MBA display calibration settings

Hi,
Got a 11in MBA 2011 recently, very happy with it. Until now, however, I was unable to calibrate the screen. But yesterday X-Rite released the calibration software for my eye-one display 2 that is compatible with OSX Lion.
I'm unsure what settings to use with the MBA display? White point D65 (or higher?), Luminance 100 or 120?, gamma 2.2.
I believe my display is the one made by LG.
Thanks a lot!
Hans

It is an LCD display, the back light is LED. Use LCD

  • Recommended iMac display calibration settings

Trying to calibrate my 2011 27" iMac with a Datacolor Spyder4 Pro.
Their calibration tool recommends a brightness of 180, but I have seen other articles from other sources recommending something closer to 120.
At 180, the display seem extremely bright - and when some of my photos are viewed on other / non-calibrated monitors, they are darker that what I would expect.
Also, I know that the iMac has an LED display, but that does not seem to be an option during the setup - is LCD the best choice?
Any recommendtions on settng for proper calibration of this display would be appreciated...
    Thanks

  • Request for optimal calibration settings for Lenovo ThinkVision monitors

I understand one person's settings may not hold true for someone else's given display variances, but I would very much like to get anyone's suggested, optimal picture settings for each of the below two monitors.
Primarily monitor 1 looks way worse than monitor 2 for me, but I still want help with both.  Models listed below.  Please include each item/setting with # used so I can try them out and see if it helps.
      Monitor 1: LEN L1900pA
      Monitor 2: LEN LT1913pA
    Thank you for your help!

    Hi Jwhyrock,
    Jwhyrock reply,
I played with settings on all 3 monitors.  Not entirely sure I like what I did, but it is a bit better.  I would still like to see what settings anyone else is using for their display such as contrast, brightness, color saturation etc.
Below is the link on how to setup the default calibration for display, please follow the steps. And also suggest you to check with resetting the Monitor to factory default setting in the monitor, or you can also check with installing Monitor .inf for the specific model which can be downloaded from the manufacturer link.

    Hope this helps!

  • Changed Calibration Settings, Big Problems Now with sRGB

I use Lightroom 1.3.1 on a PC with Windows. I've been using Lightroom for about a year for the same workflow (creating images for web primarily). I use a Canon 5D.
Today I changed the Camera Calibration Settings in the Develop module. I downloaded the "CAL ACR Calibrated" Settings and imported them. I may have downloaded settings for the 30D if that matters. With the new calibration settings, my reds looked MUCH better and I was very pleased.
Then I went to Library module. In that module the colors were washed out as before. Hmmm. Anyway, I exported to Photoshop using ProPhoto RGB (as always). The photos looked fine in Photoshop with the same great colors.
THEN I tried to convert the photos to sRGB. The nice reds went back to the washed out, orangish color they were before. I tried all the different conversion options with the same result. My work flow hasn't changed otherwise, and I have never had this problem. (My Photoshop color settings should be correct and my monitor is profiled, etc). For the record, photos that I exported previously (before making the calibration changes) still look the same and render to sRGB the same as always.
Can anyone please help!? Is this a bug in Lightroom?

