Maximum Paper Size?
I have Adobe Acrobat X Std running on Windows 7. I'm thinking about upgrading to XI. The key will be paper size. I create large data models. Up to 60" X 240". I know Adobe used to have a 200" limit. Is it stll the case? After experimenting with my currect version, I think there is a 3000 square inch limit as well. I could print a diagram sized to 30" X 90" but not one sized at 30" X 100". That was with Acrobat X Standard. That's why I'm considering the Pro version for my upgrade, but I want to know what it's upper limits are. Anyone have an answer?
Rich
All,
Here is an update on my situation/problem.
1. I've been talkig with Adobe tech support. They say there is a size limit in Standard that is less than that in Professional. They weren't specific about the nature of this limit.
2. I've upgraded to Adobe Acrobat XI Standard from X. The problem hasn't changed.
3. I've upgraded to Adobe Acrobat XI Professional. The problem hasne't changed.
4. I created a very large spreadsheet and tried to print it as PDF to 40" wide by 70" high paper (just under that 3000 square inch limit). It took 43 pages, but it worked.
5. I tried to print the same spreadsheet as PDF to 40" wide by 80" high paper (The same amount over the 3000 sq. in. limit, but well under the old 200" X 200" limit.). I got an out of memory error message. I've got 4 GB of memory and Excel was the only application running. This doesn't make much sense to me. The successful PDF from step 4 was about 1.3 Meg in size.
I would very much appreciate it if someone would confrim my steps 4 & 5. Create a large spreadsheet and try to print to Adobe PDF using a very large custom paper size. I'd like to know if the problem is general or just on my PC.
I just received the following from another source:
Here is an interesting article about Windows 7 RTM having issues with large documents.
http://news.softpedia.com/news/Windows-7-RTM-Can-t-Print-Large-Page-Documents-130269.shtml
“The problem will occur if "(Paper Width in inches * dpi) * (Paper Length in inches * dpi)" results in a number larger than 4GB (0xFFFFFFFF),” the company noted.
The deal breaking combination is a mixture of high resolution content and large paper size, Microsoft said.
So maybe if you reduce your dpi resolution you might get it to print. Just an off-the-wall thought. Of course, maybe this was only an issue with RTM.
Anyway, here is the rest of the article:
“You are unable to print a document on a large paper size at a high resolution from a Windows 7 client. For example, printing at 600x600 dpi one page which printable area is 40" x 300" will fail. The same page will be printed fine when printed at 300x300 dpi,” the software giant revealed.
There is a solution already available for end users to deal with this issue. However, Microsoft is not offering an update or a hotfix, or any sort of automatic resolve for that matter. Still, the fix is simple enough that it can be easily implemented manually, and in fact this is what the Redmond company is advising customers to do.
“Add the following registry DWORD and set the value to 1 (if the printer driver is using EMF data type) or 2 (if the printer driver uses RAW data type): [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows] "UMPDSecurityLevel" - DWORD - "0x1" or "0x2",” Microsoft noted.
Does anyone know if this applies to Adober Acrobat PDF? Which data type does Adobe use?
TIA.

Changing to a paper size that is not listed
How do I change to a paper size that is not listed in the drop down menu? Thanks /
What paper size? There are minimum and maximum paper sizes the printer can handle. There are additional limits on the sizes that can be printed borderless. To set custom paper sizes in Windows 8.1 do the following: go to the Devices and Printers folder. Single click on the HP Photosmart 7520 series. Near the top of the Devices and Printers folder will be a new item "Print Server Properties". Click on this , then click Forms, Create a new form, type a Form name, set the proper size and margin size, Save Form, Apply, OK. Next close any open printer windows, the right click on the photosmart 7520 and select Printing Printing preferences. The new paper size should now be available.

Trouble printing on custom paper sizes
I have a project that requires a print on a 5" x 20.5" sheet of paper. I have the MG5320 inkjet printer. I created two of the same images, one with photoshop and the other with word. I setup my page as 5" H x 20.5" W, and tried printing in landscape mode with no luck. The print only prints about 6" of the middle of the image on the leading side of the paper. I have tried various paper settings and orientations, as reversing the dementions. The largest print I can get is on a 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper. I used the rear tray loader. I am working on a iMac running the latest OS. Are these printers capable of printing banner type prints? Any help will help. Thanks
I'm sorry to say that you won't be able to print to a 5" x 20.5" sheet of paper. The maximum paper size that the PIXMA MG5320 support is 8.5" x 11.7." You may want to visit a local print shop for assistance with a banner print.

