB free. That is not sufficient to run the system properly. The two options you have are to move/remove files to another location, or to install a larger hard drive (eg 2TB). Drive space has nothing to do with SMC firmware, and usually large media files are to blame.
My first recommendation is this: download and run the free OmniDiskSweeper. This will identify the exact size of all your folders - you can drill down into the subfolders and figure out where your largest culprits are. For example, you might find that your Pictures folder contains both an iPhoto Library and copies that you've brought in from a camera but are outside the iPhoto Library structure. Or perhaps you have a lot of purchased video content in iTunes.
If you find files that you KNOW you do not need, you can delete them. Don't delete them just because you have a backup, since if the backup fails, you will lose all your copies.
Don't worry about "cleaners" for now - they don't save much space and can actually cause problems. Deal with the large file situation first and see how you get on.
Let us know what you find out, and if you manage to get your space back.

Try posting your software, its version, and the type of connectivity you're using for oracle.
Older versions of Crystal used a proprietary Oracle ODBC driver that came with Crystal, but you should SWITCH away from using ODBC anyway, not sure why you elected to use it, it's slower and more problematic.
You'll see Oracle Server listed as a data source, that is generally the best connectivity to use.
Also, what version of Oracle is it, and what Oracle client are you using?
You might need your Oracle dbas assistance here.
Anyway, the error is not a Crystal error, it's being raised by the ODBC driver, and Oracle used to have a maximum of 1024 colums I think it was...been a while...

  • Maximum number of files in a folder ?

Hello, what is the maximum number of files in a folder OS X can handle ?
I used a file recovery software called FileSalvage to save some files of an external 300GB with a corrupted disk directory (unable to repair with the usual repair/recovery programs).
FileSalvage recovered about 435,000 files and sorted them by extension in individual folders, unfortunately it does not recognize the file names and just sequentially names the files per extension.
The .jpeg, .gif and .html folders had up to 75,000 files. After recovery the external FW drives started to behave very strange, unresponsive, just hanging, time-out. I tried on a Mac Mini, iMac G5, an iBook and PowerBook, OS X 10.3.9 and 10.4.3, FW400/800 and USB 2.0 interface, they all had pretty much the same failure mode after a while.
Running Disk Utility on the drives with the recovered FileSalvage folders showed a corrupted directory (invalid file count) and unable to repair, although I could copy most of the folders of the disk (deleted the folders with more than 10,000 files per folder).
I suspect that File Salvage copies more files in a folder than OS X allows, causing unpredicable problems.
    Any ideas ?

From "Mac OS X: Mac OS Extended Format volume and file limits"
"Maximum number of files (or files and folders) in a folder … up to 2.1 billion"
According to a note in the document, the above is subject to the drive's size (maximum 16 terabytes in "Tiger") and block size, ie. the number of available blocks.
So it would appear that the number of files you mentioned would be well within theoretical limits, although I suppose there could be a bug in some other part of OS X. Otherwise, maybe there is a problem with the drive...

The file size is limited by the operating system or the hard drive.

  • Is there a Maximum number of songs you can have in iTunes library?

I have reached what I believe to be the Maximum number of songs that iTunes will allow. That number is 37,562 songs. Since reaching this plateau I have since split my iTunes library into two seperate libraries using the program Libra but am wondering what happened to all the songs I either downloaded off my own CDs or purchased from the iTunes store after I reached that maximum number. It's not a matter of hard drive space as I was originally told by several Apple Employees...I have a Terabyte drive that I have my libraries going to that has over 700GB still free. I'm concerned that songs may have been deleted and wonder how I found out which ones were deleted or what happened to songs as I reached the 37,562 level and continued to add songs until I finally realized that the song count wasn't going any higher. I am on a Mac, using a G4 desktop under MacOSX 10.4.8. Any help would be appreciated...Tks

  • Maximum number displayed files in Folder in Dock?

One of our users has over 800 files saved directly in her Documents folder. We keep this folder in the usual location, and also have it displayed in the Dock as a "list". When she clicks on the folder, about the first half of the files show up - if displayed alphabetically for example, she gets A - M.
Does anyone know if this is fixable? I'm assuming here that there is some maximum number of displayed files which maybe I can fix by editing a .plist or something. It drives her nuts to have to do the "open in Finder" thing half the time, but not the other half of the time (obviously, when she opens this folder as a Finder window everything is there, it is only the display in the Dock which refuses to show all items).
    Thanks!