    >he more I think my issue is related to the difference between my monitor's color gamut and sRGB
It is definitely possible but would be very suprising as your monitor is supposed to be wider than sRGB in red. What happens when you take the saturated sRGB red image in Photoshop and soft proof for your monitor profile? You should NOT check preserve RGB numbers. Now also check "Show gamut warning." If sRGB red is really outside your monitor's gamut, the image should turn solid gray. Even if the red is outside the gamut the shift in color should be small though and you should not get the described huge shift to orange, which makes me think the calibrator must be off a bit.
    >The point people were making in that forum discussion is that most web browsers (like Firefox notably) don't render using sRGB at all, but they send ALL the color information in the image to the monitor. That means some images may appear much more saturated in Firefox than they do in color managed environments (like Photoshop or, actually, Safari I think).
The first part is true, but the second part is only true on wide gamut monitors. Your monitor is almost equal to sRGB (according to the manufacturer at least) and Firefox should look almost exactly the same as Photoshop if you use sRGB and have it correctly calibrated. On most people's monitors, colors will be less saturated than what you are seeing as almost every laptop LCD screen out there is narrower in gamut than sRGB.
    >Now I'm suspecting that the reason Lightroom at default settings renders red with an orange cast (as many people report) is because they want to keep output files compatible with sRGB. Otherwise, most people would assume a red color shift means either Lightroom or Photoshop is broken.
I don't think any thought went into that. The rendering Lightroom and ACR use is based on calibration that Thomas Knoll did using reference charts. They are supposed to make ACR render colors as correctly as possible into the reference space (much wider than sRGB) under the reference conditions. No attempt is made to compress the color into sRGB or so. There is unfortunately quite a bit of variation between cameras causing the oranges that people report.
    >The discussion in that forum (can't find the link unfortunately) was basically about how difficult it is for SmugMug to display and print photos in a consistent way given the lack of a real standard, because more and more people buy monitors that display more than the sRGB gamut, and browsers don't display sRGB by default.
As always smugmug (and I love them BTW) is trying to solve the wrong problem. You cannot fix people's screens and browsers. If people do not calibrate their monitor and do not use color managed browsers (i.e. Safari and Firefox 3.0 beta) there is nothing you can do to help them but tell them to ... calibrate their monitors and to use color managed browsers. If people buy wide gamut monitor and do not calibrate and color manage they are asking for trouble. Luckily they are still out of reach for most consumers.
    >- see if there are updates for the monitor and/or video card
    - see if there is an update for the Eye-One device
    - try creating a new profile from scratch just to see
    - if all else fails, buy a new calibrator
    - if that fails, then try switching to my older monitor...hope not
These are great steps. You definitely should try recreating the profile from scratch. Also, the Huey Pro or Colorvision Spyder calibrators can be had for <$70 if you want to check your calibrator. Both give great results. Your calibrator should do a good job, but it is always possible that you have a dud. Again, your monitor should give a response very close to sRGB in unmanaged apps, making images appear the same or very close in managed and unmanaged apps if the screen is calibrated.

  • Display Calibration Issues

    hi,
just upgraded to 10.6.8 and lots of issues.
the biggest is that my 30" cinema display now looks 15-20% lighter.
the screen image (especially in abobe indesign) doesn't look like it did in 10.5.8
and looks lighter than my normal print output.
I've played around with display calibration, but my new settings are really different
from my original settings. and of course, now all my indesign files are out-of-sync
with the abobe color settings and need to be updated, each and every one.
I also read that the new 'target gamma' is now 2.2 for 10.6.8 (as a default), but
when calibrating in SL, isn't not default and you need to know to manually change that.
has anyone else experienced these kind of SL display problems?
if so, how did you correct them?
in the back of my mind I'm thinking it's something with the video card, but
I'll try anything short of messing with that.
bottom line: all was well in 10.5.8.
now with 10.6.8, I've got issues that need to be fixed asap.
    jim

    my suspicion is snow leopard.
Nope, color works just fine. Something has changed in your setup. If you're using the exact same monitor and printer profiles you had under 10.5.8, color should come out the same under Snow Leopard.
While the default for Snow Leopard is now a 2.2 gamma, it doesn't mean you can't change it. It only means the long supplied Apple profiles are now built with a 2.2 gamma instead of 1.8. You can still build your monitor profiles to any white point and gamma you want.
Color matching is actually much simpler than it sounds. Though I should say the concept is simple. ColorSync is what controls color between devices. If you're trying to match your print to the monitor, ColorSync reads the monitor profile's color space. It does the best it can to make it fit and translate to the printer profile's color space.
That's the simple explanation. But in order for that to work, you need accurate profiles. You'll go through an awful lot of paper and ink trying one unrelated profile after another, and still get nowhere. By "unrelated", I mean using a profile that has nothing to do with the device. Such as choosing "Adobe RGB" as your monitor profile. That profile means nothing in relation to your monitor. It does not describe the white point, gamma or brightness you monitor is necessarily set to, nor the gamut or range of color it can actually display. Same goes for the rest of any profile the system allows you to choose as your monitor profile. They are all generic profiles that in no way describe the device you are looking at. I go into a lot more detail on monitors here.
So when you do use one of those generic monitor profiles, ColorSync can only assume, yes, this must be exactly how the monitor looks that you're viewing. Which of course it doesn't. So naturally, printed color is rarely even close.
The least expensive color management tool you can buy, and at the same time drastically improves your ability to match output to your screen is something like this. Of the two models, definitely get the i1Display Pro. Much faster, accurate unit. Also much better software with more control. Don't bother looking at older colorimeters such the i1Display2, Spyder, or any other previous models. They can't handle the output of today's wide gamut LCD or LED monitors. Gray rarely comes out gray. Usually very greenish or pink. These new models have bee completely redesigned to handle today's monitors. They also handle older monitors just fine.

