Maybe I'm crazy...

But is there a way to selectively publish files to a folder?
I mean, I have 30 websites in my domain and when ever I make an update, I'm forced to bring that site up to the forefront, publish it, wait till I see the site below it pop onto my desktop and then delete that before it can get anywhere. That way iWeb gets confused and stops the publishing. Why is this not a feature?

Unfortunately I think nothing has changed to as to this issue. It's stayed the same as the last version. Hoping for updates in the coming weeks.

  • Spaces has been broken (IMO) since 10.6 and is still broken in 10.6.3...

    As many recall, Spaces was introduced in OS X 10.5 Leopard... From the get go I found it one of the most useful utilities to come along in a long time... What a great way to organize a desktop... I would set up Space 1 to be Web browsers, Space 2 for email clients, Space 3 for running Windows on my Mac, Space 4 for Excel and so forth... Twas wonderful... If I had multiple Excel spreadsheets open I could go find them all over in Space 4 and with no other clutter, just Excel, nice and clean...
    And then Snow Leopard came along and it all changed... Since OS X 10.6 first came out and still through today in 10.6.3, on first open of a given application, as it should it will still open in its assigned Space, like for me, the first Excel document will still open in Space 4 no matter what Space I am in when I launch Excel... So far, so good...
    But, for every subsequent opening of an Excel document, the document will open in whatever Space you happen to be in at the time... Busted... Almost worthless (IMO)... Why bother to have an assigned Space if in fact, it really isn't the Space where a given app's docs will open??? In Leopard they opened in one, defined Space... Made sense... In Snow Leopard, they open all over the place even if there is an assigned Space... Seems to make no sense...
    But what I find amazing is almost no one seems to care... Myself and three or four other posters have been talking about this since Snow Leopard first came out... But no one else... And that same small group of folks have all used Feedback to let Apple know we think it was sooooo much more useful in Leopard, but update after update, it stays in this (IMO) far less useful mode...
    One question I have is does the very small number of folks who have seemed to talk about this means that folks don't use Spaces???? Or does it mean that maybe I'm crazy and that others can imagine how the way it is deployed in Snow Leopard is not really broken but instead the way Apple intends it to work????
    I've pretty much given up on Apple ever responding... I have actually gotten in the habit of manually switching to the Space BEFORE I open say a second or subsequent Excel doc into Space 4 (in my case). But that's more work, not less, and manually switching to the Space first seems to defeat the entire purpose for Spaces in the first place...
    Anyway, if anyone has any comments I'd be interested in hearing them...
    thanks much... bob..

    My huge annoyance is how Preview converts ai, .eps and .ps files to .pdf files.
    It has progressively deteriorated from Tiger to Leopard to Snow Leopard.
    In Leopard it defaulted to saving the .pdfs to the Documents folder not the place of origin and would regularly crash if more than a few (sometimes just 2) files were opened simultaneously.
    In Snow Leopard nothing was fixed and now the names are stripped off the converted files so that they are all called Untitled.
    Apple must have received hundreds of bug reports (I diligently sent one every time Preview crashed) and several feedbacks detailing the problem, to the point I believe persecuting Designers and ruining their work has become a NEXT programmers secret objective.
    Except for a couple of minor bug fixes to do with drag & drop in Preview, I am puzzled where the so-called improvements in Snow Leopard really benefit user.

  • MacBook Pro (mid-2010) Internal USB HUB freezes/locks up

    MacBook Pro (mid-2010) wilth the latest firmware, etc.
    OS X 10.9.1
    USB KVM to share keyboard and mouse with another computer
    This has been working flawlessly until I upgraded to 10.9.1
    The KVM uses the Scroll Lock key to toggle the input between the two computers
    I switch back and forth many times a day.
    Almost once a day now, all my input to my MBP will lock up when switching the KVM over.
    The MBP track pad, keyboard, blue tooth Magic Mouse, KVM mouse and keyboard all become unresponsive.
    I am assuming that the interal keyboard/track pad/blue tooth transceiver are all tied to an internal USB HUB.
    The MBP is up and running and I can ssh into it.  The only error message in the log is that the mouse device coming from the KVM is busy and it will be disabled. I have tried to close the lid for several minutes and then re-open, but it does not resolve the issue. I have tried connecting another USB mouse/keyboard during this time and it will not work. I have tried kill -HUP on the usbd and USBAgent processes. Everything stays unresponsive. The only way to resolve this condition is to reboot the MBP.  Note: the KVM works find on the other computer when I switch it back and forth regardless of the state of the MBP.
    I am suspecting that when this happens it is some how disabling the internal USB HUB, which if all the other devices are connected through it, nothing no longer works (but maybe I am crazy with that thought).  Anyone have any insight?  Is there a way to reset the internal HUB short of a reboot?
    Thanks in advance!