Thanks for the info. There is indeed a maximum number of files that the dock will show in the contextual menu. Yeah, it would be best if the user wouldn't keep everything organized like that, but it isn't possible to lean over someone's shoulder all the time...

  • Maximum number of users in file sharing

    Hello,
I'm trying to file share an external drive in a lab setting and wondered what the maximum number of concurrent users are in file sharing. I got to 17 users and number 18 gave me an error message saying that it cannot connect to the shared drive. I thought the concurrent number of users was more than 17. I'm trying to get 24 users connected to the external drive.
Any help with this is much appreciated.

I really think the limit is 10 connections without Server Unlimited. I suspect 7 of those 17 had been kicked off or dropped without notice.
    Ah, here it is...

  • Maximum Number of USB Devices...

What is the maximum number of USB devices able to be connected to the new AirPort Extreme via a powered USB hub? In other discussions it said "officially" three devices. What is meant by "officially", and could I add more? Also, if these devices are USB external hard drives, can I access them from any computer connected to my network via either WiFi or Ethernet? If so would they apear in the Finder sidebar like normal and what would transfer speeds be like? (I own a MacBook Pro w/ 802.11a/b/g/n)
...One more thing, would I be able to set up automatic backups to one of these hard drives using Time Machine even though they're connected to an AirPort Extreme not a Time Capsule?

What is the maximum number of USB devices able to be connected to the new AirPort Extreme via a powered USB hub?
In theory, just a bit over 125.
Also, if these devices are USB external hard drives, can I access them from any computer connected to my network via either WiFi or Ethernet?
    Yes
One more thing, would I be able to set up automatic backups to one of these hard drives using Time Machine even though they're connected to an AirPort Extreme not a Time Capsule?
Yes, if you are asking about the "new" AirPort Exteme. Otherwise, no.

  • Maximum Number of Columns Error

Okay, I've searched the discussion groups and did not see an answer to this so if anybody can help, it would be greatly appreciated. I have a user trying to pull back numbers from Essbase to an Excel spreadsheet and is getting "Maximum number of columns [1] exceeded [3].There is no Essbase error message associated with the error. I can pull back the same data on my set and do not get the error. Any help......thanks.

I have to disagree with the last comment; there is no "patch" for Hyperion to send. It's a simple version incompatibility. This situation usually occurs when you either upgrade the Essbase version or Excel, usually Essbase. The problem is that the "old" version of the Add-In isn't compatible with the new Essbase kernel, or in some cases the Excel version.<BR><BR>Try this:<BR><BR>In Excel, uncheck the <b>OLAP Server DLL</b> checkbox and install it again. To do so, browse to the server's hard drive, then to the ...\hyperion\essbase\bin directory and select the <b>Essexcln.xll</b> file. This will get a new copy of the Add-in from the server.<BR><BR>This situation has also occurred when version 6 Essbase is used with Excel 2003 and there's a different solution for that. If the above doesn't work, provide me with the Essbase version and the Excel version, along with what (if anything) has recently changed and I'll field it from there.

  • Maximum number of LUNs per SCSI ID

(1)What is the maximum number of LUNs (logical units) per SCSI ID for the different Solaris releases (default value) ?
(2)How can I increase this maximum number (Patches, kernel or driver parameters, ...)?
    (3) Is there any difference whether the devices are attched through SCSI or FC (fibre channel) ?
As a background. I am currently trying to attach a storage device with a maximum LUN number per ID of 32 to a UE450 (running Solaris 7 with the June00 Patch cluster). The problem is that Solaris only sees LUN 0..15 per SCSI ID. The /kernel/drv/sd.conf file was modified for 32 LUNs.
    Many thanks for any feedback.

In addition to configuring the SCSI disk driver to support 32 LUNs you also need to configure the underlying SCSI bus driver to support 32 LUNs. With patch 106925-03 (now -04) the PCI SCSI driver, glm, will support upto 32 LUNs if configured in /kernel/drv/glm.conf but defaults to supporting 8. The PCI Fibre Channel driver, ifp, support 16 LUNs (patch 107292).
If you are using StorEdge RAID, the RAID manager software has a set of shell scripts to configure the drivers and RAID software to support 16 or 32 LUNs.
