Mbox Mini and Logic for school. Question?

I am going to Fullsail in Orlando, Florida in Jan. 2008. They teach Pro Tools HD there, but just added Logic Pro to the Recording Arts program. I'm thinking of buying a mbox mini and Logic Express to get more familiar with both programs before going to school.
Will the mbox mini work as an interface for Logic? I'm just trying to avoid buying a separate interface. I'll buy one if I have to. What about the Emu 0202 USB ($129.00)?
Thanks for any and all help.

Thanks. I'm actually interested in post-production
audio. Sound design, editing, foley type sound
effects and the like. I'm a musician (drums, keys)
but have always had an affinity for the explosions,
door creaks, foot steps, and the "how did they make
that sound" type of stuff in movies and video.
I've heard great things about Fullsail. I'll have to
relocate there, but it's only 3 hrs. north of me. I'm
in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Thanks for all of the help.

Hi,
I undrlined the stuff you will probably be doing best in PT.Now I LOVE Logic, but the standard in studios for movies here in the USA is not Logic. It's ProTools. So learn that one first,as it is easier, and as you learn get through Logic.

  • Mbox Micro or Mbox Mini w/ Logic

Anyone here had any experience w/ an Mbox Micro (or Mbox Mini) and Logic ? Are they in any way compatible ??? Our band has been doing some recordings in Pro Tools LE 8, and I want to be able to work on the mixes on my downtime. However for work and my own projects, I mainly use Logic and wouldn't mind an external interface (I find my MBP's internal soundcard to be quite noisy, expecially when I'm running a second monitor using the DVI output...).
Thus ideally an interface that runs both Logic and Pro tools - perhaps an MBox Micro ???

The new Mbox series is about to be released so you may want to wait until then considering they're advertised to work with all DAWs.

  • Mini and Logic Pro7.2

    Hello
I am a solo musician and I am in the process of completing home studio.
Since I am starting from scratch and have a luxury of spending 10K at once I have compiled a list of gear I plan to put together:
Audio Interface - Motu - traveler
Midi Sync - Motu - express xt
mic preamp - UA - 6176 channel strip
    mic - rode - ntk
    controller - mackie - universal
    monitor - yamaha - hs80m
sound module - I am torn between yanaha MotivRack and Roland - fantom xr
As a computer, initially I am planning to use new Apple Mini. My thinking goes as follows:
Apple will introduce a G5 tower replacement and new operating system around Christmas. In between now and New Year I will be learn how to use logic pro midi capacity. I do not believe that I could record audio, but midi should run well on Mini. Once new G5 tower replacement Apple is available, I will sell mini and upgrade.
    What do you think?
    1) About the gear - I welcome any suggestions for improvement.
    2) Will I be able to use Mini to use midi - someone told me that he is using mini for audio but I have my doubts since HD is only 5400 mpr.
    Sincerely,
    AnyaS
    tbd Logic Pro7.2 on Mini

hey i mean, all that stuff sounds great! but do you actually need any of it? you should buy what suits your needs and the way you like to work. what exactly are you trying to accomplish? are you looking to get into scoring, put out an album, record other bands? these are the most important questions and the answers to those should dictate what you buy. it seems to me that you are going to be seeing a lot of overlap between all those different sound sources. and most likely, a lot of unused/wasted stuff. don't forget that Logic alone comes with a pretty massive library of instruments, sounds and effects. if there is indeed something specific like say, symphony orchestra stuff then yeah something specialized like the miroslav would be great to have. but i'd really ease back and weigh your needs and focus a bit more on figuring out what you're goal is with this setup. if i had 10k to spend personally i'd buy:
    Quad G5
    2 20" Cinema Displays
    1 88 key MIDI controller
    Logic Pro
    Dynaudio monitors
A nice desk (as in furniture, not mixer)
    A nice chair
    A decent mic
    A nice interface
and MAYBE some kind of soft ROMpler like Atmosphere or SampleTank or something
and i'd still have a bunch of money left over
i think you'd be surprised how little gear you are actually going to need. of course, i don't really know what you're looking to do so maybe you do indeed need all that kit. tell us more about what you are planning to do musically and that could help better pick a smart shopping list
if it interests you at all, i own a sound design/sample company and i also do some custom scoring work for t.v. and video and my entire setup is:
    Logic Pro
    Mac mini
    MIDI Controller
    SoundTrack Pro -wave editor
    Large Sample Library
portable HD recorder and stereo mic for field recording
    Blueroom Minipod monitors
i also have a few hardware synths that have become more collection pieces and don't get much use anymore. and some other software like Reason and Ableton Live that don't get a lot of use anymore. i make a nice living off this very basic setup. my studio is in my apartment in the extra bedroom. it's clearly not all about the gear for me.

