Posting Guidelines (copied from last month)
* DO NOT post full resolution screenshots!  You can use the "mogrify" command (pacman -S imagemagick) to make a thumbnail of your screenshot:
$ cp screenie.png thumb-screenie.png
$ mogrify -resize 20% thumb-screenie.png
Twenty percent of the original size is great for 1024x768 screenies.  You can then upload these images to your server and use the following code to show them on the forum:

* Several websites also offer free image hosting. Here are some that supports thumbnails:
ImageShack | xs.to | iPICTURE | Omploader | ImageHosting | Imagebam
Use the "Thumbnail for forums" link code that is supplied by the image hosting sites to post your thumbnail link.
* Once the new month begins please do not post new screenies in the old threads.
* If the screenshot has questionable material that might not be safe to view while at work or in a school setting, please post only a link and not a thumbnail, along with a mention of "Not Safe for Work". Posts that do not adhere to this are subject to deletion without notice at any time.
* Please try to include any links to your wallpaper or configs that you may have and/or the names of your icon theme, running apps, DE, etc. in the same post to reduce unnecessary clutter later.

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

The missing apps could have been done by setting the Restrictions that can hid those apps. If the backup was made with those retrictions set the the Restrictions are also restored.
Thus, if you get it to work restore to factory settings/new iPod, not from backup

• Blackberry Curve 8530 bought May 2010, 3 dead batteries later...now no apparent life on BB

Can anybody suggest anything or I'll just have to move on to another device.  My BB Curve 8530 bought in May 2010.  Batteries keep dying, phone gets extremely hot, then won't charge.  Nothing works.  Sprint would not make the phone good.  NOTHING happened to it, period.  It just overheated itself and wouldn't cool down.  Burned my fingertips getting the battery out.  At one point, did get another $70 battery (3 purchased since May), all drained.  What is going on with this?  Sprint could and would not fix it or replace my BB unless I wanted a "refurbished phone, and after paying almost $300 for this one, why would they "offer" a refurbished, garbage can phone?  I'm about at my wit's end trying to keep this phone.  Any ideas?  I've charged it, bought batteries, and now nothing.  Blank screen, cold.  Nothing in the service book helped.  It is like it isn't even there.  [Edited for privacy] if that is supposed to be the pin, it won't take it, either.  Any ideas?

Because that is the warranty replacement method you agree to at purchase of the device, and that is your service provider's policy.

• Matrox DualHead2Go DP Edition on MBP (May 2010) under Bootcamp Windows 7?

Will the Matrox DualHead2Go DP Edition be recognized and work under "Bootcamped" Windows 7 running on a Macbook Pro (May 2010)?
On a similar/related note, are there DisplayPort drivers for Windows 7 under Bootcamp to make the miniDP port to be recognized and work under it - even for something else, like the simple miniDP-to-DVI and miniDP-to-VGA adapters (if not for the DualHead2Go)?

Ok, I think this problem has been resolved, so I'll post the solution in case others with the Samsung Syncmaster 204B have the same problem. The answer was erasing the PRAM by holding Option-Command-P-R at boot up (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379).
This is what I think happened:
An update in Windows Update is available for the Syncmaster 204B, but wasn't visible when I first connected the Syncmaster. I wasn't able to see the update until I rebooted with the Syncmaster connected (after several crashes). After seeing the update in Windows Update under 'Optional Updates", called "Samsung - Display- 204T/204Ts/204B, Syncmaster Magic CX20Ts(digital)", I installed it, but bootcamp Windows continued to crash randomly after attaching the Syncmaster via both Mini Display Port-to-DVI and Mini Display Port-to-VGA. Sometimes it crashed after a few minutes, sometimes an hour, the same as before I installed the update.
I was convinced that it was a compatibility problem between Windows 7 x64, the Syncmaster 204B and the MacBook Pro 13" Mid-2010 hardware since this problem only happened when booting into bootcamp Windows 7 x64 (everything worked fine in Mac OS), but now that doesn't seem to be the case. I think the update fixed the problem, but after installing the update some of the of the original incompatible display settings remained resident in the Mac's PRAM. Erasing the PRAM cleared these settings and allowed the new updated settings to be loaded instead, fixing the crash issue.

• PXE broken by May 2010 HP4 Update

Hi,
After applying the ZDM7sp1ir4hp4 update from May 24 2010 the PXE boot would
fail with an error message saying that a function is not supported (or
something similar). Reverting to the prior files (dinic.sys, loadlin.dnx,
boot.dnx) resolved the error. The only file that actually seems to be
different in the HP4 update is dinic.sys since it has a different date/time
stamp (03/19/2010) from the prior version (8/30/2009). The file size's are
the same for all the files...so I don't know what is actually different if
anything.
Is anyone else seeing this or is it just us?
Cheers,
Ron

