Mba 07/2013 10.8.4 usb mouse jumping after sleep/wake

i have the latest macbook air 1.7 i7 8gig ram
connected to a usb3 hub by anker (proper quality)
and a dell 21:9 monitor via thunderbolt/displayport
http://accessories.ap.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=au&cs=audhs1&l=en&s=dhs& sku=210-41183&redirect=1
after mba goes sleep and wakes the mouse starts to jump while moving - making controlled working impossible.
i have to type in password on sleep/wake if that makes a difference - typing on external keyboard is fine
when i move the onscreen pointer via trackpad its the very same - so it cant be the mouse (evuoluent vertical mouse)
when i unplug the usb hub its the same problem (with trackpad)
when i unplug the monitors display port cable - problem is gone (on mba screen)
plug monitor cable back in - problem is here again.
! weird thing is - this problem does not always occur - so its hard to replicate
does anyone have an idea ?

it seems like i have  a solution
i did a reset on the monitor - reset the whole settings (via monitor menue - not on the mac or osx)
et voila
no jumping pointer anymore - at least for now - lets see if its only temporary or if that actually was the fix
maybe with the whole displayport thing the monitor talks back to the computer quite a bit. causing the computer to hic up

  • USB mouse freezes after wake from sleep.

Since the 10.8.2 update my Logitech USB mouse freezes after waking up the computer from sleep or when it goes into energy save from non use. This also happens to my brand new MBPR. I tries repair permissions and reset the smc. Any suggestions?

I get a frozen mouse (Microsoft Intellimouse Optical) on my 2012 Mac Mini running Mavericks (it did it with Mountain Lion also) when waking from sleep about 75% of the time which works again if I unplug/replug it (light is on and mouse buttons work when it's frozen, but the pointer won't move).  It does this whether I use a built-in USB3 port, a USB2 hub and now also with my new USB3 hub.
However, my 2008 Macbook Pro also has an Intellimouse connected to it when docked and it NEVER freezes when waking from sleep whether using the built-in USB2 port or a Gmyle USB3 card port.  Either way, the mouse wakes fine and it's the SAME MODEL MOUSE and SAME OSX verison.  I have no idea why the inconsistency.  It ***** because "Wake on Network Activity" FINALLY works right here in Mavericks with XBMC on my Mac Mini so there's a perfect opportunity to save some electricity.  I got excited when it woke up two times in a row with 10.9.1 and set up my sleep controls only to find it wouldn't go to sleep with the Energy Savings menu because I have an external USB3.0 3TB media drive connected (at all times).  I finally found out (through more patient testing) that once the drive spun down (possibly on its own power saving timer as I'm not sure the "Shut down hard drives when possible" setting works in Mavericks; it was messed up in Mountain Lion in 10.8.4 and even though 10.8.5 fixed it, I'm not sure Mavericks is using the same code.  It doesn't seem to shut down any faster with or without the setting on and shuts off several minutes after the computer attempts to go to sleep (on a 1 minute test setting; I think WD defaults to 10 minutes in firmware).
Anyway, once that was resolved and I saw it would go to sleep eventually once the drive spun down (it will sleep instantly if I select SLEEP from the Apple menu which I find odd if it's such a big deal that it's connected....), I thought OH BOY!  I'm all set.  Then I woke it from that sleep and found my mouse was frozen again..... :-(  What a PITA to unplug/plug the mouse every time it wakes from sleep.  It's not worth it.  I'll just have to pay the extra few bucks in electricity each month I could have saved to avoid such a freaking nightmare hassle.  Why on God's Green Earth, Apple CANNOT or WILL NOT fix their darn energy savings features is just beyond me.  Instead of spending all their time making horrible horrible ugly icon/GUI updates to iOS and making it slower and slower and slower, why don't they actually fix some darn bugs in OSX for once in their lives.... I'm starting to think I should give Windows another chance I'm so annoyed right now.  But then I think about having to run a malware program and have that program update and Windows software/security updates 3x a day and I think I can just deal with the Mini not sleeping.....
I'd like to know why Apple couldn't figure out those of us with multiple monitors would want a dock on BOTH monitors all the time either (first side-mount docks wouldn't migrate and now in 10.9.1, bottom-mounted docks won't migrate here either, leaving a dock on one monitor all the time and if that's the monitor that is showing full-screen video, you lost your dock completely while the video is playing.  They finally figured out after a full decade that having a menu bar on both screens would be a good idea, but it just didn't occur to them that the same is true of the dock.  How much are they paying these guys?  Too much apparently (or is it too little to attract talented thinkers? Nah, it couldn't be since we give them feedback and they just ignore it).

