MB Pro a1226 and SATA-II

Hello to everyone!
I've recently bought this drive:
HDD 500 Gb SATA-II 300 Hitachi Travelstar 7K500 (HTS725050A9A364) 2.5" 7200 rpm 16Mb
AFIK my laptop doesn't support sata-ii. Is there any chance to make these 2 devices work together? I mean I heard that some motherboards that do not work with sata-ii detect HDDs as sata. Or even there might be some kind of jumper on HDD?
Looking forward to hearing from you guys

still the same
Suggests hardware issue. First suspect is the adapter you're using.
gotta try to install mac os to the new HDD from the very beginning
If installing OS from install discs via optical drive works fine, but the I/O error shows up again when you try to restore data from your old HD, there's a hardware issue, either with the adapter or the old HD. If there are problems installing an OS via the optical drive, may be an issue with the new HD.
Also run Repair Disk on the new HD.

    Hey all!
New ID as i'm rubbish at remembering passwords/log on emails....
I've got a Satellite Pro A10 that needs a new keyboard - there's loads floating around on ebay for the Satellite A10 - but not the Pro - now i'm almost 100% it'll be the same keyboard - right? the 'Pro' bit just usually denounces extras bits and qhizzy things - but basically they're the same hardware platform underneath - i.e. the same keyboard between the Sat A10 and Sat Pro A10
    Anyone?
:D thanks in advance for letting me sleep at night!

I agree with you. There is no much difference and the notebook construction is the same.
I am 100% sure the keyboard is the same.

  • I have a Mac Book Pro A1226 and I want to install Windows 7 Ultimate. I have boot camp 3.0, I have a Mac Book Pro A1226 and I want to install Windows 7 Ultimate. I have boot camp 3.0

Please help.  I have a Mac Book Pro ( late 2007- A1226)  that I want to install Windows 7 ultimate on.  I have boot camp 3.0 and I can set up the partition but when i click start installation, I get a black screen ( for a few seconds) then it goes to a grey window, which alternates between flashing the apple symbol and a circle with line through it.  It will do this for however long I let it go for.
Would it be better for me to buy parallels software than keep persisting with this avenue.

First, make sure you ONLY have the wired Apple Keyboard and wired mouse connected.
You should have BootCamp Asst. 3.3 or 3.4 now I believe is the latest version.
Do you have the W7 disk or ISO download version?
When does the flashing start, after Windows 7 sets the NTFS formating and you click to install?

  • Macbook pro A1226  black screen HEEEELP

Hi i have macbook pro A1226 and i had bad GPU ( some colors were not supported any more , there was no black screen )  so i replaced old with new logic board but now screen is black after turning on...if i look closer or bring flashlight close i can see everything in background and its working fine...i tried to hook it up to external monitor but it is black also....any help is more than welcome!!

Time to take a trip to the Apple store genius bar for a free diagnosis.  It could be a faulty GPU, faulty display or a bad display connection.
    Ciao.

  • On my Macbook pro 15 2011, System Profiler is suggesting that it uses SATA III for the hard drive and SATA II for the Optical Drive.  Is that true?

On my Macbook pro 15, 2011, System Profiler is suggesting that it uses SATA III for the hard drive and SATA II for the Optical Drive.  Is that true?

That is correct. The tech specs indicate:
    Hard Drive Interface
    6.0 Gbps Serial ATA (SATA)
    Optical Drive Interface
3.0 or 6.0 Gbps Serial ATA (SATA)

  • Mac Pro 4,1 SATA for OS and RAID SAS for data?

