May need to change shortname

I have a small problem that I hope someone can help me fix. I have cross posted this in the mail services forum as that is the service that I have the 'user' problem with.
Some time back I made a mistake and deleted a user using WM. This user had mail services. I had a backup of the mail folders using the mailbfr tool set. Lucky for me this backup ran just before i deleted the user.
Now this is what I did next.
I added the user again with WM withing a few mins - however I did not spell the name correctly and so I ended up with a shortname that is not correct. I added a second sort name ([email protected]) and so the mail now works in that the user can log onto imap using the previous 'second' short name and e-mail is correctly processed. As you would expect the users email mailboxs are empty as the are seen as a new users by the mailserver (due to my spelling the name wrong).
So I have two mail boxes for this user - one old with correct spelling, one new with incorrect spelling. From the outside world it all looks OK... but the user cannot access the old e-mails and over time one will get into trouble with this user haveing the wrong name.
I would like to find a way of correcting the users 'primary' shortname and combining the old and new emails together into the correct email account.
Help - how do I do this? It seems I need to fix two things - change the shortname internally in the server somehow and combine the e-mails into one account.
I could very easly delete the wrong account and create a new one with the correct spelling. But I would need to preserver the new emails that have come in since and move them into the old email account (which I assume will work Ok with the new user).

Goto System Preferences >> Accounts
Click the padlock and authenticate.
Then right (NB: on a one button mouse, this is control-click) click any user...
Then choose "Advanced Options" from the popup menu...
From here you can modify your home directory's location and edit your short name
However there is a warning:
Changing these settings might damage this account so that you cannot log in using this account. You must restart your computer to use changes to these settings.

When you change your "Short Name", you MUST also change your "Home Directory"'s location to match. EX: If i change my short name to "josh", I must change my Home Directory to /Users/josh.

Need to change shortname

I know this has been posted before, so I apologize for the repeat question. I wanted to ask myself so that I could clarify my personal situation.
My iMac is my home computer. It is not networked to any other computer. When setting it up for the first time, I did not realize that the shortname could not be changed, so I just let it choose the name for me. Now I'd like to change it. I have a lot of data on my current account that is tied to Quicken that I do not want to lose, and I am struggling with creating a new account and moving data and files to it. I've read the other suggestions about using the Advanced Options - how dangerous is it to use them when the computer isn't networked?

Do I need to change my outgoing mail server when I am in Bangkok rather than Canada?

You may need to change the configuration of Mail to have the SMTP (outgoing) mail server provide authentication. Many email ISPs will not allow remote use of their servers without authentication. Check with your provider to find out what type of authentication they use. Start with Mail Preferences > Accounts > Account Information.
Select "Edit SMTP Server List" from the dropdown menu.
Select your server then:
And configure the Advanced setion.

Texting from my iPad shows my wife as the sender. Need to change identity somehow. May be problem with iCloud recognition.

I've been sending texts via iMessage from my new iPad. It is set up to send from my mobile phone number as the sender. When I send a message (even to myself) it shows my wife as the sender. When sent to myself it shows my picture as the recipient. I've checked under the messages setting and it only shows my data and phone number. However under the setting menu under contact heading the " my info" has my wife's name ( on all our devices including both iPhones, iPad, iMac, etc). Even when I log into iCloud it comes up my name but shows her picture. That is why I'm wondering if the problem is with our iCloud account. I've checked into it and only my data is included on it. W do share all our contacts via iCloud for all our devices. I cannot figure out what or how to change it so it shows me as the sender.

Firstly, you need to change your details with Apple, Start here, change your country if necessary and go to manage your account. You may have already done this.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
Providing you are simply updating your existing details and not changing to another account, when you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your computer, you need to sign out of the account from your computer first, then sign back in using your updated details. (System Preferences > iCloud, click the sign out button)
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iTunes account on your iOS device, you need to sign out from your iOS device first, then sign back in using your updated details. (Settings > iTunes & App store, scroll down and tap your ID)
If you are using iMessages or FaceTime, you will also need to log out and into your ID there too.

I have set a bleed area that may need changing - how?

