Maya 2009 French keyboard problem (MBP)

Hey everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone has any problems with (French in my case) keyboard shortcuts with Maya on a Macbookpro (early 2008).
Its just ****. I don't have access to the numerical keys (1,2,3,...), and it seems that I can't reassign those...
I've tried using the visual keyboard and even so, Maya doesn't seem to understand what key I'm hitting (like 6 for example, for texture view).
Has anyone with a foreign (French) keyboard encountered this problem?
The only workaround I found, is to switch to a Qwerty (US) keyboard, but even so, some keys are missing (or I can't find them). The tilde key being one of them. And even so, switching to QWERTY is kind of a hassle...
Help!

Sorry to bump this. Its really irritating...

  • Anyone NOT having Keyboard problems with newer MBP!

    After reading about all the keyboard problems on the newer MBPs, is there anyone NOT having keyboard lockups or dropping letter problems? Looking to purchase a MBP soon but after reading about the many keyboard problems I will probably postpone or decide to get a different machine.

    There might be a couple of things to try. You could borrow an external keyboard to use for a while--or even buy a cheap one used, and see if you still have problems or not. If you don't, there's likely a problem with the MBP keyboard itself.
    Also, if you have access to an Apple Store, you might be able to make an appointment with the genius bar and get a definite diagnosis. It may be possible to arrange to get in a replacement keyboard at the Apple Store and have them fix it while you wait. Don't know for sure if that would be possible, but it's worth asking. Same with an Apple authorized repair shop--it might be possible to get it fixed without having to send it off.
    Good luck!

  • 2009 Aluminum keyboard firmware update 1.0 keeps appearing

    I recently brought my 2009 Aluminum keyboard from home to work to use with my 15" MBP running 10.8.3 (MBP: 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB RAM).
    In the App Center there is listed an update for the keyboard, the 2009 Aluminum keyboard firmware update 1.0. I have installed this update at least twice, if
    not more, and it continues to reappear as an update. The keyboard works just fine with the MBP, no problems at all. Just curious as what may be the root cause, if known, and what to do about it, if anything other than ignoring the update.

    Download this update manually and install it > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL997 Then, that upgrader will appear in /Applications/Utilities, so open it, choose the keyboard and it will be upgraded to the latest version available for that keyboard

    I don't understand
    I someone in the same configuration could help me
    Thank you

    Alvanh - I had similar problems with a German keyboard. Try installing the script called Keyed Up. This will let you change shortcuts at will, and should allow you to find replacements on a French keyboard that work. It can be found here:

    Or are you on CC? This script might not work on CC...

  • [HELP] rc.conf configuration - English System, with French keyboard

    Hi
    I just finished the first part of the Arch installation.
    I'm a french user, and I want to do something different than the last installation
    I would use my system (TTY, Desktop environment in ENGLISH) but I want use my french keyboard (Azerty).
    Also, I have some files (music, movie) who contains special caracters like "é,ç,è" and I would be able to play theses files using VLC, Sonata...
    I've looked the wiki, and i'm curently configuring my rc.conf but I don't know what put in.
    LOCALE="en_US.utf8"
    HARDWARECLOCK="localtime"
    USEDIRECTISA="no"
    TIMEZONE="US/Eastern"
    KEYMAP="us"
    CONSOLEFONT=
    CONSOLEMAP=
    USECOLOR="yes"
    Can you help me ? Gives me the right thing to add my rc.conf please ?
    Does the lines CONSOLEFONT, LOCALE, & CONSOLEMAP depend on my keyboard configuration ?
    Also need help to configure the locale.gen file
    Sorry for my english, I don't speak english well :S

    I use the same setup, and I found the archlinux.fr wiki to be really helpful.
    I have those set in rc. conf :
    KEYMAP="fr-latin9"
    CONSOLEFONT="lat9w-16"
    Then just read through those two pages, they contain everything you need. Just skip the parts about setting the french locale and such.

  • Keyboard problem with Mac os 10.7 + FileVault to + login screen

    I have a problem with the login screen, the keyboard is recognized as a English keyboard but I have a french keyboard. The menu to change keyboard language is not displayed on login screen since 10.7.2.
    During the session the keyboard is French, it's only for the login screen.
    How can I fix this and switch my keyboard layout to French in login screen ?
    Thank you.

    How did you find out the keyboard layout changed to English? I had a similar problem with my first login after enabling FileVault, and now I think this might be a cause? I have a Spanish keyboard.

