Maximum Number of Special Characters in a cell

Hello All,
We have a currency value in our report as "-$200", our requirement is to display -ve sign in closed brackets as "$(200)".
For this we made a query level property as "Display -Ve value in ()" and after making this change the key figure value is displaying as "$(200" and not as "$(200)".
Can someone please suggest me is there any limitations for the number of special characters that can be used in a particular cell value?
Also please suggest me if any solution for the same?
Regards,
AVS Reddy

Hi,
I dont feel like 3 is the limitation for a cell to hold special character.
check the query output in RSRT and analyze...check your SP and raise to SAP...if you still face this issue...

Rakesh.

  • What is the maximum number of text characters

    Probably has been asked before, but what is the maximum number of text characters that can be used in a song title and still be burned to a disk. TIA

    Are the files tucked away in some deeply nested folder. I've not used Toast (being a PC) but my experience of other burning software suggests that it is usually designed to truncate the filenames to meet the specification of the format it is using. Also I believe "Red Book" is the audio standard so the output will simply be a number of audio tracks with the accompanying index. Filenames on the output end should be irrelevant, unless you've enabled CD Text which is not Red Book standard, and again Toast should enforce any field limits. Perhaps Toast is having trouble reading the files rather than a problem writing them. I assume the files are on an internal drive and you are not trying to burn DRM'd files.
    Use a rewritable disc and clone a small audio file multiple times, giving them filenames of 40,45,50,55 etc. characters then try to burn them in a list of increasing length of filename - see which one Toast hangs on.

  • How do I remove spaces or special characters within a cell for large amounts of data

    Is there any shortcut to remove spaces between words and numbers within a cell?
    Example:

    Is there any shortcut to remove special characters between numbers within a cell?
    Example:
    Current: 0--000--000--0
    Need: 00000000

    Thanks Wayne.
    I have been away from using Numbers or Excel for 4-5 years so it is slowly coming back to me. I am get that I need to use the SUBSTITUTE function however I am having trouble with getting it to work.

  • Maximum number of lines / text in a cell

    I am compiling information in a spreadsheet. One column is for URLs. I'm entering multiple URLs (i.e. www.webiste.com) in the same cell. In order to go the next line (from within the same cell), I press "Option-Return" and type the next line of text (URLs).
    It's been working fine until last night when I entered maybe 50 URLS. Typing "Option-Return" would not go to the next line even though there was space left in the cell.
    I tried different things, like pasting text at the end of the last line. The text would not appear. Yet, when I select the whole cell and copy-paste it into a Text document, that new text appears.
    Is that a bug or is it just me who does not know how to use Numbers?

    I made a test.
    I imported bookmarks from Safari.
    I cleaned the file to keep only the URLs
    There where 415 for a total of 21440 characters.
    I pasted all of them in a single cell.
    I saved the doc, re opened it.
    The cell was correctly embedding the 415 URLs.
    It's a foolish use of the spreadsheet.
    It was just a test for the fun.

  • How to handle special characters in NWDI

    Dear All
    I am trying to update the Description from JSP form. Through JCO we are calling the RFC of ABAP. We are passing these description from Java to RFC of ABAP and this RFC update the text in Database.
    We have noticed that if there is some special character in description like as : š or ž, complete description is not getting updated in to the SAP database.
    Can anyone help me how to handle these special characters in Java. There may be N number of special characters. We want to generalize it. We want to replace these characters by s and z respectively.
    For example : We want to update this description.
    AP147. Poslati finalnu dokumentaciju za uvođenje paketa (implementacijsku instrukciju i sve popratne datoteke).
    WHile updated text is as follows :

    Regards
    Bhavishya

    Hi Bhavishya,
    Apparently your SAP database isn't configured to support Unicode. That would be the first solution to your problem, but I can imagine it's a bit drastic to convert your DB.
    A second solution would be to encode the input description to ASCII before storing it in the database. When reading from the database, decode again to Unicode. This way, no information is lost. A suitable encoding would be Base64. e.g.
    String description = "šunday žebra";
    String descriptionBase64 = new sun.misc.BASE64Encoder().encode(
      description.getBytes("UTF-8")); // ""
    // store descriptionBase64 in the DB
    // later, when reading descriptionBase64 from the DB
    String description2 = new String(
      new sun.misc.BASE64Decoder().decodeBuffer(descriptionBase64), "UTF-8");
    Instead of using Sun's implementation, a better alternative is to use the open source implementation
    org.apache.commons.codec.binary.Base64 from Commons Codec .
    The 3rd approach is indeed to normalize the description by replacing all special characters with their ASCII equivalent. A rather easy solution is as follows:
    String description = "šunday žebra";
    String descriptionNormalized = sun.text.Normalizer.normalize(
      description, sun.text.Normalizer.DECOMP, 0).replaceAll(
      "[^p{ASCII}]", "");
    sun.text.Normalizer decomposes the string, e.g. "éàî" becomes "e´a`i^", after which non-ASCII characters are being removed using a regular expression.Again, note that it's usually a bad idea to use sun.* packages, see note about sun.* packages. The above code only works with J2SE 1.4 and J2SE 5.0, but it breaks in J2SE 6.0 (where
    java.text.Normalizer became part of the public API ;-). A good open source implementation can be found here: ICU4J (com.ibm.icu.text.Normalizer).
    Kind regards,
    /Sigiswald

  • Special characters for projects

    Hi experts,
              Kindly explain to me how to define multiple Special characters in project system.
    Regards,
    Shynu John

    Hi,
    Do you mean Special characters for the Project coding mask?
    If that is the case, you can define the special characters in OPSK. A maximum of 8 special characters can be defined in it.
    And then create the project coding mask in OPSJ using those special characters as per your requirement. Alpha-numeric and numeric characters combination can be used along with the special characters while creation of coding mask.