  • LP2475 - best colour calibration settings for stock photography

Hi - I have just purchased the LP2475 and am new at colour calibration.  The general colour seems very over saturated.
I am mainly using the monitor it to do 2 main things :
    1) using lightroom / pshop and adjusting photos that will be available online for stock photography purchasing.
    2) using lightroom /pshop and adjusting panos to print via 2 out-of-house print companies.
I understand that I have to buy a colour calibration device and I will make up custom printer profiles for the 2 different companies where I get my photos printed (one is a canvas & one is a photo printing company).
However, the issue lies in what general calibration settings I should have in lightroom / pshop for my stock photos - because once sold, they will be printed on all various types of printers, and viewed through various types of monitors - most not calibrated.  So what are good general settings.     It seems very over saturated with colour, and I cannot actually seem to adjust the saturation in the button menu on the monitor as this setting is greyed out.
    Thanks
    Lucy

    I recently bought a Spyder2Pro, which was
    recommended
by Scott Kelby, Editor of Photoshop User Magazine,
and am very happy with it. The main difference
between Spyder2Pro and Spyder2 are multiple
    monitor
support and more choices for monitor gamma and
tempereature settings. Since I use multiple
monitors, I went for Spyder2Pro, although it was a
bit more pricy (got it for $189 at JR.com). All
    my
monitors were calibrated very quickly and I was
amazed how much difference the tool made. If you
have one monitor to calibrate, I think Spyder2
    would
be fine (it was $89 at JR.com a few days ago).
One hint with the multiple monitor thing is that on
the Mac, all of these tools just end up generating an
ICC profile that gets assigned to your monitor.
What that means is that they all actually support
multiple monitors, just not all automatically... for
the ones that do not know how to select displays, you
can just move the menu bar to whatever screen you
wish to profile and the software should create a
    profile for that screen.
I use the EyeOne and like it a lot. But any hardware
    calibrator is better than none.
As a side note, I think using a color temperature of
65k for the monitor and a gamma of 2.2 is really a
good setting to use with any calibrator.
    Svendo,
I fully support the comments in this post but still prefer the GM Eye 1. Dont try to do the job with your eye. 99 times out of 100 you will be way off the mark.

  • How do I reset/restore my late 2011 MBA to factory settings??

Ok, so I love my MacBook Air that I got for christmas 2011. But the thing is, I have never been great about emails. TOO MUCH JUNK EMAIL!!! Also the whole photostream thing, is kinda overwhelming me because its SUPER hard to delete them off of iPhoto. And then theres the fact that the category "other" takes up 25 GB of space!! So my idea on how to fix that and try and get a better start with iCloud on my iphone 3gs (because I have it for another year) and my iPad (1st generation), I was thinking I would reset/restore (i honestly dont see a difference between the two) my MBA to factory settings as if it was brand new and get a fresh new start on that and my phone. Because on the phone (and iPad), Apple makes it so easy to just go to settings -> general -> reset and boom-boom-boom you're done. Now, I dont think that my MBA came with a flash drive or OS disk. And I dont know how to do all the complicated code entering or whatever. I live in an area where there isnt really an apple store nearby so I dont think taking it in to them will work either. But I've already backed all my stuff up to 2 flash drives and all my contacts are hand-written down in a contact book. So, is there a way I could just basically get a new start on the MBA? Thanks and sorry there are so many "can'ts" and "i dont understands". I am 14 and pretty good with computers but this is my first Mac so I'm still trying to learn it! But, thank you in advance to all those that try to help!!
                                                             ~Appgirl2020

    1. Shut down your system.
    2. Hold down power + option to start your computer back up.
    3. Let go of power, but keep holding option.
    4. You should see two hard drive icons, one that says Macintosh HD and one that says Recovery HD.
    5. Select Recovery HD, and click enter.
The rest is up to you, if you want a better description of how to do this more accurately there is a guy by the name of Lou from "UnBoxTherapy" on YouTube that gives a great tutorial on how to do this.
Here is a link to his video:

  • Windows 8.1 forgets dpi / display size settings for one monitor on almost every reboot

    I use TV 32" with 1920x1080 and cintiq 13" with 1920x1080
when I boot my PC the resolution is fine but DPI is wrong.
In smaller monitor It's look like DPI is higher than the bigger one.
I already set dpi to be the same (smallest 100%) but it's not work until I do something to change display setting.
It's really annoy me. This problem is not happen when I use windows 8
Only solution I found is turn off
    "Turn on fast start-up".
When I do that It's boot like what I want. every monitor is the same DPI.
But it'll make my boot time longer.
It should be just start up windows and use the same dpi from the start.
So I think this problem is a bug in windows 8.1
    Best regards

    Thank you for reply.
I've already used the latest graphic card driver. But It's won't help this issue.
In registry editor. I check those variables then value of them is already set like that blog suggest.
So , it look like when windows start-up(with fast start-up) It use something like
suggest value for different monitor size instead of what I set in control panel. But when I turn off fast start-up windows use my setting value.
And I think there are a lot of people who got the same problem as me.
    Here is an example.

  • Display Geometry Settings GONE

I have a 21" Apple Studio Display (VGA) and am using it as a second monitor, but now with 10.6 the geometry settings are gone. Snow Leopard also tweaked/modified my displays so I do need to adjust the image or dramatically lower the resolution to get the image correct - it's distorted to an unusable state.
Anyone know of a third party tool to adjust the geometry of Apple's CRT displays - I have a second 17" in the basement that I'm sure will run into the same issue shortly - as I'm assuming Apple won't be of any help.

My iMac has had a similar problem since the display was repaired while the machine was still under warranty (the problem back then was rolling flickering lines). The display gradually becomes shorter and wider; the only remedy is to turn the machine off and let it cool down for a couple of hours. I have to keep my display geometry settings at a "happy medium" so the Dock arrows on the left side are not totally cut off and so I can read DragThing's tabs at the bottom of the screen.

  • Thunderbolt Display and MBA Display options

if i make any application ( chrome, spotify etc ) full screen either on MBA display or on the Thunderbolt screen, the other screen goes grey. How can make an application like spotify, chrome full screen on Thunderbolt display but still keep using outlook/mail on the main mba screen ?

    Hello, Fran.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
This is the normal functionality of operating systems Mac OS X 10.8 and earlier.  However, we recently released a new operating system for free that will allow the use of multiple displays in full screen mode.

    Hope this helps,

  • Share same display calibration

I just got two Dell LCD monitors and I calibrated one of them using Apple's display calibration and saved it. For some reason the calibration doesn't show up in the other displays lists of choices. How can I get it to share the exact same calibration?

Have you tried restarting then trying again?

  • Battery usage won't display in settings on iPad Air

How can I get my usage since last charge to display in settings on my iPad Air?? I have done a hard reset and really do not want to to do a restore reset as Apple does not know how to fix the problem And that's the only option that they have given me.  I have only had to charge my ipad 3 times since receiving it, and it has never displayed the time. Any suggestions would be great!!

My brand new ipad air 1 is not displaying the battery usage figures. I did an 18 hour charge before using it and expected the values to be shown.
    Please help

  • Imitating Camera Raw Calibration settings with Adjustment layers

    Hi,
I do quite a lot color grading and color manipulation with Lightroom, Photoshop and Speedgrade.
Sometimes I like to use Camera Raw "Camera calibration" Settings to play with hues of the image.
I have yet to found a way to imitate or reproduce the look with  Adjustment layers inside Photoshop.
I have tried with channel mixers and hue/saturation adjustment layers with no good results.
I want to use Adjustment Layers because then I can export the look as Lookup table for other applications.
Do you have any hints how i could achieve these kind of effects as in the sample image below?
    Cheers,
    Otso

This mode in Camera Raw / Camera Calibration adjusts the three primaries of the camera sensor.
This is equivalent to an adjustment of the chromaticity coordinates of the working space primaries.
These are not directly accessible in an image processing workflow. One had to modify the ICC profile
    of the working space.
The purpose of this hue modification in ACR is (in my humble opinion) a weak correction of the camera
sensor primaries, perhaps because of ag(e)ing (though I never heard of).
This is the effect, but with unknown scale factor:
    (neg) shift toward-----Original------(pos) shift toward
    magenta-----------------red-------------yellow
    yellow--------------------green----------cyan
    cyan----------------------blue------------magenta
IMO, one cannot mimic this effect.

  • Thunderbolt display calibration factory profile not found

Hi, I have recently got a Thunderbolt display (attached to Mac Mini) and have opened the 'Thunderbolt Display' preferences tab and have noticed that under 'color' the setting was 'sRGB IE61966-2.1' rather than 'Display' or 'Thunderbolt Display' - is this normal and if not what should the default be?
Also when I hit the 'calibrate...' button 'Display Calibrator' states that 'The Factory profile for the display could not be found' and when I enter 'ColorSync Utility' it states that:
    /Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Displays/Display-756E6B6E-7669-7274-0000-000041DC9D0 1.icc
Tag 'cprt': Text tag has an incorrect length.
The file is locked. Could not be fixed.
When I go to the folder and try to unlock the file by going to 'Get Info' it doesn't state that the file is locked.
I also have Adobe CS5.5 installed so maybe that's installed some different ICC profiles?
Help please community, I'm pretty much a noob to this.
    Thanks

Don't feel bad. You are certainly not the first person to make that mistake and it is equally certain you will not be the last.
