Maybe Going Pro, But First A Question Or Two

Hello All!!
I have posted this question regarding DVD Menus and Chapters on the iDVD board (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=626363&tstart=0), and was advised to pose the same question here (since I have thoughts of purchasing a copy of DVDSP).
Here's the quote:
"I would like to try to have the following outline on the DVD, but I need to know if anyone has had success with the same type of mapping of their DVD, made in iDVD.
Okay, here goes…
Menu 1: Play Movie --> Plays all 110 (or so) 1-2 minute speeches
Scene Selection --> Has five (5) choices: Class A, Class B, Class C, Class D, and Class E.
Menu 2, 3, 4, 5, & 6: Is to have the class alphabetical lists linking the student's name to their own speech."
I'm not up with all the jargon, but any questions to shed light on the ideas I have, please ask away.
I have aslo been asked by "mish" to pose this question to see if it is possible in DVDSP:
"when creating a movie with chapters in iDVD, if you select to play one of the chapters it doesn't get you back to the menu at the end of that chapter, but keeps playing through the remaining chapters."
Thanks in advance for your assistance..
Rodger
iMac G5, 2.0Ghz, 2.0GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   iDVD 6.0.2, 120GB La Cie D2 FW400 Hard Drive, 250GB La Cie D2 FW400 Hard Drive

All do-able in DVDSP... and pretty easy to do as well.
You can create the menus with links to the chapters in your track (which will play the chapter and then continue), you can set the chapters into stories and point the menu buttons to those instead and you can set each story to go back to the right menu.
You can then point a play all button at the track itself, which will then play all... which hopefully answers mish's question as well as yours.
Much of this is in the tutorials that come with DVDSP, and it is well worth your time going through those if you haven't already moved up to DVDSP. There is a lot of help available on this forum as well, mind you!

  • Possibly moving from a Lenovo y50 to a gs60 pro but have a question.

    Hello everyone.
    I have a Lenovo y50 touch that is about to be past its return date friday, I love the laptop but sadly there are 2 things wrong with it that are bad enough to make me want another computer.
    The first thing is the screen, I have adjusted the color as well as I can and it is still mediocre at best.
    Second thing is, you can not use the HDMI out with the gtx 860m, it will only use the Intel graphics. Thus making the idea of the laptop a desktop replacement impossible, that and the terrible screen ruin the laptop.
    My main question is if you hook HDMI cable (or the display link) to a monitor will the laptop allow you to use the graphics card for display?
    If I go into my nVidia display settings when I have HDMI connected it will not show the external monitor, only the intel software shows it.
    I have a week till Friday to fill for an RMA and I would like to get both laptops to compare beforehand. But if the gs60 pro will not be able to function as a true desktop replacement then there is no point in spending the extra cash.
    Here is the model I am looking at.

    Also what do you guys love/hate the most of the gs60 line?
    Thank you!

    You can't change the design of external display port.
    For GS60, the HDMI port is connected with the Intel Graphics, thus you can only adjust the display settings by using Intel Graphics Properties.

  • Looking To Buy A MacBook Pro, But Have A Question

    Hello,
    I am looking to purchase a 17” MacBook Pro and was thinking about getting 8 GB of SDRAM on it. My question is would all of the ram be able to be utilized in the system or would it just use up to 4GB of SDRAM. I am wondering about this because this is still a 32 bit system, right?

    With Snow Leopard, it's fully 64-bit (with a couple of minor exceptions), so it will make use of all 8 GB of RAM, if you max out the RAM.

  • Reformatting HD with clean install... but first a question...

    So my Powerbook has been... slow since I put Leopard on it. Much, much slower than when I had Tiger on it.
    I am thinking however that maybe it has to do with me just doing an upgrade rather than a clean install. So I want to do a clean install, etc.
    If I do this can I still go back to my Time Machine and pull files, apps, etc back on to the machine? Or will it not allow this?
    If anyone has any information I would really appreciate it (or if you think I should just go back to Tiger I'd love to hear why)!
    Thanks,
    Stephen

    Sorry, I don't want to restore the whole thing from the time machine back up, just pull individual files/folders or apps.
    Can I do that with my Time Machine Volume and a new install of Leopard or will it not recognize it as such?
    For instance, could I pull Quicksilver or Photoshop over from my TM backup to my new system without having to re-install? Or old work and school files/folders?
    Or if I pull the whole user over (as was suggested) would it just give me all my apps, all my settings, etc with no losses?

