Maybe it's just basic iTunes usage i'm missing...

But when I have purchased a single song, and then later want to buy the entire album, is there a smart way to do that ?
The way I do it today, is: iTunes Store -> Search Artists -> Click Album and Buy.
I'm thinking of a way like: Search song, Rightclick song -> Show Entire Album.

You cannot select only one album to complete.
Umnn... My "Complete My Albums" page not only list separate albums but list separate days when the offer expires and separate prices for each album which can be selected one at a time.
Is it possible you're considering the iTune + option which does work in batches of songs (at least it always seems to) ?

  • I just updated itunes on my mac and all of my icloud movies and tv shows are missing. Basically everything that wasn't on my computer isn't showing as available for download.

I just updated itunes on my macbook air and when I click on the movies or tv shows tabs in my library everything that was previously stored on icloud is now missing. This is $K's worth of stuff and I can't find any information on how to retreive it.

We are having this same issue.  We have over 200 songs that are now missing and only our most recent ones show up in our ITunes library.  Fortunately we have one phone that still has all of our music still in tact. This phone is no longer one I will be using as I upgraded to the Iphone 6, and only the most recent purchased songs remain.  The rest are no where to be found and the iTunes store shows that I would need to re-purchase.  Not sure what to do as when I tried to sync my last phone, all the songs were gone.

  • What Mac should I get for basic Photoshop usage?

I'm hoping to tap into the vast resources/opinions here.
I'm planning to get a Mac for my office. It will be use primarily for basic Photoshop usage. Maybe making some movies from iPhoto. The other usage would be normal ones like web surfing.
Please suggest a desktop Mac first, and a laptop Mac 2nd.
Which Mac model would be most cost-effective and doesn't need upgrading every year?
    Thanks a lot!
    Mavis

Mavis, the answer to your question really depends on what you mean by 'basic' Photoshop use.
Bearing in mind that Photoshop has been used by professionals in graphics and design houses for many years, typically working on hardware that is substantially less powerfull than a Mac mini, there is no reason to beleieve that even the entry-level Mac can't sucessfully be used for this kind of work, and those who suggest otherwise simply haven't tried it. However, there are some things that you need to keep in mind when using this software: the first is that Photoshop runs better the more memory you have, the second is that Photoshop files can require large amounts of storage, and the third is that the most recent version tends to place heavy demand on the processor - meaning that the faster the processor the better it runs.
Thus, any Mac you buy for Photoshop use should ideally be equipped with 1Gb RAM rather than any less. You should also consider getting either the largest internal hard drive you can, or an external firewire drive for extra file storage.
A Mac mini with 1.42GHz processor and a 1Gb RAM upgrade would certainly be sufficient, even for fairly demanding Photoshop work. The internal 80Gb drive for that model would give you a reasonable amount of space for files, though you would be wise to add a larger external drive too if the work you are doing is at all crucial. The same system would also be capable of your iPhoto work too. If your use is more casual, then the 1.25GHz mini would be enough, but again you'd need the 1Gb RAM upgrade.
If your intended use is more at the commercial end of Photoshop use, then the chances are that even though a mini would be sufficient, you'd be better with an iMac or G5 tower, simply because for pro-level work, these systems are faster and permit smoother and more productive workflow.
It also has to be said that no Mac will need upgrading each year, unless your level of use or your needs of that system change dramatically. A system you buy today will remain just as functional into the future. In other words, the best way to minimize the risk of having to upgrade in the forseable future is to work out exactly what you want the system for and buy a system that meets your present (and projected future) needs.

  • I just ran iTunes match on my library and only 31 out of 1570 songs loaded

New to forums and mac, so not sure if I am doing this right but seems to be my last resort for support on my apple products according to Apple.  Having a multitude of problems doing just basic things on my mac and not even sure where to turn.  I have a mini and ipad and synched them last night so now ALL my music and ALL my photos live on my ipad now and it is FULL.  Thought I would lighten the load on my ipad by subscribing to iTunes Match so the music would reside in the 'cloud' but after iTunes chugged on through the night last night, only 31 songs of 1570 song library has the little cloud symbol.  Was told by Apple that as soon as I get them formatted correctly it should all work like magic.  Not a clue what I need to do.  Can anyone help?

    Hi,
    I don't think you're crazy.
I think that you have fallen into the same trap as many other posters.
First and foremost, you can only use Match on a computer that has itunes with your music on your hard drive (or extenal drive). If you had not applied match to your old computer, you have lost your music except for songs previously purchased from the itunes store.
If you have a back up, you can restore the music to your new computer.

  • I just updated Itunes to the newest version and now my entire song library is saying 'can't play this song because original file can't be found'.  ***??

I have no idea what happened!?  I just updated Itunes on my macbook and now my entire song library won't play.  When I click on a song it says it can't play because it can't find the original file.  How is this possible?  The original files are on my computer.  I just upgraded!! HELP!!

The only thing I can think of is that you deleted these files off your computer without using iTunes to do it. Or maybe you backed up your computer to a previous state to where these song files didn't exist? The last one doesn't even make sense to me unless you used Time Machine to do it. But those are the only things I can think of.

  • I just upgraded iTunes to version 11, how do I get rid of shared music on my computer?

I have two computers in my house: my dad's, which is basically the family computer, and my personal one. I just upgraded iTunes to 11 only to find all the music on his computer is on mine as well, even though it wasn't there before. All of these new things have little cloud icons in the corner. I really don't want this stuff on my iTunes, but I can't figure out how to get rid of it. I've tried deleting it to no avail, and I can't find any way to turn off the Cloud sharing. Is there any fix for this, or will I just have to downgrade to 10.7?

You want all music on your iPhone removed from the iPhone?
If so and you have Sync Music selected under the Music tab or setting for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, deslect Sync Music under the Music tab or setting for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes followed by a sync.

I can also see some of my recorded music in the itunes library but can't play them - there is an exclamation mark next to each track. Basically I can't use itunes - is the only option remove and replace? Thanks in advance

Visibility of the Podcasts section is controlled from within the Edit > Preferences dialog.
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
    Missing tracks
Typically this can happen because a file or folder is accidentally shunted to the wrong location. iTunes can also get confused if it expects to be talking to an external drive which isn't there. If will often reset the default media folder location and may have trouble finding files in the old folders.
Select one of your tracks that is missing in action. Press CTRL-I to Get Info. Cancel when asked to try to locate the file, then look at the location given on the summary tab. This where iTunes thinks the file ought to be? Now find out where it actually is. Post back the two locations for comparison. I should be able to give you some steps to reconnect everything once I can determine which of the things that might have gone wrong is most likely in your case.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • Just downloaded itunes - where are my previous purchases?

Hi, I just downloaded itunes on my PC. I have purchased many songs from itunes in the past. (However, the computer from which I made those purchases got refreshed.)
Anyway, I'm not sure what to do to see my purchases in iTunes. I have logged in. I have authorized the PC. (Currently, it is the only computer authorized.)
I don't see a Purchased folder. Why not?
If I go to Store->View my Account, I can see my recent purchase history. So why aren't those purchases visible in the folders?
    Thanks!

Your purchases will only be where you put them.  They do not magically appear on a new computer.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backcup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup , not good, then you can redownload some itunes purchases in some countries:

  • HT5637 I have just joined itunes match and want to know what I do now?  Do I delete all music on my iphone and how do I then see the music that's stored in the cloud?

    Hi
I have just joined itunes match and want to know what I do now.  Do I delete all the music on my iphone and ipad and if so how?  Once I've done that how do I find the music on the cloud on my phone/ipad?

Go to Settings > General > Usage, select Music, then Edit. There will be a delete option there. It may take a few minutes to delete if you have a large collection on your iPhone.

  • HT1338 JUST UPDATED ITUNES AND IS ERRATICALLY WORKING

just updated Itunes software and it is behaving erratically , I keep getting the spinning color  wheel and Syncing to my Ipad is taking forever, I have the Mountain Lion software installed , is it compatiable with the new Itunes update?

When updating or restoring some iPods via a usb connection, it needs to be plugged into power via the charger to complete the process, and this is why you see this icon displayed.
It's also why older iPods that required this step were supplied with a power adaptor as standard.
You may be able to complete the process via a car charger, or via a powered firewire port on the computer (with the required 6 pin cable of course) if you have access to either of those. Or maybe visit an Apple store if one is nearby.
    Or you can try this.
    No power adaptor? Try this.
Other than that, your iPod cannot be used until you complete this process.

  • I just updated itunes to 11.1.3 on my laptop and now it won't open. It does not respond to trying "safe mode" either.

I just updated itunes to 11.1.3 on my laptop and now it won't open. It does not respond to trying "safe mode" either. Anyone have an idea as to what to do?

I just uninstalled it and am waiting for it to reinstall. I sincerely hope that I have not lost everything that I worked on so hard. Now that mobile me is gone, I have not been able to go between devices to transfer things. I was merely trying to take a document I had worked on and open it in pages, but it said my version was too old. When I updated, it wouldn't load. Now I cannot do anything. I hope that the reinstall fixes it without losing everything. Please advise!!! Yes, I am in panic mode.

I just installed iTunes on my new laptop.  When I click on the desktop icon I receive a pop up that says "The file iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes".  I have no idea what this means or what to do about it.  I can't even find a file on my computer like the one referred to in the pop up.  I am currently considering keeping my old laptop if it is the only way for me to continue to access iTunes.  What should I do to fix this?

What version of iTunes are you using? An .itl file is something that Windows uses, or very old versions of iTunes on Mac. The library file on Macs is now .xml and has been since late iTunes 4.
Is iTunes running ok without any problems after you OK that message? If it is, then you may be able to ignore it if you can't account for why you're getting it. But make sure you take backups in case something happens in the future.