  • USB Mouse autosuspends after 2 seconds

    Hello dear Community
I have a problem with my USB mouse on my laptop. It autosuspends after 2 seconds when my laptop is on battery power. When AC is plugged in, the mouse works without problems normally. But sometimes (I couldn't find any underling rule for this behaviour) the mouse autosuspends also after 2 seconds when power IS plugged in.
    First things first:
    lsusb yields:

I thought that laptopmode tools is the reason for the problems, so tried the advice posted on this blog. I made a udev rule

    ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="045e", ATTR{idProduct}=="00cb", TEST=="power/control", ATTR{power/control}="on"
and changed my laptopmode tools settings:
    [nikolai@niko-arch ~]$ cat /etc/laptop-mode/conf.d/usb-autosuspend.conf

But I experience still the same issue (after rebooting and unplugging the mouse).
Then I tried to completely disable laptopmode tools with
    CONTROL_USB_AUTOSUSPEND="0"
    and rebooted, but nothing chances.
Maybe I am missing somthing obvious. Thanks for any hints!

    Hi!
I got the same problem with my external mouse/keyboard here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=166517
I tried what you posted, brebs but it also did not work. If I change the power status using powertop my output of your script correctly says:
    1-1.6 auto 480 Integrated Camera
    3-1 auto 5000 Elements 1042
    4-1.2 auto 480 USB2.0 Hub
    4-1.2.2 on 12 Microsoft® SiderWinderTM X6 Keyboard
    4-1.2.3 on 1.5 USB-PS/2 Optical Mouse
    4-1.2.4 auto 480 USB2.0 Hub
but only with my 91-local.rules, which are basically the same as athal postest, the output is:
    1-1.6 auto 480 Integrated Camera
    3-1 auto 5000 Elements 1042
    4-1.2 auto 480 USB2.0 Hub
    4-1.2.2 auto 12 Microsoft® SiderWinderTM X6 Keyboard
    4-1.2.3 auto 1.5 USB-PS/2 Optical Mouse
    4-1.2.4 auto 480 USB2.0 Hub
of course i did udevadm control --reload.
it's somewhat annoying to have to start powertop everytime when you boot your pc with attached external mouse/keyboard.
Note though, I do not use laptop-tools, I do the rest of my powermanagement with udev rules, too.
    [me@mybox rules.d]$ ls
    42-usb_power_save.rules 91-local.rules pci_pm.rules
    80-net-name-slot.rules disable_wol.rules wifi_power_save.rules
    [me@mybox rules.d]$ cat 42-usb_power_save.rules
    ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="usb", TEST=="power/control" ATTR{power/control}="auto"
    ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="usb", TEST=="power/autosuspend" ATTR{power/autosuspend}="2"
    [me@mybox rules.d]$ cat 91-local.rules
    ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="045e", ATTR{idProduct}=="074b", TEST=="power/control", ATTR{power/control}=="on"
    ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="046d", ATTR{idProduct}=="c051", TEST=="power/control", ATTR{power/control}=="on"
    Thanks for any advice !

  • I just upgraded to Yosemite, but now I can't get beyond the login screen on startup without using a usb mouse. After that my blutooth keyboard, magic mouse and trackpad all work okay.

In Yosemite, can't login without usb mouse.

  • Mac Mini: Mouse unresponsive after sleep.

    Hello,
I'm trying to help a friend with her Mac Mini.  For some reason the mouse is unresponsive after the computer sleeps.  I've tried using different mice to the same result.  I have tried using different USB ports to the same result.  Anything else plugged into USB is fine, its just the mice that are unresponsive.  The only way to resolve the problem is to force a restart.  The machine is stock running 10.5.1
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Rany

I just bought a Mac Mini with Leopard, using wired Mighty Mouse, and also have the problem of the mouse freezing after logout.
I have found that the mouse will freeze if the logout confirmation button is pressed with the mouse instead of return. Scrubbing the mouse rapidly across the screen while the system is processing the logout causes the mouse to freeze up almost every time.
The work-around seems to be to use return logout, and don't touch the mouse until the login screen is presented.
This problem also occurred with a Logitech mouse, which is why I bought the wired Apple mouse. (In order to isolate the problem to Apple hardware or eliminate the problem.)
I hope that this problem is fixed soon -- I've just switched over from Windows Vista and am downgrading my old Dell box to Windows XP, because I wouldn't give Windows Vista to my worst enemy!

  • Mouse freezing after sleep

After I updated to Lion, I've been having the following problem:  I will go to my computer after it has been asleep and try to wake it.  My mouse (a magic mouse) won't wake the computer but my keyboard (a usb keyboard) will.  Once the computer wakes, the mouse will not work, although I can plug a USB mouse in that does work.  However, when it wakes after doing this, I have no internet connection whatsoever.   At this point, I can't get my computer back to sleep, and the only thing I can do is turn off the computer and restart it.  Once I do that, everything is back to normal.  The last time this happened, I tried going to the system preferences to check my mouse settings before restarting.  When I did this, system preferences froze up.  Does anyone know why my Mac is doing this or how to fix it?  This happens once every week or two, and it's getting really annoying.

Make sure the batteries are fresh in the mouse.
    Try re "pairing" the mouse.
    Open System Preferences - Bluetooth.
Select the mouse in the panel on the left then click - (minus).
    Now restart your Mac.
    Open System Preferences - Bluetooth
Click + (plus) or Set Up New Dvice
(Make sure On and Discoverable are selected)
That should re "pair" the mouse for you.
If that didn't help, go to /Library/Preferences.
Move the com.apple.Bluetooth.plist file to the Trash. Restart your Mac.
    See if that helped.

  • Bluetooth mouse disconnects after sleep in W540, Windows 8.1

I have paired a bluetooth mouse and it works fine - until computer has been in sleep. After sleep the mouse does not work until I go into settings - Change PC Settings - PC and Devices - Bluetooth. I do not have to do anything, it just connects when "Manage Bluetooth Devices" opens.
I have looked into forum and swithed off the "allow the computer to turn off device to save power" in device manager for device Intel Wireless Bluetooth 4.0 + HS adapter. No effect.
I have Windows 8.1. The mouse worked fine in my older HP laptop with Windows 7.1

  • 2 x Apple TV 3 units purchased late 2013 both dropping WiFi or performing terribly after sleeping

    Hello,
I purchased these 2 apple TV units separately.  One of them was purchased from the Apple store in July 2013 and the other in September 2013.  They operate perfectly when I used a wired connection but when I use WiFi they both drop the connection randomly and perform terribly (unusable) when coming out of sleep.  When the Apple TV's are rebooted they work well again but I shouldn't have to restart them every time I want to use them after they've been sleeping.
The WiFi AP I use is a D-Link DAP-2310.  In addition to running the AP as 802.11b/g/n I've tried to configure it as 802.11b only, 802.11b/g only and 802.11n only.  This makes no difference with the performance other than in 802.11b only it's just slow all the time of course.  While configured as 802.11b/g only I turned off WMM but this made no difference.  The network performance was absolutely terrible (unusable) after they were sleeping as usual.  AFAIK with 802.11n WMM is always on since the option is greyed out and set to "yes" when 802.11n only mode is set.
My wife's PC uses WiFi and has no problems (continuously using 802.11n).  My MacBook Air uses 802.11n continuously with no down-grade to a lower 802.11 mode and has no problems.  I've ensured my WiFi channel is not being used by any other visible SSID around my house.  I am using channel 3 and no one else is.
I heard about an Apple TV 3 replacement program and originally the serial numbers that had the problem matched my unit but apparently Apple had the positions of the letters wrong and my Apple TV's no longer qualify for this replacement program. (See https://discussions.apple.com/message/21802730#21802730 for more info on that)
Not sure what my next move should be.

    Hi vazandrew,
Thanks for replying.  I downloaded iStumbler but it pretty much does the same thing as the WiFi diagnostics tools built into OSX (some information http://osxdaily.com/2012/07/31/wi-fi-scanner-mac-os-x-mountain-lion/).
I used the WiFi diagnostics tools to make sure the signal was good in the rooms where the Apple TV 3 units and also made sure nothing else was using the same channel.  It's possible, although not likely because I live in a fairly rural area, that someone has a non-broadcasted SSID on the same channel as me.  I don't think that's the case though.
I did switch channels a few times over the course of 3-4 days last week but that didn't make any difference in the performance after sleep on the ATV3 units.  I also changed from 40MHz to 20Mhz channel width as well.  These changes made no difference.  The ATV3 units still had terrible and unsuable network performance until they were restarted.  A power cycle is not necessary though - just a restart.
I've had the DLink AP for just around a year.  My previous WiFi router died so I stepped up to a Cisco RV042G and a DLink AP so if my WiFi bridge died I'd just be replacing the AP instead of a whole router.
Since the problem is with both ATV3 units its either both of them because they are similar production times *OR* the AP itself.  Since I have absolutely no problems with WiFi on my laptop or my wive's PC though that kind of leaves the ATV3 units as being misbehaving.
Maybe I'll just have to spend a few bucks on some cabling and a small switch and put wired ethernet on these suckers.

  • Keyboard and mouse disconnect after sleep mode

We've been having the following problem lately with our mini: We'll be away from the computer long enough for it to go into sleep mode. But when we wake it, we'll get the screen back and see the mouse pointer on screen, but the mouse will not work and we can't get the keyboard to input anything. There is power getting to the mouse and keyboard, but none of the input is registering.
The "solution" so far has been to do a hard reboot, which fixes everything, at least until the next time it happens. This doesn't happen every time we wake the computer from sleep mode, either.
For reference: We are using the Gateway keyboard and optical mouse that came with the computer which the mini replaced. And both of these are plugged into a USB hub, and the hub is plugged into the mini. (So I realize this could be a problem with the hub.)
    Thanks!

    LucysDad...
Is the hub self-powered (with a transformer to plug in) or buss powered? Buss powered units are no good IMHO. Must have powered ones, when it comes to hubs.
What brand? Port Authority seems to be tops in my book. I don't know whatever happened to Belkin but they went sour for Mac use in or around 2000. Something happened to Belkin's "suspend and resume" function circuits that affects as what we refer to as sleep and wake up mode. Other 3rd party hubs are a toss up so I don't even go there any more.

  • Magic Mouse Jumps After Update to 10.6.8 - Help!

Ok so I have updated my 2010 iMac to v10.6.8 and now my Magic Mouse randomly spazzes across the screen or is very slow to move. I have installed the supplemental update in the hopes of fixing the problem, also reset the PRAM and SMC, all to no avail. I've seen quite a few threads about this issue for Lion users, but have yet to come across one specifically for Snow Leopard users.
If there is one and I'm just being blind, please feel free to point me in the right direction.
If there isn't and there's something else someone with better knowledge of this kind of thing than I have can suggest, by all means let me know.
    Thanks in advance.

    Here comes the/my solution:
    Remove Sophos Antivirus
    Thanks to boojum's remarks in https://discussions.apple.com/message/15480849#15480849 !
    Don't forget to use Sophos' deinstall package: /Macintosh HD/Library/Sophos Anti-Virus/Remove Sophos Anti-Virus.pkg
Nevertheless, some settings have been re-initialized (no complete list!):
    - Dock
    - Language has been reset to English only
    - Expose & Spaces
    (- probably all personal settings?)

  • Mouse psycho after MBP wakes up

Hello all, wondering if anyone has had a similar problem or knows how to fix my psycho mouse pointer?
The problem occurs after my Macbook Pro has been to sleep by closing the lid. The mouse pointer becomes erratic and extremely jerky. It's not just the trackpad either but the mighty mouse too. Problem is solved by restarting. I am using Leopard and have been since it came out but the problem only started today.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you kind peoples...

No idea how to fix it, but mine does the exact same thing. Not every time, but frequent enough to be extremely annoying. Like you, the only remedy I've found is to restart. Not very convenient. Make sure you send feedback, maybe we'll see a fix someday...

  • Mouse slow after sleep

    Hello
    I have a 2009 2.8ghz IMAC with 2gb of RAM running 10.5.8 OS.
The mac iteself seems to be of good performance generally, but after coming out of sleep mode, more and more frequently the mouse pointer performance is slow, not reponding quickly to the inputs of the wireless apple mouse I am running (it is a 2009 model)
If I reboot the MAC, the mouse performance is restored. Looking at the mouse performance it is like the processor is labouring, but I do not see this in application performance
I do not think it has anything to do with the mouse mat I am sitting it on as performance is restored with a reboot -
I have run a directory repair (I saw this can fix certain issues) but to no avail.
    Any advice welcomed
    Thx
    Chris

If anyone else has this problem, and this solution doesn't work, here's another one you can try.
I had this very same problem, for months. It was maddening. I tried all the standard solutions in Power Options, Device Manager, BIOS, etc.
I finally fixed it by disabling the Workstation service (one of the many hidden programs that automatically run when you start Windows). The Workstation service is necessary only if your PC is connected to a private network (not the Internet) so you can share
files, printers, and other devices with other computers.  (You can read more about it here: www.theeldergeek.com/workstation.htm)
When you resume from Sleep mode, the Workstation service searches for other computers on your network. Even if they don't exist, in some cases it can still take a while to realize that and release your system back to you. If your PC is NOT on such a network,
you can safely turn it off and avoid this delay.
    1. At the Start menu, type cmd and look for "cmd.exe" in the list above.
    2. Right-click "cmd.exe", then click Run as Administrator. A command-line window appears.
    3. In the window, type services.msc and press Enter. The Services window appears.
    4. Find "Workstation" in the list of services. Right-click it, then click Stop. After the service stops, right-click "Workstation" again, then click Properties. The Workstation Properties window appears.
    5. In the "Startup type" list, select "Disabled", then click OK.
    6. Close all open windows, then log off and back on again for the change to take effect.

  • Blue Screen & mouse frozen after sleep

Problem: After my G5 PowerPC tower wakes up from sleep, the mouse will not work. After approx. 1 minute, my screen goes blue and the computer is frozen.
This all seemed to start immediately after I did the most recently iPhone software and iTunes update--don't know if its just a coincidence or not, but that's when it started.
I've done the Disk Utility fix and then a Install & Archive from the Install disk (OS 10.5), Nothing. Its still doing this crash ONLY after the computer wakes up from sleep.
Does this mean I have to do a complete fresh reinstall of the OS and start from scratch???
    H E L P ! ! ! ! ! !

I just bought the magic mouse and did the new update (Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0) for it to work on my machine. I also updated my iTunes at the same time. Everything seemed to work fine until my computer went to sleep. I woke the computer and my desktop showed up just fine, then about 5 seconds later I got the blue screen.
The only thing I have been able to do is just do a hard reset. I repaired my disk permissions and the same problem continues.
I tried the advice above (create a new user account) but that did not work.
    Any ideas...

  • USB mouse disconnects when laptop on battery

    Hello,
I am using Gnome 3.6 on 3.6.10-1-ARCH. Whenever I run my laptop on battery power, my external usb mouse disconnects after some inactivity period. If I plug it to external power source, it again starts working fine.
I suspect there must something in gnome 3.6 (weird optimization) or something to do with laptop-tools which disconnects the usb mouse after some time of inactivity to save power. How to fix this.
I referred this link, but it did not provide me way to fix this.

Update: I noticed that I had not enabled laptop mode tools so problem must be with gnome3. I have now enabled this and set my USB mouse id in blacklist, so that it does not autosuspend. Still It is getting auto suspend.

I imagine that your usb ports control is set to auto... which will suspend the device after a time of inactivity.  The solution would be to have this not set to auto... though I am not sure how to do this with laptop-mode-tools in place.  I don't use laptop-mode-tools, and it is my opinion that it actually makes things harder when you encounter things like this.  Instead of learning where the configuration for this is within /sys and then creating the necessary configuration to change it, you now learn where it is in /sys, what is changing it automagically for you, then you have to learn the intricacies of that particualr power management tool.
So although I cannot help you with yout laptop-mode-tools, the file that sets this is /sys/bus/usb/devices/usb[1-9]/power/control or /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1a.0/usb1/power without the symlinks on my machine for usb1.
Just my opinion, but with the power that comes in computers these days (for the past several years in fact), having something like laptop-mode-tools is pretty worthless.  If you just have all the settings set as though it were on "battery" all the time, I bet there would be no discernible difference.  I know I cannot tell, and then my computer probably charges ever so slightly faster because it is not set to consume more power when I plug it in.

Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause these errors. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet size modification for assistance or follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
