Maximum recording time in Soundtrack Pro?

Does any one know if there is a maximum recording time in Soundtrack Pro?
Thanks!
Captain

I think they got rid of this feature, with that new audio file format CAF and all...
It'd be nice if they had kept that feature...very useful.
Cheers

  • Set maximum record time?

Can I set maximum record time in Logic 8? Recording an hour-long live program unsupervised, & I'd like it to stop afterwards.
(I don't know any problem with continuing recording for hours until the hard drive is full? But it's not necessary.)
    thanks

You can use the Auto-Punch In/Out function to set Logic stop recording automatically.
Also, set the bar value for the project end (at the transportbar, under the tempo).
For How long you can record depends on you HD capacity, but also the file format (aif,wav,caf...) the bit depth and the sample rate.
each format has its own limit.
Refer to user manual and check for the best file format for your purpose.

  • Zoom H4n record direct onto Soundtrack Pro

I'm trying to use a new Zoom H4n recording device as the mic to record onto soundtrack pro - simlple, stereo recording of my voice.
I can't seem to get Soundtrack Pro to recognize my H4n. I tried it with usb audio i/f, and I've tried it with the 1/8" mic jacks.
Can anyone give me a hand?
    thanks

  • Maximum recording time based on disk size and ram?

I read about changing the tempo and beats per measure - and hangtime posts a link re: max. time - thanks for that.
But, I'm thinking about taking my iBook w/ 1.4 processor and 512 of ram to a gig to record approximately 3 hours straight - is this going to work?
Am I limited based on free disk space as well, (which I'm not sure how much i have!)
    thanks in advance.

Well, you read HT's FAQ which tells you that GB 2 will never record for 3 hours straight.
Anyway I wouldn't use GB to record, since it's not reliable enough, I would use a plain audio editor like Audacity or Soundstudio - they are made for that purpose.
As for disk space: You need about 10 MB per Minute if you record "CD quality" (which is what GB uses). That adds up just short of 2 Gigabytes for 3 hours. Any Finder window of your hard disk will tell you how much space there is available.
Processor speed and RAM are not an issue when you're recording one single audio track.

  • Getting Soundtrack Pro to record with M-Audio Firewire Solo?

I'm having trouble trying to record 'live' into Soundtrack Pro. I've got a mic into analog mixer into M-Audio Firewire Solo audio interface into ibook set up.
In STP, I can select firewire channels 1 to 2 (under "Recording" tab) for the input device but nothing is recording when I hit the record button. the mic>mixer bit is working fine. I'm quite certain the mixer>audio bit is working so I think its a problem with compatibility between the M-Audio Firewire Solo device and Soundtrack Pro software....although it shows up as an option in the select audio input/output settings in STP... I've also got the latest Tiger driver for the Firewire Solo device and the latest update for STP.
I CAN record from the in-built mic on the ibook so that bit works...
Currently, I've been recording individual tracks into Audacity then exporting them all as separate tracks into Soundtrack Pro for post production as AIFF files (drag and drop them into STP in the order I require). I'm doing this as a temporary measure until I can find out how to get M-Audio Firewire Solo talking to Soundtrack Pro.
    Anyone got any ideas?

Well, I got it working with Soundtrack Pro and Audio Hijack Pro in the end. It seems that only the front side of M-Audio FireWire Solo recording interface actually seems to work and only the right channel (mono). Its a little bit annoying but it works...not sure why the back ones did not work (s/pdif, balanced and unbalanced phone jacks plugs), perhaps its something to do with the fact that the front has gain level knobs and the back doesn't....hmm...maybe not enough power to drive the back connectors?
Anyway, if any of you happen to use M-Audio FireWire audio interfaces (analog to digital converter) and you face a similar problem, then its probably going to be a similar thing...

  • TS2510 problem with soundtrack pro v2.0.2 under snow leopard

Hi, I've just upgraded my mac book to snow leopard and now when I try to record something with soundtrack pro v2.0.2 through the line input jack, the internal microphone is still switched on and none of the preferences allow me to switch to the input jack,ks
Does anyone know whether STP v2.0.2 will run ok under snow leopard? If I need to upgrade the drivers, does anyone know where I can find these and how to instal them.
    Many thanks.

    There are no "drivers".
Use Audio MIDI Setup to set your audio input.
    Good luck.

  • Does imovie have a limit on recording time?

I plan on recording a seminar from an external camera directly into iMovie.  Is there a maximum recording time?

    No time limit.
But you'll need a lot of hard drive space to hold the file. And if something goes wrong you won't have anything unless you also record to the camera.