  • This is the same question I've asked 3x in 24 hours, but it doesn't appear in the listing. Maybe I need help in phrasing questions?:)Q. why can I play some DVDs on my MacBook Pro but not on desk top Apple (they're both -1 year olds

    Hi
    This'll be my third attempt in 24 hrs to ask the same question. maybe I need guidance on phrasing questions?:)
    Q. Why can I always play DVDs on my MacBook Pro but not always on my desk top Apple. They're both less than  year old. The desk top sometimes displays a message that says I have to change regions (from Australia to South America...doh...)

    Region Code 4:
    Mexico, Central and South America, and the South Pacific.
    Includes Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Aruba, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, British Virgin Islands, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Falkland Islands, French Guiana, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, New Guinea, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay, Venezuela
    Apparently my first response was off in left field.  The DVD player has its own code.  My recommendation is to change the code when it asks.  It is possible that the disks that play correctly are region-free and the ones that don't have a region code.  If this does not work, you still have four more changes available; you won't be stuck with the new code.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
    You can install the new hard disk yourself if you want to. You just need a 2'5" SATA II hard drive, which is compatible with your MacBook Pro. You can buy one at OWC > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/ You can filter hard drives by computer, so press a "Click to view all...", choose your computer in the sidebar and it will give you the compatible hard drives.
    There are different brands for the MacBook Pro. The most recommended are HGST and Seagate, which have good reputation. A 7200 rpm hard drive will give you extra performance

    I am being asked to upgrade to iCloud Drive but indications are that I will not be able to access up to date details on any of my documents on my Mac without going into iCloud first.  Have I got this interpretation right or can I save changes to access the new versions on my iMac?

    That is Apple's statement:
    Using iWork with iCloud Drive - Apple Support
    Options for iWork customers
    You can upgrade to iCloud Drive today if you want to keep your documents up to date in iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite, and you want to use the iWork web apps on iCloud.com and the Share via iCloud feature.
    You can upgrade to iCloud Drive later if you want to keep your documents up to date with your apps on iOS 7 or earlier and OS X Mavericks or earlier.
    Upgrade to iCloud Drive today
    To access the most recent versions of your documents from a Mac with OS X Mavericks or earlier, you’ll need to go to iCloud.com and access Pages, Numbers, and Keynote from there. On a PC, you can install iCloud for Windows and set up iCloud Drive.
    If you upgrade to iCloud Drive now:
    Your documents will keep up to date across devices with iOS 8, Macs with OS X Yosemite, PCs with iCloud for Windows, and iCloud.com.
    Your documents will no longer keep up to date on devices with iOS 7 and Macs with OS X Mavericks or earlier.
    You’ll be able to use the iWork web apps on iCloud.com.
    You’ll be able to use the Share via iCloud feature with iOS 8, OS X Yosemite, and iCloud.com.
    Documents you previously shared via iCloud will be accessible to collaborators.
    Upgrade to iCloud Drive later
    Note that until you upgrade your iCloud account to iCloud Drive, you won’t be able to use the iWork web apps on iCloud.com or the Share via iCloud feature.     If you don’t upgrade to iCloud Drive at this time:
    Your documents will keep up to date across devices with iOS 8 and across devices with iOS 7 and Macs with OS X Mavericks or earlier.
    You won’t be able to use the iWork web apps on iCloud.com.
    You won’t be able to use the Share via iCloud feature.
    Documents you previously shared via iCloud won’t be accessible to collaborators until you upgrade to iCloud Drive.

  • I have 8 gb on my macbook pro, but it sometimes only recognizes 4 gb. Whats going on?

