MBA glitches, esp menu bar

So I've had some glitches with my 10-day old top-end 11" MBA
First, Flash and Java worked for 3 days, then didn't for another 3 days, then started magically working again--no updates, no nothing, just decided to work again.
The sleep/power/down/wake issue that some other posters have reported, where when I close the lid and it sleeps it actually appears to power down because the only thing that wakes it is the power button and then it starts up as if it were shut down instead of just sleeping.
The next issue is that it doesn't always remember my home network password upon wake, and I have to re-enter it. Not a big problem, but happens also on other networks when I'm out of the house, and I have to keep re-entering passwords for networks I have already joined. Annoying.
Now, as of last night, none of the menu bar icons except Growl are showing. No clock, no battery percentage, no spaces, no wi-fi icon, not even spotlight. ***?
I did disk repair and repair permissions, and nothing. Any suggestions on how to fix my menu bar? I rely a lot on the battery percentage and clock when I'm working, and I use the other stuff regularly too.

Oh ya, System Prefs freezes when I go into the clock
The easiest solution is to just take it back. I am lucky not to be plagued with such disorders.

Hello other happy-clappy mac users
I seem to have aquired a small blue triangle which appears in the top-left of the menu bar whenever i mouse near it.
Any ideas as to what it is and how to get rid of it? It doesn't seem to affect anything - it just annoys me (bit of a perfectionist )

Open System Preferences > Accounts > The account where you see the triangle > Startup Items.
In there, do you see anything that could be associated with the triangle being generated, or something you are not familiar with?
Can you also post a link to a screenshot of your Menubar?

How can I automatically "retract" all windows from my Thunderbolt display back to my MacBook Air when I disconnect the display, esp if the Thunderbolt is the desktop with the white menu bar?

I am in and out of my office with my MacBook Air. I would like to set it up so when I plug in my Thunderbolt display in the office, the Thunderbolt display has my desktop, menu bar and the open windows. If I set the Thunderbolt display to mirror by MacBook Air it adjusts to the lower resolution of the MacBook Air, which is a waste of a cool monitor. I can set it up as an extended desktop and drag the white menu bar to the Thunderbolt display so it displays my desktop but if I then disconnect my MacBook Air, the menu bar is absent and all the windows that were seen on that display are absent, as if it I was still attached to the larger display. The only way around this is to go to Thunderbolt display preferences, drag the white menu bar back to the smaller display and manually drag all windows to the smaller display before disconnecting. Doing this multiple times per day is a real pain. Is there a way to set my MacBook Air to recognize when it is attached to the Thunderbolt display and automatically my desktop and all open windows to it and then do the same process in reverse when I unhook it?

It's definitely not supposed to work like that...when you plug the display in, it should just turn on and adjust your displays. It works like that on my MBP. Kind of a silly question, but do you have the MagSafe from the display plugged in your MBAir too? Thats a requirement. Beyond that, it should "just work."
Not sure if there is some setting to enable...i haven't seen it. Call to support?

Menu Bar Display Glitch (longstanding)

Anyone any idea as to the cause of this annoying repeating pattern (8 Sets, which rearrange in lower screen resolutions) over the menu bar?
It is more obvious at lower screen resolutions and is either yellow or blue depending on colour of surrounding screen. Interestingly colour from pattern 'bleeds' onto edge of any adjacent window & can be 'smudged'. Once picked up it can be moved around with window and it disappears if window is deselected then reselected. Not a problem in normal use but is really obvious in 10.7 dashboard or when full screen mode is selected (annoying when viewing full screen in Aperture or iPlayer etc).
I initially wondered if it was a Hardware problem & ran Apple Hardware test (extended) which reported no problem. Interestingly the pattern was also present on the hardware test background screen but was more regular & looked more like a spreadsheet row & column arrangement across the top of the screen.
Anyone any ideas, or do I use some black insulating tape across the top of my screen when watching Mongrels?

everytime that i use my mac with SL it works fine but sometimes when i open another application the menu bar goes really transparent.. i will try to provide with screenshot ASAP. although this doesnt happen all the time it gets annoying beacause i have to go to another application to get the menu bar grey again... please help

Changing the wallpaper upon waking from sleep glitches the translucent menu bar.

This is a minor bug, but it's one that I'd still like to see fixed simply because I'm that picky
The problem, as the title states, is that I have my desktop background settings set to randomly change to another one of my wallpapers every hour and (I don't believe it does it when it changes while the computer is awake) when I wake my computer from sleep, during which time an hour has passed, the background changes to a different wallpaper, but the translucent menu bar still shows the top of the wallpaper that was just up.
My machine is a 2011 iMac. Thanks!

If it's an encrypted network one thing that can work, try this, please ignore the exact symptoms and connection and Hardware types, it's worked for many others than the stated...

Photoshop CS4 - Menu bar background is showing as black

Hi all,
I've been attempting to change the background colour of the menu bar of my photoshop, for some reason instead of being a white background with black text, i have the below.
The machine I am running has:
Photoshop CS4
Win 7 64 Bit
4GB of Ram
Any help would be really be appreciated, thank you for you time,

If you have not set an oddball theme on the desktop (which Photoshop mostly ignores), it could be that you have a video driver glitch.
I think the first thing I'd try is this: Right-click on the open desktop, choose Personalize, then save your current theme. Now select the Windows 7 theme, just to make sure everything's set in a known way.
Does the problem persist?
If so, then it's likely a video driver update will help... Visit the web page of the maker of your video card, locate the latest driver version for your hardware and version of Windows, download, and install.

Spry Menu Bar CS4

I have used the horizontal Spry Menu Bar for the navigation for my website. I used a tiered system because I needed two levels of drop downs for the menu. When we loaded the site to the web yesterday it worked fine on Mozilla but there was a glitch on IE. Instead of dropping down in a stacking order, the submenus would be lined up horizontally along the screen in a long line. I'm not sure if I need to edit the .css file for the spry menu bar, or the .js file. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Note: I've attached the javascript code AND the css code for reference.

I was just struggling with this, too. I think I have it fixed -- it's looking good in IE7 and IE8 (my standalone of IE6 has conflicts and refuses to open this morning).
You need to update the CSS. Give this a try.

Take a look -- the menus should be displaying vertically in a list in IE, but you'll see the background color isn't extending to fill the entire list box.
So add the background-color property with the correct color to the ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul entry.
I haven't gone through your code line by line, but those two changes fixed it for me. Let me know if it works.

Spry Menu Bar jumps off screen-right in CS6

Frustrating little glitch I'm experiencing. When in a NON-LIVE mode in CS6, I have a Spry Menu Bar that I've placed, customized and is functioning properly. It is precisely in the right location in BOTH live mode and in a browser preview, however, when I am editing the site the menu bar jumps off screen right to where I have to scroll right to locate it. The only thing that pops it back in to place is by tweaking a setting like "Float" from right to left then back to right. But once I begin to edit the site again it will jump off the screen. This isn't a massive deal since it remains in place in live and preview modes, it's just annoying for layout purposes while I'm editing. It sort of screws up the aesthetic of the layout. Has anyone found the same problem? Below is my layout.css and my Spry Menu css.

Design view is not reliable. Learn to work in Code View or Split View with Live View to check your layout.
Spry menus are not responsive so they will not work well in a Fluid Grid Layout. Find a better menu system.

In the meantime,
It's often easier to work with an unstyled HTML page.
To disable CSS, go to View > Style Rendering > untick Display Styles.
Or, use a Design-Time Style Sheet.

How can I get the Menu Bar in P/S Ele. 9 to show in the organizer?

The Menu bar IS in Edit. Problem occured when I updated from XP to new computer w/ Windows 7. There is a small rectangle where the menu bar usually is. I can click on it and the menu bar opens vertically. The rectangle can not be seen unless you stand up to locate it.

The glitches and workarounds include:
-          The Organizer’s menu bar (File, Edit, etc.) won’t show up. You can either set the Windows text size back to 100% (96 DPI), or you can set the Organizer option Edit > Preferences > General > Use System Font. With the latter, the results aren’t always the prettiest, e.g. the font in the Editor’s menu bar stays small, but the font in the dropdown menus gets large. But this workaround at least lets you keep the text size large so that you can read the text in all your other applications.
-          The Advanced Dialog in the Photo Downloader won’t be available in PSE 8. (That also occurs on short displays.) You’ll need to reduce the Windows text size to something less – how much depends on the resolution of your display.
-          The Editor on Windows 7 can show a mouse cursor for some tools that looks like three distorted shadows of the true cursor. You’ll need to reduce the Windows text size to less than 150% (149% works fine).
To change the Windows text size/DPI of your display:
XP: Start > Control Panel > Display or Start > Settings > Control Panel > Display.   Click Settings > Advanced.
Vista: Windows Start > Control Panel > Personalization > Adjust Font Size (DPI).
Windows 7: Start > Control Panel > Display. To choose a custom size, click Set Custom Text Size (DPI) on the left.

Can't connect via PPPoE in menu bar

Hello,
After not touching my Network Configuration settings for like three years, a glitch in my Unison 1.8.1 newsreader prompted me to go in to check, but I then encountered the prompt that has been afflicting lots of people: "Network settings have been changed by another application."
So after some research here and via Google, I deleted /Library/Preferences/com.apple.networkConfig.plist and restarted the computer with the file still in the trash.
I then manually reentered my ISP Network Configuration info (TCP/IP and PPPoE, as I use ADSL), but since then, I have only been able to connect via the Internet Connect program, rather than my preferred method that I've always used of connecting by using the PPPoE drop-down menu "Connect" command in the menu bar in the upper-right-hand corner of the screen.
Going back to System Preferences' Network Configuration, showing the Built-in Ethernet's PPPoE panel, the "Show PPPoE status in menu bar" box remains checked, and indeed does display in the menu bar, however, only with a functioning "Disconnect" command -- NOT the "Connect" command, whose functionality I am seeking to restore.
I realize this is more of a cosmetic problem, as I can still connect via the Internet Connect program, but would appreciate any tips for restoring the functionality of the PPPoE drop-down menu "Connect" command in the menu bar. Thanks in advance!

Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, move these files to the Desktop.
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.networkConnect.<12 digit number>.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.internetconnect.plist
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
Then reboot once more.

Need menu bar on BOTH displays when using external monitor

How can I have the menu bar on BOTH displays without using the "Mirror Display" mode???
I bought a Thunderbolt and use it with my MBA. It works fine overall but this is still like having one display instead of two. A real downer!!
There are 2 modes:
Mirror Displays: (identical screen: why waste valuable screen realestate?)
"Normal" mode: where it gives you access to the 2 monitors independently (you can move apps. windows and locate them on any screen you want).
In the "Normal" mode, you can move the menu bar from one display to the other but it does not resolve the problem. We need TWO menu bars, which work identical and can be used on whatever display the mouse cursor happens to be.
Currently, let's say I have applications A & B displaying on MBA, applications C & D displaying on TB, and the Menu Bar on TB. It is a nightmare to work!!!! Anytime I want to work on A or B I have to move the mouse side way to get to the MBA, then to use the menu, I can't even move up into the TB all the way to the menu bar: I have to move through the side onto the TB then up to the menu bar, select, down through the TB, side way to the MBA, and on and on and on....
Anybody knows how to duplicate a functional menu bar without Mirror Display?

Please Help. Snow Leopard - Everything 'quits unexpectedly' and top menu bar flashing.
Basically, I have been using snow leopard for about 1-2 weeks now without any problems, apart from the strange trackpad expose glitch, but I can live with that. But a new problem has arisen that I CANNOT live with. Basically I plugged in my MiniDisplay > VGA adaptor and a Wacom internet tablet for the first time. And when it booted up rather than just the usual spinning gear, their was a progress bar as-well. Then it booted into Safe Mode.?
Everything was fine in safe mode apart from spotlight didn't work properly so I rebooted and this time it loaded normally. EXCEPT about 5 minutes after I logged on the top menu bar started to flash on and off about ever 1-2 seconds and virtually every single application would quit unexpectedly before even loading. I haven't really looked into it apart from a quick search on google which doesn't seem to bring up anything similar, but atm I am having to use my bootcamp partition with windows installed (shock horror :D) just so I can browse the internet.

While logging on (before it crashes), menu items (e.g. Airport, Battery Indicator, Facebook Notifier) all load up on the far right BEFORE the clock, which never happened before the problem, don't know if this will help isolate the problem, but its worth mentioning..
Don't really want to go down the fresh install route if possible, as I did this with leopard about 2 months before Snow Leopard was released

I noticed it some weeks after installing Snow Leopard, and didn't think much about it since I have a Wacom mouse, and the Wacom driver often has some little peculiarities at startup with the Mac OS--sometimes everything is perfectly ordinary, there will be an OS update and a little oddness shows up, the driver eventually gets updated and the oddness disappears until some other OS update, and so on. I just figured that was what it was until my brother asked about the missing the menu bar after startup, which reappears with a click. He doesn't use a Wacom mouse, but he does have some other 3rd party mouse. I don't know whether 3rd party mouse drivers are at fault or not. But it is not a problem with the SystemUIServer.....the entire menu bar is missing, not just a goof-up on the Spotlight end, where SystemUIServer is in charge of things. Since simply clicking the mouse brings the menu bar up I've never even bothered to check the logs to see if anything is noted there.

Can't put my clock back into my menu bar

I had some operating glitches with my 27" iMac running on 10.8.3 yesterday so I verified my permissions using Disk Utility. However, since I did this, I can't get my clock back into the menu bar. When I access it in System Prefs, and click on 'Clock' I get a beachball for a while. Then it allows me to check 'show date and time in menu bar'. But after some more spinning ball, it unchecks the box itself. What's going on? Anybody know?

Menu Bar items invisible in Safari full screen mode

I have a brand new MacBook Pro 13" Retina, mid-2014 (the MGX72). When I use Safari in full screen mode, then move the cursor to the very top of the screen, which is supposed to bring back the Menu bar, a blank space representing the Menu Bar appears, and if I move the cursor to any place on that blank space and click, I see the items/options associated with Menu Bar items. So it's like the Menu Bar items are there, but they're invisible. This has to be a glitch of some type. My MacBook Air doesn't do this; the Menu Bar items appear normally, as they should. Is there a fix for this? All the usual suspects for bringing Safari out of full screen mode work fine, but that's not the idea. The Menu Bar items are supposed to become visible and they do not.

No, dont return it, its a glitch in Safari, and VERY annoying. I first would have to Force Quit Safari, but later learned to keep hovering the mouse in the upper right corner, even tho nothing, yeah nothing,,,,is visible.
Keep the mouse there, and after a bit, you will see the little arrows pointing in, hit them.
But to keep this from happening again, Im not sure.
So anybody with further info, please post it here.
