MB Pro RD display with vertical lines / split

Hi, I hv a 15" MB Pro RD which booted up this morning with part of the display vertically split. Pic attached. Can anyone pls advise?
I'm 2 months out of warranty - any suggestions for estimates / parts / locations to do it in orlando?

The first step you should take is to make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and have them find out exactly what is wrong. The evaluation will be FREE regardless of warranty status. You will also be given a cost for the repairs which you may accept or decline.
iFixit.com and Powerbookmedic.com have parts, prices and instructions. Examine those two web sites.

My macbook pro keeps freezing with vertical lines on the screen

I have a 2010 macbook pro that has worked wonderfully until now. As of late it keeps freezing with vertical lines across the screen. To me this indicates a hardware problem, but I ran a diagnostic (restarted while holding D) and it didn't find any errors. It seems that it happens when I move or bump my macbook, leading me to think it may possibly be a disk problem, but I'm not sure how to check this. Anybody else ever have this problem or could suggest a fix for it?

You can try a pram reset, which might help with the display, but the bumoing thing is what concerns me.
PRAM reset:
Power down, power back up and hold the following keys before the start up chime.
option, command, P, R,(no commas) continue to hold these keys till you hear the start up chime 2 times then release.
Reboot see if this helps, the bumping part scares me.

Unibody Macbook Pro 17inch Display problems, vertical lines and artifacting

Hey everybody
I bought my 17inch MBP at B&H in June (week before WWDC, D'oh) and it was working fine until I came over to Ireland to work on a editing job for the summer, as soon as I attached it via mini display to a second monitor I started getting artifacts and vertical lines in certain shades and colours on the macbooks display, its gradually gotten worse so much so in fact that it is nearly unusable.
I have seen the thread about the firmware update, but my computer is already up to date with that but it still has this problem, I contacted apple and was told to take it to the apple store and the genius bar in Belfast, as helpful as the rep was he told me it would be two weeks for a repair, by replacing the logic board. Which I just can't do as I've only got three weeks left on the job and need my mac every day. I've searched and it seems no-one is having this problem except me since the firmware update, but clearly my machine still has problems.
Never had a problem with all my previous Mac's but I'm close to tossing this in the bin please help because if I can't get this solved I will have to move to PC and install my copy of AVID on it as this is the only other available computers at this production company.
What to do? Has anyone else had this problem recently? Or know of a fix for it? I've tried everything downloaded the firmware told me its already installed, switched the graphics displays etc etc

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
It sounds like there is a hardware problem of some sort with the graphics chips, and the only real fix is going to be to replace the logic board. So at some point, you will have to send your Mac off for repair.
In the US, you can sometimes arrange to get a loaner. You might ask if this would be possible where you are, since the repair is going to take so long.
Unfortunately, I don't know of anything that would fix your problem other than a repair.

Hi. I recently updated to software vesion 2.0.2 and started to notice the vertical lines you describe. I had never noticed them before. I have spoken to Apple iPhone tech support and they say they have never heard of this issue. They have asked me to do a restore on the phone via iTunes to see if it is a software or hardware issue. If it still happens after restore they told me to go to Apple store to see about a possible replacement. I have tried the resore and so far I haven't noticed the lines but it is early days.
By the way I have noticed the lines appear randomly and sometimes when I receive an email and get the audible signal I can see them.
Let me know how you get on if you try to restore iPhone.

This appened when i was talking with a friend on Skype, by error i did click on the video and slowly the vertical lines appeared and covered all ma desktop. Je pense que ce bug est survenu lorsque j'étais sur Skype avec une amie et que par erreur j'ai cliqué sur l'image de la vidéo et peu à peu les lignes sont appurues et tout l'écran est envahie par ces lignes.

Hello, sounds like Video card and/or heat problems.
Have you blown the dust out lately? Let it cool for an hour or so.
Get Temperature Monitor to see if it's heat related...

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode).

Hi Siva,
The default behaviour of Top Level Navigation is if there are lot of items in it, it tends to bring a scroll bar to scroll across the items.
Did you tried reducing the font size of the TLN items in the themes, so that they can try and fit in the page without scroll bar appearing.
Otherwise you can consider having hover menu, which will display all items on hovering the parent node. Have a look at the blog for more information

I have designed an ALV report with Hierarichal display with multiple line headings...
When i change the layout of this report,the headings which we enter manually will not take effect.The column we can hide in the report using the layout management.But the heading remains the same since it was written manually in top of page.

Do you use REUSE_ALV_HIERSEQ_LIST_DISPLAY? Why do you write heading manually? You can use IT_FIELDCAT parameter for defining a field catalog.

This is not necessarily 100% correct at the current time.
As Dropbox is encouraging people to set it up for automatic uploading of photos they gradually increment your space as you load more pictures for free at the current time.
You do start with a fixed 2 GB but if you upload photos you will be awarded more free space.
You can also open a free account with Flickr - you may have some upload limits per day but you can upload pictures there.

I don't remember) and it turned from grey (no apple symbol) to blue blank. Then third time, grey followed by blue with vertical lines, not blocky clear lines that you can see if you are close to it.

I-Mac crash with vertical lines down the screen

My i-Mac is about 4 years old, running OS-X version 10.8.2.
About 2 weeks ago my system suddenly crashed and the whole screen was filled with vertical lines - alternate blue and white.
Yesterday the same thing happened, except that the vertical lines were alternate red and white.
Both times I turned the desktop off, left it for a minute or two, and then turned it back on again. The system then booted up normally and I was able to access all my applications as normal.
To date my i-Mac has been very reliable but I am a bit worried that this 'crash' problem has now occurred twice. I have kept the operating system up-to-date and am running OS-X 10.8.2.
Could anyone please tell me why this problem is occuring and how I can fix it?

What do you think could have caused the card to develop this fault? (Currently only internmittent, but it presumably will get worse)?
I will back up my files and go and see my local Apple Store as you suggested, but do you have any idea how much replacing the graphics card on my 24" machine would cost??
