Maximum User Accounts supported by Windows-2003 server

I want to know the maximum limit of User Accounts supported by Window 2003 Server Logically. I think physically it depends upon Hardware and network infrastructure. So want to know logical limit. I heard about window 2000, that it supports near about 16000
and NT server 4.0 supports 40000 User accounts. But there is no source on the web to know about win2k3's Maximum Users account limit...
Thanks...

This article documents the scalability limits of Active Directory, including W2k3:
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc756101.aspx
Per the article, the maximum number of security principals (total of all users, groups, computers, and all objects with SIDs ever created) in Windows Server 2003 AD is 2^30 or 1,073,741,823.

  • Enterprise System 5 support for Windows 2003 server

    Hi,
Can you tell me if it is possible to run Sun Java Enterprise System 5 on a windows server and get the portal server to work?
Weare currently using JBoss ... and not very keen on it as a portal server.
I tried installing ES5 but was unable to get the portal server to play, then i read something about no support for windows 2003 in ES5.
Can someone confirm if this is true, unfortunately I am tied into using a windows server for lots of reasons. Is the download for ES4 still available? I believe Portal 6.0 instead of 7 is still ok for windows Server 2003 ?
If Portal 7.0 will play with windows, is there a guide somewhere that you can point me to as I am totally new to portals and could use a bit of an idiots guide.
    Any info welcome !!
    Cheers

The support for Sun Java System Portal Server on Windows in Java Enterprise System 5 is limited to evaluation and development only. The Windows distribution for Portal Server (PS 7.1 Update 2) is provided as a pre-configured install. To install it, you unzip the file, and run a small setup script to change the hostname information. The pre-configured installation is setup with a fixed install location, ports, etc. so it is not really suitable for a deployment for that reason. Once installed, all of the functionality is there otherwise except the ability to patch the system.
Note: I just tried going through the download links, and there is something broken in the Sun download center. I've sent an internal notification about this.

  • Whether Oracle 8.1.6 Supports Windows 2003 Server/Windows 2000 Adv. Server

    Dear All,
Whether Oracle 8.1.6 Supports Windows 2003 Server/Windows 2000 Adv. Server.
I tried it in windows 2003 server but i couldn't. Atlease tell me wheather it support windows 2000 adv. server. This is my first dba job.
Under Doc ID: 66397.1 saying Oracle 8.1.6 Not Support Windows NT Server 4.0 Terminal Server Edition.
Under Doc ID: 77627.1 saying Oracle 8.1.6 Supports Windows 2000 Support.
    Please help me out urgently.

Since you have access to Metalink, you could be looking at the Certify tab to find this information. But, the answer is that 8.1.6 is no longer supported by Oracle. However, you should be able to install it on Win 2000 advanced server. You just can't get any support for it.
The earliest version of db supported on Win 2003 was either 9.0 or 9.2, but 9.0 is desupported now as well.

  • CSA 5.1 windows 2003 server 64bit support

    Dear Netpros,
Could anyone tell me CSA 5.1 support windows 2003 server 64 bit OS.
I am trying with this machine but not installing.
    SWAMI

Currently CSA does not support 64-bit platforms. This is because Microsoft has included a feature called patchguard or something like it in those platforms in order not to allow to touch Kernel, yet this is the way CSA works.
Microsoft and Cisco still working on it. It's likely that CSA v6 will support 64-bit platforms but there's no release date yet.

  • Is there anyway to take a windows 7 computer that the user is completely setup and configured and connect to a windows 2003 server

I have spent hours setting up a windows 7 computer with programs cad files and other software and I would like to log in to a windows 2003 server
without having to start over. Is there anyway to do that without losing anything?
    Scott

Hello, I can't believe your the only one that answered my question.
What I have is 7 pc's that I bought in 2007 they are "HP M9077C" I am trying to
upgrade all of them the same way. I upgraded the memory to 8gb, replaced the
video cards to nvidia quadro k600 and installed windows 7 ultimate on all of them.
I then took just 1 of the computers and installed all of the software and changed the
settings to my preference which took hours to do. After I had the 1 computer
configured exactly the way that I wanted it I made a mirror image backup of it.
I then took that backup and restored it on the rest of the 6 computers that I have.
Now here comes the problem I need to be able to hook up the computers to my
windows 2003 small business server. When my IT guy did that he said that he had
to create a different user to connect to the file server when he did that my desktop
was empty and all of the settings are on the original user. Is there anyway to keep
the settings from the original user and connect to the file server so I don't have to
spend hours on each one of the computers. If there is a way to copy the original
user's settings that would be great. I also need to change the user name on each
    computer. Please let me know.
    Thanks Scott

  • Crystal Ras 9 on Windows 2003 Server, IIS6.0, single threaded?

