Evil never looked so good. It's a netbook. DWM, statuscolors patch, urxvt. I made the wallpaper with gimp (thanks to duckshaft for the idea from last month's hilarious post). I added the icons by modifying the terminus bold 14 font. I think the bold fonts look nice in the status bar. I got the icons from bohoomil and synorgy (Tamsyn2). I believe bohoomil got them from Lokaltog. I use a status script for displaying system info with help from jasonwryan, Procyon, seiichiro0185, and others. Everything is in my configs. You'll need to change your terminal font to this to view the glyphs and to paste them and then you can change back to your normal terminal font afterwards. I didn't rename the font, I just copied it back to /usr/share/fonts/local after I edited it. It's the ter-114b.pcf.gz font. You can get instructions here, https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=92895. The icons look a little small but it still looks ok I think.

my gen 1 ipad, my iphones, and my macbook pro all mirror flawlessly to both of my apple tvs. My imac, however doesn't, which is annoying. I know it needs to be mid-may 2011 (altho it's a refurb) and newer, so I ran my specs and got the following information (I have mountain lion, by the way, upgraded to newest version):

    Any thoughts?

of cause airplay mirror require the mac to be able to reencode the image into a video stream to send across the network to the appletv
it's a very demanding task to do and can only be don in real time by the newer macs where the video card support in hardware to do the encoding in realtime
people with older macs can try the program called airparrot which does the same thing but using the cpu rather then the gpu but the performance demands on the cpu is very high and can cause poor performance and delay on the appletv

  • I updated my macbook pro, received may 2011 and now iTunes, iPhoto, and keynote won't work. What should I do?

In May 2011, I received my macbook pro. I updated it a while ago. When I tried to open iTunes it wouldn't work, so I deleted it from my computer and downloaded it again. The same thing happened with iPhoto, but I couldn't find a download for it. And now Keynote isn't working...What should I do?

Here are some suggestions for getting the best results from this site.
Create a user profile that accurately reflects your version of the Mac OS, or include that information in your first message.
Give details of the problem. A statement such as "it doesn't work" conveys no information. If it did work, you wouldn't be here. Instead, you should post something like this: "I did A; I was expecting B; but I got C instead." Include the complete text of any error messages you saw and where you saw them: in an application window, a CrashReporter window, a log, or whatever. Also include the steps you’ve taken yourself, if any, to try to resolve the issue. If the problem is of recent origin, did you make any changes to your setup just before you first noticed it? Is the problem reproducible or intermittent? That is, does it always manifest itself when you take a certain action, or only at unpredictable times?
Before posting, ask yourself whether it’s likely that you are the the only person ever to have had this problem. If not, search the discussions for answered questions similar to yours. If you found any relevant information, but it didn't help, include details.
Post in the appropriate discussion area. Usually that means the area for the type of Mac you're using, if the problem is hardware-related, or for the Mac OS version you’re running, if it’s more software-related. Some other Apple technologies -- including iPhoto, iTunes, and Keynote -- have their own discussion areas.

I have an iMac purchased in May 2011.  OSX Lion 10.7.3.  I deleted backup file from the external hard drive which operates from Time Machine.
Now, the trash can will not empty some of the files deleted from the backup harddrive.
The trash contains-- File folder: "Core Services" which contains a locked file: "boot.efi".
    It will not delete.
How do I get the trash can empty of these files?

Yes, the Old Master file has a folder for each year where I find all photos from that specific year. I am attaching a screen shot of the file.
In the meantime i have managed to download all photos (it did not download any video files though in mpg, avi, 3gp, m4v,mp4 and mov format) to a new iphoto library. Unfortunately the photos are quite mixed and often doubled up. I ma considering to purchase iphoto library which checks all duplicates in iphoto. this will save me a lot of time. What do you think?

  • What is the best backup drive to use to backup a windows xp pc and to transfer that data to a new iMac i5 May 2011 and then to backup my iMac on it?

What is the best backup drive to use to backup my windows xp pc and to transfer these files to my iMac i5 new in May 2011 and then to backup my i5 iMac?

Get something with both USB and Firewire connections, as big as you can afford.  Format it Fat 32, plug it into the XP machine with USB, drag and drop the files you want to keep, plug it into the iMac with Firewire, drag and drop again.  If you want to use it just to back up your Mac in future, reformat it Mac OS Extended and enable Time Machine.  If you're likely to want to share the drive with Windows PCs in future, leave it Fat 32.

  • IMac DVD drive issues (May 2011 Thunderbolt models)?

