MBL , nvidia driver and CS5

I am having an issue with MBL (CS5 version) .  I get a "Not Responding" message when I open the EDIT section of the plugin.  The screen turns black then white then the message.
I have contaced Red Giant  and they say:
Update for Case # 16565
Hello Craig,
We currently have a compatibility issue with the latest Nvidia Driver. Can you try reverting to an older version of the Nvidia driver and let me know if this resolves your issue?
Thanks,
-Nate
Would you do this in a system that is working perfectly otherwise?  (WIn 7, Quadro FX3800 etc...)
Can anyone let me know what version of the NVIDIA driver they are using please.  How do I know what is current and what to roll back to?
RDA   -   I have sent you a PM because I know it works for you as tested yesterday.

I don't mind you posting my PMs for the common good.
Now, regarding the nvidia drivers for the Quadro cards, version 266.35 was available fro download until yesterday or early today when it was replaced by version 266.45 which broke MBL on my machine as explained in my PM.
Once I removed the HD audio driver, which is part of the nvidia package, MBL was working again.
Here is what I suggest you should do :
1. Download and install the 266.45 drivers.
2. Remove the nvidia HD Audio driver in the "Uninstall or change a program" panel..
3. Launch PPro and apply a MBL effect to a clip and see if my solution works for you.
Good luck (nod to Bill)

I think the new xorg-server is the problem as it isn't supported by this nvidia driver yet.
You could try to install the nouveau driver until nvidia comes with a new version of the 173 branch that supports xorg-server 1.10, see: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Nouveau for information. As lower-grade options, you might also consider xf86-video-nv and xf86-video-vesa.
Should i uninstall nvidia driver, then install it?
I think thats the easy way yes, else you have to blacklist the nvidia kernel module.. check the wiki link of nouveau for details.

  • Do I have to uninstall the CS4 software before updating the NVIDIA driver and reinstall CS4 after?

I have just installed CS4 on Windows 7 and I get the message that I need to update NVIDIA driver.
Is it really neccassary to update driver even if I have no problems using Photoshop?
Do I have to uninstall the CS4 software before updating the NVIDIA  driver and reinstall CS4 afterwards or is there a way around it?
    Here are the technical details:
    Processor speed: 3325 MHz
    Video Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
Video Card Renderer: GeForce GT 220/PCI/SSE2
    OpenGL Drawing: Enabled.
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 220
    Video Mode: 1680 x 1050 x 4294967296 colors
    Video Card Driver: nvd3dum.dll,nvwgf2um.dll,nvwgf2um.dll
    Driver Version: 8.15.11.8627
    Built-in memory: 3063 MB
    Free memory: 1981 MB
Memory available to Photoshop: 1643 MB
Memory used by Photoshop: 60 %
    Image cache levels: 4

I have never had to reinstall any program for a video driver.
Now, check out the instructions for your particular nVidia driver, and the exact steps can differ. Just did my Quadro FX-4500 and it was just an install over the older driver. However, looking at another nVidia card's driver, and there were 3-4 settings in the nVidia console, that had to be reset BEFORE installing that driver. Did not affect me, but would have been a different operation for the next guy, with a different nVidia card. nVidia makes it easy with the necessary instructions - follow those to the letter, or issues can arise and the entire driver can get hosed. Things could be a simple as download, and execute, to having to do several things before you execute.
    Good luck,

  • Nvidia Driver and system "hang" issue

    Hi all,
This is my first post on these forums but im not new to Mac or windows. Here's my issue. I just installed a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate RTM on my Macbook. Its the first unibody Macbook 2.4ghz w/ 4gigs of ram. Nvidia 9400M graphics.
2 Things happen, one is that a few times a day ill get a "Nvidia Windows Kernel mode driver, version 186.81 failed" error. The symtoms of which are a black screen for a few seconds and then the driver restarts and all is well.
I know 186.81 is the latest 9400M driver. So im not sure why this happens but maybe it relates to my other issue.
My second issue is that the system will, as best as i can describe it, "hang" for a second or two. When i say hang i do not mean freeze to the point of needing to restart, its more that the "hang" happens and a few seconds later its as if nothing happened (this issue is very fequent).
Anyone else ever see or hear anything like this? Please let me know if there is a better place to post this question as well.
    Thanks!
P.S. Posted this somewhere else and got 1 reply so far, pasted below:
Okay, how about uninstall or roll back the driver?
    use Driver Sweeper 2
just let Windows 7 install its own driver
more like the hang is hard drive has spun down
I would recommend creating your own thread and question instead.

Hello guys and thanks for your answers.
I thought that my problem was linked to UEFI, so I reinstalled the os with BIOS and MBR. Unfortunately I had the same problem, with one difference: the auto/default resolution of GRUB and FrameBuffer was 800x600 instead of 1920x1080 for UEFI.
About the nouveau driver, I need 3D acceleration to play games so I need the proprietary driver.
So I decided to test the X server to see if something got wrong.
I uninstalled the nvidia driver and reboot to have my framebuffer back.
    Then I edit the ~/.xinitrc file :
        xterm & sleep 10
I reinstalled the nvidia driver and reboot : GRUB, then framebuffer for 1 second, then a black screen.
I tried to log in: login + [Enter] + password + [Enter]
I waited 2s then I entered the "startx" command.
And the xterm window appeared. And the best is after the 10s the X server shuts down and the framebuffer was back !!! Unbelievable !!!
So I continued the installation : Gnome + Gdm.
After the reboot : Grub, then framebuffer for 1 second, then a black screen, then Gdm login screen !!!
So it seems to be a problem with nvidia driver and the framebuffer.
After the Gnome + Gdm installation I managed to display the framebuffer in tty2. But I don't know if tty2 was working before (when tty1 only display black screen).
My conclusion and installation tip is to not reboot after the nvidia driver installation and to install a desktop environment + a display manager and to pray to not have problem.

  • NVIDIA driver and tty resolution on UEFI system

I managed to install archlinux on my new computer which has the UEFI system.
My first problem was the not display of the framebuffer (boot message) after the GRUB menu and before tty.
The problem was the framebuffer doesn't support higher resolution than 800x600x32. If I put an higher resolution I just have a black screen during the framebuffer phase.
Whatever the resolution I chose for the framebuffer, I get a tty with a 1280x1080 resolution. But I don't know why or how.
Then I installed X and the nvidia driver. After that the tty was not displayed (just a black screen). GRUB menu was well displayed and framebuffer was only displayed in 800x600 resolution.
I suspect the nvidia is not able to display tty in high resolution.
But I don't know how to lower the tty resolution to check that.
Here is my way to force GRUB menu and framebuffer to 800x600 resolution :
    /etc/default/grub
    GRUB_GFXMODE=800x600x32
    GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=keep
Could someone explain to me why my tty resolution switch to 1280x1080 while the framebuffer is set to 800x600.
And if someone knows how to configure the nvidia driver to display high resolution in framebuffer and tty?
    My desktop config:
    * Motherboard ASUS P8Z77-V LX
    * Graphic card MSI GeForce GTX 660 N660-2GD5/OC
    * UEFI system
    * SATA hard drive with GPT with first partiton: 512MiB FAT 32 UEFI system partition

They should be in the PKGBUILD, its a split PKGBUILD currently I think.

  • Problem with nvidia driver and GeForce 8800

    Hi,
I installed nvidia driver with guide on arch wiki.
But unluckily when i typed "startx", my monitor lost signal and i dont have any other option then restart computer.
This is not for the first time when it happened. I have exactly same problem in every other distribution.
I have GeForce 8800gts and LCD monitor Samsung SyncMaster 204b.
And there isnt problem with hardware because in MS Windows or with VESA driver it works fine.
    Here is mine Xorg.conf
    http://www.blankpage.ic.cz/xorg.conf
Please, have somebody any ideas how to make it works?

Your not the only one with nividia problems
But on a more serious note, have you tried all configuration steps outlined in the Arch Wiki?

  • NVIDIA card and CS5

Hello, which newest NVIDIA cards work best with CS5?  The video cards listed for NVIDIA are old...
    thanks,
    Craig

Not sure what you are really asking. All of them "work", given you have installed them correctly, but "best"? It's pretty much a moot point, at least with AE. It uses OpenGL so sparingly, it's really irrelevant. Every contemporary card will fullfill these requirements. You could throw in a 3 year old card from the 20 bucks budget tray and you'd see no difference to a 400 buck higher-end one. That pretty much applies not only to AE, but to some extent to Photoshop and all otehr programs. The only notable exception here would be Premiere Pro if you want to use the Mercury playback engine, but if you don't - well, save some money, buy at best a mid-range card.

  • Hard Drives and video card for new CS5 system

I've read through much of the threads in the hardware forums and find I still have questions.  I am just beginning to learn how to edit and it is not a source of income for me at the moment.  My sources will be from tapes from my Canon HV20 and at some point either a Panasonic GH2, Canon 60D or similar.
    I have bought the following:
    ASUS P6X58D-E motherboard
    24 GB of Patriot Sector 7 DDR3 1333MHz memory (9-9-9-24)
    Intel i7-950 3.06 GHz CPU
I plan to use Cineform NEO or maybe NEO HD to ingest my files.
    I also have 4 Seagate 750GB 7200.11 hard drives I can use.
It seems like the best bang for the buck for a video card is a GTS 450 at about $100 because I can't find any data that indicates a GTX 460 or a GTX 570 would make any difference (see http://www.studio1productions.com/Articles/PremiereCS5.htm)
As far as hard drives goes, Harm's article on creating separate storage makes sense to me.  It seems like I could create a "4 drive" system quite easily (see http://forums.adobe.com/thread/662972).  Given that I am not ready to spend moeny on an Areca card until I can develop my skills,  I am wondering if I should get one of the new WD Velociraptor 600GB (SATA 6) drives as my system drive for about $280, a 150 GB (SATA 3) Velociraptor drive for about $100, or some other fast drive.
Given that my motherboard can support RAID, should I consider RAIDing the "D" drive or the "E and F" drives?
Is there any value to using an SSD drive for the "E" drive (page file and media cache) [see http://forums.adobe.com/thread/662972]?  Microcenter has a 64GB drive for $100.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Harm,
First let me say, I didn't mean to exclude Bill Gehrke.  I just didn't know what was what.  Thank you for explaining that to me.  Let me also say the you and Bill have a great site.
I have a question for you,  in the tests I have run with my systems, I am not seeing any speed difference between the 450 and 480.  Now granted, they are AMD processors and I know they don't have the SSE 4.1+. Here are my systems that I ran the tests on:
An AMD X4 Quad Core computer running at 2.9 Ghz with 12 gigs of RAM and a single Samsung 7200 rpm SATA 3.0Gb/s hard drive
An AMD X6 Six Core computer running at 3.2 Ghz with 12 gigs of RAM and a single Samsung 7200 rpm SATA 3.0Gb/s hard drive
Both computers were running the same version of the NVidia driver and all non-essential programs were disabled.
When I test the 450 and the 480 in the AMD X4 system, they are turning in pretty much the same level of performance, in that system.
The same holds true with the AMD X6, the 450 and 480 turn in virtually the same level of performance, in this system.
The AMD X6 with either the 450 or 480 does turn in a better performance over the AMD X4 with either video card.
The question.... Are you seeing result that are like this?  Where using the exact same computer, turns in the same results with different video cards.
From the number of emails I get about the article, other have reported this to me also.  I have had a few people who said when they did see a minor speed increase when they did switch between a 450 and a 480 and a couple who did see a good speed increase.
I am working on changing the article to reflect this and would really appreciate your input or Bills input on this.
I have looked at your benchmark chart and read through the result, but one thing that concerns me when reading some of the results is what programs do they have running in background, if any.  And how is that effecting their performance.  That is why I used the two systems I listed above to do the tests with.  It gives me a controlled enviroment to do test the performance of the video cards in.
As a side note, when I tested the 450 and 480 cards in a friends Intel I7 system, again we didn't see any performance difference between the two video cards, but he did have some programs running in background which may have caused the perfornce results I got.
    Best Regards
    David Knarr

  • Laggy performance with Nvidia driver

    Greetings,
I am trying to use my nvidia 9800 GTX card with the Nvidia driver in the official repos.  I have a dual monitor setup with gnome 3.10 installed.  Everything is snappy with the default configurations with the Noveau driver.
A typical extended desktop environment would be preferable.  From what I understand from the multihead and multiple monitor sections of the wiki is that twinview or xinerama would accomplish this, but it is mentioned that xinerama does not work for this newer version of the nvidia driver.  I used nvidia-settings to set up the monitors in the right location and saved the config file to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-monitor.conf as suggested in the wiki. I tried making some configuration changes to the tune of the examples in the wiki, but every change I make seems to result in an even buggier or unbootable x server.  I scrapped the nvidia driver and installed noveau to test it out, now  I'm back to the initial configuration on the nvidia driver.
The display configuration is actually what I want now, but the system feels overly heavy and laggy.   Any suggestions?
Here is the output of my (Corrected) most recent xorg log

Is it safe to conclude that I did not properly install the nvidia driver since the output in the xorg file shows that nouveau module is being loaded?  I am not sure where I went wrong since the wiki says to simply
    pacman -S nvidia nvidia-utils
and the nouveau driver will be automatically blacklisted and the nvidia driver installed.
I found this https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NV … au_drivers which provides a script for switching between nvidia and nouveau drivers. It states the scripts may be
out of date and the sed lines not necessary.  From what I see there was no "nouveau" module being loaded in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf.
As of now I removed the nvidia and nvidia-utils packages and reinstalled the nouveau driver as described in the wiki.  It is quick and stable now, but does not look nearly as nice as it would be with the proprietary drivers.  My system was incredibly buggy and unstable with the nvidia drivers installed, which I just don't understand.  My keyboard would not work at the login screen, and would complain about mounting some partitions I have in fstab.
Here is the current information from my system:

    # MODULES
    # The following modules are loaded before any boot hooks are
    # run. Advanced users may wish to specify all system modules
    # in this array. For instance:
    # MODULES="piix ide_disk reiserfs"
    MODULES=""
    # BINARIES
    # This setting includes any additional binaries a given user may
    # wish into the CPIO image. This is run last, so it may be used to
    # override the actual binaries included by a given hook
    # BINARIES are dependency parsed, so you may safely ignore libraries
    BINARIES=""
    # FILES
    # This setting is similar to BINARIES above, however, files are added
    # as-is and are not parsed in any way. This is useful for config files.
    FILES=""
    # HOOKS
    # This is the most important setting in this file. The HOOKS control the
    # modules and scripts added to the image, and what happens at boot time.
    # Order is important, and it is recommended that you do not change the
    # order in which HOOKS are added. Run 'mkinitcpio -H <hook name>' for
    # help on a given hook.
    # 'base' is _required_ unless you know precisely what you are doing.
    # 'udev' is _required_ in order to automatically load modules
    # 'filesystems' is _required_ unless you specify your fs modules in MODULES
    # Examples:
    ## This setup specifies all modules in the MODULES setting above.

  • Cannot load nvidia driver module [SOLVED]

OK so for some reason I can no longer load the nvidia (proprietary) driver.
I have a laptop with optimus, on board intel and discrete nvidia GTX680M. I use this laptop for cuda development so I don't care about games etc, I just need the driver loaded to debug and run my cuda  apps. bbswitch still works fine as does bumblebee which I don't use normally but I do have it setup and running in case. Also I didn't really work much on coding last week so not sure exactly when this started.
So here is what happens when I try to insert the nvidia module or use optirun:
    $ sudo modprobe nvidia
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'nvidia': No such device
    $ sudo insmod nvidia
insmod: ERROR: could not load module nvidia: No such file or directory
    $ optirun -vv glxspheres

So in simple terms, the fix invovled ensuring the nvidia module is loaded before the bbswitch module. I'm not sure about the necessity of the things that follow but the fix may possibly also require removing bumblebee and possibly requires removing nvidia from repos and building the driver downloaded from nvidia.
This fix could be completely unrelated to the problems I was having with arch but I cannot verify the fix on arch specifically cos I installed every distro under the sun trying to get it all working and I got it to work on a non arch distro.
So... I'm not sure if I should really mark this a solved because I haven't/can't verify it on arch and technically the solution involved changing to another distro but in fact, I know it has absolutely nothing to do with arch since I saw the same behaviour on 3 other distros. If I have time, I will reinstall arch and verify but for the moment, I have a lot of work to catch up on now that I have a working nvidia driver I can actually use for dev
Anyway, what I think is going on is there is some bizarre issue with bbswitch that stops the nvidia driver from being found because on the current distro I have installed, if I have no bbswitch, no bumblebee and no nvidia modules loaded or services running etc. I can modprobe the nvidia driver and all works fine. I can then modprobe the bbswitch driver and that works too. IF I modprobe the bbswitch driver first and then modprobe the nvidia driver, I get this error that says the nvidia module cant be found. The location it prints is in some updates directory whcih is odd too because I installed from nvidia source and never installed updates at all and made sure that there were absolutely no repo nvidia drivers or updates etc.

  • W510 problems with Nvidia driver recovery under Windows 7 (64 bit)?

Lenovo W510, Nvidia Qudardo FX 880M video, FHD:
What I'm seeing on occasion is a Windows 7 (64-bit) recovery, screen blanks out, goes 2-3 seconds, then recovers, things go back to normal, but a message displays saying that an error was detected in the video driver, and it has recovered. The new Firefox (4.0.1) seems to be one of the things that may be a contribution, hard to tell.  Per System Update at least, I'm current on the Lenovo downloads. SIW shows the driver level as 8.17.12.5738 (2010-06-27). Nvidia web-site shows their current driver level on the wen-site as 270.61 (2011-04-18), which is a considerably newer date at least. So two questions:
Has anyone else seen Driver/Recovery issues on Win 7 (64)
Has anyone directly run the Nvidia video drivers and had them run OK?
Seems like it would be nice for Lenovo to update their drivers, if indeed this is a driver issue, they appear back-level.

I used to have this problem with my W510 running Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit, especially Firefox 4 crashing the Nvidia display driver almost constantly. I googled and found that this is a known problem between older Nvidia driver and Firefox 4. Later on I downloaded the latest version of Nvidia driver from Lenovo website (it was not posted on the System Update server yet but was available on the regular download site). I clean-installed it (i.e., removing all files and settings created by the old driver) and I haven't experienced the problem since then.

  • [Solved] Starcraft 2 crashe with wine bunblebee nvidia driver

After the upgrade of yesterday (2013/05/12) my starcraft II (under wine) crashes.
After a downgrade of the nvidia driver ( and linux kernel ) my SCII is running once again perfectly, so I guess there is something wrong between the new nvidia driver (319.17-2) and the following package : bumblebee (3.2.1-1), wine (1.5.30-2) .
I'm a little buzzy actually and didn't take time to check deeply why, but if someone wants some data just ask
    humhumhum
Edit: the package bunmblebee has been updated and solves the problem. Thanks.

Do other GL programs work? e.g. glxgears. Is direct rendering enabled? (glxinfo | grep -i direct)

  • LATEST NVIDIA DRIVER OR MSI OLDER DRIVER

I'm currently using MSI 311.06 driver but NVIDIA has already released version 320.18.
Should I update to NVIDIA driver and why?

newest drivers include fixes and peformance optimizations
so try latest one, go back to msi one only if you have issues with nvidia one

  • Kde screen resolution with nvidia driver

    Hi,
I am completely new to ArchLinux.  I really enjoyed installing it and its a hoot to play around with!
I am having a problem getting the screen resolution to work well with the monitor and the resolution with KDE 4.3.  I found that by changing the resolution to 1024x768 and changing the refresh rate to 53 or 54hz, the fonts that otherwise display horribly with the nvidia driver and installed nvidia card will suddenly become beautiful.  I went to Kmenu, Settings, then display settings, and changed the configuration, and everything worked great.
But on next boot up after I have shut down the computer, X doesn't remember these settings and the fonts look terrible again.  If I open the kmenu again and look at the display settings, they are still set at 1024x768 and 54 hz.  Once I have looked at them, the screen on the monitor goes dark for a second.  Then the computer knows that I want those settings without me changing anything, and adjusts to them without having to hit the apply button.  Then the fonts look great again.
How can I get the display to start with those settings?  I have tried several configurations of the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file without success, so I need some help.
    Thanks

I know some time back using nvidia driver with my particular monitor, i had to tell it what resolution/refresh rate to use by default or else X would make a poor choice as to what it wanted the default to be (put me in 800x600 or something like that  by default).  I was able to tell X to default to what I wanted by adding in a Metamode line in my xorg.conf, i think under the screen section. I'm out right now and won't be back to my box to look up exactly what I did, but hopefully this might give a starting point if you havent tried it already.  Metamodes in xorg.conf under the Display section if i remember right.  I specified a resolution there and it now uses that as the default.