We have just migrated from Windows 2000 server to Windows 2003 Server over the weekend. We ran into an issue with Crystal Ras 9.0 where the server serving up reports slower that our previous box. We are using IIS 6.0 and .net 2.0 framework with 1.1 installed for backward compat on our some of our old legacy codes. From what our developers can tell, the issue seems to be Crystal Ras queuing up the request and process them one at a time. That didn't happen before the migration. In fact, we also saw it working in our test environment before the migration. Once the pool is filled no further reports are generated which causes all report to stop which also starts to hang our server. They symptoms is worst under heavy user load. We tested with 6 simultaneous users and all 6 are done at the same time no matter the size of the report. Even the one that fail with an error message came up at the exact same time.
Are there anyway we can adjust the IIS pools and or Crystal Ras to support additional threads?  We are connecting to Windows 2008 SQL Server EE. Any suggestions and or help is appreciated. I cannot find any references that would help us diagnose this further.
Also, if you can also detail the cost to buying a phone case, that would be helpful as well.
    Thanks
    -atiwat

Since you are not changing the version of RAS, I am not sure why the queuing would be different on different Operating Systems? You may want to check on how the queuing is setup on the WIN 200 server and duplicate that on the WIN 2003 server. Also, RAS has a limited number of licenses out of the box. Ensure that you are using the same license on both environments.
Re. phone support. You can obtain a phone case here:
    http://store.businessobjects.com/store/bobjamer/DisplayProductByTypePage&parentCategoryID=&categoryID=11522300
However, please note that support of version 9 products terminated years ago, so you will not be able to get support for your version. To get phone support, you will have to upgrade to a supported version of RAS (XI r2 at minimum).
    Ludek
BTW.; Windows 2008 SQL Server EE came way after RAS / CR 9 and has thus not been tested in this environment...

  • Oracle 9i 32 bit ON Windows 2003 server 32 bit

    Hi all
I have oracle 9i 32 bit istalled on HP server with windows 2003 server 32 bit, 8GB ram.
I am trying to increase oracle memory size (SGA + PGA),
but when I exceed 2GB for (SGA + PGA) it gives me error (ORA-27102 : out of memory)
Is it because the windows 32bit ?
    How to manage this issue?

The maximum amount of memory that can be allocated on a Windows Server 2003 is 4 Gb.
If you have Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition, it supports 32 GB of physical RAM and Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition supports 64 Gb by means of the Physical Address Extensions (PAE) feature.
You should declare the 3 Gb switch that is in the Boot.ini file with Microsoft Windows Server 2003 so it addresses more than 2Gb. So verify which windows 2003 server edition are you currently using.

  • The old allowing oracle 3GB virtual memory on windows 2003 server question?

    Hi all,
    I have a 9.2.0.7.0 database on windows 2003 server (32bit). 4 dual core cpu's and 16GB of Ram.
    I have set .use_indirect_data_buffers=TRUE and *._enable_NUMA_optimization=FALSE.
The db_block_buffers is set at 4GB.
    Shared_pool 200MB
    Large_pool 56MB
    Java pool 56MB
    PGA is currently at 400MB
AWE_WINDOW_MEMORY is set at 720MB (which is the lowest I can set it)
At the moment there are various jobs running on the database and no users logged on and the virtual memory is at 1.8GB.
The problem is as soon as the users logs onto the DB the virtual memory goes over 2GB and we see the error 'ORA-04030: out of process memory when trying to allocate 2416 bytes'.
Now I have edited the boot.ini with the following parameters:
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="UBS WSP - Wintel Server Platform with PAE" /fastdetect /PAE /4GT
because the /3GB parameter switch started the server with lots of errors.
The oracle.exe process still seems unable to go over the 2GB limit with getting 'ORA-04030' errors.
Can someone tell me if I have missed anything? Or a reason why oracle is not using the switch?
    TIA
    Eddy

    Satish,
see metalink Note:1036312.6 : Utilizing Up to 3GB Virtual Memory on Windows.
    it says :
"The 32-bit versions of the Windows® 2000 Advanced Server and Windows NT Server 4.0, Enterprise Edition, operating systems were the first versions of Windows to provide applications with a 3-GB flat virtual address space, with the kernel and executive components using only 1 GB. In response to customer requests, Microsoft has expanded the availability of this support to the 32-bit version of Windows XP Professional and all 32-bit versions of Windows Server™ 2003."
of course, we mustn't be mistaken with the AWE switch (/PAE) that is not available for standard edition.

    Hello,
There is a note in SAP that indicates that EMT64/x64 is not compatible with Oracle 9.2 (nota 12546) There is Oracle's FAQ that indicates Oracle's versions and Windows that he(she) supports EMT64.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/windows/faq.html#x86-64
Since you can see it(he,she) indicates that Oracle 9.2 is supported in Windows 32 bits with technology EMT64
And that alone the version 10g 2 be reread it(he,she) is compatible with Windows 2003 SEVER 64 bits with technology EMT64
I hope that this costs(suits) us to solve our problems