    I have 8 gb on my macbook pro, but it sometimes only recognizes one of the banks and thus only 4 gb. I was about to open my Macbook Pro mid 2010 2.66 up but it went back up to 8 gb of ram.
    I also noticed that the macbook would go to sleep and not wake up again, sometimes. Not sure if this is related.
    I did the usual, resetting the PRAM and the other thing with "shift control option." It didn't work and kept on saying 4 gb.
    I woke up this morning ready to break open the mac when it read 8 gb. Great! But the **** is going on. Is that memory slot loose?
    My google search and search through these forums were useless, no solutions. One guy tried changing his memory into the two banks, no difference. Sometimes it recognizes bank 1 sometimes it doesn't. Another put his ram in another computer, it's not the ram. Someone suggested the motherboard, then someone said "no way" for some arcane reason.
    The only solution that seamed viable was going back to snow leopard, the last great OS. Im on mountain lion, not to shabby, but no leopard.
    Problem is that I am out of warranty.
    Any suggestion would be helpful.

    why don't you try this:
    open the back of your Macbook - if you're technically capable...
    take the ram out, clean it up with a pencil eraser - blow it out - put them back in, slowly and in a slight angle until they lock into place - make sure they are seated correctly...
    restart your macbook - if the same bank is still not detecting - then the issue is your RAM slot...
    good luck

  • *Flash animation looping but going back to first frame {want to hold on last frame}

    I came across this article on looping animations = http://www.quip.net/blog/2006/flash/how-to-loop-three-times
    I'm a novice with flash and just trying to plug thru to get some ads up and running for the first time.
    Everything worked for me in the article...the one thing I wanted to do but haven't found an answer to is how to stop the animation on the last frame after looping is complete, instead of automatically going back to the first frame??
    What's the easiest/most effective way to do this?
    The stop script does not work...still goes back to first frame.
    For all my flash ads, I've imported an FLV video...so don't know if it's some function for flv's/video's that auto-rewinds to first frame...
    Thanks so much, really appreciate any insight on this.
    The sooner you can catch a minute to get back the better

    Ok...not working for me - prob. b/c I'm missing something again.
    What I did was...
    1)  Renamed the instace of replay button = "replay_btn".
    [not sure if that's correct...guessed b/c you reference it in the code]
    2)  I placed this in the action code on action layer on last keyframe =
    var loopNum:Number;
    loopNum++;
    if(loopNum%3==0){
    stop();
    your_replay_btn._visible=true;
    } else {
    your_replay_btn._visible=false;
    3) I placed this in action code on the replay layer on last keyframe =
    your_replay_btn.onRelease=function(){
    this.gotoAndPlay(1);
    What happens is the replay button still flashes at the end of each loop and the loops just continue...it doesn't stop at 3.
    I also get this error =
    Can you break down what I'm doing wrong and how to fix...need to get this out asap.
    I truly appreciate your help and time so far on this...big thanks kglad!

    No.
    Power Adapter/ cord wattage
    “Power adapters for Intel-based Apple notebooks are available in 45W, 60W, and 85W varieties. Although you should always use the proper wattage adapter for your Apple notebook, you can use an adapter of a higher wattage without issue.”

    Best.

    I have downloaded a CD from iTunes onto my Macbook pro but the first three songs cut out after a few seconds? Help!

    Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past music purchases, delete the current copies from your iTunes library, go to the iTunes Store home page, click the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not on this computer. You should find download links for your tracks there.
    If the problem persists, or that facility is not yet available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the report a problem links in your account history, or via Contact Support.

  • Issue with First Quiz Question

    When I try to go back BEFORE answering the first quiz
    question, when I move forward again to the first question, it tells
    me that "You did not answer the question completely"and it will not
    allow me to answer this question or any additional questions. (I
    have set the option to use the BACK button in a quiz.) If I answer
    the FIRST question, it allows me to go backwards on any additional
    questions. Why can't I move backwards before I answer the first
    question? Is there something I am missing?

    As Mzedella said, my understanding is that backing out of the
    quiz (going backwards past the first question) costs the user an
    attempt, so if you've only allowed one attempt, the questions are
    considered not answered....
    We have a mix of content and questions (not a single block of
    quiz questions), and wanted to allow backward movement. We solved
    this problem by making the first slide a question. That way, the
    user is always in the quiz and they can move backward as much as
    they like.
    If you can't think of a good question for the first slide
    (often a question about their background knowledge is good), you
    can always make it 'are you ready to begin?'. A little clumsy, but
    you get the functionality you want.
    We further required all questions to be answered, so users
    can't skip ahead past unanswered questions. By removing the nav
    bar, but including a menu (via skin), users can easily review the
    material, but are still required to at least click through all the
    slides. This works for our application, but you many want something
    different.
