Maximum upgrade?

My daughter just got an iMac G3 500MHz with a slot loading CD rom drive. I'm in the process of upgrading to OS X 10.3.9. It only has 128Mb RAM, but I can upgrade that.
What I'm wondering is how fancy a CD/DVD drive I can install in it. I'd like something that will burn CDs and read DVDs. Will this machine support that? What brands/models of drives should I look for?

go to Apples website and look.  That's what anyone else here would do.

  • MacPro1,1 Dual-Core maximum upgrades

Where would I find the imformation for upgrades for MacPro1,1 Dual-Core Intel Xeon 2.66 GHz, as far as core, memory, and graphic display maximum capacity

First off, the Mac Pro uses SATA (not IDE) drives.
Second, apple advertises the max size as being the "max size currently". So during that time when you bought the MP, the largest size SATA drive was 750GB; that's why apple said 4 x 750gb. But in essence you can go up to whatever the largest is on the market. So 4 x 2TB is fine.

  • X230t RAM Maximum Upgrade

I have a Lenovo X230 Tablet (Type 3434) with 4 gigs of RAM with a Intel Core i7-3520M with original intention to upgrade the RAM at a later date (it's been two years now). It is currently running dual operating systems: Linux Mint 17 and Windows 8.1. I actually timed the booting and shutdown of both operating systems and found that the Linux Mint 17 was faster than the Windows 8.1 upgrade (upgraded from 8.0 which was upgraded from Windows 7). Microsoft friends of mine say that I need more RAM (they also said that I should switch over to a solid state drive to eliminate the loud fan noise because of the heat from the laptop).
I would like to install a maximum amount of RAM on the computer, which I believe is 16 GB (even though Intel specs say 32 GB, but I think it is based on what is programmed on the bios software on the motherboard that says it's 16 GB). I understand that there are two slots. I haven't opened up the laptop yet (rather have the right part ready to go first). So here is my question:
Can I purchase a 8GB and a 4GB to equal 16 GB in my already 4GB laptop or am I required to take the old 4 GB RAM chip out and plug in two 8 GB RAM chips? I come from the old school where we used to add RAM was back in the 1990s where we were required to install RAM chips in pairs with equal amounts (which I am glad that this old method is no longer required).
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You can add 8 gb stick to yours 4 gb (be sure you have one stick installed). Or replace 4 gb witth 2x8 gb. At your choice.
Of course, memory type should be the same you have if you'll decide to add one 8 gb stick - pc3-12800 1600 mhz. Do not chase for pc3-15000 memory, gain is minimal.
Also x230(t) specification says laptop supports normal voltage memory (1.5v). Actually x230 supports low voltage 1.35v memory too.
It's not recommended to mix sticks with different voltage and timings. Usually it's the last symbols within the p/n string, CL9 or CL10. Look for details at any diagnostic tool.

  • Maximum Upgrade of RAM possible

    Hello,
I'm a very satisfied owner of a MacBook Pro 4.1; 15"; 2.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo; 800 MHz; but recently I've been running Adobe CS5 programs and my RAM is not supporting me anymore.
I'd like to boost my RAM up but I don't know how much RAM is it possible to install and what would happen if I overload it.
I'm runnin OS X 10.6.4, it should have turned my machine into a 64-bit, didn't it? Therefore I should be able to install, let's say, 8GB+8GB, am I right?

Hi Marco: Your model of macBook Pro can use up to 6gB of PC2-5300 667mHz RAM. The maximum RAM is a function of the hardware, not the installed OS.
    Hope this helps

  • Hard drive and memory upgrade for macbook

What is the maximum hard drive I can install on a 2ghz core duo macbook, I currently also have 2g memory but want to know what the maximum upgrade on that can be as well. Trying to update the internal components and I thought i'd ask you often reliable folk in the community.

Sorry about that--missed the "also" in your first post! We get a lot of folks who don't understand the difference between RAM and hard drive space, and I sometimes make assumptions. Again, my apologies!
Check in System Profiler for your computer's Model Identifier; this can be used to determine the amount of RAM your computer can handle.
You can check the information yourself using crucial.com's memory scanner tool or by using MacTracker: http://mactracker.ca/

  • Hard drive and RAM upgrade

Hi I would like to know what are the maximum upgrades I can have on my laptop in RAM, hard drive and if possible processor. It is a HP pavilion dv8219ea with a Hewlett-Packard 30A6 56.24 board. Can you let me know the size and speed of both the RAM and hard drive and guide me to how to upgrade my processor. at the moment it is a 1.67 gigahertz Intel Core Duo with 64 kilobyte primary memory cache and 2048 kilobyte secondary memory cache. Thank you

    Thanks for all the help.
It is a kernel panic and unfortunately it can be caused by a bunch of things. But I think I have it figured out for now.
My first step was to put the old RAM back in with the new HD, no change with the problem.
Then I put the old HD back in with the old RAM (original config) and everything was back to normal.
Then I tried the new RAM with the old HD and everything is also good. (and faster!)
So it would appear that the new HD was flakey and needs to go back to OWC.
Hey, I'm a pro at taking apart and rebuilding a Mini now!
    Thanks again for the help,

  • Who can upgrade my macbook pro for me? (In Australia)

Just a basic macbook pro from apple store 2010, i am using cs6 now and need more ram and speed i quess...
I would like to know if the apple store can do it? or is there someone else who does it? I think im looking for a almost maximum upgrade, i want it to be fast anyways, with photoshop, premiere etc,..
    Im in WA.
    Cheers.

