Maximum Temperature?

I have bought a new Macbook, the 13.3" macbook aluminum (MAC OS X 10.5.6), a couple of months ago.
I was reading up on apple and it said that the Operating temperature should be 50° to 95° F (10° to 35° C). I have the temperature sensor widget, and it tells me that my "CPU A temperature diode" is 40° C and "SMART disk Fujitsu..." (I have no idea what this is, if possible can somebody tell me) is 27° C - 35° C when in normal usage, but sometimes the "CPU A temperature diode" get's up to 80° C when I'm watching videos or using big programs.
Both of the temperatures exceeds the "operating temperature" that was stated on the apple site. I'm not sure if i misunderstood what operating temperature means but is CPU A temperature diode of 40° C - 80° C too high? What is the maximum temperature for the CPU? I'm concerned because I've just got this laptop and I really care about it.
If possible, can you guys explain these details to me.
Thank you very much.

And do you by any chance know what "SMART disk Fujitsu temperature" is?
And is the "CPU A temperature diode" that i see on the widget the correct >temperature of my Macbook or am i looking at the wrong thing?
It just means the Fujitsu disk is S.M.A.R.T. enabled, so it's calling the disk
"SMART disk Fujitsu".
What is S.M.A.R.T. technology?
S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) is a technology built into most modern hard disks. If enabled, it lets the end user query the hard drive about it's health and performance.
So, it's only a name, they could've just said... "Disk Temperature" but since your drive is SMART enabled, it was added to the name. SMART has nothing to do with the temperature.

  • What are the maximum temperatures for my MacBook Pro?

I have this MacBook Pro (3,1). I know there are maximum temperatures at which the system will shut itself down in order to prevent damage. I know this because I have seen it happen a couple of times
When I run Windows, apparently the OS doesn't care to throttle power in order to reduce dangerous heat like Mac OS X does. I now have a program that monitors CPU and GPU heat when I run Windows 7, and it will sound an alarm if they reach a pre-set ceiling.
My question is, how do I know what the emergency shutdown temperature is so I can set the alarm limit appropriately (low enough to trigger before catastrophe, but high enough that it doesn't trigger when things are still okay)?
This page from Intel seems to be telling me that the CPU should not go above 100°C ...does that seem like the number I'm looking for?
Nvidia doesn't seem to say anything about temperatures on the product page. User forums seem only to speculate on what is or isn't safe with no real specifications to back them up.
How can I find these numbers, either from Intel & Nvidia, or from Apple? Or, is there a general ceiling that I can go by to make sure my alarm warns me before an emergency shutdown?

  • Maximum temperature - CPU ?

    hey there,
i was wondering what the maximum temperature the build-in cpu should reach is. My CPU sensors show a recent temperature of 84 degrees celsius which would be 183.2 degrees fahrenheit and I assume this can't be too good for the hardware.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Guys
I was wondering about how high the temp of my MBP can reach before it can really harm the hardware. Thanks for the info. I also found this free utility:
    http://www.bresink.com/osx/TemperatureMonitor.html
that can give all these details:
    CPU A Temperature Diode: 57.0℃

  • Satellite L650-14E maximum temperature, and minimum on idle

Hello guys, and i hope my question is not absurd. What is the maximum temperature on this kind of laptop? AS perhaps some of you know, L650-14E has a strange coolyng system: http://img580.imageshack.us/i/dsc0092111.jpg/
for example, i play poker on PKR, a 3D software, and the temperature of the CPU is 63-68 Celsius, and i idle mode, somewhere betwen 45-56.
    thank you

    hi Korn,
i agree with xardas and macius: this is a caused by thermal design.
i want to dissuade you from drilling/cutting holes in the base plastics.
if you alter the airstream some components will not be supplied with fresh cool air anymore.
making a "bypass" for the cool air leads to a higher temperature on other components...
if you stress the components by running your machine at high workload try to optimize the cooling settings in the "toshiba power saver" options.
make sure that nothing blocks the intake of fresh air e.g. a tablecloth or someting like that!
but this temperature looks not unnaturally...

  • What is the maximum temperature for a mid 2010 MacBook?

I need to know the maximum running temperature for my mid 2010 (white unibody) MacBook. And at what temperature should I shut it down? I'm also curious if I should turn up the speed of my fans and what speed I should set them at. Thanks for everyones support!
It would also be great if someone could provide a link or tell me where they found the info because I want to make sure it is official, I couldn't seem to find it on Apple's technical specs nor google.

MacBooks are designed to shut themselves down if they reach a temperature above which they should not operate. It also controls its own fans, you should not mess with that. I don't know what that temperature is. If your MacBook is running too hot you may want to try resetting the System Management Controller, which is a good first step for all sorts of power related issues.
    Best of luck.

  • Macbook Pro Retina Display MAXIMUM temperature?

What is the MAXIMUM CPU and GPU ( each individually ) temperature for the Macbook Pro Retina Display before it shuts down as a result of overheating?, an exact number if you would know.
And what is another app that can control the fans speed other than SMC FanControl and Speed Fan? ( One that ACTUALLY makes the computer obey the RMP you adjust ).
And finally, does Mountain Lion 10.8.1 consume more power and heat it more than other OS's ?
I know all about how the Mac itself knows how to manage the fans and all that, I just need the answers to those questions.
    Thanks

    JoeyR wrote:
I'm guessing he meant "RPM" and made a typo...
Perhaps; we'll have to wait and see.
But since his concern appears to be overheating (as is mine), I don't think he wants to slow the fans down.
I have found that if an older Mac is migrated to a newer Mac, the preference file may need to be either hacked or deleted and recreated to get the fan speed settings to behave properly. Perhaps that's what's going on.

Apple does not provide this information. Though the hard drive details can be looked up at the manufacture website. Most consumer grade drives have a maximum operating temperature of 60C. Though heat can play into lifespan of the drive so I would not want the drive running anywhere near that for extended periods. My advice is to keep the hard drive under 50C.
What applications you are running? How much RAM do you have? and how much free space is left on your hard drive?

  • How to determine the maximum temperature in a consecutive of 2 minutes?

I am doing the following application:
    1) Temperature signal is read in every 1 second, define in a while loop;
    2) I want to make sure that in a consecutive of 2 minutes, temperature value is always lower than a value, say 10 degree C;
    3) If it can meet the criterion, returns true, otherwise continue monitoring until it is true.
A possible way it to define an 1D array with 120 elements, but I would like to know if there is a more elegant way? I cannot put the array in a subVI, as it is destroyed once subVI is left. LabVIEW system provides "RMS" calculation function (everything is in a sub VI) and I do not the function used in that VI.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Ah!! so thats what you meant, ok.
You can easily implement this as a subvi:
This is what the subvi would look like. You would use a while loop that only iterates once with an un-initialised shift register. This will then store the last value in its shift register.
This is how it would look on your main vi:
In this version you do not need to wire the time limit, its default value is 120. If you ever want to change this though you can wire in a new value.

  • What is the maximum temperature for a macbook generic processor to operate?

Right now the temperature for my cpu is 185 degrees Fahrenheit. Is that bad? Whats the highest temperature a Macbook can properly operate?

Games & video editing, along with Flash videos & games, are some of the most processor-intensive tasks. If you're doing those things, you'll definitely see an increase in temperature.
If not, you may want to look at Activity Monitor (Applications>Utilities), sorting the processes by CPU, and see if any process is stuck.

  • What are the minimum and maximum temperatures?

    Hi,
I have the previous white Imac, and I was wondering what are the max temperatures
    for these machines?
I use Istat pro, and sometimes I noticed the Power supply goes up to 65C or a tad more...mainly when I'm using Photoshop CS2, or maybe skype...
What is the max temp for the power supply?
I know a lot of people use the smcFanControl application to increase the fan speed and cool the machine...I was wondering if I should use that to?
    Monica

""""There's no need to use any fan control software. Besides the software only increases the fan idle speed and has no other impact. The use of it could also void your warranty.""""
first of all.....smc fancontrol does what its supposed to do...cool off your mac....when i boot in to vista and play cod4 on my mac i use fan control...it keeps the temp down....there is an impact to how fast your fans spin.....and it will not void your warranty......it is an extremely usefull tool...it will keep your video card cool when playing games....as i type this iam ripping cd's and noticed the temp at about 56celsius.....i increased my fan speed and the mac is at 37celcius...obviously this works and has a purpose....

