May I run with iPod Photo?

Im scared if I run with it, the HDD will go nuts

You may.
Sorry, to be honest it isn't the greatest idea, but I did it for six months and it was alright, it is not recommended and it will cause failure sooner rather than later. Luck is involved

  • Coverflow with ipod photo

Hi, i'm running iTunes 7 and am happy with coverflow, but am wondering why the option for this and artwork list view are greyed-out with my ipod?
Due to my tiny ibook drive I keep most of my music on my pod so obviously would like to use this feature with it.
    All answers are much appreciated
I'm running iTunes7 on OSX 10.3.9 with an ipod photo (60gb)

I've got the same problem and I'm using the new 80 gig iPod. I think Apple is trying to force you to sync, rather than letting you keep everything on the iPod. It seems like CoverFlow is only available for the iTunes Library on your computer.

  • Does ipod nano work with ipod photo dock, s-video out?

Does the ipod nano work with the ipod photo dock, with an s-video out? Will apple make one for the nano specifically?

The iPod nano cannot show photos on an external device, I suspect Apple have not built this feature into the hardware. The options for showing to a TV are not in the photo menus either.

  • Impossible problem with iPod Photo

    Ok, so here's the kick:
I joined this forum because I cannot find a solution to this problem whatsoever. I have an iPod Photo that has been sitting in a drawer for about 2 years. I just got a new car stereo and I wanted to fix my old iPod instead of buying a new one. Besides, all I want is the music playback. The original problem with the iPod was the hard drive. It made the usual "clicking" noise everyone has heard at least once, so my first goal was to change the hard drive. I ordered a 30GB Toshiba Drive that fits exactly for my iPod. Actually, it upgraded it's old 20GB one without occupying any additional space. While I was at it, I also ordered a new battery, since I was pretty sure 2 years ago the battery already had problems, and it couldn't have gone better with the years.
So, first package arrives: Hard Drive.
I replaced the hard drive and connected the iPod to my computer. Yay! No more noises! But, for some reason, the iPod cannot connect to my computer. Here's what happens:
    I connect the iPod
    iPod turns on
    Apple Logo appears
Exclamation Folder or Sad iPod icon appears (normal, since I just changed the hard drive and there are no iPod Software files)
After a few mins, the "Do not disconnect" message appears, and my computer starts to connect with the iPod
Not even 30 seconds later, the iPod completly restarts. The screens flashes off like it ran out of battery.
So, I though, maybe it was the battery. So, 2nd package arrives: Battery.
I changed the battery and I'm still having the same problem. Here are some steps I've taken:
    1. Put iPod in Disk Mode and connect: Computer doesn't recognizes it, iPod restarts after 45 secs approx
    2. Charge iPod: iPod wont charge in any outlet. It will just try to start and, since it will fail due to the lack of software, it will just turn off. I tried putting the iPod in Disk Mode and then charging it, and it did work. I left it charging for about 30 mins and retried connecting it, and I had the same problem/results
    3. Put old Hard Drive back: just for the heck of it
I sincerely have NO IDEA of what to do, and I haven't been able to find any help on Google nor any other forum.
Does someone, ANYONE, has a suggestion?
    Thanks in advance!

I, too, have this exact same problem after trying to use my daughter's IPod Photo 30GB that she abandoned about 2yrs ago. I've replaced the battery but this does not make any difference. I managed to get it into Disk Mode but when I try to restore it on the pc, it cannot see it. I also tried someone's suggestion of using a Mac but it made no difference.
Someone also suggested rebooting the hard drive using the reset button inside. However, have opened the IPod up and can't see a reset button anywhere on the hard drive. Have seen photos of hard drives in other IPods and it is really easy to find!
All I want to do is restore the IPod, there must be someone out there who can help. PLEASE?!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Photo folder / album on phone and pc dissapeared? replaced with ipod photo cache folder? how do i get those photo's back?

The ipod is not a backup/storage device.
You need to copy everything from your old computer to your new one.
The Apple store will do this for you,  you can call apple support and they will help you, you can use google.

  • Running with iPod?

I have a 4g iPod and I am training for a marathon. Can I run with my iPod, or is it not shock resistant. Does it matter if its in a case on my arm, in my pocket or in my hand?
    Thanks

I strongly urge runners and others who exercise
vigorously to not use anything but a RAM based
mp3 player like the shuffle or Nano. Hard drives are
less prone to damage from movement than they were 10
years ago but they are still fragile. Even a smooth
runner might stumble, run into someone, or drop the
iPod which could be enough to damage the platter.
If I was to run with it in a protective case, would that be okay, or is the shock the main problem?

