Maximum RAM upgrade?

What is the maximum RAM I can safely install in my 21.5 inch, Mid 2011, iMac 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5.
I have the 2 x 2 GB that came factory installed.

If you model is iMac11,2 then it's 16 GB.

Go go Crucial.com and check to see what is available for your model.  Crucial is a very reputable memory supplier for Macs.

  • What is the maximum ram upgrade possible on a Mid 2011 iMac 21.5-inch

I have an iMac 21.5-inch, Mid 2011 running OS X 10.9.5 which currently has 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 Ram. The Hard Drive has 149.87 GB free out of 499.25 GB. It has been running slow for a while now. I would like to know what is the "TRUE" maximum Ram Upgrade possible. The reason I say "TRUE" is because the specs say one things when I find others saying another. I would like to install the maximum Ram that will increase the speed to its optimum. I have read some information that this particular computer will not take advantage of anything past a certain amount of ram.
So with all that said, I am asking for specific numbers, types of ram, suggestions etc etc...
    Thanks

Here's what you can do and need:
    Maximum Memory
32 GB (Actual) 16 GB (Apple)
    Memory Slots
    4 - 204-pin PC3-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
Sources for memory I recommend are:
    OWC
    DataMem

  • Maximum RAM upgrade for Mac Mini mid-2010?

    Hi,
I have a Mac Mini mid-2010 (Model 4.1).   I purchased it with 4 Gb RAM, and I am now considering a RAM upgrade.
I currently am running OS 10.95 - and not particularly happy with the sluggish performance that has been the hallmark of my 'upgrade' to Mavericks on this machine. I figure that increasing RAM can only help what has become a sometimes teeth-gnashingly slow computer.
In any case, the Apple tech specs document says that the maximum RAM for this machine is 8 Gb.  However, the macmemory.com web page for this model Mac Mini says it can handle 16 Gb so long as the OS is 10.7 or greater.
Is this true?  Anyone tried this?
    Thanks,
    HJ

    Memory capabilities:

  • Early 2011 13" MacBook Pro maximum Ram upgrade amount

I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro 13" and am looking to upgrade my ram. I notice one Apple's website the maximum recommended amount to upgrade is only 8 Gb. Is it possible to upgrade to a higher amount without affecting my MacBook?

Not negatively. Apple didn't test it with the higher capacity modules before releasing it and didn't update its specifications afterwards.

  • IMac 8,1 2.66Ghz Core 2 Duo maximum ram upgrade possible

I have an iMac 8,1 2.66 Ghz Core Duo, right now I have 2Gb Ram, and I am going to upgrade it. Some forums suggest that it is possible to install a 2GB and a 4GB slot to get 6Gb, and some others says it is better leave it up to 4Gb. Can someone tell me if I should go for 6 or 4GB, I obviously prefere going for 6. Thanks

    6 GBs is the max.
Correct and reliable Mac RAM can be purchased from online Mac RAM sources Crucial memory or OWC (macsales.com).
Here's the 6 GB RAM kit from OWC (macsales.com)

  • Maximum RAM upgrade possible on a mid 2011 iMac 27"

Can I upgrade my mid 2011 Imac 27" to 32 gb of RAM.  Apple handbook says  only possible to upgrade to 16gm (4x 4gb cards).  Has anyone upgraded a 2011 Imac 27" to 32gb of RAM?

Yes, both OWC, http://www.macsales.com and Crucial, http://www.crucial.com offer 32 GB ram kits that are guaranteed to work...to do that you would be best to not buy from sources that are not Mac specialists and who guarantee their ram to work.

Hi everybody, can I upgrade the RAM of my HP Pavilion dv7 (LX258EA#ABZ) / CPU i72630QM / mainboard 3389 / WIN7 64 Home Premium? I have 2x4 gb (i THINK DDR3 dual channel) and I would go for 2x8gb modules. Is there a compatibility charts somewhere, just to be sure to buy the right modules? Thanks for your replies,Guido

  • I want to upgrade my macbook pro 15-inch i7 2.3GHz memory and I want to know what is the maximum RAM it could take

I want to upgrade my macbook pro 15-inch i7 2.3GHz memory and I want to know what is the maximum RAM it could take

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
It looks like you have got an Early 2011 or newer MacBook Pro, so you can use 16 GB of RAM. You can buy more RAM at OWC or Crucial. Remember that you cannot upgrade RAM in MacBooks Pro with Retina display
In case you have got a Mid 2010 MacBook Pro, you can only install 8 GB of RAM

  • What is Maximum possible RAM upgrade?

