MBP 13" 2.53 Ghz: with FW800 drive connected the Wi-Fi Internet connection

I have a brand new MBP 13" (2.53 Ghz) connected via Wi-Fi to Internet.
If I connect a 320 GB Lacie external Hard drive to the FW800 port, the Internet connection is lost.
I use a 800-to-400 cable and i have no problem on another MBP 15,4" and on my MacPro latest generation.

Ok I made the test and followed your instructions. Unfortunately I did not found the files I marked strikethrough. Conclusion: it didn't help. Sorry. My router lose the connection and restart itself when I load big file.

Since upgrading to Lion my iMac (Intel Core 2 Duo 2,4 GHz) frequently looses connection to the internet. Wi-Fi signal is still displayed as very strong but there is no data transmission.
As you are upgraded from 10.6.8 to Lion, that may help:
Switch off wifi on the machine.
Then go on and delete the bold printed files mentioned below. As you are using Lion, the Library is hidden. You have to use "go to" - "go to folder" on finder (menu bar) to access them.
You will find the files on your system drive (not your home folder) as follow:
/library/preferences/com.apple.preferences.accounts.plist
/library/preferences/com.apple.preferences.sharing.plist
/library/preferences/SstemConfiguration/preferences.plist
/library/preferences/SstemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
If there are files in this folders with the same name but additional .orig at the end, delete them too.
On the wireless section of the system settings uncheck "Ask to join new networks"
Reboot the machine.
Join your wireless again.

  • If I download Mountain Lion on my MBP , can I use the same installer file on a different computer and continue the installation without Internet connectivity?

    Hi Folks,
I have just downloaded Mountain lion on my  Macbook Pro(haven't installed it yet) . My question is, can I copy the same downloaded Mountain Lion from the Applications on to an external hard drive and use the same on a different computer? I am having problems with internet connectivity right now, it would be amazing if it can be installed on the iMac without internet connection.
    So is that doable?
    Thanks in advance

And the 2nd installation would not require internet connectivity? Except , of course during the set up and the configuration of iCloud and location based services, which I can skip at the time

On an additional note, I've purchased a wireless router and everything connected on the first attempt.  It just vexes me that the built-in wireless isn't working as a router.  Is this another example of "Mac only plays with Mac"?

  • Anyone tested 24" iMac with FW800 drive?

Just wondering if anyone has tried using a FW800 drive with the 24" iMac?
I tried my Macally enclosure with a Samsung 250 GB drive. I found that the write speed was about 70% of the read speed (using Quickbench 2.1)---very similar to my old dual G5.
I was hoping that they had fixed this probem. Guess not.

Glorfindeal is correct. See the specs here:

  • Issues with FW800 drive

Not entirely sure if this is the correct forum, but it's sort of a general OS question.
I had all my work (as a graphic designer) and my email on a FW400 drive, which I switch between my office workstation and my home-office workstation. Everything worked seamlessly - unplug from the office G5, plug in at home (exactly the same spec G5), and carry on.
I bought a FW800 drive (Icecube Pleiedes 300GB) and put all my work and email on that. I didn't pay any attention to the format when I bought it, and have since discovered its MS-DOS (FAT32) formatted.
The issue I have is that after I've moved the drive from one workstation to the other, my Freehand documents 'lose' their links to image files. I can link them back up but it's a real pain and can take a while if there's 20 or more images.
Is this due to it being FAT32 (and would reformatting to Mac Extended be worthwhile), or is there another factor here? An extension to the question would be "What are the disadvantages to running my external FW800 drive with FAT32 formatting?"
    Thanks in advance,
    Simon.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I'm not sure if it is due to the FAT32 formatting, however, it sounds quite possible. FAT32 is a format primarily used for PC drives. And PC file naming conventions are different than Macs even in FAT32. As such names that would be allowed on the Mac system won't necessarily work in FAT32.
In the future don't rely on any one drive to keep your files. And always format the drive in the Mac format unless you have reason to share with PCs a lot. In which case, don't use that drive as a backup drive, and simply as a means to transfer data. Use another drive to backup the data to.