  • Need Soundtrack Pro or equivalent as standalone app. (not bundled with FCS)

I do in-house editing of seminar videos for a small organization. The bottleneck is cleaning up the audio tracks of oral clicks and other vocal noises we don't want in the video. It would greatly speed up the process if we could have 2 people working simultaneously on the audio tracks.
I'd be happy to purchase another copy of Soundtrack Pro to do this. But I can't justify $1299 to get it as part of the Final Cut Studio bundle because I don't need a 2nd copy of all the other applications. I have not found any other audio editing application that has the features I use all the time in Soundtrack Pro: Set Ambient Noise Print/Replace with Ambient Noise.
Does anyone know of another application that does this? I also need the app. to include an equivalent to the pencil tool to clean up clicks. (hopefully for less than $300).

What keeps you from crossgrading if you've got other FCS apps?
Here's another option. Get Apple Motion used. Then crossgrade to FCS for 200[total it's a freakin deal]! Where there's a will there's always a way...Hey.

  • FCP & Soundtrack Pro

I'm trying to send my audio from FCP time to Soundtrack Pro, it doesn't give me an option to send it to SOUNDTRACK PRO AUDIO FILE PROJECT, does anyone else have this problem. I like to fix my audio by using Soundtrack Pro, I saw an entry like mine in Soundtrack Pro but so far, noone has any answers to the same inquiry.
    many thanks in advance.
    kchen

I tried what Kevan suggested, change my audio settings and when sending the clip from inside FCP to Soundtrack, the option of SoundTrack Pro Audio Project remains GREY. I also tried copying the same clip and creating a new sequence, then sending that clip through fcp to Soundtrack pro, that option remains grey.
however, when I open Soundtrack pro independently, and then open the original Qtime file of that clip, I am able to see it in waveform. This is not productive because I'm fixing the audio in the original clip, no the clip I am using in my sequence. This is a mystery. I've sent clips from FCP before - there was no problem. Recently I upgraded to 5.1.4 and now experiencing this obstacle.
I will attempt the FCP rescue and will post an update for anyone else experiencing this problem.
    Thanks for your continuing input.

  • What is recording time for voice memo

what is maximum recording time using voice memo

Before the 3.1 "update" i had no problems recording my 1hour 10min classes. I was amazed , of how easy I could use it, and even when my recordings on my iPhone wouldn't load and play I could easily track them down with iPhoneExplorer and convert them from .mov top .mp3 files.
In my case it automatically stops recording at about 32 minutes. This has even cost me money, I downloaded the iTalk app but i can't transfer the recordings to my pc because I don't have a Wi-Fi connection. Then I PURCHASED the SpeakEasy app with which I could supposedly sync my recordings straight to iTunes, but for some reason it doesn't seem to find my recordings on my BackUp folder.
Apple definitely dropped the ball in this one, I mean, why even tell us to update our iPhones if you hadn't even checked if there were any bugs, especially as big as this one.
oh and another thing...can anyone link me?? where can i report this bug?? maybe if enough people report it it'll pressure them to fix this quickly.

  • Soundtrack Pro: Gain Greyed out

I am probably being thick...but when I try and record audio into soundtrack pro (v.1.0) via the line-in on my 17" Powerbook, the gain control remians greyed out. This of course results in a very low-level recording.
    Why is the gain greyed-out?
    Powerbook G4 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.1)   Soundtrack Pro v.1.0

OK, we've got a bit more information to share:
On the iMacs, the audio chipset in ASP is "Burr Brown PCM3052"
On our Mac Minis, it's "Intel high-definition audio."
On the Mac Minis, the gain slider DOES work. Furthermore, we've found that Garage Band DOES give an adjustable gain slider for the input on the iMacs. IOTW we can set analog record levels in Garage Band on the great majority of our machines, but not in Soundtrack Pro.
Any response from Apple employees on this issue would be very much appreciated.

  • Using Mbox 2 with Soundtrack Pro

Hi all. I was wondering if I can use an Mbox 2 to record audio with Soundtrack Pro, or do I have to use ProTools?

You should be able to use a digidesign interface with STP by utilizing the digi CoreAudio driver.

  • Soundtrack Pro pops out of record mode after 1 second  -  Help!

I have an ADR session tomorrow, so this one is pretty urgent. I have Soundtrack Pro 2.02 on my PPC G5 and I've used it to record vocal tracks for a long time, but I haven't used it a couple months. I started it tonight to do a couple test takes and hit the record button and it records for about 1 second then pops out of record mode. The playhead, however, continues to run. So it's not that it stops altogether, it just quits recording.
Nothing new in terms of hardware, same preamps, same mic. No new software that I can think of, just the standard updates. Searched the and found the same question asked a earlier this year but was never answered ( http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1382762&tstart=6 ). I hope someone knows what's going on. Thanks much.