    I'm seeing the same problem with a 2010 Mac Mini with IOGear KVM and MS wireless mouse. This setup worked flawlessly for years on Snow Leopard but started hanging soon after the Mavericks upgrade. I'm running 10.9.4, currently the latest release. The system usually hangs after a KVM keyboard switch from Windows on the other set of KVM cables back to the Mac Mini. ssh into OSX works fine but a shutdown hangs indefinitely. top showed no processes spinning. The 1st console message after the hang was:
    8/6/14 8:49:21.000 PM    kernel[0]    USBF:    1317978.201    AppleUSBHubPort: Port 2 of Hub at 0x6200000 about to terminate a busy device (Microsoft® 2.4GHz Transceiver v7.0) after waiting 10 seconds
    There were no other messages for hours before this. I'm using VM Fusion but I think it hung once without it running. The Windows 7 side of the KVM works fine.

  • Is it possible to use events for objects that do not use swing or awt

    Dear Experts
    I want to know if events are possible with plain java objects. A simple class that is capable of firing an event and another simple class that can receive that event. My question is
    1. If it is possible - then what is the approach that needs to be taken and would appreciate an example.
    2. Is Observer Pattern in java going to help?
    To explain further i am doing [Add,Modify,Delete,Traverse] Data tutorial using swing in Net beans. I have a ButtonState Manager class that enables and disables buttons according to a given situation. For example if add is clicked the modify button becomes Save and another becomes Cancel. The other buttons are disabled. What i want is the ButtonStateManager class to do a little further - i.e. if Save is clicked it should report to DBClass that it has to save the current record which was just added. I am foxed how this can be done or what is the right way. Thanks for reading a long message. Appreciate your help.
    Best regards

    Thanks Kayaman
    i guess i am doing something else maybe it is crazy but i need to work further i guess... i cant post the entire code as it is too big but some snippets
    public class DatabaseApplication extends javax.swing.JFrame {
        ButtonStateManager bsm;
        /** Creates new form DatabaseApplication */
        public DatabaseApplication() {
            initComponents();
            // ButtonStateManager has a HUGE constructor that takes all the buttons as argument!
            bsm = new ButtonStateManager(
                    btnAdd,
                    btnModify,
                    btnDelete,
                    btnQuit,
                    btnMoveNext,
                    btnMovePrevious,
                    btnMoveLast,
                    btnMoveFirst );One of the methods in the ButtonStateManager Class is as follows
      private void modifyButtonState()
            btnAdd.setText("Save");
            btnModify.setEnabled(false);
            btnDelete.setText("Cancel");
            btnQuit.setEnabled(false);
            ...Finally the Crazy way i was trying to do ... using EXCEPTIONS!
      void modifyClicked() throws DBAction
            if(btnModify.getText().equalsIgnoreCase("MODIFY"))
                modifyButtonState();
            else
                throw new DBAction("SaveAddedRecord");

                bsm.addClicked();
            } catch (Exception e1) {

  • Once and for all: Can DVD SP build Blu-Ray disc content or not?

    Maybe I’m crazy, but…
    Everything I’ve heard to date has Apple backing the Blu-Ray format. Believing this, I just spent $900 on a new Lacie D2 external Blu-Ray burner (which IS Mac compatible). I also purchased Toast 8 (which IS Blu-Ray compatible).
    All I need to do now is build my disc content (assign H.264 1920x1080 content, build menus, etc.) then drop it all into Toast and burn Blu-Ray video discs… right?
    So what is all this I’m reading here about DVD Studio Pro supporting the HD DVD format and not Blu-Ray???!!!!!!
    Am I going to be able to do this using DVD SP or not, and if not, can anybody tell me a program I can use to build my Blue-Ray disc content? (All of my HD content is H.264 (1920x1080) rendered directly from Adobe After Effects).
    My deadline for this project is fast approaching and I’m hoping somebody can shed some light on this. If I can build Blu-Ray discs and burn them on my Mac using Toast 8 and the Lacie D2, I’ll make my deadline and justify the $900 spent thus far.
    Can anybody help?
    Thanks, SM

    Wait a minute,
    Maybe I don’t need to buy PC to run DVDit Pro HD. I have a Mac Pro! With Boot camp I have a PC! Any reason I shouldn’t try running DVDit on my Mac via the Boot Camp beta? That way I'd also be using my Lacie D2 Bu-Ray drive. And with Roxio's 30 day return policy I haven’t much to loose...
    I'm calling Roxio tech support. Let you know how it goes

    A LITTLE LATER:
    Just got back from digging into Roxio's discussion forum and here's what I found:
    I have travelled down the same frustrating path my friend!
    But I did succeed doing it all on my new mac Pro, finally...
    Install BOOTCAMP (free beta). Install WINDOWS XP ($269 from AMAZON). Install ULEAD BD RECORDER, which comes with DVD MOVIEFACTORY 6 (free trial, $80 to buy).
    BDAV worked well from SONY V1-U burning to MATSHITA BD-MLT SW-5582 and played perfectly in new SAMSUNG 1200 palyer on my 57" DLP.
    TIP - install BOOTCAMP et al on its own HD, and use NTFS... This will come in handy when doing a BDAV from a file such as HDV1080 that is larger than 4GB.
    To do BDMV, you'll need SONIC DVD-IT PRO HD ($499) which I have yet to try...
    Frustrating process, but kinda cool to figure it all out, especially when NOBODY in sales at any of these places seems to have a clue.
    So there you go - must be possible

  • How to disable a module for awhile when MOD_AUTOLOAD="yes"?

    Hello,
    By default, my system loads the ndiswrapper module on boot, and has my native wifi driver blacklisted. This is because the ndiswrapper driver works much more reliably for everyday use. However, I sometimes need a feature that the native rt2500pci driver offers. So, I figured this would be easy, I will write a shell script to unload the ndiswrapper module, and load the native driver module, and run this script when needed.
    What I found was that this does not work, the ndiswrapper module is automatically started again as soon as it is disabled. Then the wifi card continues to use ndis instead of the native driver. This is apparently because MOD_AUTOLOAD is enabled. So, I turned off MOD_AUTOLOAD, but found that to be an unsatisfactory solution for many reasons so I re-enabled it.
    What is a way that I can disable a module without having it automatically reload, without requiring a reboot every time I want to do this?
    My rc.conf (the relevant part):
    MOD_AUTOLOAD="yes"
    #MOD_BLACKLIST=() #deprecated
    MODULES=(autofs4 !snd_usb_lib !rt2500pci snd_virtuoso ndiswrapper)
    My shell script (This script probably has steps in it that are not necessary):
    #!/bin/bash
    # Script to unload ndiswrapper and load native rt2500pci driver, then reconnect to network. Run as root user
    ifconfig wlan0 down
    /etc/rc.d/network stop
    modprobe -r ndiswrapper
    modprobe rt2500pci
    /etc/rc.d/network start
    ifconfig wlan0 up
    iwconfig wlan0 essid "IMGIVINGUCANCER"
    dhcpcd wlan0
    Last edited by fatjake (2010-05-24 06:43:42)

    The problem was in /etc/modprobe.d
    There was a file with the following:
    alias wlan0 ndiswrapper
    If I changed my scripts so that every time the script was run it would remove that alias and add an alias for rt2500pci, then I could change to that driver on the fly without rebooting.
    The only problem is that after I am done using the native driver and want to switch back to ndiswrapper it fails. I made another script similar to the first one but to switch it back to ndiswrapper. It is unable to start the network and the mac address of the card shows as all zeros. Maybe I am crazy and should not be trying to change drivers for my wifi card without rebooting.

  • EA6300 and "devidentd" removed/added messages repeatedly?

    Maybe it's crazy, but I'm grasping at straws to fix a connectivity issue I've been seeing with an EA6300 router and a WUMC710... I've tried just about everything including switching to just N-only on the router, setting a fixed IP address for the WUMC710, setting a fixed channel/bandwidth for the 5GHz network on the router (there's nobody else even approaching the signal strength nearby)...
    So I've started monitoring http://192.168.1.1/sysinfo.cgi and I notice that my WUMC710 device's IP address keep getting these sort of messages logged, even though it's up and working:
    Feb 13 16:24:45 (none) daemon.notice devidentd[4052]: IP neighbor 192.168.1.9 [98:FC:11:AC:87:F7] removed (detected via polling)

    Should that message keep getting logged when the device is there and in use? After a google search I see that there's been a firmware update to the WRT1900 router which has a noted that "Integrated a permanent fix for the devidentd bug" is mentioned there... that firmware came out in July, while the latest for the EA6300 is from May. Are these errors related to the bug, or am I just seeing an artifact that's not really an indicator of a problem?
    Thanks,
    -ech

    So the link between the WUMC710 and EA6300 was now working for well over 2 days (all while constantly pinging the 710 from another host in the network... but at about the 1.5 day mark, the messages (all of them) related to the IP address of the 710 have stopped showing up at all, and in fact there was a set of messages indicating that it didn't respond to arp, and so now it's listed as "offline" in the EA6300 status page.
    However, the wumc710 device was still pingable as was the device connected to the ethernet side of it (that device still shows up in the logs and "online" in the EA6300 status page. Also the sysinfo.cgi data still showed the mac address of the 710 was associated on the 5GHz channel.
    But just now, while I was typing this, the WUMC710 stopped reponding...
    I connected a laptop to it and its status page shows "disconnected".. so at least the device is still working. But that means that the WUMC710 just doesn't bother to attempt to reconnect... because all I had to do was to go to the wireless survey screen, select the same ssid and type the same password in again... and it connected up just fine. Ugh.
    Will try moving the device somewhere with better reception, but the fact that the wumc710 doesn't (at least under some conditions) try to re-establish a connection with the router seems to be a pretty obvious bug and one that could/should be fixed with a firmware update (on the WUMC).

  • G4 power mac PCI, cuda / pmu button (s),  what is the button next to the cuda / pmu button for ??

    ANYONE KNOW WHAT IT'S FOR ?????  .............  Thank You, and Have a Nice Day !!,  wayne146

    japamac, thanks for the fast reply,
    I have done the cuda reset with some success, still not working correctly though, machine only responds to power button on the front, not to the k/b button, (it did before) even used another k/b, both known to be good. Since this problem started, cuda reset has been done a few times, with some time intervals between them, battery tested, new battery, etc., etc.
    On my screen here, near the top, is a column titled, "more like this", in it is a "green checked" answer that reads; After resetting cuda / pmu, doesn't power up, 400mhz imac (<not my machine, I know) what next" answered by "Spudnuty", IN his reply's he mentions a list called "Symptoms / Cures Tables", related to pmu / cuda problems as I read it. Yet I have not found any such list by doing searches varying how I word it.
    Would You know of this list ?, or if it is still available ? ..... I had no luck looking for it, ..... wayne146 ....

  • Airport Extreme and a T1?

    I am fairly new to the world of Apple. I am actually an administrative consultant working for a man who is changing over his office from PC to Mac. Today, we had a T1 installed and the tech plugged it in to our old Netgear router. When a call came through, we think the increased voltage from the T1 fried the old wireless router (which could only handle the more tame DSL voltage). We bought an Airport Extreme tonight and will be setting it up tomorrow. I just wanted to double check with you experts that the same thing isn't going to happen with the Airport. We are using an XO Flex line which means that it is shared between voice and data, with the full T1 being dedicated to data if there are no active voice calls. Can anyone think of anything I should know?

    Maybe I am crazy, but a T1 is a digital signal, and hence the voltage is not higher. Coming out of the DSU/CSU (T1 box) it should be standard Ethernet, which is 2.2 -2.8 volts. It will never increase or decrease even it you upgraded to a DS3.
    The first router should have been fine, and the Apple should be fine.

  • IOS 8 iWork and Dropbox

    Many of us are noticing that you cannot use Dropbox as a storage provider in any of the iWork apps. Even when it is enabled, Dropbox will not show up when you click on the "+' to open a file. Other third-party storage providers, such as Box, work as expected. This problem has been reported to Dropbox and their answer, provided below, indicates that they do not regard this as a bug but might consider redoing their implementation. Until then, the only option is to store your files on a different storage provider or to use Dropbox's complicated work-around. If you want to read the entire thread, go to the mobile apps forum at Dropbox and search for storage provider and iOS 8.
    >>Wanted to clarify here - Apple's Document Picker extension allows apps the option to import/export or open/move documents. The Dropbox app currently supports the import/export functionality. As a result, Dropbox will not appear in apps that only support the open/move functionality.
    For those apps, you should be able to still use the "Open In" functionality to open files into Dropbox, and back into the third party app using the sharing menu.
    Hope this helps - and please feel free to submit a ticket at https://www.dropbox.com/support if you have additional feedback. This integration is new, so we'll be sure to pass along this feedback to our development team.<<

    Of course you can "send" iWorks files to apps.  And I know that you can use other apps such as Documents for retrieval.  I'm just referring to the fact that it's not as seamless and as easy to use as it should be.  I'd recommend installing Word for iOS to see what I'm talking about.  Right from within the app (Word), I can browse my DropBox folders, open files, and save them.  No "sending" or using other apps to accomplish my simple task.
    Maybe I'm crazy though!  If you can tell me, step by step, all without ever leaving Pages, how to open a file from DropBox and save it with ONE step, I'd love to know.  It's just so EASY using Word and Excel for iOS.
    Thanks for your help, you are the best!

  • Aren't there supposed to be more presets in the Color FX room in ver 1.5?

    Maybe I am crazy, but I thought there were more preset looks in FCS3?

    I was under that impression, too... but maybe you have to go download 'em:
    *Built-in looks*
    *Get started fast by choosing one of more than 20 looks provided as custom effects in the Color FX Bin. The looks, reminiscent of your favorite films, include Dream Warm, Day for Night, Warm Glow, and Movie Look Green for a science fiction feel. In addition, you can expand your library by downloading more than 90 new Apple-designed looks. Because you can easily customize any look, you can save time by using an Apple-designed look as a point of departure as you create a unique effect.*
    With all due respect to Bob, I have only ever used a couple of the originals and then changed them, and then dropped using the COLORFX room except for Nattress chroma processing and just about nothing else.

  • Minor issues after KDE 4.9 upgrade.

    Hello All.
    After upgrading to KDE 4.9, I noticed:
    1.  My computer took some extra time to shutdown (only when running on AC
        power).  I ran a diff on a snapshot of my processes taken before starting
        X, and after shutting it down, and found that kactivitymanagerd is the
        problem-- it does not respond to SIGTERM, only SIGKILL.  I guess it is not
        a huge issue, but it annoys me nevertheless.  Executing `pkill --signal 9
        kactivityman` solves the issue, but I don't know where to put it...  my
        .xinitrc runs `exec startkde`, so I never get the chance there.  Any
        suggestions?  Also, is anyone else having this problem?  Is this worth a
        bug report?
    2.  Some of the kwin effects seem less smooth.  In particular, the "show
        desktop grid" effect (most others seem fine).  Did anyone else notice
        this?  Maybe I'm crazy, but I swear it was smoother in 4.8.  If anyone can
        confirm, did you find an answer?  I tried to set the thumbnails to
        "smooth" instead of "accurate", but it didn't seem to help.  By the way,
        this is on an X220 with intel graphics hardware (and the i915 kernel
        module).
    Has anyone successfully downgraded KDE from their cache before?  I want to go
    back to 4.8, but I'm scared of creating a much larger disaster.
    Thanks in advance.
    ***Update***
    Running my power-saving script fixes the first issue with kactivitymanagerd
    (which is why it only happened on AC).  I get the feeling this will be
    something obscure, so it is probably best to not waste your time
    investigating.  But if you do run into this, I'm happy to share my script,

    report as soon as I get the chance.
    Also, I have one update:  I think the first problem I mentioned
    (kactivitymanagerd refusing to die) might be somewhat me-specific, so don't
    look too hard for a solution.  The reason it only happens when I am on AC is
    that in this case my power-saving script is *not* run.  If I run the powersave
    script, kactivitymanagerd will exit at the right time o_O  No clue why the
    script would fix this.  There's nothing exotic in the script, and I still
    contend this is a bug, but I'm not sure it would be worth your time to
    investigate.
    Thanks again, everyone.