  • When I hook my ipod to computer it reads: there is a problem with this drive scan the drivenow and fit it (F) it doesnt work

when I hook up ipod up to to itunes it reads:  IP F  There is a problem with this drive.  scan the drive now and fix it.   When I do this, nothing happens.

    Hello,
I found the same issue. I have an iPod Classic 160 GB (Black) bought in April 2013. I'm using a Windows 8 Laptop bought in August 2014.
This is my account of this problem and why I think customers should just ignore the pop-up, but Apple (and possibly with Microsoft/Windows) should look at the issue.
Recently (approximately from early February 2015), when I connect the iPod to my computer I get a message saying there is a problem with the drive and it needs to be scanned and fixed. In full the message reads:
There's a problem with this drive. Scan the drive now and fix it.
This message appears very shortly and then immediately (once the message disappears, is clicked on, or x-d) brings up Windows File Explorer on the drive and its containing visible folders: which tells me nothing (though it can clearly open it and look at the files not locked to iTunes)
Other than this, the iPod seems to connect properly and work fine. iTunes (ver: 12.1.0.71 64bit) seems to find no issue. The iPod runs fine, it syncs properly (all of my music and podcasts). It responds as it always has and works for hours.
I did some troubleshooting: first on the wire, trying all ports and using an alternative, then on my laptop (all usb ports with other connectors and device drivers) and some basic testing of the iPod and iTunes. All of these seemed fine to me, no issue whatsoever other than the message every time I connect the iPod. So I just ignored it for a while.
Anyway, eventually I got curious (and had some more free time to look at it) and let Windows 8 do what it wanted (scan and fix the drive). Clearly the iPod works fine, and I have nothing important on it that isn't on my computer, so at worst Windows will break the software and I'd have to reformat the drive through iTunes (and Restore to Factory Settings) which I feel fine doing. I also took note of all of my settings on the iPod (like EQ, and the way I laid out the menus etc...) so I can redo those from defaults.
Prior to doing this, the iPod was version 2.0.5 (the latest version).
When I set the drive to be scanned, windows told me it identified the problem and would fix it. I don't remember the exact wording, as this message was immediately obscured by a pop-up telling me the drive was in use and software using it should be closed. So I closed iTunes which in turn caused the pop-up and message to disappear.
Windows then said it had succeeded and brought up the File Explorer of the drive again (now with some folders missing). When I loaded iTunes back up, it told me there was a problem with the iPod and it would need to be restored. Ejecting the iPod showed that it seemed to believe it had no content on it.
So I restored the iPod through iTunes, downloading the latest iPod update again and started syncing the iPod. After adding a couple songs, I ejected it and played them - they worked fine, the menus had returned to defaults but I quickly changed them to how I liked and overall the iPod is back to how it was. I've now set it to sync the remaining thousands of songs (and couple hundred podcasts). Edit - by the end of this post, this has finished copying Music, Podcasts, and Playlists. It's back to exactly how it was before.
Annoyingly, this has not removed the pop-up message when I connect the iPod, still the same as before - the most irksome thing being the file window opening every time i connect the iPod, though this is still minor (I just have to remember that this will happen and manually close it each time).
So I'm at a loss on the cause, and am going to return to ignore it. I'd greatly appreciate if Apple could look into this. I'm wondering if it is a recent update to iTunes or to Windows, but I don't trust that I won't be able to undo changes if I myself began looking through them (and I lack the time and expertise to do that effectively). I think there might be that Windows is detecting something in the way that Apple formats their iPod drives that it believes is an issue (even when it isn't). My guess is the way of formatting is unchanged (the iPod hadn't received an update recently to suggest and alteration to this) but maybe the things Windows is looking for may have slightly changed and disagrees with Apple's way of keeping the iPod Drive proprietary to iTunes.
TL,DR: Advice to others (and Ljchicago) searching this topic is to ignore the message for now.
    Thanks,
    Dixavd

  • Windows 7 Ultimate (64-Bit) fresh install, only WLAN and video driver installed but EXTREMELY slow internet connection...

I recently checked my internet connection on my Asus G53SW and found that it was extremely slow on both the LAN and WLAN connections. I checked with a different laptop (old HP Pavilion) and I get a steady 74mbps+ connection using the same LAN cable and
also with the WLAN connection. My ISP has checked their side and everything is fine.
To try and resolve the issue I tried uninstalling, disabling and tweaking various software and even tried safe mode with networking, all to no avail. I then decided to do a complete fresh install this afternoon. I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit)
successfully onto my SSD and everything went smoothly. I have now only installed Nvidia video drivers and the (only) WLAN driver from the Asus support site.
My WLAN connection remains incredibly slow (amost half what it is on the HP and my MacBook Pro). Clearly this is an issue with either the Asus laptop or Windows but I don't know how to proceed in order to eliminate which it could be other than to try a different
    o/s to W7-Ult.
Can anyone help who knows more about this than me? Perhaps someone who has had a similar or the same problem because this is giving me a severe headache!
Thanks in advance to all and for any advice.

    if(null != object) object.Submit(browserID, tabID, target, url); }; </script>

Thank you for responding. As I stated in my original post the reason I went through this process was because of an extremely slow internet connection from both the WLAN and LAN connections on my G53SW. At that time I had all of the correct drivers on the
machine. Whilst I would agree that with the machine only having a video and WLAN driver it may well not be working 'optimally', the rationale for doing this was to get the machine working with the minimum of processes to show that it was not anti-virsu software,
Steam or the like causing interference.
I have changed out both of the HDDs this evening (a primary SSD and a secondary 1Tb HDD) for a clean hybrid 1Tb Seagate drive. Once I have installed all of the Asus drivers (and nothing else) I will try the speed test again and report back.
I can now report that with a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 and ONLY Asus drivers as supplied the issue remains. On a connection where I should see around 75mbps I am actually getting around 18mbps, sometimes considerably slower. This only affects
    my Asus machine.

  • Why the super slow internet connection on my MBP?

This falls into the category of FYI, or FWIW. I'm going to answer my question for the good of the community,
I suddenly noticed a significant reduction in my internet connection at home on my MacBookPro. According to speakeasy.net/speedtest I was getting over 11 Mbps down and 1.5 up before then suddenly I was down to 1 Mbps downloads and .25 uploads. I tried 3 browsers and an scp transfer via the terminal from my web server and all with the same results.
However, the mystery deepened when I tested other computers in the house and they were getting the original 11 Mbps. So, I took my computer downstairs next to the router and also got the original 11 Mbps. So, I went back upstairs, but instead of plugging in my old 23" Cinema display, I tested without. You know what happened, right? Yup, 11 Mbps. Plugged in the Cinema display and back down to 1 Mbps.
I have no idea what is going on, other something in the Cinema display is interferring with my wireless connection.

  • External hard-drive (NAS) treated as an internet connection

    Operating:
    - Windows 7
    - Office 2010
When opening an excel file from my NAS drive, I get the message "this file originated from an internet location and might be unsafe" with the option to click on "enable editing"
What I have done so far:
    - Enabled "allow trusted locations on my network"
    - Added the location of the NAS drive. (example:   \\XX-222X22\)
-- Enabled "subfolders of this location also trusted"
    But the problem remains.
When unboxing "enable protected view for files from the internet" the problem is resolved.
But off course I want actual files from the internet to be intercepted. So unchecking this box is not really an option.
    - The issue occurs with all excel files from the network hard drive (NAS drive)
    - It has the problem with all excel files. (.xlsx and .xls)
    - I have another computer on the network, running on windows vista, and the same version of excel.
This computer does not have any problems with any of the excel files.
And I never had to assign a trusted drive, or un-check the "enable protected view for files from the internet"
The question is why the external hard-drive (NAS) is treated as an internet connection.
    And how to fix this.
    All help is much appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Have you tried to add the NAS drive path in Local intranet through IE, see if it solve your problem, thank you.

  • Setting up home network with new and old Macs and 1GBps internet connection

I have a 1 GBps internet connection and want to take advantage of it. I have three 802.11ac capable Apple products - a Macbook Air, Macbook Pro and  Imac. The signal currently runs from an Aris modem into a  Netgear router that maxes out at 100mbps. My Apple Extreme (not the new one with 802.11ac) is connected to the Netgear , so choked at 100mbps. Everything runs off Wifi. I have run speedtests on all my computers and nothing runs over 50mbps in the current setup. I also run some home security stuff off "DDNS" that does not work with Apple products (thus the Netgear router) so I need to consider that too. I use two  802.11n extenders around the house. I am being told I cannot use the newer 802.11ac Extemes because it would not work with the DDNS Security stuff. What do I do to maximize speeds from Wifi and keep the DDNS stuff?

What do I do to maximize speeds from Wifi and keep the DDNS stuff?
For maximum Wi-Fi speeds only, use all 802.11ac devices ... both wireless routers & wireless clients. For full DDNS support, only use routers that support this feature.
For maximum overall bandwidth Internet-to-network client, use routers that support 1Gbps WAN-to-LAN & LAN-to-WAN interfaces. There are not many on the market currently that supports this. Also these routers should provide Gigabit Ethernet on both the WAN & LAN sides.
To get an idea of what's available, please check out the SmallNetBuilder's to compare routers.

  • How to publish a directory with datasocket to download the content via internet?

    Hi,
I have a VI, which makes a long scale measurement, thereby producing data in several subdirectories. I want to download the main directory, which comprises the data via internet, e. g. by ftp.
Can I do this with datasocket? Do I have to set up a ftp-server or can the datasocket-server act as an ftp?
Thanks for your help in advance.
    MB

You can write to an existing FTP server with datasocket. I know you can write text files, but I am not sure if you can use other file types. All you need to do is specify the URL of the ftp server you want to write to with the desired file name. For example, if I wanted to post a text file to NIs incoming ftp server I would use the following URL: FTP://ftp.ni.com/incoming/text.text[text].
You have to use the [text] extension to write to the file. Take a look at the attached screenshot. It will generate a sine wave, cast it to a string, write the file through datasocket, and then read in the same file and display it in a graph.

  • Can't sync contacts with yahoo account (and I do have internet connection!)

When I sync my iPhone 4 with my computer, it says it can't sync with my Yahoo account (as it has been for the past year) because I don't have an internet connection. I have wireless interent connection and I've checked everything - it's hooked up and I've tried to close out programs, restart etc. I have the latest iTunes version on my computer. Thank you for your help in advance...

OK, sounds like you are using Yahoo to store your contacts.  If you're having a problem with this, it is highly likely it is on Yahoo's end since they often have server issues, but two things you can try:
If you're currently on wi-fi, turn that off and see if you can access your contacts via 3G.
Try deleting the Yahoo account off your iPhone and re-create it.
Last week my Yahoo account was acting buggy and didn't get resolved until I did both (turned off wi-fi, then deleted and re-created the account over 3G).

  • RAID1 with FW800 drives

This used to work until I upgraded to 10.4.7 but....
I have 3 different RAID1 drive sets connected to a single 10.4.8 server. All six of the external drives are connected via FW800 with the drives all being 300GB.
For some reason after upgrading to 10.4.7, my drive sets are rebuilding daily with some out-and-out failing in the rebuild process. I thought I was experiencing a rash of defective drives, but each drive works flawlessly on it's own.
When I delete the RAID set the drives will mount 99% of the time as the server is power-cycled.
    Any ideas?

I don't think I would dare running shared FW disks and then having 6 of them hanging from the same FW 800 port(s) raided with RAID 1 (ouch)...
Depending on the case (cooling/power) and sleep they are probably not ideal as the main drives, as backup drives - fine.
