Maybe a great training series, definitely a poor offline media player

I have a cell Internet connect and am limited in bandwidth.
I downloaded the Adobe Media Player and started downloading all of Day 1 content for off-
line viewing. After 4 hours of download (bad connection speed, which is why I wasn't streaming to begin with) I
went to start watching the videos.
Only 1 of the 14 videos for play offline, the others when clicked added themselves back to the download queue for another download.
When navigating back and forth from the home screen to the my fav's and then the download queue, the application would hang and twice locked up completely.
This has wasted half of my productive day and proven to be a buggy and poor product. It has also cost my almost half a gigabyte of download and completely lost the results.
so I am,
Drivencrazy99

Drivencrazy99,
Sorry you're having a bad playback experience in Adobe Media Player. Do you have the latest installed version? I found this help document in the support center for the product:
Poor audio and video performance on low bandwidth connections
http://go.adobe.com/kb/ts_kb403335_en-us
Adobe Media Player may be having trouble with your (admittedly) slower Internet conection. But once the FLVs are downloaded, they should remain in your cache and not need to be re-downloaded.
If you really want to go the manual route, I suggest pasting the feed URLs into your browser and clicking the link in the Media Files (shaded) area for each video. This will take you to the XML file that contains the link to the actual FLV. This is the same FLV that Adobe Media Player downloads, of course. There are a couple FLV paths; you want the one on the line immediately above the param name showing the course title (for example, the one above "Flex in a Week - Day 1"):
http://content.tv.adobe.com/adobetv2/EBD64298-1C23-D1F3-EF84B50223010B46.flv
Of course, Adobe Media Player is supposed to automate this process. You shouldn't have to go this route to view our FLVs offline.
Hope this helps.

  • Motion 4 training series' book : "Using simulation behaviors"

Motion 4 training series' book : page 198, "Using simulation behaviors", it is NOT working like it says in the book. After making the photos group a 3D object, I CANNOT select the rectangle tool. On which layer am I supposed to create a rectangle shape??? HELP!!

Ben - thanks for trying to help out on this. The World Cup games are over and I can't think of any more reasons to procrastinate. This has been giving me a fair amount of grief.
I'm very leery about doing the "Option+drag into Cog3" because of the difficulty in trying to "un-do". Un-do works sometimes but then sometimes it doesn't seem to work. Also, when it does un-do, sometimes it doesn't un-do it correctly. Can't figure out when it works and when it doesn't so Im very, very careful both going forward and with using the un-do option.
Anyway, another reason why I'm leery about going to the next step with Cog3 is because Cog1 and Cog2 don't work together yet. "1" works by itself and "2" works by itself (with the opposite one just staying still in each case). It seems logical that the two SHOULD work together before moving onto Cog3; am I correct on this?
When I went back in this time it was noticed that the "Link 1" is not there anymore. Maybe because when I exited I didn't do a Save? Here is what it looks like now with Link 1 gone:
In order to tell Cog2 to work with Cog1, I dragged the Cog1 layer (as per Step 7) into the Add Parameter Behavior so that Cog2 will be linked with Cog1:
For info #1: I *think* that when Cog1 was dragged and got to the box it looked like the little curved shortcut arrow but changed when it got there. I know it did it at least once - just don't remember for sure.
For info #2: I didn't "click" (and let go) on the Cog1 layer; I just dragged it into the Source Object box of the HUD.
The window shot appears to look exactly like it should (except for the shortcut arrow) but the ... dang ... gears .... still don't rotate together!!!  Arrrrgh! (sorry, this is just getting to me).
Maybe it should it have been "Option-dragged"?
Like I said, I'm afraid to move on to the Cog3 step if this hasn't been sorted out because I don't want to make a real mess of things.

Not that I know of, I'll try this again.
I'm working with the Apple Pro Training Series, Advanced Editing and Finishing Techniques in Final Cut Pro HD and when I open the media in FCP (6) the quality of the clips are very poor. Is there a setting I'm missing of is that just the way they come?

  • I need help with one chapter of the Logic training series book...

