"May require ... Raw plug-in version 7.0"

When I choose "Edit in" going to Photoshop CS5 I get a message saying "This version of Lightroom may require the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in version 7.0 for full compatibility. Please update the Camera Raw plug-in using the updates tool available in the Photoshop Help Menu."
This is very strange since the latest version of Adobe Camera Raw available as a legitimate plug-in is ACR 6.6. ACR 6.7, a version still not fully released, is now available and I have downloaded it and updated my PSCS5. But there is no ACR 7.0 available for download.
All that said, what I do is select "Render using Lightroom" to open the image in PS and it is just fine and opens with the edits I've done in LR4 still intact. Still, the message is a bit perplexing given what is available out there.

The raw convertor in LR4 is new and upgraded (with the new sliders and so on), ACR 6.6 is the older convertor.  Discussed in other threads, e.g. http://forums.adobe.com/thread/971327?tstart=60
To be on the safe side, choose "Render using Lightroom".  If you choose "Open anyway", then you'll get odd effects where some of the LR adjustments you've made won't work in Photoshop.  The disadvantage of "Render using Lightroom" is that it creates a TIF copy straight away, rather than only when you save the file on Photoshop.  ACR 6.7 (Release Candidate available) is supposed to fix some of the issues, but it's reported that it's not a complete fix.  I've not tried it - I never use Release Candidates or Betas on production work (only on copies of images).

If I click "Open Anyway" or "Render using Lightroom", I get the following message:
"Adobe Photoshop CS6 cannot be opened because of a problem.
Check with the developer to make sure Adobe Photoshop CS6 works with this version of OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and OS X."
Please tell me what to do so I can edit from Lightroom to Photoshop.

In Photoshop, if you choose Help - About Plug-in... - Camera Raw, does it say 8.6?
Seems to me there was some hiccup they found in the update process, which prompted this:
Camera Raw updates cannot be applied
I honestly don't know if the problem could apply to 8.6 as well, which is why I asked you to check to make very sure you really got it.

  • Error Message -may need to download Photoshop camera raw plug in version 7.3 for full compatibility

I have been working in Lightroom 4.3 for MAC. From there I open 2 files to edit in Photoshop as layers so I can add a layer mask to the bottom layer and use the paint brush tool to make certain areas of the image darker or lighter. I have been doing this with no problem and now it doesn't seem to work. I can see the brushes' strokes on the layer mask but can not see the results on the image.
I keep getting a message from Lightroom saying I may need to download Photoshop camera raw plug in version 7.3 for full compatibility whener I try to edit on Photohsop thru Lightroom, but I have already added this plug in and it asks for it. It happens with raw, jpegs and tiffs from my 1D Mark II or my 5D Mark III and with other people's camera. It used to work fine. Now it dosen't I feel like it is something so simple. Please help. This si crucial to my business.

The wording of the message about ACR 7.3 is a bit misleading: What it means is that ACR 7.3 is required for Photoshop. Lr 4.3 has got it.
Which version of Photoshop are you using?
I suspect it's not CS6 but a prior version. If it is a version prior to CS6 you cannot install ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) 7.3.
You may have downloaded it but you cannot install it. It doesn't install.
On the other hand Lr 4.3 is based on ACR 7.3. So you have an incompatibility of ACR versions: 7.3 in Lr 4.3 and an earlier-version-ACR in Photoshop.
With this situation Lr an dPhotoshop are not fully compatible, i.e. you cannot open images as layers. You can only open one image at a time, either by letting Lr 4.3 render the PSD (or TIFF) and sending it to Photoshop (by selecting <Render using Lightroom>), or you let Photoshop open the Raw file with its earlier version ACR (by selecting <Open Anyway>).
In this situation you have two choices: Either upgrade to CS6, or open images in Photoshop one at a time and vonvert to layers in Photoshop.

  • When are we getting the Camera Raw plug-in version 7?

When are we getting the Camera Raw plug-in version 7 to export from Lightroom 4 to Photoshop CS5?

well imo that is nick picking.. as i payed for the same ACR 7 functionality when i bought LR 4.
it´s just to annoy the customers enough to make them upgrade photoshop too.
you can twist and turn it .. in the end it is a great leverage for adobe to push people into buying a new photoshop version.
customer support is something different.. at least in my view.
imho ACR should come with LR. so no matter what PS version you have they will be compatible.
ACR is a plugin it should be possible from the technical viewpoint.  i work with way more complicated plugins in 3D max and when i buy one i normaly get different builds that work for the latest 3-4 program versions.
but as jeff schewe wrote in another thread, for adobe it is a lot of work with zero benefit (income).
they make AE compatible with 3D max. but to get full support between adobe products.....
. But then you're really talking about new ACR functionality, which you don't want to pay for.

    Help

I am six minutes into the video and while Jan is doing a great (terrific, actually) job of explaining things I already know, she has yet to explain the subject issue. So I am unsure what "at the beginning" means... is there a time-marker for the point you are referring to?
Anyway, I have Lightroom v5.5 and Photoshop CC 2014 installed on two machines -- a Win v8.0 Laptop and a Win v8.1 Desktop. Adobe Camera Raw (in Photoshop) is v8.5 on the Laptop and v8.2 on the Desktop. Therefore when I "edit in" in Photoshop on the Desktop I, too, get the OP's error message. When I use the "Update" option under the "Help" menu in Photoshop (on the Desktop), I am told that all the programs are "Up-to-date."
Does anyone know how to force an ACR update? In other words is there an "install" process somewhere?
Edit: Jan's explanation of the error message starts a the 31:50 mark. It does not, however, answer my question about updating Photoshop CC 2014.