Hello, Can I setup a new Mac Pro with two SATA drives for the OS and install a RAID Card and two SAS drives for data?
Or do they all have to be SAS or SATA drives in the machine? Meaning I cannot mix SATA and SAS.
    Thanks,
    Dean

Even MacWorld magazine liked the OWC drives.
If you are serious about using an SSD drive, they are generally too small for, and do not give enough speed improvement to, extensive documents, movies, pictures, Tunes, and so on. You should consider moving the /Users directory to a traditional Hard Drive.
Blocks on SDD drives can sustain a finite number of writes, thought to be in the neighborhood of 10,000. Some Cloning software is thought to do an abusive number of writes during cloning, so it may be better to install the System from scratch onto your new SSD.
I am an advocate of occasionally consolidating free space on an SSD drive and Zeroing it. Since these drives tend to be organized internally as really big blocks, eliminating small "free" blocks (with leftover data in them) may allow some drives to do fewer slow Read-Modify-Write cycles. This practice is, at best, controversial.

  • K8T Neo2 (K8T800 Pro) and SATA problems

I've used Live Update to update my board and SATA controller, but in device manager, I'm informed that the SATA controller cannot start.  During startup, I have no option to configure my two new SATA drives, and there's no evidence that my system detects them whatsoever.
I have a 40GB IDE drive running xp, and right now, I just want to use the two additional  Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250GB drives for extra storage.
Can anyone help me with this?

limit your SATAII HDD to SATA1 mode, via jumper.
use drivers from MSI web: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_detail.php?UID=608&kind=1

  • HT1386 I had to replace the corrupted hard drive in my macbook pro recently, and after I did so I did a full factory software & application restore.  Now my iTunes says my iPhone 5 is no longer an authorized device.  What should I do?

I had to replace the corrupted hard drive in my macbook pro recently, and after I did so I did a full factory software & application restore.  I had to rebuild my iTunes Library by dragging my music folders in my iTunes Media into the iTunes Application and rebuild my playlists manually.  After plugging my iPhone 5 into the computer USB, it immediately recognized my iPhone 5, showing: last backups, space left on my iPhone & all options available.  I then checked the box to manually manage music etc.  The problem I am now having is that when I actually try to drag music from my iTunes to my phone a prompt comes up saying that my iPhone is not an authorized device.  What should I do?  Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!!

    jrmetzger,
iOS runs on iPads and iPhones; OS X runs on Macs.
Given your situation, I’d highly recommended that you purchase a SATA-to-USB adapter, so that you can test both your old disk and your new disk externally, since it might be that the problem is due to a faulty internal SATA cable rather than due to faulty disks.

  • Macbook Pro error and need to know about back up.  Urgent!

    Hi guys
I hope you can help. I'm a mac newbie but have a problem here. I have a macbook pro 15.4, the latest unibody one. I have only had it for a couple of months and now it will not restart... It crashed downloading emails and then now never gets past the apple logo with the spinning thing below. It keeps restarting by itself but no joy...;(
Anyway, I read around and tried everything I could find. Safe mode doesn't even start and then in the hardware test mode (hold 't' down) I ran the simple test no problems then the extended test and I ws given this error: 4HDD/11/40000004: SATA(0,0)
I'm guessing hard disk issue. DO I will go tomorrow to the local service centre here in Bangkok (that will be an experience I am sure ;)) but my issue is I don't have any back-ups. The reason is I back up to my time machine from my other mac, an iMac so I didn't worry about the MacBook Pro.
The question is how I back up now or even batter would be if I can back up the iMac saved back up to my Macbook Pro later after it's fixed as they are both running identical data and programs etc...
Is that possible or is the iMac back up not compatible with my MacBook Pro?
If yes, how will I restore the MacBook Pro later and what will I have lost if anything?
If no, what do I do now before I go to the service centre?
Sorry for the longwinded expose but I guess you get my drift now.
I am assuming that this is a repair job in any case or is their a way of fixing a 4HDD/11/40000004: SATA(0,0) error???
Thanks in advance for any help on this...
By the way, both my macs were fine until they downloaded the latest safari version and then both went haywire. I went back to the older version and the iMac is fine but the MacBook Pro has never been happy since. Not sure if this is the rot of the problem or I am just unlucky as this is a brand new machine...
    Cheers
    Paul

    See http://www.apple.com/support/leopard/install/ for more info.
As for data if you dont have a backup of the data before your Macbook Pro crashed you may not be able to recover it. If you do have a recent backup of your Macbook Pro on your time capsule you should be ok.
I always push for both onsite backup and offsite backup to prevent issues just like this. But it all depends on the value of the data you are backing up.

