MBAM 2.5 installation

Hi
I am going to install MBAM 2.5 in our environment. I have slight concern which I would like to clarify with MBAM experts. I have multiple domain and as per MBAM document MBAM 2.5 support multiple domain forest. So what precautions should I keep in mind while
setup MBAM 2.5 as per best practice. What is the criteria to select domain in which I have to install MBAM 2.5
Pls advise
Regards
Govind

Client Need to be able to reach the mbam web Server and you have to configure the gpo´s in the Domain the Client resides.
from TechNet
Support for multi-forest support deployments
MBAM 2.5 supports the following types of multi-forest deployments:
Single forest with single domain
Single forest with a single tree and multiple domains
Single forest with multiple trees and disjoint namespaces
Multiple forests in a central forest topology
Multiple forests in a resource forest topology
There is no support for forest migration (going from single to multiple, multiple to single, resource to across the forest, etc.), or upgrade or downgrade.
The prerequisites for deploying MBAM in multi-forest deployments are:
Forest must be running on supported versions of Windows Server.
A two-way or one-way trust is required. One-way trusts require that the server’s domain trusts the client’s domain. In other words, the server’s domain is pointed at the client’s domain.

  • MBAM 2.0 - Installation with a Powershell script.

    Hi All,
Can someone suggest me how to install all of the features of MBAM 2.0 in a single server configuration with a power-shell script. I am not getting any documentation on it. And my own methods are not working.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Gaurav Ranjan

David, I am following the very same for the powershell commands to install MBAM features.
Manoj, there is not any reason behind this.. I am doing this for my own just for a development so that we can automate the whole process.
I am installing the MBAM features in a single server configuration. IIS, Dot.Net, ASP.NET MVC2 and SQL has been successfully installed. now it's time to install MBAM features. As it is a single server configuration I have to instal all of the features on
this server. When I am running powershell commands to run the MBAM features one by one, i am unable to do so.
With some research I found that, You can not install MBAM DB features one by one. You have to install it al together. Then in next turn, I have to install MBAM compliance and Audit report and in last MBAM web server.
Please intimate me if I am wrong.
Now after following this scenario, I tried one more shot and I have added all of the features in a single powershell command. I tried the mahnual installation and figured out the requirements needed in a single server configuration and I followed the following
    powershell command:-
    MbamSetup.exe /qb /l*v MaltaServerInstall.log TOPOLOGY=0
    I_ACCEPT_ENDUSER_LICENSE_AGREEMENT=1 ADDLOCAL=KeyDatabase,ReportsDatabase,
    Reports,AdministrationMonitoringServer,SelfServiceServer,PolicyTemplate
    REPORTS_USERACCOUNT=[UserDomain]\[UserName1] REPORTS_USERACCOUNTPW=[UserPwd1]
    COMPLIDB_SQLINSTANCE=%computername% RECOVERYANDHWDB_SQLINSTANCE=%computername%
    SRS_INSTANCENAME=%computername% ADMINANDMON_WEBSITE_PORT=83 WEBSITE_PORT=83
I have done all the steps with different powershell like one for IIS and another for .net and another for SQL. Now I am going to combine all those scripts and will create a single script. i will let you know the result when I will be done.
Meanwhile Manoj and David, I would request you to look into the some of my unanswered post in MBAM forum. That will be a great help. Manoj, can I send you mails on your ID which I have used earlier to have a communication with you.

This is a Windows© Communication Foundation service.
Metadata publishing for this service is currently disabled.
only thing which i deviated from process was because of some condition i have to rename my MBAM server before installation however by before rename SQL and IIS was installed.
i will really appreciate any help in this regard.

If that is the only link or admin console as well then if anyone can confirm what rights difference a user get when he is member of MBAM helpdesk, MBAM Advanced Helpdesk and MBAM Administrator group.
Also if i can get any help with the self service portal redirection then that will be really helpful. i was also checking if this could be because of any kind of certificate issue as server name was renamed after SQL and IIS installation.

  • MBAM 2.5 in Multi-Forest with two way trust

    Hi All,
If we have two forests with two way trust, say A and B. If MABM 2.5 is setup in domain A and the urls used in the GPO of domain B to make the clients report to MABM. What additional steps do we need to take to ensure all functionality work fine namely
    - Users from domain B logging in to the self service of MBAM. How will the authentication work? Do we need to add All users from Domain B to any group?
    - Also I read that the Self Service website should not be hosted over the internet as per Microsoft. Why is it?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Regards,
    Vijay

You have to define the group policies in all of the domains where the client resides and place the MBAM Web server in the root domain. Make sure the client can access the MBAM service endpoints. If clients can access the endpoints, you only need to define
the MBAM GPO's to the domain where client resides.

  • MBAM 1.0 will not unistall (keeps rolling back)

    Hello,
I am trying to update MBAM 1.0  to 2.0 but i am unable to uninstall. It will go though the motions of uninstalling but then it rolls back without any errors. Does anyone have any thoughts on how i can fix this issue without losing any data? I am running
    Windows 2008 R2
    Brian Gallagher

Check the issue in the log file created in the temp folder.
You should un-install MBAM 1.0 by running the MBAM 1.0 installer. Make sure each and every components of MBAM 1.0 remains intact and go in a sequenced manner. Only un-install the MBAM Administration Server.

When I try to uninstall MBAM 2.1 from our SQL server it gives me an "Invalid Drive S:\" error message
I tried from Add Remove Programs and also by running the setup program....both gave me the same error message.
    Any ideas?

  • Uninstalling MBAM 1.0 SetDnsHost error

I have a Two Server Setup for MBAM 1.0 currently.  I was in the process of documenting my MBAM 2.0 installation in my lab when I ran into a problem of not being able to successfully uninstall MBAM 1.0 from the SQL Server.  I found http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/mdopmbam/thread/012d5ebd-17d5-42d4-aeea-38b86307c944.
I verified I am a domain admin, and local administrator of the server.  Checked the permissions from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2754138. Rebooted the server. I'm still getting an error shortly after mbamcreategroupsdeferred step runs in the UI and
in the log file is throwing an error SetDnsHost return 1603. From what I can tell my server is able to contact the Domain and DNS just fine.
I am including a snippet of the log file that I feel is causing me the issues.  I'm just not having any luck finding any information on the SetDNSHost error.  If anyone has any information or suggestions I'd be grateful for them.  It is my
test lab, but I'm hesitant to more into production until I can get this figured out.  Thanks!

Well after a few days of checking our Certificate Authority in our lab, verifying certificates and network communication we finally solved the issue.  Again this was a lab environment, but I wanted to know how to fix this should I run into the issue
    in production.
In the Registry under HKLM | Software | Microsoft | Microsoft BitLocker Administration and Monitoring | Setup, there is a NetCert Value that corresponds to the Certificate Thumbprint or Certificate Hash value.  On my Test Lab Database, this value was
incorrect and did not match the value in my Server Authentication certificate.  Once I changed the value to match and rebooted the servers, I was able to successfully uninstall MBAM 1.0 from the Database/Report Server.
After finding this solution in my lab I was then also able to verify that my production servers registry value and Certificate Thumbprint match as they are supposed to.  Hopefully I will not any issues when I go into production with my upgrade to MBAM
    2.0.

  • Remove Configuration Manager Integration

I have an MBAM 2.0 installation that I'm getting ready to upgrade to 2.5. It was installed with Configuration Manager integration. I would like to decouple this from Configuration Manager, and since the upgrade process is to basically uninstall the existing
version and install the new version, when I'm installing the new version, can I just opt not to install with the integration? And then remove the MBAM bits from the Configuration Manager server?

When removing MBAM installation from ConfigMgr, you will need do delete its IIS site, MBAM collection and Reports from viewer. Keep the database.
I understand, you want to install 2.5 as a stand-alone, right? I suggest you do this:
    1. Upgrade existing database with MBAM 2.0 SP1 installer program. Install only DP role and keep DP names intact.
    2. In another IIS & SQL server, import database and run 2.5 installation program with desired roles. (sure you can install same stuff on CM without integration, but why do that?).

  • MBAM 2.5 Web Applications installation - "Web service application pool account is not valid"

    Hi,
I've created a Server 2012R2 installation to install MBAM 2.5. When installing the Web Applications I keep getting "The web service application pool account is not valid".
The account I am using is a standard domain account with admin rights on the Server and I've also set the SPN (both netbios and FQDN) and Delegation.
This account is also a member of the group that is defined as RW of the SQL databases (which were setup without any problem and are on a separate  Server 2008R2, SQL 2008R2 installation.
I am also getting an error with the SSRS URL , stating "SQL Server Reporting Services URL that points to the MBAM reports is not valid", despite being able to browse to the http://[FQDN]/ReportServer_MBAM location.
    Thanks.

I got this kind of error when I revert back my virtual machine a lot to my previous checkpoints. I hope this can't be an issue for you.
Make sure the application pool account must have the following login roles on the SQL server and have following rights on the reporting instance:-
    Required SQL Server permissions
The user responsible for installing MBAM database and reporting feature must have the local administrator privileges and the following log in permission:-
SQL Server instance login server roles:
    dbcreator
    processadmin
SQL Server Reporting Services instance rights:
    Create Folder
    Publish Reports
SQL Server Database Engine Services: SQL Server Database Engine Services must be installed and running during MBAM Server installation.
SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS): SSRS must be installed and running during the MBAM Server installation. Configure SSRS in "native" mode and not in "SharePoint" mode.

    Ours is SSRS 2012.
URL http://yourserver.fqdn.com:/ReportServer will not work, needs the path to the ConfigMgr reports after ReportServer

The URL http://server.fqdn.com/ReportServer is correct. I believe the reason for the error is you have to provide permission to the MBAM service accounts within the SSRS panel found at
http://server.fqdn.com/Reports. There are two places where you can add security and permissions from within SSRS reports URL (Site Settings).
One way you can tell you are going to have an issue before even beginning the MBAM configuration wizard is to enter the
http://server.fqdn.com/ReportServer URL in IE from the MBAM server. If you are prompted for credentials the installation wizard will certainly fail. So, you need to verify that the service account you used in
the SSRS configuration has admin rights on the MBAM server, and hat the MBAM service account that you are using have admin access to the SSRS server.
I think it is clear the issues most of us in this tread are having are permissions based... it is just figuring out where that permissions issue is that is the problem.
See points 5 and 6 of this KB, if you can't hit the SSRS URLs from MBAM server's IE - you're going to get a failure.

EDIT, WE HAVE RESOLVED THE ISSUE!
In this MBAM 2.5 server configuration guide we inadvertently added a setting that was meant for SINGLE SERVER configuration, while we are using a MULTIPLE SERVER configuration. Link - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn645331.aspx
    We added
    2. Add <RSWindowsNegotiate/> to the rsreportserver.config file as follows:
Which broke the app. We went back and removed <RSWindowsNegotiate/> from rsreportserver.config and it worked without issue.

  • MBAM 2.0 SP1 installation error

    Hi,
I am trying to install the MBAM 2.0 SP1 but when it checks for prerequisites it keeps showing me this error:
Requires SQL Reporting Services instances not available - Resolution: The required instance of SQL Reporting Services is not available or it is not configured
correctly. Make sure that the SQL Reporting Services are running and configured with a valid Web Service URL and that the current user has access permissions to the instance.
I don't understand what can I do about it, I am logged in with the domain administrator. I also don't understand the part about the URL
because when I added this feature I wasn't askes to add a URL..
    Thanks for your help!

Can you browse the reporting URL from the MBAM web server with the current user credentials.
Reporting URL will be : "http://<SQL Reporting Server>/ReportServer"
I am guessing that you are getting this error during installation of MBAM web server features. Make sure the user has rights on the MBAM databases. And should be a member of MBAM reports user.

  • MBAM client installation

    Hi,
I am encountering MBAM client installation issues on some Windows7 64bit HP laptop and tablets (same hardware is used for all clients). MBAM with SCCM topology environmnet is in place and tested OK on 32bit and 64bit systems but on some i am getting
difficulties installing the client and if i ran the installation manually i get an error message saying that "Microsoft Bitlocker Management client is already installed on the computer. You must unistall it before attempting a reinstall" knowing
that the bitlocker option does not show up in control panel and also does not show up in Programs and feature.
The installation is done through SCCM 2012
    Any suggestions..?
    Thank You

    Hi,
From the log, it does not give us more info. I think the problem is caused by the MBAM that thinks it is already installed on the computer.
I suggest you manually run MBAM client, then utilize Process Monitor to see what is going on. Maybe we can get something.