I've been studying from the Apple Pro training series manual - Logic pro 9, Professional Audio Production. I'm keen to sit the exam asap, and move onto the next book in the series, but may need a little coaching on one chapter - namely Appendix A, 'Using External MIDI devices.' I've never used Logic in this way, and only have one MIDI piano to work with at home. Therefore recreating what is required in the chapter, and getting my head around the material is proving difficult. Therefore I have two questions - 1) Will this section be tested in the exam?  And if so, 2) Is there anyone in the Berkshire / Surrey / West London area who could help me with a quick lesson? (I'd be prepared to pay, obviously) I've been using Logic for a number of years, so would prefer not to have to spend serious money on a full blown course.
I'm keen to sit the exam over half term if possibe - w/c 4th June 2012.
    Thanks for your help.
    Arron

    Hi
Appendix A covers setting up Audio MIDI Setup for a "real" external Synth, and then getting Logic to create a track to send MIDi out to that Synth. Finally, you set up the Program names.
You should be able to go through the first part (and do it) providing you have some kind of MIDI Interface showing up in AMS. Create a "dummy" MIDI 'Synth' and cable it up.
Once done, this 'dummy' synth will appear in Logic's Library for External Instrument tracks. Without an real synth you will not be able to hear any results.
You could run through the process for setting up the program names, but without something actually attached, you will not be able to hear/see the changes.
You could run in 32bit mode and use the "Software" quicktime synth, or maybe sort something using an IAC bus, but frankly, that's more likely to confuse the **** out of you at this stage.

  • Reference book? Apple Training Series: Mac OS X Support Essentials

Can anybody comment on this book by Peachpit press?
Apple Training Series: Mac OS X Support Essentials, 2nd Edition
I am looking to get a decent reference book for the workings of 10.5. I'm not looking to get Apple certified, but would like to be able to troubleshoot and learn about the OS.
Are there any other books I should be considering?
    Thanks in advance.

I spent some time at Borders last night and ended up buying Apple Training Series: Mac OS X Support Essentials, 2nd Edition.
The Missing Manual looked like a great book, but I wanted something that had more depth of what is going on behind the scenes. Most of what is covered in the missing manual are front-end stuff like all of the apps, finder, dock, etc. There is one small section on unix which barely scratches the surface.
I liked the support essentials book because it goes in to details on administration including troubleshooting, start-up sequences, networking, etc.
    Thank you for the recommendation.

  • Anyone study Apple Pro Training Series SP 2 without Final Cut Pro app?

    Hi Guys,
I have Soundtrack Pro 2. It came with the Logic Pro Studio bundle. I want to get the certification for SP 2. I just opened the SP 2 Apple Pro Training Series book and the first directions are to open +Final Cut Pro+ to convert the .fcp file in the lesson folder to a .stmp file to use in SP 2.
I don't have Final Cut Pro. Am I dead in the water? How does someone who got SP 2 via purchasing Logic Pro Studio follow this book, since Final Cut Pro doesn't come with the Logic bundle?
Thanks to anyone who can shed some light!

I'm checking back in here and bumping this thread up hoping someone from Apple might throw in a reply here. I've spent the last few days on the net seeking out anyone else who ran into this problem and I've discovered there are quite a few others running into this issue. How is someone who purchased STP with Logic Studio supposed to get certified? Why doesn't Apple let people know about this before they purchase the product? If they weren't aware of it before (I've been told Apple has now been notified of the issue), why isn't Apple addressing this and providing a workaround?
    Anyone from Apple out there?

  • The Great Train Robbery iTunes Movie Is Not a Western

This is for anyone at Apple who runs the iTunes Store download website. I was looking at your new movie downloads on offer, and I noticed a glaring error. Your download of "The Great Train Robbery (Sean Connery, Donald Sutherland, and Leslie Anne Down) is listed as a "Western" for genre. It is actually more accurately an "Eastern," which takes place in London and the Southeast of England, even though some of the action resembles some of the train robberies of the American West. It should even more accurately be listed as an "Action/Adventure Film" or a "Crime Drama". Do correct your listing of same on the iTunes Store site.

Contact the iTunes Store customer support department through the form at the bottom of their web page and explain the problem to them.

You should contact Peachpit about this.

Not sure what this means. Do you mean you can't copy from the accompanying disc? In which case the disc might be defective and you should return it to the reseller. At least that's the usual procedure for this.

Just to eliminate the possibility of a bad drive or wonky connection, try running a disk throughput test.
Do you have the AJA drive test app? If not, it can be found on their website under the Kona 3 tools and utilities (AJA System Test).
Download it and run it to test the throughput of the drive.
For an internal sata drive with a lot of free space, you should see read/write speeds well in excess of 80 MB/s.

  • Apple Training series Garageband 3 CD to GB 11

I am wondering if I can install the training series CD that goes with Garageband 3 into a new Imac with Garageband 11.

    LizCC,
I'm not familiar with that book.
One thing you might have to do though, is to copy the relevant files from the DVD to your hard drive before you can work with them.

  • Apple Training Series, iWork '06

    Hi,
I'm new to the Mac, and haven't used iWork before. I'm awaiting delivery of iWork '06, and wondered if it'd be worth my while getting the relevant Apple Training Series book to go with it - has anyone got any opinions on it? Thanks.

    Hullo NicePark:
Try your software first. If you're used to other things to do the same, then first of all forget them. Take iWork on its own terms. Explore the menu options, inspectors, and extensive help and online support at leisure. Read the PDF manuals and Apple links via help etc. as you feel the need, but don't feel obliged to remember everything at once.
Start afresh with something fairly straightforward if you can. The iWork suite is far more intuitive than people conditioned to other apps give it credit for. If you find yourself stumped after all the above and thinking about it, then use these forums for specific questions. It's what they're here for.
You'll understand other training materials better, and be more discerning as to what you need, if you've had a go yourself first. Chances are you'll find most of the basics easy as pie straight out of the box, and be looking for something more advanced if you want to take things further. By which time you could even find that you can work out those things too!
    Cheers.

  • Motion Pro Training Series Book

I'm looking into getting a training guide for Motion 2. The reviews of the book by Damian Allen in the Pro Training Series seem to indicate that it is a very helpful step-by-step tutorial, but I am concerned by the fact that it doesn't say that it is for Motion 2. Is this book geared towards the newer version of the program and, if not, is there a book that is? I would like to use the Apple Certified book, but I also don't want a book that's out of date. I'd appreciate any help I can get on this. Thanks

yep, i looked at that particular text as well, seeing how i'm a rank newb with motion but instead i settled upon mary plummer's "Getting Started with Motion" which states right on the cover "Fully Compatible with Motion 2" and i'm glad i started there. i like this text so far as it covers all the options in the user interface and why things do what they do. check it out.

  • Best Video Training Series For Photoshop

I am looking for a good video training series for Photoshop.
I learn much quicker when using video, but I need step-by-step instructions.
Needless to say, Photoshop is feature-rich and a bit intimidating.
    Any ideas?

What have you tried so far? What is your budget? Are you looking for free or paid (often better quality)?

  • Complete lessons iMovie 09 in Apple Training Series Book Before upgrading?

Normally I do upgrade as new versions SW come out. However, now I have a good book (1) with CD lessons that explains ILife ’09, including iMovie. So far I have not started the lessons on iMovie where a book is most helpful. If I upgrade to iLife 11, will the book and lessons become outmoded?
Anyone have knowledge and advice on this? Thank you.
    (1) Cohen, Wohl, Harrington, and Plummer. Apple Training Series: iLife 09, Peachpit Press, 2009

You can do a little more with iMovie 11, but the functionality of iMovie 09 is still there. For the stuff you use 90% of the time it is the same.

  • Apple Pro Training Series

I'm looking to get some advanced training in FCP and the whole studio. I've seen the Apple Pro Training Series and I'm comparing them with looking at the books and DVD's that came with the Final Cut Studio. Is there a difference between the two?

What book are you comparing the FCS material to?
In case it's not clear, the tutorial material that comes with Final Cut Studio is available in book form (Apple Pro Training Series: Getting Started with Final Cut Studio)

No, the materials in the box (and the aforementioned book) are not enough. (That is, if your knowledge of FCP begins and ends with that material)
Apple's Level 1 FCP exam is based - exactly, from what I hear - on the information and material presented in Diana Weyland's book (Apple Pro Training Series: Final Cut Pro 5).
The Level 2 exam, for instance, is based on Michael Wohl's book (Apple Pro Training Series: Advanced Editing Techniques in Final Cut Pro 5)
    Hope that helps.
