MB Sleep Error

90% of the time when I put my MB to sleep, and open it a few hours later, the keyboard will light up but the display won't turn on. So I have to Manually turn it off and then back on, and a massage pops up that says "Mac OSX quit unexpectedly, and was unresponsive when system was rebooted" Can I fix this?

Should I try reinstalling iPhoto?
Yea, try reinstalling iPhoto and hopefully that'll work.
To answer your question from the other post, according to [apples support document|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1545]
"If there are things in the Previous System folder that aren't in the new System folder, copy them over or reinstall. If you're not sure what some items are (and don't seem to need them), leave them in the Previous System folder. Once you're comfortable that you've got everything you need out of it, you can delete the Previous System folder (or leave it around if you have enough free disk space)."
So get the info you want off the previous system that is not on your current system, get that off there and you can delete the folder.

  • HT203254 Macbook Pro Sleep Error

    I need to know what to do with my mac. When I first received it I had no issues but after about 3 months use, I began seeing problems. After letting my mac fall asleep, when I attempt to wake it up the screen will momentarily light up rendering the cursor visible and the keyboard will proceed to light up as well. Every time a key is clicked after that the error tone will persist. The only way to get out of this "freeze" is to manually shut off the computer and turn it on again. However, the next time it goes to sleep it will proceed to do the same thing. What is wrong? What do I do?
    OSX 10.8.2
    2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
    8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Serial Number: C02J*****V30

    Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
    Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to bare metal from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
    *An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

    Use Software Update or the OS 10.6.8 combo update to update your OS.  Also, update everything SU has to offer for your computer as well as your USB connected devices.  When done, repair permissions and restart your computer.

  • HP Pavilion, Monitor going to sleep error

    When i start up my HP Pavilion, It shows a screen with no vga signal, and then it says "Monitor going to sleep" I do not know what to do? Please help.

    I am having the same problem where my Desktop turns on, nothing comes up on the monitor and it goes to sleep fairly quickly, and the fan just keeps running in the tower and is louder than normal.  The keyboard does not seem to be responsive and I checked to make sure my monitor is working.  How would a bad graphics card make the fans keep running like that?

  • Persistent Wake-from-sleep Error (!)

    I have thoroughly searched both google and these forums for help with this problem, and although it appears to be a common one, a solution has not yet been found :
    Every so often and very randomly, my PB G4 12" will not properly / fully wake from sleep. When opening the lid, the computer makes all the normal noises as if it were waking, but the screen does not go on. Caps lock / Num lock keys behave as though the system were awake, and attached USB mouse is also lit up. All other aspects of the system are completely unresponsive - 'coma' (!!). The only way out of the lock-up is a force restart - i've had to do that at least 5 times this week.
    I have tried EVERYTHING (i can think of!) to try to fix this problem :
    reset NVRAM
    reset PMU
    reset PRAM etc, etc. etc!
    trashed all caches etc..
    reinstalled OS (twice!).
    checked system with both TechTool Pro + Apple Hardware Test - both report that system is in perfect working order.
    I've also tried trashing the PowerManagement prefs (some users have report some success in trying this).
    No effect.
    I didn't want to call tech support unless absolutely necessary, because i'm sure anyone who's called before has been 'helpfully' talked through repairing permissions etc...
    Does anyone here have any ideas???!

    Forgot to mention that this morning i checked logs after restarting and found this entry:

  • Mac Mini sleep error

    I just recently got my mac mini repaired and now I cannot get it out of sleep. I have to shut down the entire computer and reboot it.  Is there any way I can fix this?

    Is it booting in Verbose Mode I wonder?
    Open Terminal and paste this in...
    sudo nvram boot-args=""
    Hit return & enter an admin password which will not show as you're typing, hit enter again.
    Have you done a PRAM reset, CMD+Option+p+r...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
    Hold those 4 keys ubtil you hear the 4th chime, takes a while.