Hi,
I am trying to find out if my printer can print 350 gsm canvas style A4 photopaper. There is an older post with a link but the links only give the paper size .
There is also a 320 gsm version of this paper.
What is the maximum paper weight?Hi Tony,
On the right side:
HP Brochure Paper and HP Professional Paper
180gsm
HP Premium Presentation120gsm Paper and HP
Professional Paper 120gsm
================================================
Google is our friend for this sort of conversion / measurement.
Most American made paper is sold by Pound measurement which might be shown on the front of the package.
A chart might be useful to determine what the average home printer uses.
Pounds to GSM Paper Weight Conversion Chart
I am unsure the extent of what you require for this -- the printer may be able to handle the extra weight paper or not. If the job is one for which you may not need to use the printer again, you might consider using a professional service and not risk your home equipment that may not be suited to this heavy duty service.
Good Luck!

Unable to figure out paper sizes in PSE 9...
Hi, I am trying to print a 4x6 photo... when I click print the pse print window opens and asks to select: printer, paper size & print size. I don't know what paper sizes they are offering, ex: KG, KG.NMg, PhotoPaper2L, PhotoPaper2L.NMgn, PhotoPaperRoll, PhotoPaperRollNMgn, etc.... ?? When I select these and try to print my 4x6, my image is cut off the edge. What are these paper sizes? and what should I select to print a standard 4x6 photo? Thanks for your help.
Thanks for your reply, "no margin" is probably right, but still unsure what the sizes are. I don't know why'd they be metric. Other options on the list were the standard: a4, letter, legal, 8x10in (that looks like a photo size), and some other ones I've never seen before: HiVision 102x180 , Env10 (guessing envelope size), A6.Maximum (??), and Halfletter. These are the selection for the window for PSE9.... once I move to the next window (after selecting print on the pse window)... my printer window comes up and all is well, though there is not a place to select paper size, just paper type (glossy, etc). Very frustrating to waste so much costly photo paper.

Maximum folder size in 10.5.2?
What is the maximum folder size now in 10.5.2?
For around 10 years I've been using numerous partitions to organize my files and for easy backup, but I know that quite a while ago (years) the maximum folder size was dramatically increased (2GB > ?).
Has anyone had problems with these larger folders?
My files are extremely important (clients' files) so safety and stability are more important to me than anything else (i.e. the simplicity of fewer partitions perhaps).
Of course I could simply do a search for specs regarding this on Apple's website, but it would not indicate as to just how stable such huge folders have been for everyone.
Thanks for any info on this.I went to
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HierarchicalFileSystem
And I did carefully read the Apple white paper but still no where do I see a maximum folder size for within a volume
So I can only assume there is no maximum... that is... that you can actually have literally all of your files and folders in a volume within one folder even if it takes up 90% of the volume's/partition's space.
I originally posted this because rather than reformatting a couple of my hard drives... I was considering moving a couple of the partitions contents (each with around 40 GB of important files) to a larger partition and place each partition's contents in to individual folders. In-other-words... moving two 40 GB partitions to two separate folders within another 100 GB + partition. Thereby freeing up two 40 GB partitions without having to reformat my drives.
Anyone see a problem with that? -

Hi,
Running VS 2005
I want to create a report that will be exported to Excel (not printed) once opened in Report Viewer. I have many columns so I need to have the report about 23 inches wide, but I also don't want to select a specific printer (No Printer selected for Print Setup). The max paper size when "No Printer" is checked is "Legal". Any way of adjusting the paper width higher than that?
thanks,
RonIf you're just exporting to Excel, you can make the column widths very narrow to have all fields exported. You may want to export as Data Only so the columns are wider when the spreadsheet is first opened.
Did you try to install a plotter printer driver, change the report to that (which should allow huge paper widths), then select No Printer? (Is Crystal remembering the maximum width based on the printer it was looking at when No Printer was selected?)

How to increase the Custom Paper Size to 24 inches by 24 inches? The product doesn't allow more that 1296 pts i.e. 18 inches. In Adobe InDesign 2.0, the product was allowing bigger sizes.
Here's a good answer (and no, I used InDesign 2.0, and I'm sure they did not reduce the maximum document size):

