Mboxutil -r marks all messages unread with 6.3

imsimta version
SunOS mars 5.10 Generic_125100-08 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V240
Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 6.3-0.15 (built Feb 9 2007)
libimta.so 6.3-0.15 (built 19:27:56, Feb 9 2007)
We run like "mboxutil -r user/name/INBOX user/name/INBOX secondary" to rename a person's mailbox to another partition to adjust disk space utilization.
We find that when we run the command, all of the messages in all their folders are marked "unread".
Any idea on what causes this? Is there a good workaround which the user does not have to perform? When it happened to me, in Thunderbird, I just highlighted each of my folders and chose "Mark Folder Read". It took some time, but it was easy to do. We'd prefer to not put the user through that process. Is it a bug? Is there a way to make it not happen?
Hal

Hi,
Sounds like you are hitting a known bug #6570257 "mboxutil -r loses peruser flags when moving mailboxes between partitions". This bug has been fixed in the latest messaging server patch (120228-22). You will need to log a sun support case - assuming you have a support contract of course - (http://msg.wikidoc.info/index.php/Submit_sun_support_request) if you want to get a copy. I'm not sure when/if this patch is going to be available publicly via sunsolve.
Regards,
Shane.

  • How can I make a rule to mark all messages sent to Mail Trash as Read?

How can I make a rule to mark all messages sent to Mail Trash as Read?
When I look at some emails on my phone, I can see from the title that I don't need to read the email so I delete it without opening it. When I go to my Macbook Pro and open mail, the number of unread messages in my Trash shows next to the name. It drives me nuts. Can I just set a rule to mark all messages sent to trash as read? If that isn't possible, I'd take just making the number not show beside the Trash folder.

Just in the case that I actually do need to go back to them for some reason. I have some OCD tendencies which is also why the number beside the folder drives me nuts.

  • Mail marks all messages as important?

    Can I change this.  Thanks.

Exactly. If a couple has both (all) of their email accounts configured on a Mac running Mavericks, so that they can both check their email on that Mac…..
Mavericks Mail will mark ALL copies of an email as read in ALL email accounts configured on that Mac, regardless of which account “reads” the email. Worse yet, it does matter what email server(s) host those accounts. If those email accounts are on an iMAP email server, the messages will appear as read on all other devices configured with any of those accounts — i.e. the email will appear as read on any other Mac, iPad, iPhone, PC….
And as you noted, marking the email as unread only effects that one account. In other words, Mail marks the message as read in all accounts configured on a Mac when you read it in any account. But subsequently marking it as unread in that account, does NOT mark it as unread in any other account.
So a considerate spouse should check the email header of every email they read, to see if the address list contains their spouses email account(s) and go to that account to mark it as unread. Or they can sleep on the couch that night — their choice:(
Note: Mail in iOS 7 on the iPhone/iPad does NOT work this way. It only marks the email as read in the account where it was actually read.
BTW This is just one of many inconsistencies in how Apple’s basic applications (e.g. Mail, Calendars, Contacts, etc.) function in Mavericks - Mac vs iOS7 - iPhone vs iOS7 - iPad. And most of these inconsistencies can not be easy explained away based on screen size or mouse/keyboard vs touch interface. You really have to wonder whether these Apple software development teams ever really talk to one another.

  • Can I mark all messages read at one time on ipad 2?

Is there a way to mark all mail (messages) 'read' without deleting them?

you can mark all as read at one time....
    1 go to email
    2 click edit
    3 choose one email
4 choose the mark button, but keep pushing the mark button
5 while holding down the mark button, uncheck that chosen email
6 release the mark button after a second or two
    7 choose "mark as read'

  • Mail-marking all messages that I read as replied, even though I have not replied.

Everytime I read a message, it shows the replied icon on that message. When I click on the replied icon, it says that it cannot find my reply, and that I must have deleted it. I haven't replied at all, so I want those icons to go away. Has anyone had this problem or does anyone have a solution?

you're the first case of this I've heard about. Please don't get upset because i am only asking these question to deduce any issues.
    Having said that:
what computer model are you on,
what email client are you using with mail? (MSN, gmail, icloud, what?)
if you create a new user account in system preferenes, users and groups and try mail through there, does it still happen?
ultimately I think you should send feedback to Apple about your particular situation. http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
Because this is the first time I'm reading about this.
you may need to reinastall lion throught the recovery partition.

  • Google Reader: Mark All as Read?

I am using Google Reader with Safari on the iPhone
    www.google.com/reader/m/subscriptions
This is an excellent way to keep up with Blogs. I find that when I make changes in Google Reader on the PC with Firefox or IE, the subscriptions change nicely on the iPhone. The one thing I have been unable to do, however, is mark all messages as "read" on the iPhone side; even if I do this on the PC side, the iPhone still shows hundreds of items as "unread."
Has anyone figured out a way to reset all iPhone Google Reader items to "read" status, so that it will be easy to see what is truly new?
    Thanks!

they seem to over look very basic things like giving the IPad any telephone function?? so if there is no local wifi you are stuffed.... I guess you can always pick up the local newspaper and read whilst waiting for the IPad to fin a wifi network ?
Do you really think the iPad should be a grotesquely oversized cell phone or are you completely oblivious the the announced 3G data models?
BTW The link to leave suggestions on iphone enhancements doesn't work !
It sure works for me and everyone else.

  • How can I mark ALL mail read in Mail?

For the past few months my mail program has constantly said that I have two unread messages in it. I have gone through every folder on there and selected all the messages and marked them as Read but there is still a "2" on the icon in the Dock. It's not a huge deal but it's been kind of bugging me since it seems like it should be a simple fix. Anyone have any ideas for how I can get rid of this? Is there a "Master" way to to mark all messages read in the Mail program, in case I'm missing some somewhere? Thank you in advance.
I'm not sure if this helps but the email account that it says the "2 unread messages" are in is a school Outlook account. I have tried deleting the account and readding it and the same "2 unread messages" notification is still there.

In mail enter "unread" without the quotes, in the search box. HIt the Enter key.
You will then see a new item appear, "Status: Message is Unread"
Select this status and all your unread messages will appear.

  • How to download ALL messages from server - not just NEW messages?

    Good evening.
The only pulldown menu options I find are for NEW messages.
How can I retrieve ALL messages from the email server? (Yes they are all there).
    Thanks for your time.

Did you try "WebMail to goto your mail server & Mark all Messages as Unread?", as I mentioned before?
On the Server is where it's kept as to which ones have already been downloaded. I think marking the Unread should do it.

  • Mark all email msgs as read?

Has anyone found a way to mark all messages in a particular mailbox as read? So far, I have to go through them one at a time.

Same here! I had to go through 248 e-mails from four different accounts and select them one by one. Also, there's no way to mark an e-mail as read without opening it first. It might be nice if Apple gives us that option in a future software update... cause there'll be future software updates, right?

  • "Clear All Messages" Idea.

    "Clear All Messages" Idea:
Problem:  Over time, messsages conversations on iOS devices take up a significant amount of space. Currently, there is no option to clear all messages conversations with a single click.
Solution:  Create a "Clear all Messages" button in the messages app.
    Details:
Text messages can take up a lot of space on your iOS device, especially if you send or receive a lot of photos and videos from family and friends via iMessage.  If you have the 32GB or 64GB device, this may not concern you but for those of us who have the 16GB model, free space is often a concern.  I have noticed that the free space on my device can be dramatically increased when I erase all my messages conversations.  The problem is that to do this I must go through and delete each conversation individually, which is quite annoying when you have a lot of conversations.  I am asking Apple to consider making a "Clear All Messages" button within the messages app to allow users to clear all their conversations in order to free up space.
I did not know where to post this so please reply to this if you think this should be posted in another location.
    Thanks

  • Marking multiple messages as unread

Is there a way to mark multiple emails as unread?
I find that many times I have already read my emails on my Mac, but the iPhone lists them all as unread. It seems silly that I should have to "re-read" them one-by-one to mark them unread on the iPhone. So, instead of wasting my time with such a task, my iPhone is always indicating >50 or >100 unread emails.
Where is the "Mark all as read" option ??

    Destin Hoffmann1,
If you are accessing your .Mac with IMAP on your computer and iPhone, they will be marked as read on both when you read them on either. When using IMAP there is no need to reread them. If you use the .Mac option when setting up the account directly on the phone it will be set up as IMAP. With POP3 the message status is not synced.
This article has more information about POP3 versus IMAP:

  • My iPhone3GS running iOS5 has recently been reluctant to upgrade Apps. The App store asks for my password and then marks all the Apps as being updated. Often only one or none actually update. Usually I get a message saying "Unable to download application"

My iPhone3GS running iOS5 has recently been reluctant to upgrade Apps. The App store asks for my password and then marks all the Apps as being updated. Often only one or none actually update. Usually I get a message saying "Unable to download application" and "<app> could not be downloaded at this time - Done or Retry".
It's not an iTunes login / password issue because sometimes one or two of the Apps will download and the others stall with the blank progress bar. The internet connection is working fine in all other respects.
Sometimes, many restarts later the downloads will complete. Is this a known bug? Is Apple working on it? Any fixes?

  • How do you 'mark all' mail messages and then delete in Iphone 5?

I cannot do a mass delete of my emails any more in iphone 5 - how do you get the edit functions back onto the screen once you have 'marked all' the messages?

As Chgrist1 said, that is how it works. Having looked as how Outlook stores mail, and everything else. It is a wonder anything ever comes out that is useable. PST files are a mess. First thing they do is pull the email apart and store header, body and attachments is three different places.
You will also find (most likely) that your accounts in Outlook were POP and the default in Thunderbird is IMAP. merging IMAP and POP files and folders is fraught with difficulties and dangers. It would be a brave developer that tried that in an import.
In the case of IMAP all your mail is one the server, so import is not all that important. However copying a gigabyte or two of of outlook mail into your imap server could exhaust your available message storage space there and cause the import to fail completely.
So If you want to do what your saying, first confirm that your not using IMAP mail. Otherwise your experience is most likely going to be exceedingly poor.
If you are using POP mail, then changing the setting in your pop account to cause it to use the global inbox will make a single mail account appear, "Local Folder", with your outlook mail as a sub folder of that.
Dragging a folder from the imported outlook tree to Local folders is not difficult, as long as you remember that folders hang of other folders, so your dragging them to a parent, not a position on the screen you like.

  • How do i clear unread messages indicated as 10 unread.  all messages have been read.

I have no blue dots next to any messages in all my mailboxes.  I have read all messages and i see All Inboxes (10)  as though there are 10 unread messages.  how can i clear the 10?

Well, you can try restoring your iPad then.  Note this process will remove all messages from all your email accounts on the iPad, but if you're OK with that:
Plug your iPad into your computer and sync with iTunes.  Then, while you have your iPad's row selected on the left, click the "Restore" button on the right.

  • No way to mark sms messages as 'unread'?

    Hi everyone,
I just received my first ever iphone as an upgrade 2 days ago and am so shocked that you can't mark sms messages as unread. Surely this is a crucial feature that allows you to come back to messages you don't want to reply to straight away but don't want to forget about?
Also, within bookmarks, is it not possible to delete the factory bookmarks and just keep your umported bookmarks at the top? You pretty much can't move them around!
Thanks for all of your help

Thank you for replying, but unfortunately your response if not related to my problem:
I am aware that SMS message remain available until I decide to delete them - my query is that I am wondering if there is an option to mark a message or thread as 'unread'.
As for bookmarks, I am aware how to drag them, but my query was how to delete the Apple bookmark folders. Also, thank you for pointing out the User Guide - I am aware of how to operate my iPhone to this level thank you very much!
