Maximum number of pages and links in an InDesign Document

We have an InDesign document that is 79 pages, and contains about 700 image links and 700 text links. The links in total are about 7GB (most text documents are 2-6K; images could be anywhere from 1 to 50MB). the InDesign document is 220MB.
If we house the package of the InDesign Document and the links on a local machine, it takes our machine about 2 minutes to load the file for editing. If the packaged is housed on a NAS drive (BUFFALO TERASTATION using Gigabit), it takes 16 minutes to load.
I'm wondering if there is a set of "best practices" that suggests a limit to the size of the package, and if you exceed that limit, you should expect poor performance? (Like should we limit our documents to 10 pages and 1GB of links?)
Are we asking for trouble by having documents and links this large? or is there some network or settings or performance issues on our network and on our MACs that I should be looking at first?
Thanks for any comments or assistance.

To answer in a simpler way:
Page number limit per document: 9999 pages
Link limit: your computer configuration (processor, ram, etc) determines it.
Remember, if u run very large documents, you need to upgrade your configuration accordly. If you not have enough available resources to run a job fast, its clear the computer/network needs an upgrade. There are models of HP computers that can reach 128gb of ram memory, and they are not server, they are workstations.
the other way is to avoid extra image data on links (large images in size, far from the output size) and work with the exact size you need, because this extra size can be the cause of the extra processing time.
"We "strive" to do the editing in PS, but often we have a PS file that we want to keep at 4x4 (for future or other purposes), but will place it in InDesign as 2x2 -- so we edit it in InDesign. Should we be creating a new 2x2 file for this one-time purpose?"
Thats the idea, (extra size = extra processing = extra time) X number of you images.

Is ther a maximum number of pages that can be created in one document?

There is a maximum number of pages that can be safely created, what exactly that is is not defined, but when you get into hundreds of pages with lots of graphics, that starts getting hairy.
It would be safer to break up your document into smaller parts and only assemble them at the end.

Assuming that your computer has ample CPU, memory, and storage, how many pages and what file size does Adobe recommend that you limit a single PDF to using Acrobat Pro XI in order to avoid any issues.

What is the maixmum number of pictures you can use when ordering a book?
Depends on the theme you choose - see Liz Castro's page for examples of each theme and all of the layouts available for each theme - http://www.lizcastro.com/iphotobookthemes/
So if you chose the picture book theme and choose to have 16 photos per page you could have 1600 photos in a book
On the other hand if you chose the folio theme then you would be limited to 200 photos in a book

  • What is the maximum number of pages (2-sided)?

    Hi,
I am laying out a photo book with about 62 pages (which is 31 double-sided sheets), plus the covers. It contains 119 photos in total. When I try to add 1 more photo, a pop-up window tells me that I have more than 50 pages, so I have to delete some. The Apple web site says the large, double-sided books cost $29.99 for 20 pages (10 sheets), and a maximum of 100 pages (50 sheets) for an additional $0.99 per page. Why can't I add another photo, and why does it tell me I have too many pages?
It also won't let me move the photo I want to add into the "unplaced photos" area. You would think it would so I could at least substitute it for an existing one. Very frustrating.
I have the latest iPhoto 6 and am using OS 10.3.9. (Panther).
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

    papple:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The maximum number of pages is 50. That would be 50 double-sided or single sided. Do you have any unused pages at the end that would be causing that warning? Contron-click on a page outside of any picture and select the option "Clean up book". That will automatically remove any empty pages and (warning) remove any empty frames for a partially finished page and change the layout, i.e. remove an empty frame from a 3/page and change it to 2/page. So don't run this if you have any partially finished pages. You can duplicate the book and then run tests on the duplicate copy.
Are you sure you selected double-sided or it did not get unselected somehow?
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • Maximum number of pages in Smartforms/Sapscript

    Hi
I have to print some very large invoices (between 1000 and 3000 pages) and it does not work with Adobe forms.
So I would like to know approximately the maximum number of pages that it is possible to print in Smartforms and Sapscript. And then if possible migrate my form.
    Thanks for your answers
    Julien

    Hi Julien,
There is only a max page number assigned to a user profile, that means
you can restrict the max page number per user and printer.
There is a possibility to restrict the maximum number of pages printed
as described in Section '2.4 Output authorizations' of the following
    SAP Note: 119147.
Using authorization object S_SPO_PAGE, you can define that users may
only print a certain page number range on certain devices.
To activate these checks the parameter: rspo/auth/pagelimit must be
set to 1 and you have to define an interval with leading 0s as described
    in the Note.
    Regards,
    David

  • Maximum number of pages in iWeb?