  • Keyboard problem with wmode transparent and firefox

    Hello,
    I came accross a very nasty bug in this configuration:
    FireFox+Windows+[Flex area using the wmode=transparent]
    If the flex area has a text input, then the keyboard mapping
    is stuck with a wrong keyboard mapping and some characters can
    simply not be entered. For instance, on a French keyboard, it is
    not possible to enter a @ character.
    This bug seems very old, here is a reduced situation dated
    from 2005 (!):
    <
    http://www.5etdemi.com/blog/archives/2005/06/firefox-wmodetransparent-is-completely-screwy -and-breaks-textfields/>
    Many other people talked about the problem since, for
    instance here:
    <
    http://blog.headlondon.com/archives/no-wmode-please-were-british/>
    My questions are:
    * does anyone know of a work-around for this (and yes we _do_
    need the transparent feature :-)
    * why has this nasty bug not being fixed since 2005 ? I
    posted a bug report today but it must have been done before.
    I do not know if this is a bug with Firefox or the Flash
    player but in all cases many Flex apps can be affected by this bug
    if they use the transparent feature.
    thanks in advance for the feedback,
    Matthieu.

  • How to use French keyboard with FCP English Shortcut

    Hi,
    I have a new MAC PRO and im using FCP, the shortcut wont work
    when my keyboard is French keyboard. I always need to change it back to english
    to be able to use them. Since im always writing in french, it became a pain to switch it 20-30 times per days
    On my last mac I didnt have that problem, I tried looking for some setting in FCP
    but I can't find any.
    Does anybody know how to make this work ?
    Thanks !

    Remapping is where you set keys on your keyboard to perform specific functions that aren't otherwise set to keys. Once you change your keyboard to French, you lose some of the pre-mapping capabilities. Go into Tools/Keyboard Viewer, and you can map from there. If it's confusing, look it up in the manual. It's clearly outlined for you.
    Bonne chance!

  • Mail Syntax on Yosemite French Keyboard

    Hi,
    Which is the right hyphen ?
    On Mavericks, i set Mail so that i could send emails from different accounts using keyboard shortcuts. And that worked fine.
    On Yosemite, the syntax has changed. My problem is I don't know how to type the corresponding dash with my French keyboard.
    Any suggestion?
    Note (in case the above mentioned isn't clear)
    I created my Mail KBSs the following way:
    1. System Preferences > keyboard > shortcuts > application's shortcuts > Mail
    2. I selected Mail and typed my name, a dash and my email address. For example, my name being Hercule Poirot, I typed:
    Hercule Poirot – [email protected] (with KBC: ctrl-alt-cmd-P)
    I tried all the dashes I could possibly find (even all those in "Edition > Special Characters"), but no success, the KBS I set for my different Mail accounts don't even show up in Mail when trying to compose an email. I've been trying for weeks, shut down Mail, shut down my computer and so forth.
    On the US keyboard, I've read "option-~" generates the right dash. But not on the AZERTY Fench one.

    Found the solution (myself eventually).
    Here it is in French, sorry.
    Pour appliquer le BON tiret:
    1. System Preferences > keyboard > shortcuts > application's shortcuts > Mail
    2. Juste AVANT de placer le tiret, basculer votre en clavier en "English (U.S.)"
    3. Pressez ALT-)  (ALT et Parenthèse fermée)
    4. Revenez au clavier français
    5. Ouvrez Mail et... YOU'RE GOOD TO GO , les raccourcis sont de retour.

  • Serious Keyboard problems on X301 with Windows 7

    Erratic behavior occurs when typing at normal speeds. The cursor will jump back/forth and up/down randomly.  Issue doesn't occur when typing very slow or when using a USB Keyboard (which I'm doing now cause this problem is driving me crazy).  I've searched the lenevo boards and came across a similar post from 2009  however the problem was fixed with a BIOS upgrade which I already did without any luck.  I'm on BIOS ver 3.10 - 1.05 and have installed all the latest drivers for the x301.  Help Please!

    Is the touchpad active?  If so, any chance you're brushing it?  I run into that problem on my external keyboard.

  • Maya 2009 locks up os x

    Hi,
    I have a huge problem with Maya 2009 locking up my system and I want to know if there is a way to hard force quit.
    Basically, when Maya 2009 feels like it, it will give me the spinning circle. I cannot access my dock. I cannot switch to finder. Nothing. So my question isn't a Maya question but rather a question of whether or not I can force quit the application without using the dock (because I cannot access the dock). It's forcing me to hard restart my system almost 2 to 3 times a day, maybe more (which can't be good).
    Thanks

    Command-Option-Esc will bring up the Force Quit dialog where you can select the offending application and terminate it. If you can't get the dialog to show, you can try Command-Option-Shift-Esc, which force quits the front-most application.
    Have you checked the Maya website to see if your specific setup meets their requirements? They can be pretty particular about the OS version and hardware.

  • Relacing keyboard in MBP 15" - how easy?