  • Table to XML via SQL ?

    Hi everybody,
    I'm stucked on this problem since 2 days...
    I want to generate pseudo-XML data from a single table which (simplified) definition is:
    Tag         Key     Parent    Data
    Root        1       NULL      ABC
    Node        2       1         DEF
    Node        3       1         GHI
    SubNode1    4       3         KLM
    SubNode11   5       4         NOP
    SubNode11   6       4         QRS
    SubNode12   7       4         TUV
    SubNode12   8       4         WXY
    SubNode1    9       3         Z01
    SubNode12   10      9         234What I want to generate something like:
    <Root>ABC
    <Node>DEF</Node>
    <Node>GHI
      <SubNode1>KLM
       <SubNode11>Nop</SubNode11>
       <SubNode11>QRS</SubNode11>
       <SubNode12>TUV</SubNode12>
       <SubNode12>WXY</SubNode12>
      </SubNode1>
      <SubNode1>Z01
       <SubNode12>234</SubNode12>
      </SubNode1>
    </Node>
    </Root>(The result could be a single row, or one row per line)
    I'm trying to use a single SQL query to do this job (maybe I'm crazy, OK! :)). I tryed several ones. For example, this one :
    SELECT LPAD(' ',2*(LEVEL-1)) || '<' || Tag || '>' || Data || '</' || Tag || '>'
    FROM XML_TBL
    START WITH Parent IS NULL
    CONNECT BY PRIOR Key = ParentThis query gives me (one row per line):
    <Root>ABC
    <Node>DEF
    <Node>GHI
      <SubNode1>KLM
       <SubNode11>NOP
       <SubNode11>QRS
       <SubNode12>TUV
       <SubNode12>WXY
      <SubNode1>Z01
       <SubNode12>234I currently can cope with this format, but I'm still tring to obtain the result I wanted. I also tried several queries including GROUPING and GROUP BY ROLLUP keywords, in order to insert end separators (</...>) after group breaks, but I never successed.
    Is anybody has a clue ?
    I'm aware that SQL is not really intented to that, but if a single query can greatly ease development on end-user software side, I would really appreciate :)
    Thanks in advance for any hint!
    And please excuse my really bad english, as this is not my mother-tongue :D

    have you tried the new XML functionality of Oracle SQL?
    take a look at this article from the otn page.

  • InDesign Cs4 Bleed/Slug not scaling with reduced print?

    Maybe I'm crazy, but I feel certain that when I've printed my layouts in the past, Indesign scaled the bleed and slug along with the rest of the page when I printed at a reduced size.
    Today, I can't get the bleed or the slug to output in relative scale to the document. i.e. a 20" x 32" poster with 1/8" bleeds and a 2 inch slug on top is being printed at 50%. In the Print preview box, it shows that while the page is being reduced properly to 10" x 16", the bleed is still 1/8" and the slug is still 2 inches, not 1/16" and 1" as I would have expected.

    Sorry, miskeyed and hit the return key before I finished my thoughts:
    Am I wrong in thinking that InDesign usually scales bleed and slug with the page? Am I mis-remembering?
    If not, what is causing the odd non-scaling of bleed and slug?

  • Trouble printing a dashboard

    Hi all,
    I'm trying to print a dashboard and the trouble is that if the dashboard has, say 6 rows, when I print (or just preview), it will only show the first two rows of portlets.  It seems that it is making use of the browser's print capability, not P6's own print setup options.  By going into page setup, and zooming out to 50%, I was able to get a printout that wasn't cut off at the sides, but still only shows the first two rows of portlets, not all 6 rows.  Normally I would think this is just they way it works and it is limited here, but (and maybe I'm crazy) I thought a previous version (like back in version 5 or 6) you could print the entire dashboard.  Any comments would be helpful.  Anyone know of any workarounds?  Is this still the case in EPPM Rel 8.3 sp1?  Thanks!

    I posted a similar question back in October and no replys. I've found some success by using the "Convert To PDF" feature on the Internet Explorer Adobe Create Toolbar.