  • LR may require PS Cam Raw plug-in v 8.5 for compatibility

I get the msg "this version of Lightroom may require the Photoshop camera raw plug-in version 8.5 for full compatibility"
I have updated ACR, LR and PS.  Removed older version of PS (Now at 2014 release, 20140508.r.58 x64) on macbook pro, OS X.
    How do I fix this?

    Hi Rich!
I had the same problem. I found this information from Adobe which helped me fix the problem:

  • Invoking Photoshop CS5 from Lightroom 4 asks for Camera Raw Plug-in 7.0

I have just downloaded and installed Adobe Lightroom 4.0. When I try to invoke "Photo / Edit in Photoshop CS 5.1" I get the warning "This version of Lightroom may require the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in version 7.0 for full compatibility. Please update the camera raw plug-in using the update tool available in the Photoshop help menu". However, the update function in Photoshop CS5.1 says that there are no updates available and searching adobe.com I can find no references to Camera Raw plug-in 7.0. What is one to do? Thanks.

No, the warning is not the issue.  As I've said, "supported cameras" are not the problem.
I do initial processing on my images, then using Lightroom CMD E push them to Photoshop for further editing.  The message says "7.0 may be required for full compatibility" should I ignore that warning and click "Open Anyway"  because there really aren't any compatibility issues?
LR 4 Develop module is much different than LR 3,  just as CS5 version of ACR is different than what I've seen in the CS6 beta.   My assumption is there would be compatibility issues - as the warning says - when using LR4's develop engine then passing it on to CS5.  I don't use ACR in Photoshop since I use Lightroom, I use Photoshop for detailed image editing in conjunction with the Nik Software selective tool run as a window within Photoshop.
So how about a clear answer:  Just click "Open Anyway" and everything will work great?  When I first work on an image in LR4, then further edit it in Photoshop CS5 with ACR 6.7 installed, Save and Close the image in Photoshop sending it back to Lightroom it will all work just like yesterday when I did all that in Lightroom 3 without any error messages?

  • Camera Raw Plug-in Question

First off, please excuse me if this is a stupid question.  I'm still learning my way around CS5 and Lightroom so please bear with me.  So when selecting any of the "Edit-In" options in Lightroom (as in Panorama, HDR in Photoshop etc) I get an error message that reads as follows:
"This version of Lightroom may require the Photoshop Camera Raw Plug-In version 6.4.1 for full compatibility"
However, everything is updated for Lightroom and CS5.  My Camera Raw version is 6.4.1.145.  I wasn't getting the error message before so I'm not sure what changed (I hadn't even closed the program when I started receiving the error message).
Do I just un-install and reinstall the Camera Raw Plug-In to fix?  Any suggestions or insights?  I appreciate any help.  Thanks in advance!

  • Camera Raw plug-in -- where is it?

Hi All, I tried to open a photo in Photoshop from Lightroom2, and got the alert "This version of Lightroom may require the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in version 5.3 for full compatability. Please update the camera raw plug-in using update tool available in Photoshop help menu."
I opened PS and completed the available updates but got the same alert message. How do I accomplish this update? Do I have to pay for it??
I am new to the wonderful world of Macintosh and it's somewhat frustrating at times.
    Thanks for any help.

What version are you using for Photoshop, CS2 supports ACR 3.6, CS3 supports ACR 4.6, CS4 supports ACR 5.3. The plugin is only applicable to Photoshop CSx.
Lightroom V2.3 is equivalent to ACR 5.3 and does not require any plugin.
What the message is telling you is that you need Photoshop CS4 with ACR 5.3 to be 100% compatible with Lightroom 2.3. (i.e. able to read the adjustments done in Lightroom)
Lightroom is a complete stand alone program  and does not realy require any version of Photoshop to be installed on your computer.

  • Camer Raw Plug-in Issue

When sending a photo from LR5 to CS5 I get a message saying this version of LR may required the photoshop camera raw plug-in version 8.2 for full compatibility.  I don't know what to do?

Photoshop CS5 uses ACR 6.x. You need Photoshop CS6 or later to have Camera Raw rendering compatibility, or render the image as Tiff when doing an Edit In > Photoshop CS5.

  • Updating Camera Raw plug-in for CS5.1

I have recently updated to Lightroom 5.7 on my PC and also use Phototshop CS5.1. When I use LR and then try to use the Edit in CS5.1 option I get the error message saying I should upgrade to Camera Raw plug-in version 8.7. I cannot find any way of doing this as Photoshop says the plug-in is already up to date. Help!

PS CS5 can only use up to ACR 6.x, its just not possible to upgrade to ACR 8.7.
If you are sending raw files from Lightroom 5 to PS CS5 for further editing when you see the mismatch warning choose "render using Lightroom" if you use the option "open anyway" the ACR version may not be able to process all your Lightroom edits.
The latest version of LR 5.7.1 is the equivalent of ACR 8.7.1

  • Camera Raw Plug in for Elements 11?

My Elements 11 is unable to open Nikon 7100 NEF (raw) files athat open correctly with Nikon View NX2.  Adobe download website doesn't contain Camera Raw fix after 2012 prior to 7100 introduction. How do I add correct plug-in?

What Camera Raw plug-in version is PSE11 using, now?  Use Help / About Plug-ins / Camera Raw to determine this.
The Nikon D7100 was first supported by the Camera Raw plug-in version 7.4 which should be compatible with PSE11.
You should be able to use Help / Updates in PSE11 to update to at least ACR 7.4, if not 8.something.
If you have at least ACR 7.4 in Elements and you cannot read any D7100 NEFs, then your NEF files are likely corrupted by using obsolete Nikon software (old Nikon Transfer or old View NX).
You can use the ut8ility on this site to fix this particular type of corruption:
    http://owl.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/fix_corrupted_nef.html
and you should avoid using Nikon software older than the newest Nikon camera you have or avoid it altogether.