Default paper size scanning problem, LaserJet M1120n MFP
Hi, I just got a used LaserJet M1120n MFP. Installed the most up-to-date drivers form HP's website. Printing is fine over USB or LAN, however the WIA scanning driver defaults to paper size "Letter" and I can't scan A4 pages all the way. The bottom is always cut off and I get an unwanted strip besides the scanned document. Please, advise how to change the default paper size of the WIA driver to A4. I use Windows XP Pro. Looked everywhere but cannot find any settings that will allow me to change the default paper size. Any ideas?
I have been thinking, could default paper size be somehow be tied to system locale? My locale is European and all other device drivers do default to A4. I wonder how the WIA scanning driver chose to default to Letter size.
The TWAIN driver works fine (I can choose default paper size), though it is less intuitive than I expected. Too bad I can't use it over a LAN. Is there a way to calibrate the scanner for white as the background seems kind of dark?
Your suggestions and ideas are most appreciated. Thank you. Thanks for the reply, Spencer. I have used Adobe Acrobat to scan by means of the WIA driver, but when I do so the paper size selection box is dimmed (inactive) and I can't choose any paper size (nor any is preselected). I have also used Win XP's native Scanner and Camera Wizzard; it doesn't even have a paper size setting. Then I have used it with Win 7's native Windows Fax and Scan; no paper size setting here either.
Here is a useful thread on the same issue from Adobe's forum: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/844549
Reading around the forums I came across several posts where people discussed the impossibiity to set paper size when scanning using the WIA driver. Their problem was a bit different, though. The WIA driver had locked to size 'Legal' while they needed to scan in size 'Letter'.
The WIA interface was developed by Microsoft and here is what they have to say about the issue:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff548440%28v=vs.85%29.aspx
'Supported Scanner Paper Sizes
Although two WIA user interface components are able to display a list of page sizes to the user, there is no easy way for a WIA driver to know which page sizes a scanner supports.
Page Size in WIA Applications
There are no WIA properties that allow WIA drivers to report supported page sizes or that allow applications to specify page size directly. To communicate page size settings to a driver, an application must calculate the required size in dots per inch (dpi) and adjust the origin of the scan to conform with the registration requirements of the device.
Page Size in the Common Scanner Dialog and in the Scanner and Camera Wizard
Both the Common Scanner Dialog and the Scanner and Camera Wizard have a static table of supported page sizes in which each page size is described by its horizontal width and vertical height, both in increments of 0.001 inch. These page sizes are currently displayed only when the scanner is in document feeder mode.
The largest page size (by area) that a driver supports in page feed mode, as determined by the maximum bed size, is considered the default page size. Paper sizes that do not fit on the feeder or on the bed of the device are not offered to the user.' -- exactly my case!
Having tried the same WIA driver (developed by HP in this case) on several PC's running different WIndows OS and using non-US locale settings, I have came to the conclusion that HP may have hard coded the Letter paper size in the driver. I guess this works for North America but not in Europe where A4 is the standard size.
I guess I have to look into ways to get to that hard coded paper size setting in order to be able to make use of the driver. I don't even know if that will be possible but I'll keep on reading. Wish me luck -
HP LaserJet MFP M476dw paper size mismatch when copying or scanning from ADF
We have HP Color LaserJet MFP M476dw that has an issue when copying or scanning from the ADF.
Put a single A4 sheet in the ADF and choose copy, with all settings correct & no resizing, and the output copy is moved down the page (increased top marging by a couple of inches).
My initial thoughts were a paper size issue (e.g. treating A4 as Letter or vice versa) but all settings look correct. I have even done a reset and started over and the problem remains.
If I take the original and place it on the flatbed and copy from there with all the same settings then it works fine.
There is a similar issue when scanning from the ADF. Again, scanning from the flatbed works fine.
I've tried all I can think of. Does anyone have any further suggestions? Could it be a fault in the ADF?

Try setting the initial value to 255MB. -
HP Officejet Pro 8100 ePrinter & custom paper sizes
Have found all the helpful instructions about creating new custom paper sizes in Windows 7. But am complete novice & need to buy a printer for a charity. Settled on this model because of good reviews but most work will be 1 document of custom paper size. Need to know if the instructions given are fail-proof!! (Before i spend their money.)
This question was solved.
View Solution.Hello invqn,
after having performed some detailed research, as well as installing the Pro 8100 (and other products) on a Windows 7 system, we determined the Pro 8100 doesn't support Custom Sizes: that was by design and intent.
Note that one of our engineer's proposed using a different set of drivers (from an older device) as a potential work-around, but this is unproven and may serve to limit your overall functionality of the device.
However, we did confirm that a newer device that is currently out, the HP Officejet Pro 8610 (or 8620 or 8630) e-All-in-One, DOES support custom sizes; these are multi-function printers.
Using the instructions in the link you sent, you can create new Forms with custom sizes and it will show up in the Printer Properties for you to use/select. It supports custom sizes from 3.00 x 5.00 in. to 8.50 x 14.00 in.
Our intent is only to provide information on what we know; you might take a moment and perhaps see if an HP Marketing representative might be able to give you more information, but that's what we have.
We hope this helps....

Can't change paper size in Print module
When I click on Page Setting in the Print module I get a pull-down menu that has options for Printer, Presets, Layout, Pages per Sheet, Layout Direction, Border, and Two Sides but there is no option available for changing paper size. This was not a problem before I updated to 1.2. How do I get that option back? Thanks.
Have you downloaded and installed the latest Driver for the Epson R1800.
It has been said that it is best, even if you have a ppc to download the latest IntelMac Driver to install for that printer, for best results.