  • Special characters - where are the rest?

    seems to me the latest apple OS  has cut down on the number of special characters available in Safari>Edit.  Specifically, I make product descriptions with measurements, and often used those nifty little fractionslike 3/8 - anybody else notice this change to Specila Charcters.

    Thanks you guys - I got it - yes I stumbled on the vocabulary there.
    I was able to go to that page, System Preferences>Language and Text>Text which shows me which symbols to select so that for example 1/8 looks compressed into one character space.
    But when I use 1/8 in my writing it does not automaticallay compress as expected.
    Finally - and this is where my humble little thread started - when I go to Special Characters I am no longer offered these options.

    Hi,
    Try to write your own cell editor.
    There attach an InputVerifier to the JTextField of the editing cell.
    The input verifier can watch for the size of the input and if too many characters you can show a JOptionPane.Dialog.

  • What's wrong with the built-in keyboard on my macbook? The caps button does not work rite, no matter what letter button i push they all come out capitals and the number keys when pushed display the special characters instead of the numbers!

    the built-in keyboard on my macbook is not functioning right, the number keys when pushed display the special characters instead of the numbers,
    the caps button doesn't work at all, the letter buttons display capitals when pushed whether the caps button is on or off, the shift keys are also out of whack!!
    It seems it somehow got relocated to the "0" button because if you push and hold the zero button down the keyboard seems to operate normally, the number keys display numbers when pushed the letter keys display lower case when pushed but release the zero button and your back in the twilight zone!! Can anybody help me resolve this issue? one more thing im using an external usb keyboard right now and it seems to function properly if that helps any.

    You would do better in the actual macbook pro forums (this is not).

  • What is the maximum number of characters in an Oracle 10G Instance Name

    All,
    Can I know what is the maximum number of characters in an oracle 10g instance name under AIX? Is it 7 characters or 8 characters?
    regards
    Santhosh

    One should really make the difference between db_name and instance_name: if instance_name default value is db_name it can be different
    (even on a non RAC database).
    For example with Oracle 10.2.0.4 you can create a database named DB78 with instance_name=DB12345678:
    $ uname -a
    Linux lx01.localdomain 2.6.18-92.el5 #1 SMP Fri May 23 22:17:30 EDT 2008 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
    $ ps -fu oracle | grep smon
    oracle    6353     1  0 20:30 ?        00:00:01 ora_smon_DB12345678
    oracle    6412  5596  0 20:37 pts/1    00:00:00 grep smon
    $ export ORACLE_SID=DB12345678
    $ sqlplus / as sysdba

    lock_name_space                      string

    service_names                        string      DB78I would not recommend this practice: but it's interesting to know to avoid confusing between db_name and instance_name.

  • Have a problem in Numbers with entering data directly into a cell when a table reaches a certain size and special characters are used?

    I am creating a list of words with special characters in some of them. I get to a point where I cannot enter data directly into the cell. I have to use the data entry bar at the top in the toolbar. Any solutions available?
    This is the table I am creating...
    From row 25 on, I am only able to enter data into the cell through the toolbar at the top and not directly into the cell itself. I believe that this problem originates from the special characters I have inserted in the previous records because if I do not use special characters, then the spreadsheet acts flawlessly. Have there been issues in Numbers with data entry, the size of a table, and using special characters?

    I would try removing the rows with "special" characters one at a time to see which one is causing the problem

  • Maximum number of cells for grid

    Hi,
    I have users who wanted to view Income Statement by Entities which are about 200 over. There seems to be performance issue when they attempt to expand the top member of entities hierarchy, the system is requesting for data for hours. Does anyone know what is the maximum number of cells in a grid that can be displayed? I know this should not be the way to analyse data, but users insisted.

    By default grids are limited to 1024 rows this can be increased in Grid Setting > Display Options. I think your users by entity grids are slow because HFM has to open a sub cude for each entity which takes longer than a by account grid where all the accounts are in one subcube. I would expect your user's grid to take a one or two minutes to display. if it is taking longer you might need to look at your servers. If you want to know more about subcubes Google or search this forum.

  • Maximum Number of Characters for Password??

    Hello, and thank you for reading my post.   I recently modified my Apple ID Password to a very strong password containing 32 characters.  When I try to log into this discussions group with that particular Apple ID, I can't because the website won't accept the password?  Wouldn't all of Apple's sites accept the same password?
    Is there a maximum number of characters for a password in this discussion group?
    Thanks

    What makes you believe that 32 characters is remotely necessary?  As Ralph indicates, a shorter password is equally secure, in realistic terms.  Keep in mind that even if some hacker set up a script to repeatedly try random passwords on your account, they're never going to get in because there are limits on the number of times one can enter an incorrect password before being blocked on any decent system.  You can have a much shorter password, and as long as a human can't guess it from what is publicly known about you, it's secure.

  • Maximum number of characters in displacement file

    Is there a maximum number of characters that can be in the name of a saved displacement file? When I save a displacement file with 12 characters or less, the Filter>Distort>Displace works fine; when I save the same file with 13 characters, nothing happens when I try to apply the filter. Obviously, the solution is to save files with 12 or fewer characters. I just wondered if this is a known limitattion. Thanks.

    Yes, the displacement files are in a "buried" folder, but they are in the same folder. One character did make a difference: displacement.psd worked, displacement1.psd didn't. I made a copy of displacement1.psd on the desktop and it did work so your idea that path length has importance is valid. Maybe it is the entire name of the file, path included, that is the determining factor. If so, it appears that the total number is somewhere around 122 characters. If there is a definitive answer to this question, please add it to this discussion. Otherwise, this question is answered. Another quirky Photoshop "Two-o'clock-in-the-morning-why-isn't-this-working" problem is resolved. Thanks!