  • I have a Mac Book Pro A1226 - can i install Windows 7 on this via boot camp

I have a Mac Book Pro (A1226 -late 2007) and I want to run Windows 7 Ultimate on it via Boot camp.   I am currently running Mac OS X 10.6.8  with Boot camp 3.0.    For some reason I can't seem to install Windows 7 through Boot camp.  Can I even install it on this computer?  Would I be able to run Windows 7 on this computer if I purchased Parallels instead.
    Thanks

You should try asking in the Boot Camp forum where the Boot Camp gurus hang out. Your issue has been discussed there many times.

  • I have a Late 2011 Mac Book Pro 17" and I want to install a Samsung 840 EV 2.5 1TB.  What accessories if any do I need?

I have a Late 2011 Mac Book Pro 17" and I want to install a Samsung 840 EV 2.5 1TB.  What accessories if any do I need? I want to place my order once with all that is needed to install this equipment.

No you don't. All currently available commercial hard drives and SSDs have the same SATA connectors in the exact same place.
As to being plug and play that is up to interpretation. The drive will plug into the cable but then you have to partition and format the drive for the Mac OS X operating system and then install OS X on it or restore from a Time Machine backup or Clone from your original drive to the SSD. Those things aren't necessarily Plug & Play. Not hard, just time consuming. Some more than the others.

  • Does anyone know the maximum hard drive size for a 2007 Macbook Pro (A1226)?

I have a 2007 Macbook Pro (A1226). Is there a limit to the sized hard drive that can be installed? If so, what is the largest hard drive I can put into it? I have a 500GB HD that I upgraded to from the 320 GB that was in it when I bought it. I'm now trying to install a 1 TB or 750 GB drive, but after cloning with 'Carbon Copy Cloner' and installing it, I get the "?-folder" flashing when I start up. I'm pretty confident in CCC because if I use it to clone to another 500GB HD, it works fine. The problem only occurs when I try to use larger drives. Is 500GB the largest HD I can use in this machine? If so, can anyone point me to a spec sheet so I can be sure the next Macbook I buy can be expanded to suit me.
    Thanks in advance.
    Brian

You said:  "I've never tried the restore function in disk utility. Would that be the same as cloning the drive?
YES!  See the my old instructions below.  What you might try after step 5 is to restart you MBP holding down the Option key.  Select the new HDD icon and see if it boots.  This way you will know that the new HDD is operable.
    Ciao.
INSTALLING A NEW HDD IN A MB
    1. Make certain that you have backed up all of your important data.
    2. You will need a HDD enclosure.  One with a USB connection will do.  A 9 pin Firewire is better.
    3. Install your new drive in the enclosure and connect it to your MBP.
    4. Open DISK UTILITY>ERASE.  From the left hand column drag the new drive into the 'Name' field.  Make sure that the format is 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)'.  Click on the 'Erase' button.
    5. Click on the 'Restore' button (on top).  Drag the old drive into the 'Source' field and the new drive into the 'Destination'  field.  Click on the 'Restore' button on the bottom right hand corner.
Depending upon the amount of data you are transferring, this may take a couple hours or more.  A Firewire will speed up the transfer.  This will result in both drives having identical information on them.
    6. After the data transfer has completed, you may swap the drives.  Start the MBP and you have finished the installation.  The initial boot may take a bit longer than you are accustomed to, but that is normal.
    7. When you are satisfied that the new hard drive if functioning properly, you can erase the old drive and use it for any needs that you may have.

  • Is there any recall notices on MacBook Pro A1226 specifically for the LCD displays?

I have a MacBook Pro A1226 that the display has the color fades to b/w negative on 2/3rds of the screen but I can fix this by applying light pressure to the lower right of the screen. The last time I had a display problem it turned out the Video card had gone bad and I took it into the Genius Bar and found out the Video card had a recall on it and they fixed it for free.  I wanted to check this out before buying and installing a new display if I don't have to. I don't have time to take it to the Apple store and thought I would see if anyone knew here.  Any Ideas?