Ah ****...sorry to report that what I thought was fixed is not. But the good
news is that I have better data regarding what is broken...well I hope it is
better data.
So the problem is with the dinic.sys that ships with zdm7sp1ir4hp4; some of
our workstations will not successfully load the pxe boot environment. The
pxe agent (Intel pxe agent v1.3.24 running pxe v2.1 build 086 on an Intel
DQ965GF motherboard with onboard nic) will get an ip address but will fail
to load dinic.sys and menu components. After getting an ip address the error
message will flash in yellow text :
"The ZENWorks PXE Server may be outdated. something something function not
available...something... contact your administrator"
The bizarre part of this is that another system with the same motherboard,
same bios, same Intel pxe agent doesn't work. There are a couple of minor
differences in the two motherboards like Q6400 vs Q6600 cpu, but nothing
that I would expect to have any impact on pxe booting. Too strange for words
and very tough to resolve.
Back revving to the dinic.sys from the previous hotpatch fixes this issue.
Comparison of the two dinic.sys files:
Good :
MD5SUM 4b685e9f0cbb85af1fc292d08ac660e9
24114 bytes
August 30 11:40pm 2009
Bad :
MD5SUM 7fd20c75c0e7ffd7dfdd690e293d148e
24114 bytes
March 19 09:35pm 2010
Hopefully this helps track down the issue!
Cheers,
Ron

Evil never looked so good. It's a netbook. DWM, statuscolors patch, urxvt. I made the wallpaper with gimp (thanks to duckshaft for the idea from last month's hilarious post). I added the icons by modifying the terminus bold 14 font. I think the bold fonts look nice in the status bar. I got the icons from bohoomil and synorgy (Tamsyn2). I believe bohoomil got them from Lokaltog. I use a status script for displaying system info with help from jasonwryan, Procyon, seiichiro0185, and others. Everything is in my configs. You'll need to change your terminal font to this to view the glyphs and to paste them and then you can change back to your normal terminal font afterwards. I didn't rename the font, I just copied it back to /usr/share/fonts/local after I edited it. It's the ter-114b.pcf.gz font. You can get instructions here, https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=92895. The icons look a little small but it still looks ok I think.

• I've bought my iPad in may 2010, but I've not had the possibility to use it for personal reasons. last week I opened it and after switching it on I've realized that the screen is not working (I can see just half screen).whut can I do?

I went back to th shop and they want me to pay for a new one cos is no longer guarantee. It's umbelievable that a new iPad doesn't work and Apple doesn't give u back one standing the fact that is a production defect.
Whut can I do?

It may or may not be possible to verify the usage of such a technology device. And where did you get the idea that it costs $10 to manufacture and sell an iPad? I think the parts cost alone was $260, not counting manufacturing, shipping, storage, retail space, salespersons, helpdesk support, all the other overhead costs, etc. etc.
With so many people out there trying to scam the system, it will be an uphill battle to try to convince anyone that you bought it and didn't open the box for 14 months.  That's very unusual.
At some point, the store you bought something from (in this case it was Apple) has to say no.  What if it had been unopened for 2 years, or five years, or 20 years? This is what the warranty period is all about. It starts on the day you buy it and ends at the end of the warranty period, regardless of usage.
I am sympathetic to your plight but if you are able to get a new iPad (refurbished would be more likely), it will be through the kindness of Apple going above and beyond.  If you do not get one, it is not Apple's fault you waited this long and there is no requirement for them to replace it.

• Indiana University Terp10 Experience May 2010

On May 28th the Terp10 exam was held at Indiana University and for the second year straight we achieved a pass rate of 100%. We would like to thank Dr. Saputro for his time and effort in helping us achieve this goal.
Personal Experience:
The course leading up to the exam was intense and requires most if not all of your time outside of class. Although the class generally ran from 9am to 5pm you should expect to spend another 4-5 hours outside of class in order to review and retain the material. There is a lot of material to know and since there is no more partial credit, the use of memory techniques comes in handy. Paying attention to the instructor and his/her subtle hints will pay off in the end.
Tips for success:
1. Put aside any secondary low priority tasks (This will take up most of your time/life for the duration of the course)
2. Pay attention in class (Try not to get caught up doing other things while lecture is taking place)
3. Take notes and compare with others
4. Study individually and in groups
5. Make the experience fun (Don't just focus on how much you have to learn or do)
6. Create flash cards to help you study
7. Ask questions when necessary
8. Review your notes as much as possible
9. When taking the exam be sure to read the questions in their entirety (It is easy to assume and make a mistake)
10. Be sure to get rest (Especially the night before the exam)

From the get-go, our professor and TERP10 instructor did a good job in making sure we understand the difficulty of the new exam and the dedication it required. My main recommendation is for the duration of the TERP10 course, your life should revolve around SAP. After class, read the modules you discussed during the day, but you must absorb what you read; read to understand and apply it to your knowledge of the business processes. If something is not clear to you, ask questions to clarify. I also sat in the front of the class. I found that helped me stay focused during the long hours.
Everyone has their own study style, and knows what works best for them. If you truly dedicate yourself during the TERP10, you will succeed. At the very least, you will have learned a lot.
That how I went about preparing for the exam. I asked millions of questions. The result: 81%
I should mention that in the IU masters program, we had two SAP-based ERP courses which gave a boost of knowledge that helped during the TERP10.
Good luck!

Twenty percent of the original size is great for 1024x768 screenies.  You can then upload these images to your server and use the following code to show them on the forum:

This displays the thumbnail as a link to the screenie like this:
· If you do not have your own upload space you can upload to http://art.archlinux.org and link your shot here (with text) for discussion
· Several websites also offer free image hosting, of these  ImageShack is very popular and does a neat auto thumbnail:

You should use the "Thumbnail for forums (1)" link code that is supplied to post here
· Once the new month begins please do not post new screenies in the old threads.
· If the screenshot has questionable material that might not be safe to view while at work or in a school setting, please post only a link and not a thumbnail, along with a mention of "Not Safe for Work". Posts that do not adhere to this are subject to deletion without notice at any time.