  • Sleep Error

    For some reason my computer frooze when I tried to sleep it. I quit all applications as usual before selecting sleep, and for the 2nd time ever. The computer screen went black like it does before it switches the monitor off. However it never switched the monitor off. I had to hold the power button down to shut the computer off (which I have a feeling is really bad for the hard drive).
    This is very frustrating because I have to choose between letting my computer stay in between sleep and on. vs. turning my computer off abruptly.
    Image of what screen looked like:
    http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/8371/dsc02843s.jpg

    hello,
    Try this hint : It was the solution for me.
    Launch Terminal App.
    After you launch Terminal, the first step is to determine which sleep mode your Mac is currently using (in case you wish to go back to it). You can both view and change the sleep mode using the Unix program pmset. To see your current settings, type pmset -g | grep hibernatemode. You should see something like this:
    pmset -g | grep hibernatemode hibernatemode 3
    Great, so your machine is using mode 3, whatever that might be. Well, thanks to the documentation for the handy Deep Sleep Dashboard widget, which puts your machine immediately into hibernation mode (so you don’t have to yank all the power sources to invoke it), we can tell exactly which mode is which:
    0 - Old style sleep mode, with RAM powered on while sleeping, safe sleep disabled, and super-fast wake.
    1 - Hibernation mode, with RAM contents written to disk, system totally shut down while “sleeping,” and slower wake up, due to reading the contents of RAM off the hard drive.
    3 - The default mode on machines introduced since about fall 2005. RAM is powered on while sleeping, but RAM contents are also written to disk before sleeping. In the event of total power loss, the system enters hibernation mode automatically.
    To change your sleep mode, you use pmset again, providing the variable and value you wish to assign. So to return to the old style sleep mode (which is mode 0 from the above list), enter this command:
    sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0
    Press Return, and you’ll be asked for your password. Provide it, and your sleep mode has been changed. Note that restarting is not required for these changes to take effect.
    Recover some drive space
    If your machine was previously set to mode 3 (or 7 ) and you’ve reverted to the old style sleep mode, you’ve got one more step to take: recover the drive space used up by the copy of your system’s RAM, which was created the last time you slept the machine prior to making the switch. In Terminal, enter these two commands, pressing Return after each and providing your password when asked (in my case it didn't ask for my password again after changing the sleep mode)

    In my case it released almost 8GB of disc space. I guess it will closely amount the amount of RAM your system has. Ironically, by trying to make a "super system" by paying $2,000 for 8GB RAM plus the SSD drive, it might have been to much RAM to copy and recover to the SSD every time the system goes to sleep and wakes up...as they say "the best is sometimes enemy of the good".

  • HP Desktop IQ506 sleep error

    My system:
    Model #: IQ506
    Product #: KQ437AA-ABA
    Serial #:[Personal Information Removed]
    Software Build #: 83NAv6XrA5
    Service ID #: 011-410
    PCBRAND: Pavilion
    Had to have my system recovered.  Using Vista.  When my computer goes to sleep mode and I move the mouse to wake up, I first get a black screen which gradually lightens and returns to whatever was on when sleep started.  However, the HP wireless mouse pointer freezes for about 30 seconds before I can resume.  Happens every time.  It's not just a mouse problem because of the screen delay.  Unwaken used to happen immediately.  I know I can delete and reload the mouse driver.  Any suggestions?

  • HP Monitor going to sleep on start up

    Ok, I've dealt with this problem long enough. I have an HP pavilion Elite, hpe 400f. Monitor worked great on it, then one night while I was checking my email, the picture went scrabled, and ever since I am faced with a "Monitor Going to sleep" error on start up. I can not get into my settings or do anything.
    It does not work on other working monitors, I tried a whole new set of cables and when that did not help, I went and bought a new graphics card. That did no good either. But I can not install the drivers until I can actually see how to do it.
    So what now? Nothing HP told me works. I am about to go crazy with this.  I've begged HP to help me for a year off and on to no prevail.
    Can you PLEASE help me?

    I have a 27" iMac Late 2013 running Yosemite.  I am trying to stop the internal disk from spinning down or going to sleep.  It is a Seagate 3TB ST3000DM001.  If anyone any ideas on what I need to accomplish this please let me know.   I do not understand why they would set it up to spin down the disk.  All it does is shorten it's life and replacing a drive in these systems is not that easy.  The changes below are what I have done so far.   Thanks in advance!!

    The "Put hard disk to sleep when possible" is not checked in Preferences Energy saver.
    The pmset command output is as follows.
    $ sudo pmset -g

