MBA Thunderbold port to VGA projector. Lost touch pad pointer.

I used a minidisplay port to VGA adapter in the thunderbolt port.  The projector recognizes the MBA and I can see the display preference panel on the projector screen.  On the MBA screen I have lost the mouse pointer, but can see it on the projuected screen.  How can I adjust the MBA screen to use the touch pad?
Thanks

It sound like the calibration screen and the touch "focus" has been shifted to the "primary" display - which is the last added display adapter. I don't have the setup to test, but you might be able to fix by selecting the Touch panel as the primary display (maybe). You may be stuck because the USB adapter will always be enumerated as the last device.
Perhaps...
1) Plug in USB adapter to enable display.
2) Go into display options and select Touchscreen as Primary and make sure "extend desktop" is unchecked.
You may also be able to trick the system by going into DM and removing reinstalling the real primary display adapter.
If all fails, you should be able to unplug the USB device and use MS system restore to go back when it was working properly.
Of course, I am saying all this without having the hardware in front ofme. I've played around with mutiple displays enough to know that you get into some funny behaviour when you have two distinct video adapters installed in the system. The best multi-display solution are those driven from one adapter - one video card with an HDMI and a DVI for example.
If you figure this out, please reply back. I'd like to know if it is possible to keep touch while using another adapter.

    Hi Anusha,
The touchpad facility can normally be activated by the Fn + F9 key which will toggle the touchpad on and off.

  • HT1338 cannot connect my MacBook Air to a projector  -does not detect and 2nd monitor. I have a new Mini port to VGA cable made by apple. When I read online I see that many people have the same problem - Is this an Apple defect??????????????????

I cannot connect my MacBook Air to a projector - It will not detect a 2nd monitor or display. I am using an Apple made Mini Display port to VGA adapter. As I read online I see that many other peple are having the same problem. Is this an Apple defect!!???? If so it just burst the bubble about how great macs are. I never had a problem with that on a PC. I hope I am wrong. What can you tell me?

    Hi There,
I have had the exact same issue but with a projector.
The issue lies with Mountian Lion 10.8.2.
I tried many a combination with no luck to get HDMI working.
Took my mac into the apple store and came to the conclusion it was the software, so I asked them to install 10.8 onto it (this is destructive so a backup is a must)
Bought my macbook home and voila, now displaying through my projector.
There is a small graphics update after 10.8.1 which seems to be the cause.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • Connecting DVI Cinema Display and VGA Projector from Minidisplay Port

    Hi Everyone!
I'm trying to get my mid 2011 Mac Mini to send a signal from my MiniDisplay Port to a vga splitter which works fine. My biggest thing is that when I connect my inFocus IN112 VGA Projector the screen shows up from my mac but to connect my Cinema Display it takes VGA so I had to go from the VGA Splitter on one side and use a vga to dvi adapter and my cinema display shows blank? Help Me Please!!
    Thanks,
    Andrew

I already have a converter on the end of the VGA Splitter to go to the Cinema. The reason I don't use the hdmi to dvi is because with the minidisplay port using vga to the projector and the hdmi going to dvi to the Cinema it makes the projector screen very rough and pixely

  • Best way to hook a Mini display port to a vga projector AND a vga monitor

I am looking for the best way to hook a Mini display port to a vga projector AND a vga monitor for use in a classroom, right now I am thinking a Mini displayport adapter to a splitter.

The Thunderbolt port is the one to use; you use the same mini-DisplayPort adapter you used for the older minis.

  • CONNECT LENOVO YOGA 8 TAB TO VGA PROJECTOR

I am using LENOVO YOGA 8 tablet. I want to connect it wirelessly using following prodecure,
    1) connect my VGA projector to the LENOVO CH580 HDMI to VGA Adapter, hence i get a HDMI port for my VGA Projector
    2) connect that HDMI Male port to HDMI Female port
    3) Connect the LENOVO WIRELESS DISPLAY ADAPTER WD100-SL-IN to this HDMI FEMALE PORT.
    4) Finally using CAST SCREEN function on my LENOVO YOGA TAB 8, to connect to this LENOVO WIRELESS DISPLAY ADAPTOR.
Will this work or there is some better way to connect my VGA PROJECTOR to LENOVO YOGA 8 TABLET ?

    @Gamma30
I do this regularly with my Yoga 10.  In UK with KitKat.
I use a Tronsmart T1000 Miracast dongle which plugs into the HDMI socket of the TV, and has a separate USB lead which plugs into the TVs usb socket to supply power to the Tronsmart.  The key word in all this is "Miracast".  That is what the WD100 does but any Miracast dongle "should" work.
To "turn on" casting on the Yoga you go to Settings-Display-Cast Screen then touch the three dots top right and touch "enable wireless display".  It will search for Miracast adaptors nearby.  The Tronsmart appears.  Touch it and select "connect".
It can be a bit fiddly to get it to work first time, but persevere, it does work.  The Tronsmart, like a lot of these devices, uses EZCast software (you download it from PlayStore).  This allows you to configure the Tronsmart (confusing at first but eventually it makes sense).  Tronsmart has two modes, EZCast Mode and Miracast mode.  It has some interesting features in EZCast mode but you need to switch it to Miracast mode to get the casting to work.  You can change a Tronsmart setting to make it boot to Miracast mode by default.  This makes casting much easier in future.  If your initial experiance is like mine, expect an evening of puzzlement and iritation, but you'll get there in the end.  :-)
    Hope this helps.

  • Mini Display Port to VGA - S-Video/Composite

I'm trying to connect my MacBook Pro to (essentially to a projector) a splitter than only has inputs for S-Video and Composite. I know the only adapter is the Mini Display port to VGA. Is there a hub that I can run VGA into and output S-Video to the splitter? Will my laptop read this as a second monitor?

Yes to both questions. With the converter box linked below or something similar, a mini-Displayport to VGA adapter, and an S-video or composite video cable, you should be set to connect directly to a monitor or projector that has no VGA, DVI or HDMI inputs. It will appear as a second monitor. (A projector is just a very tiny flat-screen monitor with a big light bulb behind it and a lens in front.)

A word of caution, though: I don't know what effect your splitter may have. And if there are two or more monitors or projectors connected to the splitter, I don't know how that will work out either.

  • How do you sync macbook air to overhead VGA projector?

How do you sync a macbook air to overhead VGA projector for slide presentation?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
That depends on the set up of the projector.
What input does the projector support? Older projectors often had VGA, S-video or RCA composit video inputs. Newer ones might have HDMI or a LAN cable, some of the newest are AirPlay compatible.
Once you have determined what connector you must (or can choose) to use you pick one and open System Preferences Displays... the MBA should be detecting and showing a second monitor... your projector should be detecting and showing a input signal.  You just have to match them up resolution and refresh rate wise.
Say the projector has a resolution of 800x600. Compared with MBA's 1366x768 resolution, if you simply have it mirror the MBA, its screen is going to shrink to the point where it is more difficult to run apps (especially if you select them from the top toolbar, as everything is squashed together).
Conversely, if you choose to use the projector as a 2nd screen, it preserves the MBA's original resolution, and only affects any app drug off-screen (which is what the students will see). You will still have the main desktop available for apps to keep open (but don't want the students to see).

  • IPad to vga projector connection questions

My kids got me a 3rd gen ipad and an apple tv and I would like to do keynote presentations and display them on an older vga projector.  If it matters it would be in a place without internet.  The projector is ceiling mounted with a wall mounted vga connector that is hard wired to it.  I believe the projector can also function as a server for wireless presentations, but I don't know how to wirelessly connect that to the iPad.  To get it working either way would be great.  Any suggestions or  directions would be very appreciated.  Thanks.

Well I just now looked at the apple reviews of the mini display port to vga adapter to find that many people experience these things not working. Maybe the 3 I have are all dead. I never even thought that all the adapters I have might be defective. All other apple display adapters I have (that are are much older) still work. I have some display adapters that are probably 10 years old that still work great (mini dvi to dvi adapter crica 2004). Anyways I just ordered a new one and will report back after I have a chance to test it out.

  • Connect mac book to vga projector

    Hi,

Look for a minidisplay port to VGA cable.  The Thunderbolt port will act as a minidisplay port if required.
    Ciao.

  • Connecting iMac to VGA projector problems

I have just connected my Mac to a new NEC VGA projector via thundertbolt with thunderbolt-VGA adapter.   Even though I have done evrything that's recommended for the display differences in both the mac and the projector, the image remains poor, blurry, with a overall fuchsia tint.
    What should I do?

The Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter is what works in the Thunderbolt Port.
see > thunderbolt to VGA - Apple Store (U.S.)
Did you try a different VGA cable like I suggested...?
Did you try a different Adapter like I suggested...? If not, then take that adapter to your local AASP and have them test it.

  • Is there a way to connect a VGA projector to my 27" iMac?

There doesn't seem to be any kind of mini display port on my 27" iMac.  Anyone know how I can connect to a VGA projector?

If it's a new iMac it has a Thunderbolt port with a lightning bolt icon. You can plug a mini-display port VGA adapter into it. If it doesn't have a Thunderbolt it has the same shaped port with a little computer monitor looking icon (I think). Then use same VGA adapter and VGA cable.
Your sig says G5 but that can't be right if you have a 27" so please update your profile. Which model iMac do you have?

  • Jittery image on VGA projectors with MBP

Recently I have had trouble projecting presentations from my MacBook Pro (15", early 2011, OS 10.8.3, 8 GB RAM) to several different VGA projectors. I am using a mini-Display to VGA adapter and use 2-screen mode (not mirroring). Initially, everything is fine - the projected image looks clean, but after a while, lines start to zigzag and jitter - as if someone was physically bumping the projector (or like a bad TV signal). This gets progressively worse and makes it nearly impossible to give a professional presentation (which I am required to do for my job). I have bought a brand-new miniDisplay-VGA adapter - no improvement! I am very careful to make sure that connections and cables are all solid. The same problem does NOT exist for external monitors hooked up via DVI or HDMI adapters/cables. Any suggestions/ideas?

First I tried flicker filter, and it helped some of the photos, but others became even worse! (The entire image shakes now instead of just portions.) I removed the flicker filter and tried the de-interlace filter, and that produced about the same results. I would try editing the photos separately in Adobe Photoshop, but before I delve into that I would like to set up an external video monitor. Unfortunately I've wasted about two days, and I can't seem to get it to work. I first tried by connecting the iMac to a Sony camcorder and connecting the camcorder to the video port on my television. No joy. Then I tried connecting the iMac via a mini-DVI to video adapter to my television. I thought my old television might be the problem, so I connected instead to the video port on a projector, and it still didn't work! I've changed the display settings and deleted certain preferences files, to no avail. My iMac doesn't seem to recognize the external display. I'm beginning to doubt this Mac purchase. Thanks for any help you can provide!

  • How can I charge my iPad 2 when I'm already using the port for a projector?

I run training workshops all day and want to use my iPad to run Keynote or PowerPoint through a projector. I already have the VGA adaptor and that all works fine. Trouble is, the battery only lasts half the day. So I have to swap over to a netbook for the rest of that day while the iPad charges...
Is there a double-adaptor that will allow me to plug the charger in as well as the VGA adaptor?
Seems such an obvious thing to want to do but I've looked all over for an adaptor and I haven't found one...
How can you charge an iPad if the only port on it is already occupied?
    Cheers
    Steve

    Hi Texas Mac Man
Thanks for your suggestion. Kinda means I have to buy a wireless-capable projector. Most of the VGA projectors in the venues I work with are fixed-in-the-ceiling and not wireless capable...
My luck with doing off-the-mainstream stuff like jailbreak etc is that (1) it won't work for me, or (2) it all goes horribly wrong, stuffs up my machine and voids the warranty... So I tend to stick to the proprietory stuff.
Not very adventurous, but then I need dependable stuff with a warranty and someone I can yell at to fix it.
Maybe Apple will read this and provide a risk-free solution.
    You never know....
    But thank you.