Easy upgrade you can do yourself. Instructions are on your computer: >About this Mac>More Info>Memory>Upgrade Instructions. Or, go here:
    http://www.macsales.com/
    Instructions, Videos, choices.
You do not want to pay Apple to do this...they're too expensive. Order your RAM from either Crucial or OWC, & do it yourself.

  • Upgrade video card/monitor

What is the maximum upgrade that I can do on my video card and maximum Cinema display I can use on this system?

The 9800 only has single-link DVI, so will not run a 30" display at full resolution. The only G4 board that has dual-link for a 30" display is the ATI Radeon® 9600 Pro PC & MAC Edition RoHS 256MB AGP
<http://shop.ati.com/product.asp?sku=3170809> This only works reliably in MDD and FireWire 800 G4s, though. It might work in some other G4s, but often won't.

  • Mac mini core duo 1.66 ghz processor upgrade

For all those who are savvy with compatibility of motherboards and processors could someone please tell me if I wanted to upgrade my cpu, what would the maximum processing power of the CPU be? My computer is old (mac mini intel from 2006) and I am willing to invest in a newer cpu to enhance my performance without completely changing my computer. With my motherboard how much (or what would be the maximum) upgrade for the CPU to still be compatible with the machine. Here are it's stats: . Thanks in advance.

I must disagree because although the socket of your mini won't accept the c2 mine readily will since it can support any processors with an m socket. Particularly the ones with up to a 4m cache and a 667 MHz bus. Meaning I can put a processor of up to 2.33 c2d in my machine called (t7600). It's strange your mini didn't accept the core 2 but I'm assuming you used a P socket processor instead of an M. The P socket has one more pin contact then the M making it 479 pin and incompatible with both our minis. Their are M socket t7600 processors available but P's are more common and probably what you tried in your mini. If you are interested in upgrading your machine it is possible since as you said yours and mine are similar in their processor sockets, it's just a matter of finding the most suitable processor to fit.   I've done extensive research on this topic in the past few days and felt the need to inform you all about the true capabilities of the mini. Also about the RAM the reason that a max of 2 is accepted is because of firmware which Lion has apparently fixed.

  • Upgrade Hard Disk in MacBook Pro

I recently purchased (within the last 2months) a new MacBook Pro with the 200GB Hard Drive. I decided that the upgrade to the 250GB was not a significant upgrade to warrant the money and that I would inquire at this point what the maximum upgrade Apple will perform. That leads me to my question.
I need to have Apple install the new hard drive because I have the 3 year protection plan and do not wish to void the warranty. Can someone tell me what the largest hard disk that Apple will install is?
    Thanks.

I have checked with several sources and found the same. Apple will not do the upgrade, but you need to find an authorized Apple Service Provider to do the upgrade.
Even though your Apple warranty is still intact, it will no longer cover the drive itself. so if your drive fails, you will have to use the warranty supplied by the drive-vendor (3 years on Hitachi Travelstar 500GByte). You'll probably have to pay labor to have it repaired though.
I just had the 500GB installed by an Apple Dealer in Boulder last week.

  • Want to know about my Notebook's Max Upgrade.

I want to know about my Laptop's Maximum Upgrade Capacity.
and can i upgrade my HDD from 1TB to 3TB ?
if i can then please give a WB Hardrives Suggestion.
and can i Add 2x8GB Ram of 1600 speed ?
    Thanks

It can take up to 16gb (2 x 8 gb) of DDR3L-1600 SO-DIMM memory. Here is the Service Manual:
    Manual
See pages 47-51. Your hard drive and memory are easily accessible.
The laptop will accept the largest 2.5 inch wide 9.5 mm thick SATA laptop hard drive you can buy in the market which I believe is 2 terabytes right now.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA6U12B97951
2 TB laptop drives are just not a good value in my opinion. They are slow, and very expensive.
You can also install an mSATA mSSD drive.

  • Maximum Ram and SSD?

    I have a 13 inch Mac Pro, 2.66.  Model Identifier MacBookPro 7,1 - Running OSX 10.8.4
Currently I have 4GB of Ram, will this system take more than that?  Also, is there a Max SSD that it can handle?  I am looking to get the system running faster if possible.
    Thanks

OK Thank you very much for your answer.  I wasn't sure since I saw a couple of conflicting posts, some said 4gb, others 8 and yet others 16...  I will be heading out shortly to get 16gb to get a maximum upgrade.
Again thanks for the quick answer.

  • Asus k55vd Memory Upgrade

Hi everybody, So... I want to upgrade my Asus k55vd memory. Here are the specs from Asus. It came with 6 gb RAM, and says it's upgradable to 8 GB. However, I have run the Crucial Scan tool, and the output: says that the maximum upgradable RAM is 16 GB. SWEET!  I have also run Piriform Speccy, here is the summary output:    I did not know I had 4 slots.  Last time I looked under the hood, it was only 2. Maybe I didn't look hard enough. After I post this, I'm going to look again.  So the question, who and what do I believe? Can I upgrade to 16 GB? Is this a BIOS update thing?  Thank you very much!

    Hi tweezy,
Thanks for contacting us today. I pulled up your system specs and I only show you have two slots, but a max of 16GB. We have sold quite a few 8GB modules for this system with a very low percent rate. We can guarantee that the memory will work in your system. I am unsure why that other tool is saying you have 4 slots. That seems unusual.
I don't see a BIOS update being needed, but your system is a few years old so you may want to check on that anyway... Since the system is a couple years old that might be why you show an 8GB max from ASUS. They don't go through and update manuals as new parts come out. 8GB modules haven't been available that long, and when they do become available we do extensive testing on our end in order to guarantee the compatibility.
Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.