    I reset my "disksleep" value to 0 but saw this message.  I always thought this was just informative type message.
    $ sudo pmset -a disksleep 0
    Warning: Idle sleep timings for "UPS Power" may not behave as expected.
    - Disk sleep should be non-zero whenever system sleep is non-zero.
    $
    I tried using the old "spindown" setting instead of "disksleep" but got the same message about "system sleep" is non-zero.  Maybe it is telling me something.
    $ sudo pmset -a spindown 0
    Warning: Idle sleep timings for "UPS Power" may not behave as expected.
    - Disk sleep should be non-zero whenever system sleep is non-zero.
    Even though I could not find a “system sleep” or “sleep” setting in the pmset man page I thought I’d try both.  The one that seemed to work was setting “sleep”.
    $ sudo pmset -a sleep 0
    $
    I tried to see the value for sleep but it seemed not to exist.  Which is strange because it accepted the command without an error.
    $ sudo pmset -g sleep
    Error: unhandled argument sleep
    Usage: pmset <options>
    See pmset(1) for details: 'man pmset'
    $
    What is interesting is that now when I run the command to set "spindown" or "disksleep" to 0 it does not complain that the "system sleep" is non-zero.  Which I think is a good sign.  Well I’ll know if it fixes it in a month.
    $ sudo pmset -a spindown 0
    $
    $ sudo pmset -a disksleep 0
    $

  • Synchronising two different objects

    Hi everyone,
    I am asking for your help while i am writing an example code. I want to learn how to synchronise two differents objects.
    The first class is actually a MIDlet, which has to increase a counter and display it until the second class send a message to the midlet. At this moment, the midlet has to display the message. I am actualy thinking about adding another thread, but lets speak only about the midlet and the calculator :)
    I think there is a problem in my way of thinking, that's why i am asking for your help :
    Here is an extract of my midlet code :
    public class Main extends MIDlet implements CommandListener {
        private static boolean isFromCalculator    = false;
        private static boolean displayUsed = false;
        Command exitCmd = new Command("Exit", Command.EXIT, 1);
        Command pauseCmd = new Command("Pause", Command.OK, 1);
        TextBox tb = new TextBox("Principal", "", 200, 1);
        int cpt = 0;
        Calculator calc = new Calculator();
        public Main()
            calc.start();
            tb.addCommand(exitCmd);
            tb.addCommand(pauseCmd);
            tb.setCommandListener(this);
        public void startApp() {
            process();
        public void pauseApp() {
        public void destroyApp(boolean unconditional) {
        public void process()
            // Tant que l'on a pas d'infos des deux autres threads, on compte !
            while ( !isFromCalculator )
                if ( displayUsed )
                    synchronized(this){
                        try{
                            wait();
                        catch (Exception e)
                            e.printStackTrace();
                display("Principal : " + cpt + "\n", 1);
                cpt++;
            deroute();
        public void display(String message, int time)
            displayUsed = true;
            tb.delete(0, tb.size());
            tb.insert(message, tb.size());
            Display.getDisplay(this).setCurrent(tb);
            synchronized(this)
                try{
                    wait(time);
                catch (Exception e )
                {e.printStackTrace();}
            displayUsed = false;
            notifyAll();
        public void deroute()
            if ( isFromCalculator == true )
                // Manage Calculator message
                display(calc.Message(), 1000);
                isFromCalculator = false;
            process();
        public static void setBoolFromCalculator(boolean b)
            isFromCalculator = b;
        public static boolean isDisplayUsed()
            return displayUsed;
    }And here is my calculator code :
    public class Calculator extends Thread{
        private int iterator;
        private boolean quit;
        public Calculator()
            iterator = 0;
            quit = false;
        public void run()
            while ( !quit )
                iterator++;
                // 100 Boucles maxi
                if ( iterator > 100)
                    quit = true;
                try{
                    sleep(1000);
                catch (InterruptedException e )
                    System.out.println("Calculator sleep error : ");
                    e.printStackTrace();
                if (iterator % 10 == 0)
                    if ( !Main.isDisplayUsed() )
                        synchronized(this)
                            try{
                                wait();
                            catch(Exception e)
                                e.printStackTrace();
                    Main.setBoolFromCalculator(true);
        public String Message()
            return " Calculator - Iterator = " + iterator +"\n" ;
    }May i ask your any advice ?

    Hi everyone,
    I am asking for your help while i am writing an example code. I want to learn how to synchronise two differents objects.Note that you don't "synchronize objects." You synchronize methods or blocks of code on objects (or, more properly I suppose, on their locks). This may seem like a petty distinction, but when you say "synchronize objects," it sounds like you think that you're controlling access to an object. That is not the case. If you need further explanation, let me know.

    ooops! i'm sorry. in the AboutDialog Class, it should be "super(parent, title, true)" for it to be modal.
    anyway, it seemed that posting the partial code above of the whole app is not so understandable.
    what i like to address here is that: how do i dispose or get rid of the thread-dispatched modal dialog by not making mouse clicks or any other user intervention? i wanted it to be disposed by the same thread, which dispatched it, when a certain variable value (global or local) is met. is this possible?