Hi. Hope this is not too confusing - My book will finish at 210x257mm.
Printer stipulated 1 page - 216x263mm including 3mm bleeding four sides.
2 pages together, 426x263mm including bleeding
New at this, I have a red, black and pink line. Is the Pink line the cut off line. (not sure what the red line is)
I have extended my bleed photos to the black line - the part from there to the pink line will be the cutoff ?
From the outside blackline to inside black line the measurement is 216mm. Top black to bottom black line 263mm.
"2 pages together , 426 x263mm including bleeding" - mine over the 2 pages outside black line to outside black line at present is 432mm x 263mm - I assume that maybe 2 x 3mm bleed in centre? (i.e. pink to pink line = 6mm)
Bit confused here because Printer says 3mm bleeding four sides which includes the centre for 1 page which I have set up

In document setup you should have facing pages checked, and the page dimension should be 210 mm wide and 257 mm high. In the bleed setup fields enter 3mm for all (but see InDesignSecrets » Blog Archive » Breaking Pages Apart to Bleed Off a Spine) if you have any artwork that dies into the spine (crossovers will be fine as-is). The bleed at the spine on a facing pages spread (unless it is split apart) is the edge of the opposite page.
This should give you a red line around the outside tha is the bleed boundary, a black line that is the page boundary, and a magenta (or pinkish) line inside the page that is the margins you've set, which you didn't specify so I can't tell you what to enter.

I need to change the MAC Address for Airport on MacBook

I have a specific need to change my son's Airport MAC address as his school requires the use of USB network cards that aren't compatible with MACs. These cards are needed because the school's router uses MAC address filtering.
Before we upgraded his Mac to Snow Leopard, we were able to change the MAC address to the MAC address of the useless dongal the school supplied. We basically created an AppleScript program that ran the "sudo ifconfig en1 ether xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx" and all was good.
This command no longer works for changing the MAC address. We tried it as root user as well and by typing it into the terminal window as root. After running the command, we can run "ifconfig en1" and it does display the new mac address but when we turn the airport on and try to connect, it just hangs and won't connect.
Our other non-Snow Leopard still works fine after running the commands so I'm guessing Apple disabled this functionality. It's hardly a security issue by being able to change your mac addres.
Is there a new way to accomplish this? I've searched everywhere.

Would an easier solution be to provide the school's IT admin with your mac address and have it added? If they can add a block of mac addresses for the usb dongles, they can add more for machines that cannot use the dongle.
Also: "It's hardly a security issue by being able to change your mac address."
While it may not be a security issue for your machine, it is a security for the school network who is using mac address filtering as hopefully only one part of their wireless security.

Need to change sales tax from point of sale to point of delivery

Hi all,
Recently the tax laws were changed such that sales tax is to be collected based on where the product will be delivered to (rather then where the product was sold from).
Briefly we are an agency with mulitiple divisions, and within those divisions several sales offices. Previously, a sales would be made from the sales office, and based on the tax rate for that division and sales office (county/city) the sales tax would be calculated.
Now we need to shift that so that a sales can still be made from a division/sales office, but the collected tax is based on where the product will be delivered to.
I'm sure there is a way to set this up, but I'm at a loss as to where to start.
One of teh options the customer suggested was to have a sales area set up with all the cities and tax codes in it. Then assign that sales area to each of the sales offices. Is this possible? Or do you have to have a separate sales area for each sales office?
I'm open to any suggestions you may have as I'm not very familiar with this side of SAP (sales distription and taxes).

Thanks Bill. As it turns out, we are in the US where jurisdiction is an option I guess so this procedure may not be needed. As I dig further it appears we are currently setup to use TAXUS procedure which utilizes tax codes - a limited number. But since the recent change, we may need to switch to TAXUSJ.
Does this ring a bell for anyone? If it is what we need to do, what need I be aware of that will change in the rest of the system?

A JPG won't allow you to actually change the text, but you could blank it out & paste over it I suppose.
Photoshop would only allow you to paste over it, not edit the text I think, but that may be your only option since whoever made it may have restricted editing rights.

If you mean that Find My Phone is asking for a password to a different Apple ID to your current Apple IDand that ID is a previous version of your current ID, not an entirely different one.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7, or if you restore from a previous back up made before you changed your details and some other circumstances.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID using your current password, you don’t need access to this address if it’s previously been used with your Apple ID, once you have saved these details enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone" and delete the account from your device. It may take a short while to remove the account.
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, save it once again and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

To change the iCloud ID ("email address") you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iDevice, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use. When you do this you may find that the password for your old ID isn't accepted. If this should happen, and if your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, you need to temporarily recreate your old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll. When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Ever since I downloaded the version 6.0, my youtube video's and other video's won't play and are halted. Is their a setting I need to change now ?

When going to youtube.com in it's own tab, every video comes on to play for a few seconds and is halted with no way to play the entire video again. I can watch a youtube video in facebook but it too is kept from streaming smoothly. When editing my photos and video's offline for my camera. The software performs flawlessly on my computer as always. I run Norton 360 premium edition. no bells or whistles. I run the add on for you tube as i always have from firefox. Is there some setting i need to change now with this version 6.0? 5.0 worked fine also. When I watch a video I uploaded to weather.com now, I get flawless audio without the video to see. My 4GB Ram is peaking out running firefox now. Not sure if having many tabs left open is affecting the performance and the videos. it did not do so with 5.0 as it does with 6.0. Thanks
