MB PRO Battery life!

Hello, for my battery, the system profiler says:
Full charge capacity (mAh): 3585
emaining Capacity (mAh): 3562
Cycle count: 276
Battery health: 64%
when i unplugged the MB, the battery indicator said i had 1:40 remaining.
Is this normal? should the battery last longer.
does this mean i should get a replacement from Apple?

Yes, depending on how you define 'normal'. But as long as you have calibrated your battery periodically, your battery appears to be failing prematurely. Apple extended the battery warranty to two years on all Core Duo machines (which I assume yours is based on clock speed).
http://www.apple.com/support/macbook_macbookpro/batteryupdate/
So, you should contact AppleCare of visit a Genius Bar and you should get a free replacement. Importantly you should contact them soon because the Apple spec is that a battery should maintain 80% health over 300 cycles - and you are getting close to that number.
Hope this helps...

The battery on my son's mid-2010 15-inch unibody macbook pro has a cycle count of 360 and shows its condition is "normal." What is the normal battery life on this computer? The reason I'm asking is that the trackpad is malfunctioning and he was told the battery could be the cause of the problem.

  • MacBook Pro Battery Life Draining After Updating to Yosemite

    Hi,
I have a 2011 MacBook Pro. After updating to Yosemite a few months, I have experienced a severe loss of battery life. I was averaging around 6-8 hours on a charge, and that is now down to about 3. I have reset the PRAM, etc. and SOMETIMES that will work but not always. I typically have only one program running at a time, Chrome, but sometimes it's a mix between Chrome, Windows, iTunes. But my computer usage patterns have not changed since before/after updating. The only thing I can think of is that it is caused by Yosemite.
When I check my Activity Monitor, the apps with the highest CPU usage are WindowServer, kernal_task, and Chrome Helper. I have also disabled several plugins/features of Chrome to no avail.
Has anyone experienced similar issues or have any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Is one of the 'etc.' a SMC reset?

  • OS 10.10 Yosemite and Macbook Pro battery life

    Greetings,
I have a mid-2012 Macbook Pro 15" that was getting 6-7 hours of battery life before installing Yosemite a few weeks ago during the initial public release.
Within the last week or so, if I am lucky, I now get maybe 3 hours before I'm down to less than 30%.
Twice this week, I have intentionally gone down to less than 5% before letting the laptop recharge for at least 12 hours before using it again, thinking maybe some sort of memory was being created; and it still drains power quickly.  And with the new formatting of the "about this Mac", I have not been able to locate how many cycles the battery has on record.
I'm not watching movies or gaming.  E-mail, Facebook, and web surfing.
If anyone has constructive ideas, I would be very appreciative.
    Thank you for your time.

  • My macbook pro battery life is tremendously reduced after installing lion os x

I installed Lion OS X on macbook pro 13 inch- i7
I noticed that it was 100% battery full and the remaining time was less than 2 hours.
When I was using the snow leopard, it was said 6 hours which is fine.
How to solve this problem please.
    Best regards,
    Fawzy El mawy of www.docsbank.net

Hi all, thought i share some of my battery related issues i have with Lion.
As everybody already noticed, even my battery life took a deep dive into nothing really. From steady 5 hours to 2 hours !? I use my mac a lot on battery, and i can make it through the day whitout even touching a charger. But .. now that has apparently changed.
So, what i found out after installing Lion is 3 things ..
#1 "Kill your daemons" .. after i examined the Citrix fix, which i didn't had installed i had a look at what daemons i had loaded, and found a lot of google ones. So i killed those, whenever a use chrome i just have to manually check for updates. No biggie.
#2 "Battery calculation is different" Yeah, it really is .. it seems like they changed the way the calculation is done. Its more dynamic now, and it taking in consideration more about what you're doing atm on your mac. When iam writing this my battery is at 70% and i says that i have 4 hours left. When i start to surf for example it drops to 2 hours. I did the battery calc reset, altho it got a little better but not good still.
#3 "Dynamic switching" Nasty one, it seems that after i upgraded to Lion my Dynamic switching of the GPU stopped to work. All settings was according to the book, but still i had my AMD chosen all the time, which explains the furnace i got on my lap all of a sudden. So, since by default there is no way to switch the GPU i downloaded the gfxCardStatus that did the trick for me, temperature dropped radically and my battery time went up of course.
So, now iam back to almost 70% of capacity before installing Lion, and that with doing nothing other than just install Lion !. I know there is issues with Flash, and most likely there will be a fix soon from Apple and Adobe that fixes our battery issues.
Then there is the wifi issues, that everyone seems to have in different forms and shapes, so basically Lion needs a haircut and a shave.