  • Windows 2003 server loses security tab for folders created in OS X

We have a centralised storage system that is running on a Windows 2003 cluster. This server has folders for each department so they can store colaborative work. They can create their own folders and files within their departments folder.
When files are created using a Mac on this service and then the folder properties are viewed under Windows XP or 2003 the security tab seems to be missing. NTFS permissions still exist on the folder as items beneath that are inherriting permissions still have those inheritted permissions applied to them, but the security tab has gone.
This can also mean that Windows users cannot see these folders and therefore the whole idea of a collaborative storage server is lost.
We have investigated this issue as best we can so far and tried copying folders onto the server with whitespace at the end of the folder name to see if this was the problem, it does not appear to cause the issue.
We have also tried copying folders up to the server from a mac using invalid characters \ / * ? " | were all tried, on the server the symbol is simply substituted with a space and the folder works correctly.
We have tried copying a folder with space at the end of its name and a file within to the server and this also works correctly.
The only common factor seems to be that a lot of the folders with a missing security tab have a single space at the end of the folder name, however this does not seem to cause the issue.
One way around the problem is to use the subinacl.exe tool at the command prompt as the server administrator to regain ownership of the folder and then delete it, however this is not a solution for folders that contain data. This workaround was from the microsoft article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320081 in step 6.
If anyone has any idea what may be causing this on the Mac side it would be good to know.

We have narrowed down the problem and found the culprit.
The issue is only repeatable on 10.4.x (we used 10.4.11 for testing, but it may affect earlier versions as well)
10.4.11 Local folder created with trailing space in the name, then copied to the Windows 2003 server = loss of security tab on this folder
10.4.11 existing folder on the server has a trailing space added to the folder name = loss of security tab on this folder
10.4.11 existing folder on the server has the trailing space REMOVED from the end of the folder name = security tab returns with permissions in tact
10.5.x Local folder created with trailing space in the name, then copied to the Windows 2003 server = no problem
10.5.x existing folder on the server has a trailing space added to the folder name = no problem
10.5.x existing folder (created under 10.4.11) with trailing space in the folder name has the space removed = Error code 43, unknown error occured
Also interesting is that the illegal characters for Windows \ / * : ? " | in the folder name prevent the folder being copied to the Windows 2003 server in 10.4.11, but are allowed in 10.5.x - all expect the : which is an illegal character in OS-X as well. None of these illegal characters cause issues on the Windows 2003 server as they are simply translated to a space.
The solution would be either as AJ mentioned to purchase Thursby AdmitMac or to upgrade all the users to 10.5.x (which I'm sure would make Apple happier!)

  • How to connect to Window 2003 server using "connect as"

How can I set up Lion to easily connect to specified shares in the windows 2003 server. I want to authenticate as a user other than the one I am logged into on my Macbook? I am setting this up for teachers in a school. The macbook may be used by multiple teachers. Best way (simplest) please.

    Hi
Let's pretend the Windows Server has an IP address of 10.10.10.254
Go Menu > Connect to Server > smb://10.10.10.254. When prompted enter the account credentials of a user (username and password) that exists on the Windows Server. Alternatively you could use cifs://10.10.10.254. Either one will do. Assuming no 'silliness' on the Windows Network Administrator's part the share should mount.
For ease of connectivity afterwards you could tick the 'remember password using keychain manager' box. Personally I find keychain manager more trouble than it's worth. However you deal with this as you see fit. If it's multiple users using the same workstation I would not enable the option.
Once mounted you can view the Server Share on the user's Desktop by enabling the option in the Finder. It should appear as a blue-ish drive icon on the Desktop. Add the icon in that User's Login Items in the Accounts Preferences Pane. Think of it a little like the Windows equivalent of "mapping a network drive".
Next time that user logs into their local account and provided the workstation is connected to the same network, the share point should mount.
You could also or alternatively drag the share icon to the right hand side of Dock. Click on it to re-connect to the share after you've disconnected from it.

  • Error=2 in jre1.6.0_07 when calling cmd /c -- Windows 2003 server 5.2

Must be very simple. Although, I do not where else to check.
A java application allows opening the OS shell and executing programs. For Windows
(without further details) a "cmd /c" prefix is recomended in the config file. None
    for Linux.
The application runs the shell from a path relative to its configurations file,
for which I have defined "../scripts".
Thus a .wsf script located at MyAppPath\scripts can be executed as "Cscript //NoLogo MyScript.wsf". It works OK under XP Profesional, Version 2002, Service Pack3, jre1.6.0_07, JAVA_HOME defined. The application log reports a proper application start up using Java VM 10.0b-23. and execute the shell as many times as called without any problem.
The applications works also fine for every aspect on Windows 2003 server 5.2, except for calling the os Shell. The following error is displayed:
Cannot run program "cmd /c Cscript //NoLogo Myscript.wsf" (in directory C:\MyAppPath\script"): CreateProcess error=2 the system can not find the file specified.
Of course, the file "Myscript.wsf" is there...
In both cases (XP and 2003), CompSpec is set to %SystemRoot%\system32\cmd.exe and PATHEXT inlcudes ".WSF".
Any help will be most appreciated.

I have no experience with cscript, but by typing cscript in a command prompt i get:
