When connecting from MB to iMac it allways fails.

  • I have an IPAD 2 that I use to view an IP camera over a Wifi network.  The Ipad is in a vehicle that leaves the Wifi range and then returns to the range.  Upon returning to the range, the Ipad has trouble connecting to the network. (30 seconds)

I have an Ipad 2 that I use to view an IP camera over a Wifi network.  The Ipad is in a vehicle that leaves the Wifi range and then returns to the range.  Upon returning to the range, the Ipad has trouble connecting to the network. (30 seconds)  The Ipad will eventually connect to the network, but by this time the driver is frustrated.  I have moved the antenna to within 20' of where the vehicle comes to a stop.  My Iphone does not have a problem connecting or reconnecting when used side by side with the Ipad.  Both the Ipad and Iphone have Otter box covers.  Has anyone run into this problem or have any suggestions?

30 seconds to reconnect to a WiFi network is not unusual, especially in an environment where other radio signals on similar frequencies are present.  Sorry about that.
You might get better times by letting the WiFi base station pick another channel.  But you might not.

  • Trouble connecting new iMac to exisiting PC/Linksys network

I just bought a new iMac and am having trouble connecting to my existing Linksys wireless network. My PC connects wirelessly fine, and the iMac connects if I use the Ethernet connection. However, it says I have "Incompatible Security" when I try to use the built-in Airport wireless connection.
My network is WEP encrypted. I use one of the encryption keys for my PC. I was using 10 128-bit hex. Is there anything special or unique I need to do for the Mac? For example, for the Mac do I also use the 10 or 26 character key, or just the "Passphrase" (as described by Linksys)? Searching the net, I have found old posts suggesting I need to use quotation marks or $ sign in front of the key, but that advice seems outdated.
BTW - I am having the same problem with my new iTouch.
    Your help is appreciated.

Thanks for posting back when you found the solution.
Just to close things up as to why this would be a problem:
WEP allows for 4 different keys to be configured. Key 1 is used to encrypt the data sent out from the device (either client or access point). When data is received, either of Keys 1-4 can match what is received.
Since OS X only uses Key 1, if Key 1 on your access point doesn't match, it won't be able to decrypt anything that the access point sends back.
The other keys are very rarely used.

  • Trouble connecting with IMAC to Windows shared files on network.

Every so often our IMAC will have trouble connecting to our file storage server (running Windows Vista). Usually we reboot the file storage server and this fixes the problem. When the connection problem occurs the IMAC can still smb into other workstations on the network, but not the file storage server. Anyone had any similar issues before? The two things that seem odd to me are 1) That the IMAC can still smb into other workstations on the network and 2) That a restart fixes it everytime.

Hi and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You are not doing anything wrong. There are compatibility issues with the way Pidgin and iChat Leopard communicate. Your options are to use another windows client (PSI for instance) or make some changes to the configuration of the ichat server (namely set the server up to use the non SSL port 5222 and plain text log in).

  • Wi-Fi has trouble connecting on wake

After putting my MBA to sleep, it consistently has trouble reconnecting to Wi-Fi on wake. In order to reconnect, I Ctrl-click the Wi-Fi icon to disable Airport, then re-enable it and Wi-Fi works. I see this issue at home and at work, two separate routers. I searched the forum and saw a similar thread but I believe I'm seeing something different because Wi-Fi reconnects without physically moving the laptop closer to my router. It's a new MBA purchased in March running 10.6.7. Has anyone else seen this behavior?

I also have this problem on my late 2010 11" MBA, both at home (DLink router) and at work (Airport Extreme). It is really annoying. I have tried deleting preferences and keys, I have deleted and recreated the connections... to no avail.
All that helps is deactivating wireless and then activating it again after a couple of seconds (it then instantanously connects without problems).
I already had a similar issue on my first gen MBA a couple of years ago and it would be really great to have this fixed... apart from this issue this machine really rocks!
    Cheers,
    Dan

  • Iphone 5 has trouble connecting to wi-fi unless signal is very strong

It has been this way for a couple of years. No problem with the home router, but when we travel anywhere, both my wife's and my iphone 5 has often failed to find and connect to wifi (such as hotels, etc.) This last time though, we were with a group, and there were people with iphone 5', 4S, 6. and a few Galaxies. EVERYBODY could connect except us. I don't think 'Resetting the Network' is the answer, because there's no problem connecting to the networks we have identified (so why erase THEM?). Any ideas as to how we might improve signal acquisition? Thanks for any help you can give me.

2 phones doing same? Hmm. Full backup on iTunes then restore as new. Try other WiFi again. May be time for new equipment if that doesn't help

  • Internet is slow/has trouble connecting

I recently ran ClamXav on my MacBook Air and it found no viruses. My computer is only a year old.
    Memory  4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3   Processor  1.3 GHz Intel Core i5   Software  OS X 10.9.3 (13D65)
However, my internet has been very slow to connect, often drops connection, and usually doesn't load all of the media. I use Google Chrome but I've tried Safari and had the same issue. My wifi always has full bars when this occurs and I don't have this problem on any other devices connected to the same wifi. Is there anything I can do to speed up my internet on this laptop?

  • My iPhone has trouble connecting when I plug in my lightning connector

Anybody else have this problem and is there a fix.

For me this is a general problem. Connecting and reconnecting frequently. When left quite still it usually stays connected, at least with new cables.
My work provides cables and hence I have the oportunity to try several, and they all show the same pattern (probably because the she-part of the plug in the phone is part of the problem).
Also the earplug sound level and quality deteriorates quickly.
I hope that Apple has refurbished the "lightning" for 5S and 5C.

