MBP 1,1: strange noises, battery failure
My MBP 1,1 (SL, 64GB Samsung SSD) recently started to make strange noises from within. It's hard to decribe, but it sounds like rapid crackling, like a hard disk put into overdrive (however a SSD is installed). Along with that, there's a high-pitched monotonous sound.
The noise is the loudest somewhere between the ExpressCard cage and the battery multiconnector cable.
Further, when the Mac is running solely on battery power (without the MagSafe being connected), power suddenly goes off without any warning. Although fully charged the battery LED blinks indicating it's empty.
What I tried so far:
- SMC reset
- deleted power management plist
- deleted caches
- AHT - ok!
- safe boot
- second battery
- checked connectors inside
- disconnected fans
What could that be? My guess is the I/O-Board. Or could a malfunctioning logicboard produce such sounds?
Thanks!
Since computers should not be making crackling sounds, that would be a good candidate to backup all of your data and have the apple techs at the genius bar run some diagnostics to see what is not working right. Could be a loose connection that does not show up on AHT.

Message was edited by: MosheAIt could be hard drive noise. You might want to try running SMART Utility:
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/systemdiskutilities/smartutility.html
You can download the demo and run it several times for free. It will give you a comprehensive view of the physical health of your drive. It seems to be somewhat more sensitive than Disk Utility, and may be able to detect impending drive failure sooner.
If you haven't already, run the extended version of the Apple Hardware test--always a good thing to do with a used machine.
Good luck! -
MacBook Pro makes strange noises
My MacBook Pro recently started to make strange noises like an elecyticity cable was sparkling. Today I closed the screen to move it and started to make a greater sound like an old ventilator when I opened back then it went into sleeping, can somebody tell me what is happening?
ThanksI think I had the same problem as you on a 13" MBP. After the grinding noise, did your laptop suddenly make a really fast whooshing sound? If that's what you're experiencing, there might be a broken ball bearing in your fan. In that case, you have to take it to an Apple Store and get that replaced.

N97, strange noise inside the phone
Hei,
today I noticed a strange noise when waving the phone. It was heard behind the camera.
The noise was heard after taking the battery, sim & SD card away, but not when the key pad was opened.
It sounds like something were lose inside the phone.
So went to Nokia service point. There we noticed that the other two 97's, that they had there, had the same noise although not so loud as in mine.
The service guy had not noticed the same before and told me to wait until he gets more information.
Has some of you the same problem?
N900, N95I hear a strange noise in my phone too. After a bit of testing I realised that something is moving slightly only when the phone's keyboard is closed. When you open the keyboard and shake the phone, nothing is heard. I suppose the plastic hinges thingy mechanism that holds the keyboard makes the noise and when the keybord is close its a bit loose and makes the sound. I also think that this is the reason why on some phone the vibtation sound weird- cause this plastic thing rattles about when the phone is vibrating.
Can someone confirm this?

Strange noise coming from headphone port on Macbook Pro
Hi all
I have recently bought a brand new Macbook Pro 2.4gh Intel Core 2 Duo, and was browsing through my iTunes looking for something to play... I had plugged into the headphone jack my pair of BOSE around-ear headphones and could hear a strange noise that sounded like electrical interference. I can only hear it when nothing is playing through the headphones, like the situation I mentioned above. And i know it is a problem exclusive to my MBP as it does not happen on my iMac, iPhone, iPod ect.... any ideas what may be causing it, of how to get it to stop....?
ThanksHello
I have the same problem. I can't use my Sennheiser / V-Moda inear headphones because of that noise. I changed the MacBook, but the noise is still the same. I spent one hour talking to one guy from AppleCare and we came to the conclusion that headphones with low impedance (16 Ohm for the headphones mentioned above) are not working properly with the new MacBook Pro.
What do you think ? Is this possible ?
The solution for me was to buy a Logitech speaker system with external audio jack... and it works fine now (speaker and headphones)!
I'm a new Mac user and I'm quite disappointed about this audio issue. I really didn't expect Apple to have troubles with a headphone jack...
Thanks for your feedback. -
Qosmio X70-A-12W produces strange noise
Hello
I operate my new Qosmio X70 without the battery but i hear a strange noise that stop or is reduced if i light up the keyboard....
Do you have any idea what it might be?yes the laptop is band new.. I work on it almost all day cause its the nature of my work so i considered better to remove the battery and just charge and discharge it every now and then to preserve it better.
The sound is not loud its like the fan speeding slower when the keyboard is light up (an example of what i mean strange sound, something like this i am not sure if this is the main cause..)
Other than this very minor issue the laptop is perfect -
Strange noise from my macbook pro 13" retina
Hi everyone,
I got a problem with my new macbook pro retina 13"... I bought it last week and I already got problems with it!
When I'm using it, I can hear sometimes strange noises. I made a video showing from where the sound is from and you can hear this noise.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3f7blKARMY
The strangest thing is that the only parts in this computer that are moving are the fans and it doesn't seem to be the fans causing this sound (it would be more regular).
Thanks for helping me!In light of the age of the MBP, I suggest you pack it up and go to the Apple store and return/exchange it for a new one. Problem solved!
Ciao. -
when i open the cover or move.
it has strange noise come out.
it seem like a paper cut sound
or whatever
absolutely not come from the speaker i mute it before.
macbook pro early 2011 15"
i upload video here http://www.twitvid.com/ULTV1
check it out , sorry for poor quality of videoIs it a low hum or buzzing? If so, tht may be an indication of hardware failure. Though Iwould be hard pressed to explain a buzzing noise to an apple tech. Regardless, if AppleCare is still active, head to the nearest apple store and have them document the situation so that in the future you have btter chances of making a claim if something happens later on.

I'm having strange random connection failures. Are there ineffieciency in my config?
I've been having strange, random connection failures and I'm trying to eliminate possible causes.
What happens is while I'm browsing on the net over wifi, a link will at random not connect to the site, but instead fault to the ISP error page. It happens with highly reliable sites like google, or ebay, or whatever. If I direct connect to the cable modem, the problem site is immediately available.
I'm sitting <6 feet from a 871W router (with antenna). There's one router in my building and others are at my neighbors.
Below is the conf file. Just to imagine how rediculious this problem is, here's a screen shot from a web page. This shows a web page I visited, and after clicking on a link (an embedded youtube video), the error showed up within the page itself.
Why would only some URLs fail to connect? Is there inefficiencies in my config?

endI removed the ip router 0 0 to no great effect, which I consider to be a win.
I'm guessing that since overload is what--I understand--translates the one outside to the many inside IPs, that the suggestion to have only one overload configured means I should combine the two ip ranges into one.
I deleted 10.0.0.0 network. Changed the bridge references to 1 and vlan references to 1. Now wifi and ethernet should all be using the same internal network? That's the idea, right? Any more fat?

my eraphone of my iphone 4s white unlocked make strange noises during the call and still doing the noise like an interference or saturing the spekaer
This is a common problem with iPhone 4s (and IOS 5) There isn't ' anything you can do about it, so you're best bet is to go down to the store and get an exchange. If you have an older iPhone (3gs/4) roll back your update from IOS 5 to IOS 4.

My IPad 1 has lost complete power. I have attempted a restart and a reset without results. I have attempted to charge with the keyboard dock, the wall charger and connecting to my MacBook Pro. Again no results just a black screen. Is this a battery failure? I am in Mexico for another 6 weeks and hoping to find a solution.
Cathi-
How long did you have the iPad connected to the wall charger? A completely dead iPad battery may not work until it has been charged for some time - maybe a half hour or more. I suggest leaving it on charge overnight, and then trying the reset.
The MacBook may be able to charge the iPad if it doesn't go to sleep, but it will be extremely slow. the Wall charger is definitely the best way.

AP54G generates a strange noise while operating
Hello guys!
Is that normal, that my MSI AP54G Access Point generates a silent, strange noise (like a TV when there's no signal), while it is operating? I noticed it one or two days ago and I don't know, whether it is a normal thing or not. Ummm... I think, I have to tell you, that some days ago I dropped the AP (accidentally) from about one meter high... so I think that can be the reason why the AP emits such a strange noise. Anyway, it is operating perfectly, it has a very strong and stable signal and I'm fully satisfied with it, but I'm afraid, that this noise could cause some trouble in the future, for example burn down the AP or even explode it?
Thanks for your help!
Greetings:
GeryThanks... you are very helpful...
Don't you guys use this AP? I'm the only one, who uses it? Well, I think not.
And what about you guys working for MSI?? You don't read the forum of your own company?? -
Burned CD's: strange noise on inner tracks
Hi everybody,
since I upgraded my system with a S-ATA DVD burner, I get a strange issue when I write my playlists to CD-R's.
The burned disc has got a persistent noise on the inner tracks and the more the track number raises the more I can hear the noise.
It's not like static or something like that.
It's a weird looping sound that accompanies the track from start to end.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regardsHi I'm having the same problem here. I've been using iTunes for ages now. Very strange. I've tried burning via another CR Rwiter but still the same strange noise and on different places. Lookst like a software bug to me. Anybody got lucky solving this?