    UPDATE:
I did a complete re-install of FCS and it's working now.

  • Professional Podcast Recording - Soundtrack Pro

I'm looking to start recording a high-quality podcast to be featured in iTunes. Before I make my investment of hardware and software I wanted to get an opinion from the forums on Soundtrack Pro. Apple recommends Soundtrack Pro as it's preferred software for making professional podcasts. I'm looking for some opinions to validate this claim. I have a few questions about it myself:
    1. If you've used GarageBand is Soundtrack Pro easy to learn and use?
    2. Is it easy to create live podcasts in Soundtrack Pro? Meaning, can you make a podcast without a lot of post-production work?
    3. Along the lines of live podcasts, is it easy to have music and sound effects queued up to play during a live recording?
    4. Is there a better piece of software than Soundtrack Pro to accomplish what I'm looking to do?
Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

I'm Tee Morris and I'm one of the authors behind Podcasting for Dummies and Expert Podcasting Practices for Dummies. It was in my first year (2005) in podcasting I made the jump from GarageBand to Soundtrack Pro, and I have no regrets in doing so. While many of my podcasts are simple in their production, my podcast novels tend to be production heavy. I prefer them that way. Soundtrack Pro allows me a few extra features (and some post-production tools that are superior in performance) that GarageBand lacks.
This does not mean that I have completely abandoned GarageBand as an essential podcasting tool.
To address your questions one at a time...
    1. The learning curve between GB and STP is minimal at best. I was worried about that, too, but was recording within minutes of launching the application. There is a lot to STP and I feel as if I continue to learn new things about it. The jump is an easy one to make.
    2. Now that STP offers multitrack recording with verison 2 it is very easy to create live podcasts. As it is with any dramatic upgrade (and the change between STP 1.5 and STP 2 is a pretty big one), there are a few quirks. I am confident that STP is on the right direction. The multitrack recording ability is fantastic, and its features geared for podcasters are a real blessing. Exporting at mp3 is a touch slow (I've seen some "5 seconds remaining..." files take five minutes to export.), but still a nice upgrade from Apple.
    3. As far as playing live music and sound effects, I'm going to have to say STP takes a hit on that. To play live drop-in's in my podcasts, I have to rig up an audio loop from my speakers to the mixer board, and then use cart software (in my case, SoundByte) for the audio. It works. It would be nice to see STP come up with a cart interface similar to SoundByte but I would rather see the Enhanced Podcasting feature improved.
That is the other hit I think STP v2 suffers. It's promising Enhanced Podcasting features, and after several attempts and even a few checked resources, I am either still missing a step or the STP Enhanced Podcast features are not quite right. The images pop up fine in the m4a file, but none of the URL's embed. As it is a new feature for STP, the ability to incorporate images I find a bit clunky when compared to GarageBand. GB's ability to make Enhanced Podcasts stands head and shoulders above STP's and that is why we use it for our enhanced feed at Podcasting for Dummies.
    4. With the amount of production demands in my podcasts, I can't imagine NOT using STP. I've been very happy with it since 2006, continue to be happy with it, and look forward to the improvements coming in the future. I do wish they released it as a stand alone and think it a shame that many will not turn to STP for their podcasting solutions as it is bundled with the Final Cut Suite. That is a mistake on Apple's part. I find the FCS a worthwhile investment, but if you are not into video then you are wasting money.
That being said, I think GB is a better tool for Enhanced Podcasting, and always keep an eye and ear out for new software packages that offer something for what we do. In my experiences since 2005, I find Soundtrack Pro a must-have for audio professionals and high-production podcasters. Many third-party vendors, however, are working on some really cool stuff (ala Wire Tap Studio Pro) and Apple should stay on their game. The competition is out there.
Hope this answers your questions. Good luck!

  • Hi, I have small problem, for some time in music area I had two folders to use 1. Apple loops for soundtrack pro 2. Final Cut pro sound effects now both are gray and with out content may I know what happend

I just went through this and it appears that my Focusrite Saffire was the culprit. I connected all the outputs on the focusrite according to the way the jacsk on the back were labeled and then set up the multichannel speaker setup to match. Then I went into STP, created a pink noise clip and panned it around, the LFE, center and rears were not in the right place.
I reconnected the hardware to match the 5.1 pan pot in STP then changed the multichannel speaker setup to match. Everything appears to be correct now but I would have loved to have been able to just assigned the output busses to correct outputs in the saffire.
Next step is to pan that pink noise around with my SPL meter to calibrate the room.
