MB Pro 08 power up click at DVD, HD

Strange situation--Leopard with Firefox 5 all updates. Firefox has continually had issues with a dozen tabs open, where there will be spinning ball and lots of page file (VM) thrashing, up to 4 GB or more in a session. Often Firefox would hang on quit. So Firefox was having the usual slowdown, and Activity Monitor showed maxed out processor on one side and no activity on second half. I force quit and rebooted and no start up. I pulled the battery which is fully charged and held the power button as typical. Tried most startup key combos while trying to boot. As mentioned, in sequence the DVD clicks, then HD clicks, the power light flashes a second during the clicks, and nothing. Holding the power button does the same, then about a dozen quick flashes. Could get an install DVD to load but doesn't help. Only thing left to try is Firewire boot drive or maybe reset RAM. When originally shut down, was not overheated or fan sound--but it appears Firefox memory leak issue killed an almost 3 y/o laptop!

Don't worry about the temperatures and the fan not kicking up. My 2010 MacBook Pro 13 speeds up the fans when it reaches about 75 degrees celcius. It all depends on the CPU load and temperature, nothing to worry about its normal.

  • Macbook Pro power button and dvd-r on left side of keyboard.

Ok need some expert knowledge. I've come across a 2008 macbook pro for sale. Only thing is the power button and the dvd-r drive are on the left side of the machine. Anyone seen this before?? Could it be from another country originally??

If you look at it in a mirror, it will be just fine. (sorry, but I can't resist)
As Ashka says, that is not a MBP.  Buy it if you want, but understand you are not getting an Apple product.
    Ciao.

  • My MacBook Pro will not eject a DVD following viewing.  Help?

My MacBook Pro will not eject a DVD following viewing.   Selecting EJECT
on the controller gives a message of "Supported Disc Not Available".   It is
in the drive and I need to get it out.   How might I proceed?   Thanks for any
    help you can provide.

Five ways to eject a stuck CD or DVD from the optical drive
Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:
    1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the left mouse button until the disc ejects.
    2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.
    3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.
    4. Press COMMAND-E.
    5. If none of the above work try this: Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following:
         /usr/bin/drutil eject
If this fails then try this:
Boot the computer into single-user mode. At the prompt enter the same command as used above.
To restart the computer enter "reboot" at the prompt without quotes.

  • Mac Pro power supply failure

Anyone have any luck repairing A 2008 Mac Pro power supply? There are two fried resistors on the board and would like to save the 300 USD for a new supply.

    Macitguy.com,
Image was not taken at starting, but to be sure here under are values taken 30 mn after starting with antivirus scanning from the start:

My MacPro is 2006 model 4 cores.
AMHA MacPro cooling system is (almost) like this:

If I were you I'll check that nothing slows airflow around DVD location and I'll install Fan control to increase others fan speed (orange and red airflows on the drawing, mines are running at 1500/1600 rpm) this should help the whole system (AMHA), it doesn't cost to make a test.
    Peloche,

  • How to minimize Final Cut pro with one click?

I know you can minimize windows (canvas, timeline, etc) by pressing Command+M 4 times but how to minimize Final Cut pro with one click?

Hold down the Option key and click the Minimize button on any window, all windows in the app will minimize.
Don't know what or if the reverse of this is - so although it's a one click minimize all windows, I believe you have to re-enlarge them one at a time.

I need to download a DVD and some CDs to my new MacBook Pro but alas, no CD/DVD drive. What now?

Use an external optical drive such as Apple's USB SuperDrive, or one inside another computer.

  • Macbook and Macbook Pro Power Adapters

Is it safe to use a Macbook Pro power adapter in a Macbook and vice versa?
I have just noticed that the MBP's adapter is 85 watts and the MB's is 60 watts. I hadn't realised they were different.
My wife and I share each others adapters all the time (she has a Macbook). Will this be damaging either of the laptops?

Shouldn't cause any problems. The main issue will be that the 60w adapter won't provide enough juice to both charge the MBP battery and run it if there is much of a load so I'd avoid using the 60w on the MBP for anything other than charging the battery whilst not using the machine - sudden power shortage could be painful for the machine.
    Best of luck.

You'll certainly need a new logic board.
If I were you, I would take the machine into your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them evaluate the problems and give you an estimate for repair. If you're out of warranty, be prepared to pay a very high price to get your computer repaired.
    Good luck,

  • My Macbook Pro always ejects any CDs, DVDs that I insert. How do I remedy this?

My Macbook Pro always ejects any CDs, DVDs that I insert. How do I remedy this?

Before taking it for repair, try a drive cleaning disk. They are US$5-15 at most computer, electronics, and office supply stores. Slot-loading drives get dirty and the inexpensive cleaning disk is the logical step before spending a lot of mony.
Case in point: A friend has an older MacBook Pro and its optical drive had not worked in years. When he took the computer to an AASP for servicing another issue, he asked about replacing the optical drive. The Service Provider said it woul cost US$140 paarts + labor to install a new one--something my friend could not afford at the time.
I loaned my friend my drive cleaning disk and now his original drive works like it did when new.

  • Macbook Pro 15" Need to Replace DVD drive

I was wondering where I could go to either purchase a new Matshita DVD-R UJ-857 drive for my macbook pro, or a comparable slot-DVD drive. It is out of warranty, and I would rather install it myself to save cash on installation, because I am knowledgeable in computer building. Will apple sell this part, if not, where can I go to purchase it/what drives will fit properly?
    Thanks!

    This is a compatible drive.

  • Hello, my 2012 MacBook pro makes a clicking noise

Hello, my 2012 MacBook pro makes a clicking noise in the bottom right of my computer. The empty space below the keyboard where you are supposed to rest your hands. I press it and it sounds like something is snapping almost.

You should also ask this in the MacBook Pro forum. This is the forum for the 13” white and black plastic MacBooks that were discontinued in 2010. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.