Is there a maximum number of pages that one can have in iWeb?
    Thanks!

    There is no "maximum".
Once a website has got to a dozen or so pages it needs to be broken up in to "main" pages with related "sub" pages. These sub sections are better to be built on separate domain files so that they can be worked on and published one at a time.
Otherwise the navigation menu gets out of hand and you would have to do a lot of scrolling in iWeb to find the individual pages!

I have created a hard cover album with 96 pages. Attempts to upload arent working ... is there a maximum number of pages ??

    the Max is 100 pages
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.
If you have trouble uploading boot into safemode and try again

  • Maximum  number of characteristics and  Key figures used in a Query

    Hi Experts,
Any Thought on the maximum number of Characterstics and key figures that can used in a Query. I know  it impacts performance query and runs for very long time.
    Thanks,
    Kumar.

    Hi Kumar,
    Welcome to SDN.
I really did not think about it till now, sharing my thoughts on this -
    1. You can use all the characteristics & Key Figure ( & more)in Query what you have in you Cube.
    2. Query is suppose to serve a purpose, to deliver you analytics based on some KPI etc & it will have maximum no of char / key figures which human mind could make some sense of.
    3. Performance of query actually is divided into three areas -
    a. database time
    b. OLAP time
    c. Front End time
and if you query on not performing well first look at which area is taking maximum time & the optimize that first & there are various ways to optimize each area.
    Hope it helps.

  • Maximum Number of pages Adobe reader could hold.

    Hi,
I am interested in knowing the maximum number of pages that Adobe reader 8 could hold. Also it would be helpful, if you could provide maximum size adobe reader 8 could hold on windows machine.
    Thanks

In theory there is no limit, though in practice the performance once
it is in the tens of thousands of pages becomes poor.

  • Maximum number of pages per report

I'm developing reports in Crystal X accessing Oracle database. I'm working on a report that will display a large number of records.
    My question is:
Is there a limit on number of pages per a report?
I've tested the report using one business date as parameter, it was displayed on just under 1,300 pages. However, the report design requires that it would display data for one month. So, it looks that the monthly report would require around 39,000 pages. When I tried to run it for a month, it just times out. Also, I don't get any results when I schedule it. Please note that the tables being accessed by the report have necessary indexes - I don't think the sql code can be optimized any further.
    Thanks
    Lilia

You don't mention anything about the design of the report or its complexity.
Other than that the only thing to worry about would be any timeout settings (change) or system resources (memory, available HD space).
There is not really a maximum number of pages allowed in CR.....

I have recently begun to use Pages and want to transfer a document between the iPad and my PC. I can transfer to the iPad, but not the other way, and am told I do not have sufficient 'privileges'. What does this mean? Also I can't use iCloud with Pages between the iPad and PC,  although I purchased extra storage in order to do this.

If you have a PC, you don't have Pages on it. You can transfer Pages presentations to/from iCloud via http://www.icloud.com , however -- you just won't have an app on your PC to deal with Pages documents. Make sure that you have your iCloud account properly configured on your iPad.

  • PDF Presets and Large Documents (High Page and Link Count)

I created an 824-page book using InDesign CS3 (577 image links - all photoshop or illustrator CS3), all in a single file. When I try to use the PDF presets to create a PDF file(doesn't matter what quality), InDesign crashes. I checked all of the links etc. and everything is okay. If I separate the file into three separate books, I can create a PDF from each. Is there a limit to the number of pages that InDesign can handle? Is it possible that my laptop doesn't have enough resources?
    Any help would be appreciated!

It would be nice if there was a log file created during a failure. But that would require more resources and compound the problem.
There is no doubt that the corporate issued Dell is a low-resource machine.
In the end, this book will be modular so chapters can be added or subtracted as required by the audience. I'll just create three separate mini-books or I'll transfer everything to my machine before processing.
    Thanks for the info.