    Hi all, I am awaiting the arrival of my new MBP 15". I use both Russian and English. Buying MBP in Russia with the Russian keyboard carries an exorbitant surcharge, sometimes as high as $500 to $1,000, depending on the greed of Russian resellers. This is the reason I purchased it in the US from PowerMax (I live and work in the US).
    I saw a replacement Russian keyboard for MBP 15" model sold at one US site ($140), which claims that it is an original Apple part. Is it difficult for an average user to replace a keyboard in the latest MBP 15"? I am not afraid of opening a computer and I did a lot if improvements myself to my old G5 (which was recently replaced with newest Mac Pro), including replacement of fans, hard drives, memory, optical drive, etc.
    Or is it advisable to get keyboard replaced by an authorized Apple dealer of Apple store technician? Approximate cost?
    Any hints would be very much appreciated.

    Are you sure the keyboard you have seen is for the correct model, sercher? The one used in the Unibody MBPs is completely different from that in the early ones.
    Replacing it usually involves a complete change of the entire upper body, and even used English upper cases for the unibody models usually sell for around $300. I gather that it is possible to change the keyboard once the upper body has been removed, but this adds some further complexity.
    Even simply replacing the upper body is quite a tricky process by the looks of the instructions, and certainly harder than most work on G5's and the like. - see http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/Installing-MacBook-Pro-15-Inch-Unibody-2-53-G Hz-Mid-2009-Upper-Case/1587/1
    Have you thought about simply using a cover? see http://www.kbcovers.com/servlet/Detail?no=84 for example.
    Cheers

  • Keyboard problems/replacement interchangability

    Hi, Ive been having a problem with my laptop keyboard for the last year.  The letter E, and numbers 3,4,7,8,9, and 0 no longer work.  Im pretty sure it is because I spilled some water on it.  Anyway the computer model is dv2610ca, of the dv2500 product line.  it is calling for a replacement keyboard 448615-121 which is a french canadian keyboard and apparently is no longer availible.  I dont care if I have a french keyboard and I was wondering if I can replace is with a 448615-001 keyboard which is a US style and is still availible.  Any insight to this matter would be greatly appreciated.

    Try resetting your SMC and PRAM.

  • Migrated User Account Keyboard Problem AFTER Login

    I have a brand-new MacBookPro (with multi-touch trackpad) that came with Leopard preinstalled. When I first started up the new computer, I set up a new administrator user account first. Then I used Migration Assistant to migrate my primary user account from my PowerBook G4, which is running the latest version of Tiger. I can log into my old user account with the same password I have always used, and everything looks fine--my old desktop is there, my Mail, iCal and iTunes settings all look great, etc.--but I can't use the keyboard. I can use the mouse to click on menus; the keys for the volume and backlight controls work, and some of the keys on the right side of the keyboard work (which seems particularly weird), but I can't do anything else with the keyboard. When I log out of the account and try to go back to the new admin account, the keyboard no longer works at all until I reboot. If I go directly into the new admin account, the keyboard is fine; it only starts locking up AFTER I log into my old user account. I have not had any keyboard problems with any other user accounts that I have created from scratch on the MacBookPro, nor have I had problems with the other user accounts I migrated from the PowerBook. After consulting with an Apple rep on the phone, I have tried the following things:
    1. deleting my migrated keychain file on the problem user account and letting it make a new login keychain;
    2. deleting the original default keychain on the PowerBook and re-running the Migration Assistant;
    3. deleting the problem user on the MacBookPro using the option of creating a disk image, and then creating an empty file in the Users folder with the same name as the problem user account and then dragging the files from the disk image into the folder, and then creating a new version of the user account with the same name, password, etc.;
    4. running Disk Utility to fix permissions (multiple times);
    5. I have completely erased and reinstalled the system on the MacBookPro using the install DVDs twice. The first time, I ran Migration Assistant immediately after the "Welcome," and the second time I set up a new administrator account first and then ran Migration Assistant.
    6. I have also tried the steps outlined in this article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306840.
    7. I have tried moving my user files over by hand but then I have a ton of permission problems and I was having trouble getting my Mail settings/mailboxes to move over properly. I've spent hours and hours on this.
    I have NEVER had so much trouble upgrading to a new computer or a new OS in all the years I've owned Macs! What am I missing???

    Well...I'm not sure which of the following fixed my problem, but once I realized it was something to do with the numeric keypad keys, I went into both the Keyboard & Mouse preferences and the Universal Access preferences and I made sure that I set everything back to the default settings. I suspect that going to Keyboard&Mouse-->Keyboard Shortcuts and clicking on "Restore Defaults" is what did the trick. So far, so good. I hope this helps somebody else; I couldn't find anything else anywhere about this somewhat quirky problem.