  • Airport Utility has trouble connecting to my Airport Extreme

I have a home network with two airport extremes (a dual band airport extreme as my main router, and an older one I use to extend the wireless network). I also have a few airport express units that I use for Airtunes.
My network is working perfectly, but Airport Utility won't connect to my main Airport Extreme. If I click on the router inside of Airport Utility and try to modify any settings, it shows "Reading the Airport Extreme configuration ..." and hangs there. After a few minutes, it gives up.
It is the new dual band version, and it is directly connected to my Mac Pro via ethernet. I can use Airport Utility to connect to all my other routers without any problem (and all traffic has to route through my main airport extreme since my Mac Pro does not have wireless).
If I reboot my main router, Airport Utility is able to connect to the router for a few hours before it becomes unreachable again.
Its not a huge problem ... I just need to reboot it when I want to modify / check settings, although rebooting the router does disturb a lot of things on my network which is annoying (VPNs, network drives that need to be reconnected, etc.).
Other than Airport Utility not being able to connect to the router, the router seems to be working perfectly.
The router used to work perfectly, but it started doing this about 3 months back. As far as I can remember, there were no firmware / software updates that might have caused the problem ... it just started happening all on its own.

    Hi Shadow99999
Did you ever resolve your issues with disconnection between your Mac Pro and Airport Extreme? I am having a similar issue.
I have had the extreme for about 4 months and I loose access to the internet about once a month. When I try to troubleshoot the Airport Extreme it is usually inaccessible from my Mac Pro which is my wired access point. The Airport Utility times out with a network error number that unfortunately I did not write down. The light is still green but nothing seems to be working. The first time I tried plugging and unplugging ethernet wires and accessing wirelessly through a Macbook but now I just unplug the Airport Extreme and replug (a Microsoft solution with no problem resolution.) Today I had some unusual internet traffic on my DSL modem and I wanted to look at the Airport Extreme but again I was unable to get to the Airport Extreme with the Airport Utility on my MacPro. (Everything up to the latest rev. per software update.)
The lack of access between the Airport Extreme and a wired computer is really frustrating and may drive me back to my trusty five year old Buffalo Airstation. I could at least log in when I suspected there was a problem. Loss of internet access with the Buffalo was down to maybe once every 6 months to year and lock ups to wired access even rarer.
Any other thread that you found to help you resolve your problem?

  • 5c has trouble connecting to wi-fi, once it does the connection is slow

My new 5c has a hard time connecting to wi-fi and once it does it is very slow.  It takes much longer to load email, webpages, etc which results in draining the battery.  I am so disappointed in this phone, my 4s worked great but sadly was stolen so I had to get a new phone, I regret my decision to go with the 5c.

    Hey swatso34!
I have some suggestions for you that can help you troubleshoot this issue a little further:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections

Alternatively, you may need to restore the software on your iPhone if none of these troubleshooting steps resolve the issue. An article that can help you through the steps of that process can be found here:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

  • Macbook Air has trouble connecting immediately with wireless network

My Macbook Air seems takes a while to find the wireless network (but it does eventually find it). I get several "No Internet Connection" dialogue error boxes before the computer finally finds the network. How do I get rid of this and why is it doing it? My MacPro works just fine finding the wireless network.

From your signature it seems you didn't upgrade to Snow Leopard. If not, that could solve your problem. I had exactly the same issue under Leopard, but upgrading to Snow Leopard solved it completely.

  • My iphone 4s has trouble connecting to my home WIFI.

Unless im standing in my study i am unable to join my wifi network from anywhere in the house. Once i step out, i lose connection and im "unable to join wifi network". I can see my network pop up in wifi menu of the settings but when clicked i almost immediately get a message saying "unable to join wifi network".
I have had all the iphones up to the 4s and none have had this issue. Im using a netgear CVG824G modem and its cable. Currently there are laptops working fine off the wifi as well as an ipad 3.
I have tried everything i have found, reset network settings more than once, tried an airplane mode glitch i herd, i tried typing my wifi in rather then tapping it and my wifi is definitely turned on. I am open to any type of help so please if you have any idea let me know!
I highly appreciate you taking time to read this and if possible help!!
    Thanks!!!

What you're looking at right now may very well be that your WiFi chip is broke; either that, or you have a pretty unexplainable technical issue. Take it to an Apple Store if you can. Ask them if there is an issue with it.

  • My iphone has trouble connecting to a wifi range extender

I have a Virgin media wifi Hub and a TP Link wifi range extender and have intermittent connection issues.
Unhelpfully i have heard rumours that iphones and iPads don't react well to environments with range extenders.
I have checked the firmware of the extender (it's up to date).
I have checked the settings of the extender - going through a factory reset/clear all settings and initial set up - they all look fine.
The iPhone and iPad are both iOS7.0.2 and do not have any issue connecting to wifi within "well known high street coffee shops".
I've searched for any settings obvious or otherwise on the devices in order to resolve this.
    Any suggestions gratefully received.

I use an Apple Airport Extreme and two Apple Airport Express devices for my WiFi Network.  The two Apple Express devices are set up as range extenders.  This setup works well, with the exception of when I use my Microwave Oven the newer and furthest Airport Express drops the connection to any devices that were using it.  I have to unplug that Express and then the devices reconnect.  I am sharing this only to say that interference can play a part in Network issues with Range Extenders.  My newer Airport Express is a Dual Mode supporting 2.4 and 5.0 at the same time.  Any connected device capable of 5.0 will use the faster signal.
Don't know if your Network devices allow for manual Channel selection but if so you might want to try some various channels to see if that offers a reliable connection.
