My second gen iPod is on its last legs and I am shopping for a new one.
I noticed that the 8GB nano and the 30GB iPod are both $299 at the Cnd Apple store. Three times the size for the same price. Am I missing something here?

I think it mostly depends on what you want to do with it. Are you a runner? Then you might want a Nano because it use a flash drive and supports the Nike+ iPod (yeah, I've forgotten the name) system for tracking workouts. And it's amazingly small for what it does.
If, however, you want to watch videos on your commute and want to carry a significant chunk of your music library, maybe the 30 gig is more what you're looking for. General wisdom is you shouldn't subject a hard drive based iPod to the repeated shock of running, though I did use my first gen for this and it's still working.

Maybe a dumb question, about which power connectors to use, but....

This may sound like an incredibly dumb question, but here goes anyway....
I upgraded my system a few weeks ago, and will be slapping in a new ATI X850 Pro AGP card in a few days. My current graphics card is a p.o.s. Radeon 9550, so it doesn't have its own power connector or even a fan. My PSU is a dual-rail Antec model, and I'm wondering if it should matter any about how many or which devices I have connected to each power cable set. My psu came with cables to attach, only 2 of the 4 though are the 4-pin molex - the other 2 are pci-e power connectors I believe. Should it make a difference which or how many devices I connect to each cable? For ease of plugging in, I believe my DVDRW and CDRom are using 1 cable, and my ide drive and floppy are using the other cable. Also, I have a pci fan and a case fan running off 1 or the other. I'm likely to jump the power cable for the video card off the one the hard drive is using, unless someone has some suggestion to offer to the contrary.
If it makes a difference, can anyone recommend how they would have them connect?
My list of devices to plug in would be:
1)IDE HDD
2)Floppy
3)CDRom
4)DVDRW
5)Case Fan
6)PCI Fan
7)Video Card

Well, I put the new card in and connected it on a cable with the optical drives. Also, I had unwittingly connected my cdrom on the same ide channel as my hdd , so I changed that so both optical drives are on the secondary ide.
So far, so good. 3dMark03 jumped up from 3300 with an overclocked Radeon 9550 to 10570 with the stock Radeon 850 Pro
I wish I could find some local source to purchase additional molex cords for my Antec SmartPower 2.0 psu, though - I've got 2 more 'outlets' just sitting there on the psu doing nothing, because the other cables are for pci-e, and I'm not using pci-e...... If I could buy some additional molex cables to plug in like the ones that came with it, I could have the vid card on its own cable....

If you select a mailbox, you should get an Edit button (easier to see in landscape mode). Clicking the button will provide you with check circles for the messages. You also get Delete and Move buttons at the bottom. Check the messages you want to move and then navigate to the mailbox you want to drop them into. I think as long as you can navigate to a mailbox you can move the messages to it.
In the Mac Mail application and probably Outlook on the Windows side, you also setup rules to move messages to specific mailboxes. If the mailboxes are stored on the server, then you can have the sorting done on the server and they should appear that way on the iPad. If your later messages do not show up, you may need to have the iPad app pulled down more messages until they are all showing.

Your email won't have the same confirmation number as it was ordered over the phone. You will need the last name used for the order, the location code (this ends in 01) and an order number (five to six digit number). Please keep us posted if you need further assistance with this.

Press "Command P" and when the Print dialogue box comes up, towards the bottom there is an option allowing you to choose the text size, i.e: small, med, large.

Might be a dumb question, but I am moving from 1st gen to iPadair; on Safari, 1st gen to delete apps/sites just visited, you could double tap home key and apps would appear on bottom and one could delete from there. How does it work on ipadair?

This may be a dumb question, but nonetheless, here goes:
I just moved from 1st gen ipad to new ipad-air. Great and happy! But, one thing I can't figure out how to do is to delete the pages/sites/apps that I have just used? For example, on the 1st gen. you could double-tap home button and past actions would come up on bottom of screen. I could then delete them one by one, to keep things cleaned up. Am I missing something here? Does it keep a log irregardless? Not the same as deleting history - at least didnt' work for me.

Close apps and not delete apps.
1. Double tap the home button to bring up the multi-tasking view
2. Swipe the app's windows upwards to close
3. The app will fly off the screen

This may seem like a dumb question, but once you have set up airplay from the ipad through the tv do you always need to have the internet on.

It's not necessary to have an internet connection in order to AirPlay content to the Apple TV unless the content is protected. You will however need to keep your wifi network turned on.

It's not a dumb question at all. Most people come to this site after they mess up their Mac. Don't install that junk, and you won't be coming here when you need to fix the problems it causes.
There will always be threats to your information security associated with using any Internet - connected communications tool:
You can mitigate those threats by following commonsense practices
Delegating that responsibility to software is an ineffective defense
Assuming that any product will protect you from those threats is a hazardous attitude that is likely to result in neglecting point #1 above.
OS X already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it that way with software updates from Apple.
A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
Never install any product that claims to "clean up", "speed up", "optimize", "boost" or "accelerate" your Mac; to "wash" it, "tune" it, or to make it "shiny". Those claims are absurd.Such products are very aggressively marketed. They are all scams.
Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources.
Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.

Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind.

ISight System Requirements (dumb question, but I'm confused)

Sorry to ask such a purchase-related question, but I'm entirely confused as to whether I can use iSight with my G4 Cube.
I'm running OS 10.4.3 and have iChat AV installed, but my processor speed is only 500 MHz.
The information on the actual iSight package is unclear. So, after I was disuaded from buying one at a retail store, I checked the site store. There, the system requirements read:
"Macintosh computer with a 600MHz or faster PowerPC G3 or any PowerPC G4 or G5 processor."
I understand this to mean that, for people with G3 PowerPCs, their processor speed must be at least 600 MHz. But any G4 or G5 processor should be adequate.
However, when I called Apple Customer Service, the representative insisted that this means, no matter what processor you have, its speed must be at least 600 MHz.
Can someone enlighten me?

Hello Jason. Different software applications that drive iSight can have different System Requirements.
There are a lot of choices of Applications You Can Use With iSight. Select the app that performs the function you want and then check its system requirements. Different applications have their own (and possibly different) requirements, so check carefully when considering other software.
The 600 MHZ requirement is the G3 processor speed minimum System Requirements for iChat AV 2.1. This particular 600 MHz speed requirement applies only to G3 Macs using iChat AV 2.1. ANY G4, including your Cube, can use iSight with iChat AV 2.1.
However, you are using iChat AV 3. Some of the System Requirements for iChat AV 3 are significantly higher than for version 2.1, but your G4 can still use iSight for one-to one iChat AV 3 video without PowerBoost.

This may seem like a dumb question, but

How do I keep my hard drive from filling up with junk? I just purchased a new 13" MBA with 256 GB. My old MBP eventually got bogged down with so many duplicate files and applications and just plain junk. I was never sure what could be safely deleted.
I guess my real question is how do I know what is safe to delete, which things are duplicates and can I delete a disk image after I install something? Also, how do I know if I've completely deleted an application that I no longer want (i.e. any hidden files or whatever). I want to keep my new MBA as clean as I can and not load up my hard drive space with anything unneccessary.

just be proactive about where everything is saved to and backup important things via external USB HD
Clear out itunes often of duplicate unwanted things, keep a folder or two on your desktop or otherwise to keep most of your working files.
If you drop an unwanted APP to the trash and delete same, its gone unless is a sys. modification application.
Keep your pictures in a known file or two. Same goes for documents, music, and videos.
frequently clear out your browswer of cookies, cache.
Buy a APP on the APP STORE that locates all duplicate files. It lets you choose to delete them or not.

I use GMAIL now... I check it from an iMac or an iPOD Touch using mail client. The reason I like GMAIL is b/c I have BlackBerry for work and the GMAIL Mobile website is formatted nice for the BlackBerry. Does mac.com have a option to optimize for wireless so I can use a BlackBerry to check it.

Uhm...maybe a dumb question...but

I am in the early stages of using (read clumsily learning!) QMaster et al...and the first "test" I sent for processing copied to my local drive for distribution (at least I think that's the reason for its duplication from the FireWire drive it started on). Now I have no room left on the start up volume, as it is carrying the excess 28gb of the file I sent to be worked on. How do I erase/clean off this file? I notice that it resides inside a "private" folder on my drive, but I do not seem to have access to it...more importantly if I did, I feel there is a better way to remove these unwanted files...I think something went wrong or esle why is this file still resident? Your cluster storage location is probably set to /var/spool/qmaster. /var is a link pointing /private/var. In a Finder window on your controller, do APPLE-SHIFT-G, and type in /var/spool/qmaster. You should see a directory with a bunch of letters and numbers. Go in there, then shared. You will probably see your file there. You should be able to see your temp files, and now you can delete them.
What you need to do is set your cluster storage location to a drive with lots of space. If you don't have an extra volume/drive on your controller machine, hook up a firewire drive or use another machine with more storage for the controller and set this machine to services only.

30G IPOD, really dumb question, but I need help.

I have a question, I need to put some files onto my IPOD, and with my old IPOD I just dragged the files onto the IPOD icon on the desktop, but now I don't that icon and not sure how to get files onto my IPOD. Help.
