MBA mid 2013 Airdrop not active?
Hi,
I have an MBA (mid 2013 with Yosemite 10.10.2) and an iPhone 6 (iOS 8.1.3) with Bluetooth and Wifi (same network) enabled on both devices.
Airdrop enabled on iPhone for everyone.
On my MBA i do not see a Airdrop icon whatsoever.
I looked in finder and finder sidebar. I tried every tip from the internet (reset NVRAm, SMc etc.)
Is it possible to reset the Airdrop settings on my MBA?
THX Freek
No this option is not available...

Macbook Air mid-2013 suddenly not booting - showed battery icon then died
Hi all,
This morning, I used my Macbook Air (mid-2013) to send an email and check up on my usual stuff, nothing I've not done hundreds of times. I then closed the lid and went to work. Again, nothing I've never done before.
When I got home though, I opened the Macbook and it didn't wake up, which I thought was odd. So I pressed the power button. For a few seconds, it showed an icon in the middle of a black screen that was related to the battery - sorry I can't recall exactly what it looked like, its the first time I've seen it, but it showed an empty battery with a small red part of it left - obviously understood as meaning the battery was flat.
I was puzzled at this; it should have been asleep since I'd closed the lid, how could it have run out? I was only gone for about 8 hours as well, I usually get more battery life than that out of it when I'm actually using it, never mind when its sleeping.
But I thought whatever, and plugged it in for a few minutes to charge it up enough to turn on and maybe see why it had done this. The orange light came on the Magsafe end, but after a few minutes, still nothing.
Cue much panicking and looking around at things, and this is what I've discovered/tried:
- The battery appears to be charging, the light eventually went green.
- When I press the power button, the Mac does power on; I can hear the fan inside if I put my ear to it (note that this means its really quiet, its not blowing at full power or anything), and the Mac is getting hot on the left hand side where the power adapter plugs in. It turns on both when plugged in and when its not. So the battery has power and the machine is turning on, it just isn't booting or doing anything. I can turn it off if I hold the power button down for about 3 seconds, the fan stops. But everything else is completely unresponsive. Also, it gets quite hot pretty quick, hotter than it normally does when in use.
- I've reset the SMC, several times. When I do this, the light on the Magsafe goes green for a second, then back to orange, as though I've just plugged it in. I guess this means it is responding to the SMC reset, but it does nothing in terms of getting the thing started. This is the first thing people suggest with this problem, but I've already done it and while it seems to be doing its thing, it doesn't fix the problem.
- I've tried resetting the PRAM/NVRAM. This has no noticeable affect on anything.
- I've tried holding a bunch of different keys when starting up (cmd+R etc.) but again, nothing.
- I've tried something crazy suggested in another thread; leaving the Macbook partially opening and shaking it, which supposedly does something to the "sudden motion sensor". I wouldn't have tried this but a whole bunch of people said it worked for them, but it does nothing for me. The fact this step didn't work is why I made a new thread; because the issue with those people seemed to be that their Macs wouldn't wake up from sleep/hibernation and shaking it somehow did that, or they just magically woke up on their own.
And at this stage I seem to have run out of thing to try.
I've made an appointment at the Genius bar but the earliest they could do is Saturday, which is pretty crappy and I'm going travelling in less than 2 weeks, so I really need my Macbook to sort out the details since a lot of info about it is on there exclusively.
Does anyone know any reason why this might have happened?
Why would the battery drain so fast when it was supposed to be sleeping?
Why will it now not boot at all, even though it's powering up in some way? Could it not booting be related to the fact the battery seemed to run completely flat, and this has done something to the software or hardware?
Any suggestions beyond what I've tried already?
If I can't get it working before my Genius appointment, I'll post what happens here just in case any one else has this issue so people will have an idea of what might have happened to them.
Thanks in advance!olliemilne wrote:

You could try booting the MBP using the OPTION+COMMAND+R keys and see if it will connect to the Apple servers. This would allow you to install the original OSX . I have my doubts though.

The Sudden Motion Sensor is applicable for conventional Hard Drives, not the SSD that is in a MBA. Doing that will serve no useful purpose.
You have exhausted all reasonable options and will just have to have the MBA evaluated at the genius bar.

Why MBA (Mid - 2013) doesn't support with Bose Headphones for Audio Input
I just bought two MBA 11(mid - 2013) and MBA 13 (mid - 2013) two week ago and I found out that it doesn't support bose audio headphone (MIE2i mobile headphone) for audio input. So I am having experience for audio input with it. When I am having skype or recording, the voice go slient if i use that headphone as external microphone. All of my friends who are skyping with me can't heard my voice if i am doing skype with my MBA. Audio output is fine though, you can hear as usual in headphones. Internal microphone works though, but it is not good for privacy though.
Thus, I went to apple store (Five ave) to trouble shoot about it, they said that is because Bose has noise cancelling, (BUT Bose MIE2i doesn't have noise cancelling though). They gave me two ear buds of apple ipod (one is outdate version & another one is latest version - that representative sucked, because she doesn't value the customer, she gave me outdate ear-buds, but i didn't urge with 3 dollars ear-buds), apple ear-bud works for audio input and output, however apple ipod ear buds are suck, it hurts the ears all time if you wear for 1 hrs. that's why I use quality headphone such as Bose headphones. Unfortunately, my bose headphone is not compatible at all.
Is there any one having experiences with audio input with your headphones when you are using skype or audio recording. Which headphone is compatible with your MBA for input/output?The MacBook Air has a single headphone port. The microphone or headset in question must be of the three-ring variety, just like Apple’s headsets ......, the Macbook Air has the “headset” port, not a conventional 2-ring mic and speaker port.
Many are using this,
http://store.griffintechnology.com/imic
Youre likely going to need to get a USB headset to use with your Air. OR, standard headphones plus a USB Mic. -
Airdrop not working between iMac mid 2011 and MBA mid 2013
Hi everyone,
This week I bought a MBA 2013 for my girfriend and myself, they see eachother when attempting to use Airdrop, flawlessly transfering files. I have an iMac from mid 2011 which will not see either MacBook AIr over Airdrop. It is quite annoying to say the least. I have read around the posts here and there seems to be little to no support for this problem, which seems to afflict quite a few people.
They are all on the same network, all have file sharing enabled in system pref. and all of them clearly support Airdrop. I have deleted and re entered my Apple ID info to no avail.
Does anyone have an answer to this problem? It seems like there are enough people to warrant intervention on Apple's part.
Looking forward to any and all replies, cheers PluckaduckThis article explains:
Mac Basics: AirDrop lets you send files from your Mac to nearby Macs and iOS devices - Apple Support
From one of the Macs looking for the iMac, start AirDrop in Finder and get to the following display:
Presumably you do not see the iMac, so click the "Don't see who you're looking for" link. That will display this:
Press "Search for an Older Mac" and you'll be set! -
My airport time capsule 2TB accidentally got unplugged from the awl while in use. now you can hear and feel internal hard drive of my 2 TB spinning but all LED's won't turn on. it will not connect to my 2013 MBA or be recognized my my iPhone 5 etc. when i plug it in airport utility senses something but will not connect. please help! my entire life is on this thing.
trouble shooting thus far:
unplugged APTC 2TB & MBA
reset MBA
currently unplugged the Airport time capsule hoping to cool it off? ...In this case the TC should be in bridge mode.
Win8 is still problematic. Try using ethernet instead of wireless. I think the drivers are poor still and it is well worth having a try via ethernet if you haven't already.
Otherwise you will need to wait for apple to release bonjour for windows 8 and airport utility.. which is not out yet.
Also make sure the windows is set to home, not work or public.. even turn off the firewall.
Open windows explorer and type the TC ip address into the address bar.. (none of which is perhaps the same.. I gave away windows at vista.. shudder)

MBA (mid 2013) and Cisco Jabber Video client not recognising any camera
The Cisco Jabber Video client is not recognising the internal Facetime HD camera nor the external USB Logitech Webcam C920.
This was not working from the beginning. Cisco is aware of this issue and promised to deliver a fix in the next release of their software.
After installing the 10.8.5 Update from App Store and the 10.8.5 Supplemental update the Cisco client was able to recognize the external camera.
After that I followed a hint to install the Combo update this should enable Skype to recognise the Facetime HD camera. After installing the Combo update Skype was able to recognize the internal and external camera (by the way the quality of preview video using Facetime HD was brilliant and much better than the internal camera of a MBA from 2012). BUT after that update the Cisco client was no longer recognising a camera.
I run a recovery installation of 10.8.4 - but the result was again a 10.8.5. If I try now to run a recovery install I only get a recovery of version 10.8.5 offered.
I did a SMC reset, a parameter RAM reset, tried to start in saved mode but nothing helped.
Any other ideas how to get a least an external camera working again with Cisco Jabber Video?Similar problem here. I have a Logitech C615 camera/microphone plugged into my MAC mini running OSX 10.9.3. Today, JABBER could not find the camera (although it found the microphone?). I was running 4.5.7 and so downloaded v4.8.6 and reinstalled: no camera. I also downloaded the cloud version: no camera.
I was not running either Vidyo or Polycom RealPresence at the same time as JABBER
But, when I did run these apps, my camera & microphone both work.
Suggestions?

MBA mid-2012 does not see external display on wakeup
My mid-2012 MBA does not see external displays on wakeup. VERY annoying
I have a BenQ 24" HD display connected by HDMI and it is not seen by the Air on wakeup. I have to open the laptop, pull the mini-DV plug out 3 or 4 times before the display is recognised - some of the time. Most of the time requires a reboot with multiple cable/plug inserts.
What an absolute POS this mid-2012 MBA is! Apple finally fixed the garbage colours on external displays in 10.8.4 but the issue of recognisisng external displays remains. Its a crock. Totally regret buyiing this POS.
Have reset PRAM, SMS, cleared prefs etc etc ad nauseum. No solution with any of them. After almost a year of this garbage, the laptop is close to being thrown out as e-waste.macbook pro 13" 2012

Does my MBA mid-2013 SSD fit into OWC Envoy?
Hi Guys,
I've had the Coffee vs. Macbook Air Issue, and now i would like to be able to use my 'old' SSD as an external drive, as a bootable Win8 for 3D-drawing(Solid works)
My Question to you is, does my SSD (see pic below) fit into the OSW Convoy?
OSW Envoy:
http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/MAU3ENVOY12O/
It says it supports SSD from 2011-2012, but not 2013, and that i cant find anywhere, so i wanted to find out if its the same specs or not.
My SSD:failing sata card on your HD, very typical power issue on the failing card., which is why it works on your Imac and not your macbook Air.
HD itself is fine, the SATA bridge card is failing on your old WD drive, any meager power variance will cause this on a failing SATA card.
Does it show in disk utility on your Air?
Resolution is to get another HD for your Air, use the WD until the SATA fails on your Imac,...at which time youll have to crack it open and install it in a new enclosure. Buy a Toshiba or Hitachi next time, not a WD.
its stunning how high the failure rate is in those cards.
I've seen 3 fail on me within a few hours of big data copying and seen endless people scratch their head about what could be wrong with their external HD ...
It's that stinker 50 cent part. LoL

My macbook air mid 2013 is not working on handoff.
my iPad mini 1 and iPhone 5 is working on handoff but my macbook air is not working on handoff! can someone please help!
Same issue here: I can get my iPad Air and iPhone 6 to do handoff- but not my MacBook Air. I am running all of the most updated OS X and iOS versions on a MacBookAir Late 2010.
There seems to be a few places to check: APPLE>About This Mac>System Report>Select Blue Tooth from the Left column > Look for: 1) 4th from the top and item saying HANDOFF Supported - mine says no! Even though I have Bluetooth 4.3 software. There is apparently another item called the LMP version which has to be 0x6 - mine in 0x4. Then go into SYSTEM PREFERENCES>GENERAL>...there is supposed to be a checkbox right near the bottom just below the RECENT ITEMS count selector drop down that says ALLOW HANDOFF BETWEEN THIS MAC AND OTHER ICLOUD DEVICES - I do not have this on mine - again assuming it is because of the afore mentioned shortfalls. -
MacBook Air mid 2013 built-in keyboard trackpad
I need help! Upon a fresh install of osx 10.8.5 on my MBA mid 2013 my built-in keyboard and trackpad do not work. If I boot into recovery they work! But once I boot to my desktop at the login screen I can't control anything. I've tried repairing permissions several times, also a clean install and still nothing. For awhile the backlight was working but now that is off. If Ieave the lid open and put the computer to sleep I can press the space bar and the screen will wake up. So I'm not sure what's going on here. I'm thinking it might be a "kext" issue and when I look into the console app there is a repeated error "kernal: Error: AppleHSSPIControler: :_handelEnumerationFailureGated Giving up on device"
That's a much more useful description of your issue.
Check you last complete backup and manually update any valuable PITA to recreate replace data folders, files only (FWIW you should have TWO backups of any VIP data - apps can always be reinstalled.)
Best troubleshoot / solutions to try source I found was this. Unfortunately you have another one of those "problems" with no surefire cause or fix. Again - you may not have to complete all steps... start at the beginning and go slowly. Try a couple things and wait and see if the error reoccurs.
Second discussion - if the steps from the link can't solve the issue you may have to start over with configuration of TC.
Added second link and advice.

Macbook Air Mid-2013 crashes (kernel panic) when I stream videos online, why?
Hi!
I have an MBA mid-2013, and I had it since September 2013, running the Haswell processor as well. I never had any problems or crashes, even after upgrading to OS X Mavericks 10.9.4. Until recently (few days ago), I started streaming videos online on a website called www.crunchyroll.com in HD mode (1080p). I could get up to 4 kernel panics within a span of a few minutes. Once the mac reboots, it goes into a kernel panic almost right away. I have streamed videos before on Hulu and Netflix and other websites alike without any problems. I was thinking it might be a graphics card problem, so I switched from 1080p to 720p, I immediately got less kernel panics (1 time in 20mins). I do not know if this is relevant though. Also, I did not have any external devices plugged in at the time the kernel panics happened.
I was able to save 2 kernel panic reports, they are slightly different on the "backtrace" part so I do not know which one is more accurate.
Can anyone please check this out for me? I would be really happy if there is any fix available, so that I do not have to take my mac to the apple store.
Thank you very much!!

I just got 2 kernel panics in a row now, while running MS Excel. I never had any problems running this program until the kernel panics started a few days ago. While I have the MS Excel running, I also had Safari open with 8 tabs of just regular websites (i.e. Facebook, blog, sephora, etc.)
I copied the latest report:

Thunderbolt connection not active between iMAC Late 2013 and MBA Late 2013
Hi,
I'm not able anymore to connect again the iMac and MBA by Thunderbolt cable. Some months ago I was able to use iMac as MBA external display and to activate Thunderbolt bridge. Now, the bridge is not active also if cable is connected. Is there some steps to do to reactivate the connection.
Thank you.Hello BiagioParuolo,
Thanks for the question. It sounds like you are experiencing issues using your iMac in Target Display Mode. The following resource may provide a solution:
