I have two Macs: an MBA and the new iMac.  Is there a way to have iTunes and all the content in it identical on both machines?

Yes you can copy the content to your new machine and use Home Sharing to keep the content identical
Connect the two machines via an ethernet cable it is 3 times faster than Wifi. Turn wifi off on one machine to enforce ethernet connection
In System Preferences, Sharing turn on File Sharing
    Then
Copy the music/itunes folder from the Macbook pro to the music/ folder on the imac
Both machines should now have the same library
    Disconnect H the ethernet cable
Set up Home Sharing and under Settings at the bottom of the Home Sharing page. Select to transfer new purchases.
Do the same on the other machine.
Then when you r machines are connected by wifi and each time you start itunes it will transfer your new purchases

    Hi
It's likely your fan,  It always runs on a MBA.  Mine is very quiet, others report some noise - here is one link.  There are lots of others.
    Hope this helps

I just bought a MBA and I need to move my photos and itunes to an external hard drive (from my old MacBook Pro) because they won't fit on the Air.  I got the photos moved fine and I followed an online tutorial to move the necessary files for itunes, but it didn't work.  The files copied fine, but when I tell iTunes on the Air to look at the external drive for the library, it doesn't find anything.  What I copied was the entire iTunes Media folder.  So, how do I move the necessary iTunes files from my old Pro to a external drive so I can access them from my new Air?  Whew!

iTunes- How to move the library to an EHD
After you move the library you need to open iTunes by first depressing the OPTION key then launching iTunes. You will be given a choice of which library to use. This can then be made a permanent change, if you wish, in the Advanced section of iTunes preferences.

  • Mba and internet

today I had a problem with my MBA. When I am at my own place there is no problem and everything works great. But today I was at my boyfriends place. I took my MBA and my Airport with me.
When I wanted it to conneted there is only a connection for a few seconds, after that the connction drops.
I have checked the connection and configureted the airport.
When I put the cable in a different computer there is a good connection, when I put the cable in my airport there is a green light. The computer also recognized the connection but the internet doesn't work.
Does anyone recognized this problem or has a sollution??

I'm not that good whit computers but my bf computer cann't find my airport at all.
I forgot to mention that the interneticon is fully black on my MBA. I really have no idea about the settings but I haven't changed anything between the well functioning connection at my place and the connection at my bf place.
Is there anything in particulair that I have to change or pay attention to?

  • MBA and ethernet setup assistant

I just purchased a 2013 MBA, and want to transfer my files over from my existing 2009 MBP. I have a Category 5 ethernet cable and a USB-Ethernet adapter to do this. I have the two computers connected with the ethernet cable, but they cannot seem to find each other using Migration Assistant on the 2009 MBP and the Setup Assistant on the MBA (I have my WiFi turned off on the MBP because otherwise it seems to want to use WiFi to transfer the data, which takes 40+ hours). How can I get the computers to "see" each other via the ethernet connection? I have tried googling this but haven't been able to find a single straight answer that pertains to my particular situation. Thank you for any help.

    You have two choices:
If you want to use migration assistant over network, first put both computers on the same network or get a small switch and connect them both to the same switch. Then launch Migration assistant on the MBA, choose from another Mac, and Use Network. Next open Migration assistant on the MBP (source), choose To another Mac, and follow the onscreen instruction. It will ask to set a passcode and continue with the transfer.
If you want to use firewire: Connect both machines with Firewire and restart souce MBP holding T. Then launch Migration assistant on the MBA and transfer.

  • Do I get an iMac and a MBA , OR MBA and a TBD!!??

    That's the question.
    I start uni,
I have decided to get a MBA for portability etc. I also have iPad2 and iPhone. Currently withough a desktop?
So do I get a top spec MBA and thunderbolt display, and run my iPad/phone from there? Is getting an iMac just duplicating unneccessarily?
    Cheers.

Well, the iMac isn't very portable, but far more computer than an MBA, & you can use it's monitor for TB enabled or MiniDisplay Port enabled Macs or PCs.

I have a MBA and although I have a broadband connection, the internet speed in the MBA is pathetic. I even can't open a normal song in Youtube in half an hour, so please help !

Has the speed ever been acceptable, or is this something new?  Try resetting Safari and perhaps rebooting your router.

  • Another MBA and remote disc problem... HELP ME!!!

This is a last ditch attempt before backing over my mba with my car...
I'm trying to do an erase and install using the remote disc... it starts out great, i put the disc in my other computer, a pc, (which has worked just fine before as a remote disc). I follow the directions, select the disc i want to use, tell the pc to use airpart, restart the mac holding the options key, connect the mac to the network, click the arrow under the startup disc on the mba then WHAM! end of communication... the mba freezes for a few moments before rebooting like normal, while the status screen on the pc still says it is waiting for the mba to connect, i've tried over and over and over and the same thing happens each and every time, i don't know what's going wrong... please someone help me out here.

Plug both computers, your MBA and the one sharing the install disk into an Ethernet network. Wireless is a nice idea, but terribly unstable for any significant reinstall or restore. Of course, you will need the USB/Ethernet dongle for you MBA. if you have a time capsule, restores work wonderfully this way if you plug both computers into it. dont even try to use a USB hub...wont work

  • Suitability of MBA and MBP for FCPX ...