I have a Macbook Pro , 2011, 8.2 , Core i7 , 2.4 GHz with 4 GB RAM. I need maximum possible RAM upgrade. I checked in www.eshop.macsales.com. They offer 16GB 1333 RAM.  As it is about 150$, I want to confirm if the information is correct.

The max capacity you can currently stuff into two sticks is 16GB and the 2011 models can happily use it all. Speedwise you have to stick with the speed built into the logic board: 1067 MHz for 2010, 1333 MHz for 2011 and 1600 MHz for 2012. Faster RAM won't benefit the system and may even lead to timing issues and weird glitches. For the same reason, it is best to use Mac-certified RAM, that ensures the correct CAS timing.

  • Satellite M110 - RAM upgrade and maximum capacity

I have a Satellite M110 and would like to upgrade the RAM as much as possible. It has the original RAM from the factory. The manual gives me the model numbers for memory depending on the model of the computer - ie either PC2-4200 or PC2-5300. How do I tell which one I have? I can't see either of those numbers anywhere. Is 1GB the largest RAM this computer will take?

    Hi lenore104,
The maximum RAM capacity is also depending on the chipset. Furthermore the maximum RAM capacity can also be found in user manual.
    Did you find this information?
The specifications of memory modules you can find on memory module itself. So if you remove the current memory module you should see a sticker on it with technical information such as PC2-4200.
If you post the exact model number of the notebook we can search on Toshiba website for maximum capacity.

    hi StefanThePribic,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
If you system model has two overlaying slots
It should work with 8 GB    two 4GB cards
You can also take a look at this

  • Macbook late 2008 13" RAM upgrade?

So I have this old Macbook from 2008 called "Macbook Ultimo 2008".
The Macbook is not a pro model and the only aluminium from 2008.
Here's a guide on how to upgrade the RAM on my Mac from Apple: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1651#link2 .
Officially this Macbook was released with a maximum RAM capacity of 4GB in 2 slots. A new firmware update made it possible to upgrade all the way up to 8GB of memory. Article: http://blog.macsales.com/9102-secret-fir...ks-use-8gb .
Now i really want to know if i can just upgrade only 1 slot with a 4GB RAM card and keep one of my old RAM cards in there. This will let me have 6GB of memory.
I just don't know if the RAM are going to work together and if I have to upgrade to 8GB instead.
Yes, i could upgrade to only 4GB of memory but since i can upgrade all the way up to 8GB, I think I'm going to make it a bit faster than just 4GB.
The RAM I've looked at: http://translate.google.com/translate?sl...l7&act=url
    Official memory card specifications:
"- Double Data Rate Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Module (DDR SO-DIMM) format
    - 30mm
    - 1 GB or 2 GB (Now up to 4GB)
    - 204-pin
    - PC3-8500 DDR3 1066 MHz Type RAM".
I'm not wanting to spend more than $60 on this!
    Thanks for the help.

I have the same MacBook model (5,1 Late 2008). I managed to install 8GB of RAM without problems.
You need to update your EFI Boot ROM to MB51.007D.B03 to install more than 5GB.
Check in System Profiler what version of EFI Boot you have, if it's MB51.007D.B03, you can install 4+4 GB of RAM. Once you have ensured that the EFI Boot is the correct version, make sure tour O.S. is updated to OSX 10.6.6 (or newer version). I have OSX 10.8.3 with 8GB, the manufacturer is Samsung. No problems at all.

  • Is there a maximum RAM capacity for a Macbook Pro 13 inch Mid 2009?

My questions is essentially, is there a maximum RAM capacity for a Macbook Pro 13 inch Mid 2009? I'm aware there are two RAM slots in my machine, but in past experiences with other laptops/desktop computers (not Apple) there was a default maximum which couldn't be overidden despite how much RAM was inserted.

You can upgrade up to 8GB using 2 x 4GB 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 modules. That's the maximum (unlike 2011 and later models which Apple tells you can only hold 8GB but can actually run 16GB).
If you do order RAM, order from a Mac memory specialist - Crucial, OWC, Corsair, etc.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Maximum RAM for HP Pavilion All-in-One MS228sc

Since my HP Pavilion All-in-One MS228sc is getting increasingly slow - even after releasing space on the hard-drive I am researching on the possibility for a RAM upgrade.
The Pavillion ins "born" with 2 GB RAM in the slots and 2 GB virtual RAM.
My question if I can subsitute the one or both the RAM blocks with 2GB block. In that way I will get 3 or 4 Physical RAM instead of 2.
I assume that will increase the performance a great deal
    This question was solved.

If some how your machine came with only 2Gb of RAM, you can upgrade to 4Gb (max) using PC2-6400 RAM as mentioned above.