  • Treo Pro Battery Life

Just got my new Treo Pro and I love it.  However, the included battery needed to be charged shortly after turning it on and the full charge was completely drained in about 14 hours.  I only made two or three quick calls so it was essentially on standby all day.  Battery specs were advertised for 250 hours of standby or 5 hours of talk time.  Anyone else experiencing this?  I realize they just started shipping, but hoping someone can advise.  I'll try chatting with a tech person tomorrow.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hello and thank you for using the Palm Help Forums!
It's not so much how you use your phone that drains the battery but what else you are running on the device even when not in use.
Making sure Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are off are big battery savers.
If you have email set up on the device, make sure you set the time to automatically send'/ recieve around 10 minutes or more. If you do not set it up this way your device is going to constantly ask the server if there is new mail and this will drain your battery.
You can also check to see what programs are running by holding down the "Ok" key. This will allow you to see what programs are running and the ability to end them. Sometimes, even when you close the program, it will continue to run.
Low signal will affect battery life.
These are just a few battery saving tips. I hope this helps and I'll try to find more information for you.

  • MacBook Pro Battery Life: Linc Davis please help!

    Hello
I recently upgraded my operating system to Lion. I noticed that the battery life has changed dramatically. Before the upgrade, the battery lasted about 7 hours but now, it doesn't last more than 3 hours. I am thinking that the upgrade has something to do with it. What should I do now? I read something about recaliberating the battery but a lot of comments from the users said that it didn't help them. Do I need to roll back the upgrade and go back to Snow Leopard? If you have any suggestions or ideas, please post them.
    - What is the ideal use of a MacBook in terms of the battery life? I usually charge it and keep using it until the battery is almost empty. Is that good or do I need to keep it plugged to a power source if I am not mobile?
    - In case I format my computer and go back to Snow Leopard, what happens to all the programs that I purchased from the App Store? How can I get them back?
    Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I checked the console and here is what it showed me:

  • Late 2013 Retina Macbook Pro Battery Life

I am getting around 3-5 hours of battery life with my late 2013 rMBP with brightness turned down, bluetooth off, Wi-Fi on, forcing integrated GPU, and using safari w/out flash.
I've seen other people with the early 2013 model get 10 hours!

    Hello, raikun.
Thank you for the question.  The first thing we need to look at is the health and condition of your battery.  This first article will show you how to process this.  Be sure to test the results after each troubleshooting step processed.

  • Macbook Pro 2012 10.8.2 battery life *****!

    Good Afternoon Everyone.
This week I notice my macbook pro battery life run out of juice very quickly. Yesterday start it using it at evelenish at 50% at 12:30 was down to 7%. Today, well right now It was at 99% I'm 15 minutes into using battery down to 85%, why is my battery dying incredibly fast? Can I get tips on battery saving?
Thanks, Have a nice superbowl sunday everyone.

Runaway applications can shorten battery runtime, affect performance, and increase heat and fan activity

  • Battery Life is Very Short Recently

Hi, my MacBook Pro battery life has been really dying quickly in the past couple weeks. My MacBook Pro is new as of December, and has only gone through 107 cycles. I am only running Chrome and Microsoft Word and a couple of other applications (Mail and iCal) as occasionally needed. I have been using my computer for all of 20 minutes now, running just Chrome, and I have burned the battery down to 82% and it only has 2:13 left. I don't really know what is going on, and I like to think that I keep very good care of my computer. Any suggestions as to why this is happening? I am currently running 10.8.3 with 4GB of RAM.

While it's normal for your battery to discharge faster when running certain applications.  Having your screen set at the highest brightness settings also plays a role.
Try this - set your screen brigthness down to 50% - turn bluetooth off if you're not using it.
Google Chrome does use up your battery resources - try using firefox instead.
With all those apps you have running in the background - it is normal for your battery to discharge faster.
Open up activity monitor (have a look at my screenshot below) - under " All Processes " not my " My Processes " see what using 10% and above in your % CPU section - highlight it and hit quit process.
See if that improves your battery life.
107 Cycles is quite high for 4 month old Macbook Pro.
You can keep it plugged in when you're close to a power outlet - it will not damage/overcharge your battery if you keep it plugged in.

  • I have the 13 inch macbook pro bought in august 2011,the battery life instead of 7 hours lasts only for 3-4 hours why is this so

i was very impressed when i saw the 7 hour battery life of the macbook 13 in the store . but after using the system it only lasted 3-4 hours completely , same was the case for windows 7 pro. all the other functions of my mac are working fine.I buyed the system pin packed in front of me.I questioned the retailer about this but he had no clue what was happenig which caused this.I think this has something to do with china as my mac has been assembled in china and designed by apple californiahttp://computershopper.com/laptops/reviews/apple-macbook-pro-13-inch-2011-versio n these are the specs and the review of the system.but remove the phenominal battery life from the pros.I'm new to apple so please also provide me a location where i can get apple support in Pakistan

The 7 hour battery life is maximum that can be expected with minimal drain, but 3-4 hours either means you are using it very, very hard or the battery is bad. OR the gauge needs calibration, see below.
Turn off WiFi if you are not using it, and dim the display to also save battery power. It also depends on the applications that you are using.
One months is  awfully fast for you to lose that much battery time. If the laptop was new, then I would talk to the seller about an exchange, at least exchanging the battery.
Have you tried calibrating the battery? See
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/9036.html
for how. Please note, this only calibrates when the MBP charges the battery and resets the calibration of time or percentage of battery charge left. The lithium battery does not have a memory.

  • Yoga 2 Pro 13.3 Android Poor Battery Life

I am getting between 7 and 8 hours battery life out of my new Yoga Pro 2 13.3" Android tablet just browsing the internet with the screen set to 25% brightness (auto-brightness turned off) and no sound. The power saving screen and GPU settings are turned on and the battery usage shows over 80% of the battery is being used by the screen. I don't have many apps installed.
Seeing as how the battery should be lasting for about 15 hours, do I have a faulty battery? Or maybe a faulty screen?

Hi celare, welcome to the forum.
Yes, I've had mine for about a month.
As to the battery usage, I can stretch the battery out to 3-4 days before needing to plug it in, and recharge.
However, I'm not using it continually. I have the Display time out set to 1 minute, before it goes to sleep, and the screen goes dim. I imagine you're talking about using it constantly for your Internet browsing, without putting it to sleep, and that decreases your battery. As you said, most of the usage has been for your screen. In my Power Consumption Detail, for the Hardware, the WLAN is using more power than the Screen.
My Yoga 1380F Android get similar, if not better to, most of the Laptops I've owned, on-battery-power usage. Of course YRMV.

I have a MacBook Pro 15", with a processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7 and memory 4 GB 1333 Mhz DDR3 running OS X 10.7.2. It was purchased only a week ago and I'm noticing horrible battery issues. I have checked Activity Monitor and nothing, even while I'm browsing the Internet is using a large amount of CPU, so I'm a bit confused. I know that this is an issue that many people are facing as I can see from all the other discussions. Has anybody found a solution to this issue at this point, or has Apple released any information about an update ot fix the issue, anything at all? Just pretty disappointed since I came from an early 2008 MacBook Pro which had about a 4 hour battery life and was expecting a new Mac with 7 hours at least. Thanks everyone for the help, sorry for a question that I'm sure every is sick of.

Calibrating the battery is a slightly more specific process than Chris suggests. Instructions are here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490
It's important to follow them to the letter, paying attention to the specified wait times after charging and discharging.

Do Not post stuff about how Airplay doesnt work, because i dont have Apple TV and dont need to hear about it.

If you have an external drive equal to or larger than your internal HD, clone your internal to it with either Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper. Test the clone to make sure it's bootable. Then upgrade either one. Try it out first.