  • Running with ipod classic

Is the iPod classic safe for running? will it ruin the iPod?
    thanks

Well, I used to run with my first gen 5 gig iPod and it still works. However, I would still be inclined to say that if you run a lot with a hard drive based iPod, you stand a +very good chance+ of shortening it's life span. I'd recommend getting a Shuffle for running or a Nano if your budget extends that far. I opted to go with the Nano and the Nike+ Sport Kit and am very happy.

  • Running with iPod Touch

Can anyone recommend an armband. I have been running with a Belkin Neopren armband, wich turns out destroyed my Touch (waterdamaged), because my body heat created condensations in the armband. Now a repair is not covered by guarantee and there for cost 300 USD!
But I love using Nike+ and would be sorry to give it up

Near the upper right of the webpage that lists the discussion in the iPod touch forum there is a light-gray boxed area with Actions and Notifications in large type. Under Actions they a a link titled "Start a Discussion" . Click on that to start a new post.

  • Running WIth Ipod Nano

I have had my iPod for a while now and i have been hesitant to run with it because i have heard it would mess it up. If anybody has any advice about this please reply.
    iPod Nano   Windows XP

Running is just fine with all iPods.
If you go to the Apple Store" and look on the left side under iPod -> Cases, you will see a bunch of armbands designed to carry the iPod while running, exercizing, etc.
iPods are 20-25 minutes skip free. The memory buffer is 32MB, then the hard drive spins up to reload the buffer.
Since the Nano doesn't have a disk drive, it was probably a glitch when it loaded the song.
If it keeps up, try a reset.

  • Running with iPod: Is it okay?

The main reason I got an iPod was so I could go jogging with it. I recently got a new ipod video, and have now heard that it might not be a good idea to go jogging with it. Is it okay to run with an iPod as long as I use an armband?

Sorry, I was a bit lazy when I posted that. Just found the "Search Discussions" feature and found that many other have had the same question.

  • AppleTV interacting with iPod Photo Sync..

Ever since I started syncing an AppleTV with the same iTunes that I've always synced my iPod with video with, every time I sync the iPod now it re-optimizes the photos. It never re-optimized my photos between syncs when only the iPod was involved. Now that I'm syncing an AppleTV it does it every iPod sync and it takes FOREVER! Any way to stop the incessant iPod photo re-optimization?
    G4 FW800 1.25Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

i can sync the photos as long as there is more than 50 MB of empty space on my (2 GB) iPod. once i add songs enough to have less than 50 MB, it says there is not enough disk space, so none of my photos have been synced.
This has been discussed here before on several occasions.
It seems that there is a certain amount of free space needed on the iPod in order to sync photos, as you have found. Once this free space reaches a certain limit, no more photos can be synced. This applies even if the photos to be synced take up a smaller amount of space than the iPod has left.
As far as I know, there is no way around this.

  • M4p with iPod Photo

I bought Brazilian Girls' video album "LIVE IN NYC." that includes 5 m4v Quicktime movies and 5 m4p audio files. Both movies and audios can be played with iTunes 6 (iBook G4 1.42GHz, Mac OS 10.4.2), but when I transfered the audio files to my iPod Photo 60G they cannot be played with the iPod. The songs are displayed in the song lists of my iPod. But when I tried to play the songs, each song finished in zero second and moved to the next. I believe iPod Photo is compatible with m4p files... Does anyone have the same issue?

I didn't try "the" AV cable (if you mean one from Apple).
I used a standard S-Video cable. Since it says "S-Video out" on the connector, I assume that this should also work.
The line out connector doesn't work either. When I dock the iPod, the sound still comes from the internal speaker and there's no signal from the line out.
The dock doesn't have an IR receiver (I think that's one of the main features of the universal dock).
All in all, it's not that tragic for me since I just wanted a dock for my iPod that allowed me to synchronize and charge it.
I would have never used the video- or audio-output anyway, I guess.
I tested it only out of curiosity.
BTW, the seller's name is icebeezx (the item id is 290283883750).
I guess you're safe when you look for the IR receiver in the pictures to make sure you get a Universal Dock - assuming the picture shows the actual item you get.

  • Trouble with ipod photo cache

Hi.  Another newbie question.  I have a a folder in my photos called ipod photo cache.  I can't figure out how to get rid of it.  I read that I have to go into itunes, go to my device, go to photos and uncheck a box that says photo sync or something like that, and the folder will go away.  I did that (i think) and the folder is still there.  Can anyone help me get rid of this folder?  I'm old school when it comes to my photos.  I like to manually drag them to the folders on my pc that I want them in.  Thanks for any help you can provide.

Take it to the iPod store. They're not going to give you a nano - they're going to fix or replace yours - unless of course, they decide it's not under warranty because you don't have a receipt?
