Maximumn char limit for Ebz  instance naming ?

Hi ,
Can anyone tell me what is the max length for R12 instance name ?

Thanks Hussain.
From the note that you and helios send .It appears that database name can have 8 or more than 8 chars.
I think OID has limits for db_name more then 8 chars it doesn't recognize.
Does it mean for Rac , I can set db name 8 chars and instance name 9 chars ?
Looks like instance name can set upto 16 chars. Pls advise.

    b) .mov has a char limit
Either way its a disaster for my media handling, I'm quite verbose.

Hamper..don't hold your breath for a fix since 255 sounds horribly like a limit defined by the underlying architecture... Chances are that there is a single data byte that is used to tell iTunes just how many characters there are in the Comments field. As you may/may not know, one byte can only record a max of 255 characters.

  • Variant Length 45 char limit - Help

    Friends,
Iam developing a program to download all variants from current environment which are to be uploaded on other environment. Im using RS_VARIANT_CONTENTS FM. Problem is : when I Extract I get only 45 length limit for the variable value on the selection screen. This issue is with RSPARAMS structure which holds only upto 45 chars.
Is there any other way to download and upload variants other than above FM. Like  for downloading program we use READ REPORT....anything as such (internal commands) exists for variants too....???????
If any of you have faced this issue, please do pour in your valuable inputs.
    thanks

    Rob,
Seems you might be thinking that my requirement is little wierd......lemme explain you in detail.
We are moving from a Windows system to a Unix based as part of Upgrade. Because of this I have to change all the variants from
P06XXXX\VAROPT\ to /var/opt/ps1/ and we are expecting variant file path's to have more than 45 characters but when its changed to Unix path for sure max chars would be 43 (below our 45 limit).
My approach for this is :
    1) Use the code in OSS Note to download all variants from Windows box and upload in new Unix box (paths would still be
    P06XXXX\VAROPT\ ).
    2) Once all variants all loaded in their old format, I would now extract the selection screen strucutre (using FM), I could use FM to extract values also but again 45 char limit is haunting.
    3) Loop at the structure and IMPORT each variable. change variable content to Unix form and upload them using FM (RS_VARIANT_VALUE_CHANGE or similar).
Now my problem : I am not able to use IMPORT statement in a LOOP.
    i.e.
    LOOP AT OBJECTS.
      IMPORT objects-name TO T_VAR FROM DATABASE VARI(VA) ID ST_KEY.
    ENDLOOP.
    Please help with this....
    thanks

  • There is a maximun size for an instance?

    Hi,
I want to know if there is a maximun size for a instance and if it's possible to increase it? Because in my process the users need to atach really big files to each instance.
    Thanks in advance

Agree you can change the size of the instance in both Studio and Enterprise, but do so with caution.
Know you know this, but when you bump into the max instance size limit, you run the risk of hurting the Oracle BPM Engine's performance. This can be avoided in a couple ways. My preference would always be to go with the first option discussed below.
    Separated Instance Variable
Here's your first option. There are different categories of instance variables. Long story short - consider making the large object that you're storing as an instance variable a "Separated" instance variable.
As the name implies, it will then store this variable in a separate table from the other instance variables and will not be included in the max instance size calculation. This will have the pleasant side effect of keeping your instance size smaller and your engine performance higher.
Bump the Limit in the Engine Preferences
Here's your second option. In Studio (there's a similar setting in Enterprise) you can increase the default max instance size by right mouse clicking the project's name in the Project Navigator tab and click Engine Preferences. In the Engine category, click the Advanced tab on the right and you'll see a setting for Maximum Instance Size. Don't get carried away - bumping this up too high is a sure way to hurt your engine's performance. This would serve as a fix you could apply immediately in an emergency without having to change anything in any process.
    Use a Database
A third option would be to store large amounts of instance information in a separate database instead of as an instance variable. When needed, you'd just need to read it from the database only storing the primary key as the instance variable.
Sorry for the long winded answer. Know you know this, but hope it helps,
    Dan

  • Domain name for an instance

How do you configure an MSSQL instance as a domain name. Would like to have a connection associated with mssql.domainname.com instead of server/sqlexpress.
    Dave Keister Minerva Data Center

    Hi Dave,
From your description, you want to use the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) to connect to SQL Server.
For default instance, the format is computer_name.domain_name, for named instance, the format is
    computer_name.domain_name\instancename.
    You can
find computer name by typing hostname from command prompt. Below is an example for you.
    1. Use FQDN to connect a default instance.
    2. Use FQDN to connect a named instance.
Additionally, please note that when connecting to a remote SQL Server instance, we should configure SQL Server to allow remote connections with the following basic steps. For more details, please review this
    blog.
•Enable remote connections on the instance of SQL Server that you want to connect to from a remote computer.
•Turn on the SQL Server Browser service.
•Configure the firewall to allow network traffic that is related to SQL Server and to the SQL Server Browser service.
    Thanks,
    Lydia Zhang

  • Max limit for bulk insert.