This is the only Repair Extenstion Program that affects the A1226:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
Seeing if you qualify for this one DOES mean a trip to an Apple Store or AASP as they have a specific hardware-based test they perfrom to see if the video chipset has failed.
There is one diagnostic check you can do at home to see if the chipset is toast. Open System Profiler in Applications > Utilities and, when it opens, select "Graphics/Displays" from the left-hand "Contents" pane. That should display this in the main pane )rom my A1226):
The fourth line, "PCIe Lane Width" should read "x16" as in the example. If it says anything else (usually "x1") your Nvidea 8600M GT has likely gone walkabout. Note that a proper reading does not necessarily mean your chipset is OK. The definitive test is still in the hands to the Apple techs.

  • Macbook Pro A1226 screen won't turn on

I have a MacBook Pro A1226.  The computer has been working fine, however tonight when I turned it on it made the chime booted up, and I could hear my applications running (Skype and Trillian were both making sounds), Caps Lock light goes on and off, keyboard lit up, however the screen seems to be completely dead.  No backlight, and no activity.  I hooked in an external monitor, and this made no difference.
    Any ideas?

Well, went to the local apple store...the outcome wasn't good.  The 'genious' had a 6 hour wait...I couldn't stand around there that long waiting to just talk to someone for a few mins, so that was a no go.  The sales person looked at it and said that given the age, they don't carry parts for it anymore anyway I'm not sure if this is a complete lie or not since there wouldn't have been any point for them trying to talk to a 'genious' if that wasn't the case.
Took it to another store and they were basically saying the same thing that a new logic board would cost $1200...more than what a new one is worth.
I see numerous 'repaired' boards on ebay...does anyone have any expereince with these...how long can I expect it to work for etc.  I'd like to get another year or two out of this machine if I can.
I'm hesitant on buying a new Mac at this point.  They are literally 3 times the price of a comparibly powered PC (with the same parts in it) and the new ones are far too thin for my liking and no dvd drive (which I do use)....if this one has issues, I'd imagine a new one is going to have simular issues down the road...they're just too damned thin for it to have any reasonable level of cooling in it.
I guess I'm out of luck.
Anyone know what the computer would be worth for parts...

  • [nForce] Problems with K7N2 Delta 2 Platinum and SATA

    Hi All
I have a MSI K7N2 Delta 2 Platinum with an AMD 3200+ Barton.
    I have 2 x 512mb Crucial PC3200 DDR400 RAM.
I have a Samsung 80gb SATA hard drive.
I am trying to install Windows XP Pro onto a blank SATA drive. The trouble is that I get into the Win XP Pro setup and it just doesn't recognise the drive. I have tried installing the drivers on the Flopy, but the drive just isnt recognised for me to install Win XP to the SATA drive to use as a boot drive.
I've read the advice thread, but couldn't find my problem.
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks

Thank for that. I haven't done that but I have got XP to recognise the drive to install to it.
XP went as far as going to the lovely bright XP installation screen and has installed hardware. When it got to installing the network it just froze up and stopped working.
Now I think the problem may be that I set the one SATA drive up to be RAID (striped) in the RAID config. I will disable this tonight and have another look. The thing that I would like to know is what setting in the BIOS of this mobo means that the SATA drive can be used as IDE? I don't have two SATA drives to use in RAID, so I figured that I have to get the one SATA to act as an IDE drive. I have SATA spreading disabled, but am unsure as to which of the other settings to change. Soz to keep asking!
EDIT: I sorted the RAID config thing. Fomatted the drive and re-installed XP. Once again, it just stops once it gets to the windowsesque creen. It stops at various points during the installation, sometimes at the "installing networks" bit, sometimes at the "completing installation" (after coying data). I just don't know what to do realy. Might RMA the board and go back to my trusted old Aopen AK77-600GN :-(
    Anyone any ideas?