I'm going nuts. I picked this machine back up three hours ago from the Apple Store, where they replaced my Optiarc DVD drive on my 27" iMac with a new one (and also the cable).
I'm having the same danged problem. So either there's a rash of bad Optiarc drives out there, or the Apple Store didn't do crap.
Without going into all of the headaches, these are the disk CRC-32's from the "iMac Mac OS X Install DVD" that came with the machine:
    On this machine:             $193BD913
    On the "good" machine:  $85FBE37B
Image made on good:     $85FBE37B (i.e., I made a read-only disk image on the "good" machine of this disk)
Image made on this:       "unable to verify" (twice)
Can somerun please run a CRC32 checksum for me on their May 2011 Thunderbolt iMac DVD and confirm the correct checksum?
I've tried similar DVD's with similar results.
I'm confident I don't have a software conflict, because that's just illogical, and also this machine won't install from the DVD onto a fresh drive (in fact I had to make a USB key on the "good" machine to get this machine to work).
Finally, is there a software method of determining the serial number of the Optiarc drive? System Profiler doesn't show it, and I want to make danged sure that they replace it next time.
    Thanks!

No one can run a checksum for me in Disk Utility? Please?

  • Is it possible to sort folders by date that is written in the folders name? eg. folders are named 26 May 2011 and so on

    Hi,
Question as in the topic: Is it possible to sort folders by date that is written in the folders name? eg. folders are named 26 May 2011 and so on
    Thanks
    Karol

I sort mine 5.1.11, 5.2.11, etc. - that works (adding letters to the numerals does not work as well). Starting with the month will also work better because there are only 12 of them (rather than a repetition of days).

  • Is there a second internal HD bay in a May 2011 iMac?

I just bought a refurb May 2011 27" iMac. I currently am using a G5 with two internal hard drives. I'd like to take one out of the G5 and install it in the new iMac, along with the current iMac internal. Is that possible (is there a second bay?)?
If not, does anyone know a reliable Firewire enclosure and I'll use it as an external.
    Thanks!

No, although some have removed the optical drive and used that connection.

    I use Macally ones.

when trying to empty the trash on my May 2011 iMac 27 inch OS 10.7.3 I get error code -50. Any suggestions?

Reboot and try again. If that fails, back up all data, then boot from your recovery partition (command-R at startup), launch Disk Utility, select your startup volume, and run Repair Disk (not Repair Permissions.) If any problems are found, repeat. Then reboot as usual.

  • IMac May 2011 won't automatically boot

I have a problem that is driving me crazy. I have a 27" iMac (May 2011 model) which is factory  fitted as standard with a 256gb SSD boot disc and a 2Tb hard drive. When I start up the machine from cold or reset the operating system starts with the familiar grey screen, apple logo and a spinning animated clock. It continues in this mode until I hear the internal hard drive spin down and then  only finishes booting into the operating system once the hard drive starts spinning up again. After that, all functions as normal. The iMac used to start up in about 15 seconds directly from the SSD but now takes well over a minute while it goes through the hard drive spinning down and starting up routine.
What could possibly be wrong and how do I fix this consistent problem.

    Try:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your SSD entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Repeat the disk and permissions repair on the HDD.
When you reboot the computer do so in Safe Mode then restart normally. The first startup will be slow, but the second one should be faster if all is OK.

  • HT4534 I installed facetime on my computer in May 2011. It worked great at first, but now the volume goes out when I am on calls. What can I do to stop this from happening? Its not my speakers,I have used Skype and Google+ and the volume never goes out.

The volume on my facetime goes out very frequently. I can hear the person just fine, but they can not hear me. I have checked my app store to see if there have been any updates to the version of facetime that I bought in May 2011 and it's not. Is there anything that I can do to fix this problem?
By the way it is not my speakers. I have used Google+ and Skype, and they both work just fine and the volume does not go out.

Thanks, it seems that it doesn't like to play games, which is a bit of a bummer as i bought this specifically because it was capable of doing that.  To be fair, it is capable... I just need to get used to a sound like sitting by a washing machine on spin cycle...  Wish they would make people aware of this in the Apple Store, its very misleading and not at all desireable.

  • MBP 13 " may 2011

    Hello Guys ,
I had purchased a MacBook Pro 13" in the end of May 2011 , i have been trying to use each and every application from the day i bought . This is the first Mac that i had ever bought so so eager to learn it as Windows Operating System . There is a lot support to Windows OS in learning it when compared to a Mac OS . So are there any books that give some information ( description ) of this Mac OS that could learn and start playing it ?
Thank You Guys for reading this Discussion ..