  • MBox 1 and Logic - success anyone?

hi - I've been using PT 7.4 with MBox 1 (original) on OSX 10.5.5. Have installed Logic, and searched this board for advise, and am still in need of help.
    - I've downloaded Digi CoreAudio Manager, standalone version 7.4.2. (I still have PT installed, its working fine)
    - Double checked System Preferences In/Out settings, and Utilities>Audio Midi setup.
    - In Logic, selected MBox in Preferences>Audio
    - restarted all several times.
Still, on starting Logic, I get "DEA: No Audio Hardware found", then "Audio Device has been removed", then "The previously selected audio interface is not available.." and Logic uses internal in/out. (Though MBox is still selected in Logic Preferences)
I've read people having problems with MBox/Logic... Has anyone had success with MBox 1? What did you do that I didn't? thanks for any help. Carl

Never had a problem with the MBox 1 & logic Pro 8
Just out of interest have you got the USB connection direct into your computer by this i mean one of the built in USB ports that come with your machine
I have come across one or two who had problems with using USB hubs apparentl the M Box family dont like to go through hubs & will only work if its a direct USB connection
You cant even use it if you have expanded with a PCI or PCI x card it has to be one of the built in USB ports
My G5 has 3 USB ports it originally came with & i have expanded with a PCI card for 4 more I also can only use 1 of the 3 original ones
Failing that try downloading the latest drivers
    Luck

  • I have searched the video and tutorials for this question.

I did a search on this question and came up with a big, fat zero.
I have some graphics of blank buttons. I want to add a submenu to one of my pages. I looked up "How to Add Text to a Blank Button" on the site where I got the button. Unfortunately, the only instructions I could find require me to write out some HTML coding. Now for my question. Is there a way to write code in Muse????????????????? Currently, I am preparing to re-download Dreamweaver CC. I hope I can set the button up there then save it and open the new product with Muse. If anyone has an easier suggestion, feel free to let me know. It could save me a lot of work. Thank you, in advance.
    Sue

    Thanks for your post.
I can understand the frustration when you can't find information, but I wanted to point out that using a generic subject such as this will reduce the likelyhood that you'll get a response as other customers will see it as vague and not follow up.
I think in this case what you would want to do is choose the Background Fill (click on "Fill" in the toolbar) item in muse and use this button image as the background for a text box or for a cell of a custom menu you have inserted. This way the text that makes up the text box/menu will float above the button.
If you want to go the HTML route, you can go to Object -> Insert HTML and insert HTML directly into your layout.
    Cheers,
    Justin

  • Mac Mini and ipads for the family

In the near future, I would like to replace my older PowerPC G5 with a Mac Mini. Then, I would like to purchase a couple of ipads for my wife and two kids, who primarily use the G5 for email, web surfing, and light-duty work such as organizing (ical), filing documents, and using spreadsheets/word processing software, with occasional photo-editing. Essentially, we would set up accounts for each user on the Mac Mini where all of the files/photos/organizing would be stored, and then just tap into them via housefhold wifi with the ipads as needed. Any major computing could still be done directly on the Mini (and I also have a newer MacBook), as needed. An added bonus would be that we would also use the Mini as our household media hub for streaming music to entertainment center and video/movies to the TV. I really like this scenario, as it would allow for greater flexibility and portability, while still serving the needs of the family. I think this can be easily done, and suspect the experience could be enhanced by a few apps, but I haven't researched that end of things yet. First, I wanted to ask the folks here if this is a realistic plan? Also, would I be better off with the Mac Mini or Mac Mini Server? Any and all input is welcome, as well as helpful suggestions from those who have already done this. Thanks in advance!

It sounds realistic, I haven't done it though, & I don't think there'll be much diff between the Server & Client models for what you want to do.

  • Mac mini and Logic 7.2

    Hi,
maybe the question has been asked before, but i want to be sure before i buy it.
I must change my dual 1G G4 because it is too noisy in the recording sdtudio.
Does the Mac mini is strong enough for 25 instruments midi tracks plus 10 audio tracks at the same time ?
    thanks.

Are you sure the 410 would be last in the chain? All the support I read from M-Audio says that one of the two firewire ports on the 410 should be connected to the computer and the other should be used for hard drives, etc.
I've connected it both first and last - both work for simple songs with few tracks. First in the chain for the audio interface seems more intuitive. Can you direct me to the support page from M-Audio that relates to being last?
Anyone else use the interface first or last?

  • Thinking of buying a mac mini and had a few questions. D:

I went to Best Buy a while ago, waited about an hour for help and I couldn't get anyone to help me.
haha so anyway, I want to get a mac mini. A reason is because I've never used an operating system other than windows, and all windows-based pcs that I've had start slowing down after a month; even with an anti virus program. So hopefully I won't have that problem with a different operating system.
One thing I wanted to do was to get a small 20-22 in LCD HDTV, would I be able to connect a mac mini onto one? Will it also play HD movies? The reason why I want to get a tv instead of a monitor is because I want to be able to connect a ps3 or xbox on it and play games every once in a while; unless maybe you can do the same with regular pc monitors. Would it be better to get a pc monitor instead? Which would you suggest?
    Thanks lots. :]

The smallest full HD TV is going to be 32" although it's possible there might be one or two that are 26" in size. Anything smaller is going to be 720p and may support 1080i. The other option would be to get a monitor that size as they will more then likely support up to 1080p although as already mentioned bear in mind they may be difficult if at all possible to connect to a gaming console.
Having said that they may possibly come with one or two HDMI connections. Sound will be the other issue and you will have to sort out some sort of external sound option. lastly having full HD on anything smaller then a 32" is probably pointless unless you're sitting right up close to the display.
I currently have my late 2009 Mac Mini connected to a 32" full HD Sony TV via HDMI and it works great. I don't really use it for games though as I have a PS3, 360 and a Wii for that. The Mini goes through my Onkyo surround sound amp to my TV detects it as a 1080p TV. As it's going from mini display to DVI to HDMI I use a separate external JBL 2.1 sound system connected directly to the Mini for the sound. Apparently the Mini is capable of outputting digital surround sound but I've not looked into that yet.

  • Mac mini and Promise Pegasus Thunderbolt Question

I'm a semi-pro photographer and my wife is a graphic designer. I just bought a new mac mini with the Promise Pegasus 8 TB RAID drive. I know the mini HD is slow and the small so I want to use the RAID as a boot disk and to house my applications and files - effectively by-passing the weakest mac-mini link and as our primary music/media server o movies, music and photography. I've never used a RAID array before - usually individual multiple external hard drives. How do I go about using this RAID array for everything? Is it as simple as selecting this drive as the target or are there other hoops to jump through? I want to get as many answers as I can while everything is being shipped. I've had two HD crashes recently and I need the security of knowing all our data is safe...plus the additional speed and redundancy are very important.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You can get the maximum resolution for the Thunderbolt Display (2560x1440) on both monitors, but the graphic performance may decrease

  • Kona 3 [and XENA] for FCP Questions

Is the XENA 2Ke compatible with the Macintosh platform and FCP, and if so which is the recommended version of OSX and FCP?
I have previously read someone stating that you can use this card on both platforms therefor negating the need to purchase a Mac only Kona 3.
I am doubtful of this however your immediate response / confirmation / denial of this is greatly appreciated.
    ALSO
Is anyone aware of news relating to an upgrade of the Kona 3 card [ie Kona 4 or a Mac and PC compatible XENA card]?
I am looking at assembling a new HD online capable suite in the next few weeks and am hoping to avoid purchasing ie a Kona 3 card just before the release of [theoretically] a Kona 4 card [possibly at NAB 08]. Being that 4K / Red post are and should be at a premium in the coming months I would like to assemble a post solution that can handle for example a short form 4K online [if possible].
I know I am dealing with a lot of what-ifs but for the investment I need to make I will be asking similar questions to these everywhere I can including the forums such as this.

    Hi Jerry
First and foremost, thank you very much for your detailed reply.
    1. Hmmmm. "AJA, is there something in the air too?" [lol].
I just love the thought of new gear and technology... and AJA furthering its hardware support of RED in FCP, looking forward to any NAB developments.

*3. Monitoring 2K?* What are you using to monitor 2K, HD Jerry?
Many guys in similar situations to myself over here in Australia are using Apple Cinema Displays with a Decklink HD-Link Pro box for monitoring. Obviously the 30" Cinema Display has the resolution to handle 2K monitoring but is it suitable in your view?
Realistically I am looking at offering an immediate service based mainly on a HD offline / online workflow. I would however like to future proof myself as best I can by assembling hardware that can handle 2K with reliability, stability and to reasonable levels of accuracy and complexity.
*Up until now [NAB] I've been looking at something in the order of the following setup:*
    *Online Machine*
    Two 3.2GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon (8-core)
    8gb RAM
    1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3GB/s
NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600 1.5GB (Stereo 3D, two dual-link DVI)
    One 16x SuperDrive
    AirPort Extreme card (Wi-Fi)
    Apple wireless Mighty Mouse
    Apple Wireless Keyboard
*Third Party Card / Hardware IO:*
    Kona 3 with K-Box
    *Offline Machine:*
    Two 3.2GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon (8-core)
    4GB (2 x 1GB)
    1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3GB/s
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB (Two dual-link DVI)
    One 16x SuperDrive
    AirPort Extreme card (Wi-Fi)
    Apple wireless Mighty Mouse
    Apple Wireless Keyboard
    Monitoring:
JVC DT-V24L1DGE 1920x1080 Pro HD LCD with 1:1 pixel monitoring / no scaling and all the regular / required inputs and features
*BUP / Archival Purposes / Proofs:*
Lacie D2 Ext Blu Ray Burner
    Storage:
Caldigit's HD Pro OR G Technology's G Speed OR G Speed es [though not sold on G Speed es - great price point but really doesn't have the sustained drive speeds. Great for online SD, Pro Res and possibly basic DVCPro HD / HD Sequences etc. [www.g-technology.com states "Two G-SPEED eS units and the G-Tech PCIe RAID controller support all of the above plus 10-bit, 1080i/60 HD playback in RAID 0 or RAID 5 mode."]. Will be looking into the new Apple owned Promise RAIDs too; your thoughts on these? Unfortunately I don't really have the budget for SANman, X-Serve, Fibrejet etc solutions at present but for the right job, that would obviously change.
I really appreciate the idea of how you are working with 2K, though your description was not really that detailed it definitely sounds smooth. Do you think that I am heading in the right direction in your opinion with the gear I have in mind, and is the minimum 2K future proofing concept I have a valid one?
Thanks for taking the time to read this post, and hopefully reply to some or all.
Anyone / everyone please feel free to comment.

  • Macbook and Logic Pro Quick question

im sorry guys i know there is alot of topics on this but im crunched for time and i need to get a computer as soon as possible. I found a macbook with 2.0 ghz, 80 gb 5400 harddrive, im going to get 4 gigs of ram, 667 mhz system bus. (im probally going to get an external harddrive)
potentially i can get a better one with 2.2 ghz
Which would be better? Is the first one enough?
I use logic to its breaking point with 40-60 tracks almost all have reverb and other effects (i make ambient music)
    thanks

If your doing that many tracks with effects, go for the fastest cpu and the most ram you can get. Otherwise you going wind up freezing tracks a lot. You will also need a large firewire external drive running at 7200. If you don't need to move around an iMac is more bang for the buck. If you do and you have the money check out the new Macbook Pro. They're much faster, have a 17" screen option and can be purchased with a 200 gb 7200 internal HD.