    Hi there,
i am going to purchase either a 13" Macbook Air or Macbook Pro & plan to use FCPX on it.
the problem is I discovered the following:-
    a) the anount of RAM is so low as compared to my iMac whic has 32gb RAM.
    b) i always read that it is better to get a dedicated video RAM but most of the latest MBA and MBP only comes with on board video RAM.
    c) the HDD though is a flashed based but is so small, start from only 128gb. Could it be that Apple wants us to buy an external HDD  ?
    cheers & thanks

… But for me, what is important is that when I am editing on the timeline, I hate it when it becomes slow. Sometimes even the beach balls appear.
So in my case, better to have a fast processor or a bigger RAM ?
I have never seen a beachball using FCPX (see my specs: I'm on the very low end of hardware).
(I've seen crashes … it's not all pink here )
Aside 'no background rendering' … or manual initiated rendering (to see complex compos in real-time…) :
Imho, it's all about 'delivery': put each stream on its own 'platter' = no beach balling, no stutter
And with stream I don't mean the source(s), but what you see on screen:
in case, you do pic-in-pic, compounds, MultiCam, you see 2/several streams - then, I recommend 2/several drives …
    to over-exaggerate:
when you put the sources of a 4x camera MultiCam on 4 different drives ==> no stutter, no beach balling at all, even on antique, underpowered systems… ok, that's over-the-top, my several external, simple usb3 drives deliver each 2-3 fullHD streams flawless ...
best practice is it anyhow to separate Events from app/OS/cache…
I would suggest a min. of 16GB Ram.
The number-crunching (rendering) is mostly done on GPU, not CPU.
Last, silly comment: benchmark tests test benchmarks!
Means: FCPX + MacOS + Apple hardware sums up 'higher' than expected.
Don't be too focussed on GHz and stuff, no -user is interested in …
Shall I link again to my stunt? (some board members: "Nooo, not again!!" <yawn> )

  • I've recently noticed a blank FAQ window when my MBA and iMac wake - anyone know what it is?

I've recently noticed that when my MBA and iMac 27" awake, that there is a blank FAQ window.  I can't figure out why it appears.
Any suggestions?  Both machines are running OS X 10.8.2.

This issue is caused by an App Store product called "Live Wallpaper." Remove it or contact the developer for support.

  • Different i5 processors in MBA and MBPR - Will I notice the difference?

Trying to decide between 13"MBA and 13" MBPR (both will come with 8G and 128 storage).  I notice the i5 in MBA is rated1.4GZ, boost to 2.7Ghz and the i5 in MBPR is 2.6GHZ boost to 3.1 GHZ.  Will I notice a difference?  I am struggling with the purchase decision.  This is my first Mac purchase.  Machine will be used for family including 2 middle schoolers, so used for documents, spreadsheets, presentations, internet, hobby level iMovie and iPhoto.  Machine will largely stay home.
The only other differences I see is the HDMI port on MBPR (can't decide if I would use, but seems like it would be handy if making movies and storing photos) and the display, but not sure I will really see a difference.
Any thoughts?  As configured the price difference is about $160.

The MBP is faster than the MBA, you will notice.
128GB is very little, I would reconsider that.

  • Why do I lose the sound effects for mail on my MBA and not the other Macs I have? Running ML.

Why do I lose the sound effects in Mail for sending and receiving on my MBA and not on my other Macs? Running Mountain Lion. The problerm seems to be related to the sleep mode. When the MBA sleeps and then wakes up the sounds are missing. If I shut down and restart the machine the sounds will be back but only last until the maching goes through a sleep cycle.

Primarily because, as ron245 points out, there is only ONE speaker on the bottom.

  • Differences between my MBA and old MBP

I've noticed a few differences in the behavior of these two computers, and I prefer the OLD way better, but I can't figure out how to do it.
In the past, both my iMac & MBP allowed me, in Mail, to use my mouse/trackpad to select a whole string of emails at once, either by just scrolling down, or by holding COmmand as I clicked on each email. I could then delete the whole bunch at once.
But now, on the MBA, I can only select and delete one item at a time.   Is there a setting somewhere I am missing?
On the old computers, I could wake my computer by moving the mouse.  Now I have to hit a key to wake from sleep.  Not a biggie, but old habits die hard! :-)
Other "new" stuff I see on the MBA:
Under DEVICES in the FINDER, I see a "Remote Disk" that has nothing in it, and that I cannot remove. If I look in GET INFO, it gives me no information, other than a box I can check to Lock it.  What the heck is this?
Oddly, while I CAN charge my iPhone via the USB port, it will not charge my Nook via that same Port.  And when I try to attach an external hard drive using a USB hub, it won't see the EHD - but that same hub allows me to charge the iPhone, or attach a mouse.
Battery seems to last FOREVER! :-)

I can help with one of those questions -- the Remote Disk. Since the MacBook Air does not have an optical drive, you can use remote disk to share another computer's optical drive. The following has information: DVD or CD sharing: Using Remote Disc

  • Bought a MBA and am trying to keep iTunes files on an external hard drive. Having problems.

Hi, I bought a MBA 13" and want to keep my iTunes files on an external hard drive to save space. However, I keep running into problems. I can't get the iTunes Media folder to stay on the folder in my external hard drive. Whenever I unplug it, regardless if iTunes is open or not, it changes back to the media file on the MBA. I tried renaming the media folder and deleting it, but the computer just makes another if I do that and then ends up deleting my whole library, forcing me to load it all back from my hard drive. Can anyone help me out on this? Thanks.

In iTunes 11 uncheck the preferences setting in in the iTunes Preferences panel "Advanced > Copy Files to iTunes Media folder when adding to Library"