  • Maximum temperatures?

Using Temperature Monitor, I sometimes see CPU as high as 84 deg C (with Core temps about 10 deg less). This usually happens with processor intensive activity (eg. web videos). Is that too high?
Generally, however, the CPU temp runs high 60's to low-mid 70's.
    Thanks
    Ken

85 deg c seems a bit high, and its probably the graphics processor heating up. I have seem mine go into thr 70's and 80's on occasion. Its a 1.8 processor.
You could try using the CoolBook app to underclock the CPU.. but it may not make a huge difference since it is probably graphics related.
I would do more testing, and make sure vents are not blocked and it is raised up, and that you don't have a case/skin insulating it (i.e. invisible shield) to trap heat.

  • Satellite L650-14E - Maximum CPU temperature

Hello guys and sorry for my language.
Can you tell me what is the optimal temperature for this laptop and what is the maximum temperature?
    thank you

    Hello
The CPU temperature is depending from a lot of factors and also depending on the CPU model.
Why is it so important for you?
If you start Toshiba PC Health Monitor you can check the temperature. It shows a graphic of current CPU temperature.

  • Maximum underwater temperature?

I've googled it and looked it up in the manual, but i just can't find it. Does anybody know what the maximum temperature of the Smartband Talk is, when underwater? (That's a different temperature than the one that's about maximum and minimum air temperature, am I right?)
    Thanks in advance, Rik

It is not the same, think about it, if you have a pool with cold water lets say at 5C and its a cold day, if you are standing outside it might feel cold and you might be able to withstand it but if you jump in the pool you will get out soon after, why? (without taking into consideration a really humid environment)
In other words, don't use your phone underwater if the water its really hot, not a good idea.

also i want to know what the normal temperature of the mac book pro running with normal activity and when running a lot of application what is the maximum temperature i should start to worry when using mac with normal applications or a lot of application and activities !!

You can't really rely on sensor software to determine if something is amiss whether it be by temperature or fan speed. What you can do is run the hardware test that came with the Mac, if you suspect a hardware issue, or take it in for service. There is no place where Apple actually discloses the normal internal temperature or fan speeds that I've seen in its regular user documentation. The software which gives you such measurements can only give you a user established guideline based on user experience, and not one of any Apple established limits. Too often people try to control based on software that gives fan or temperature readings, and actually damage their Macs more inadvertantly because they don't understand the entire nature of how the computer has a self-regulating temperature engine.

  • Mac Pro 8-core X5365 CPU temperature

I've got an 8-core Mac Pro which is crunching SETI@home 24/7, with Hardware Monitor monitoring the CPU temperatures and other vital stats. After reading the Intel Quad-Core Xeon Proc datasheet, I'm a little edgy about the operating temperature of these X5365 CPUs, currently registering at 65 - 70ºC on load for each temperature diode, and fail-safe temperature set to 73ºC to disable SETI@home via Hardware Monitor. I also have smcFanControl speeding up the fans because my ambient temperature varies thanks to myself being in a tropical region, my ambient temperature can reach 33ºC at times, but down to 28ºC when air-conditioned.
My question is, what is the maximum temperature for these CPUs before they run into the risk of being fried/permanently damaged..?
Inputs from the Mac Pro-DC/grid community are also welcomed here.
    Thanks.

my 8-core is running seti 24/7 since may without any problem, although my ambient temps dont rise above 30 degrees centigrade...and that's using the optimised apps which make the processor run hotter
the fans on the machine run 600-2000 rpm all day and all night, i dont expect it to lessen the life of the machine whatsoever. it should be capable of running flat out all its life, that is, after all why we spend so much on these machines in the first place !
if you only use 4 cores perhaps you should buy a 4-core mac ? he heh just joking...
as mentioned earlier, when things get really too hot the OS will shut the system down, and if that doesnt happen then the cpus themselves will shut down...
the heatsinks and fans on these machines are fully capable of coping if your macine is running withing the specified ambient temp range which for the mac pro is 10° to 35° if your seeing ambient over 35 then smc fan control is probably a good idea otherwise it should be fine