    Hi friends,
We have 100 Million records in a table on production database. We are planning to move the data to test environment for performance tuning of the databse and queries.
We have created a DB Link between these DB's to transfer the data between the database.
We are planning to move the data in the following fashion:
    insert into tab1(.....)
    select * from tab1@prod_db_link;
do we have any limit for bulk insert?

    > We are planning to move the data to test environment for performance tuning of the databse and
    queries.
Flawed premise. What makes you think that the test environment will match the production with a 100% degree of accuracy!? - as that is what you need in order to
    a) identify the performance bottlenecks
    b) solve these
You are very much mistaken if you think you can identify actual performance issues happening on prod by mucking about on a test environment that just happens to have the same data volume.
Even data volume alone is meaningless as a copy of the data is logical - any potential issues with pctfree and pctused will not be reflected. Any potential hot spots on disk will not be reflected. The copy will not have the same number of segments and extents. Etc. Etc.
And this is just the data.. never mind numerous other issues ranging from actual hardware and operating system to Oracle instance configuration and production load and processing.

  • .mov comments tagging char limit??!!

Adding comments to .mov files in iTunes I notice that upon finishing the dialogue disappears as if everything is okay.. but its not as there seems to be a limit to the amount of characters one can use in the comments field.
The problem I have it that no notification is given to signify the cut off point, like a ticker with remaining chars left, or that the whole of the text written is not embedded. This is quite unsettling, can anybody please confirm if there is a limit.

I just received a reply from a metadata pro telling me that the mov format has no char restrictions for the comments field and it must be iTunes that is restricting the comments I can leave. Humf.
I emailed Apple about this, I think that comments should be infinite in size, I like a good story with my movies, that I shot. On the other hand (unlike the iPhone v2.0 software) he said that as mov is an Apple format that there would be no data corruption from tagging with iTunes :))

  • Theoretical Limit for Number of Websites on Leopard Server

    Tricky Ricky

At a minimum, you need to ensure that the SGA's for all the database instances are able to be loaded into the system's RAM. If you have 1 GB of RAM in a machine, and Windows and your other applications use, say 300 MB of that space, you would have 700 MB left for databases. If each database requires 200 MB of SGA, that limits you to 3 instances. You will also want to ensure that your PGA's are in RAM, which will further limit the number of instances. Assuming 70% SGA and 30% PGA, which is roughly what an average OLTP system would use, you would be limited to 2 instances on this machine.

  • Restrict core for each instance

can we restrict core for each instance while creating database

    can anyone help on this

There are actually two ways depending on the OS, database version and edition you are using:
With Linux and Solaris Oracle most recently announced (11.2.0.4) the support for cgroups (control groups on Linux with kernel >= 2.6.32) or resource pools (Solaris >= 11 SRU 4). From my perspective it is the best resource throtteling you can have for an Oracle database and it works with all Editions (Enterprise, Standard, Standard One). Further information can be found on my blog (www.carajandb.com/blogs) in both English an German.
The other mechanism it instance caging (available since 11.2.0.1) which uses the parameter cpu_count to limit the number of CPUs for a single instance. But this is available for Enterprise Edition only in combination with the resource manager.

  • Multiple Logical Systems in Partner Profile for one instance

Can we create multiple Logical Systems in Partner Profile (WE20) for one instance or one System?  If it is possible, can we create Logical System with respect to Plant/Country?

I am not quite sure if I understood your problem completley. But let's see...
Usually you use on on MSCS Cluster Group per SAP instance. So you have your already existing NW 7.0 ABAP stack in a separated Cluster Group, and you create a new Cluster Group for your new Java system.
You can find more information about it in this guide here on SDN:
    Link: [High Availability;
More information about High Availability Setups for SAP System can be found here on SDN:
    Link: [High Availability]
If you want to use the same database for your clustered ABAP stack and your new Java stack you can do a MCOD installation.
Please see Link: [SAP Note 388866 - Multiple Components on One Database - Installation|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/388866]
    Hope this helps.

  • Report parameters for pdf instance

    Hi,
is there a way to read the parameters from a pdf report instance? I already successfully retrieved the report parameters from a CrystalReport using the IReport.getReportParamters. Is there a similar way to do this for pdf instances or Excel instances?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Sebastian,
The InfoObject representing the scheduled instance to PDF should implement the IReportProcessingInfo interface, that defines the method to retrieve the params.  You should cast to IReportProcessingInfo.
    It's undocumented, but works.
