MBP 13 fully vs MBA 13 both fully loaded

How would MBP compare with MBA if I put a 256 SSD in it - both fully 'speced out ? Ignoring obvious weight differences and inner optical drive vs external - Would start up speed of MBP match or exceed MBA ? would MBP stay as quiet and cool as MBA if both running same apps both light use vs heavy use such as Photoshop etc ? I'm thinking of going this route and upgrading HD in MBP to SSD ?
Thanks

For many, the premium cost of the MBA is not warranted, nor is the system likely to meet their use case as well as a MBP. The MBP 13 is one heck of a system for the money. Unless ultra light weight is critical, there is not need to pay the premium, and take the drop in overall performance.
I agree with Craig. I think the price point and performance of the 13" MBP @ $1199 is probably one of the best deals that Apple offers in their portable lineup. It's an extremely capable machine with almost zero compromises.
Personally, as much I've enjoyed my MBA, I still prefer the 13" MBP. While I hardly ever use the optical drive in my machine anymore, I do regularly use FireWire and Ethernet connectivity.
Both machines are fantastic but you throw an SSD into a 13" MBP it really changes the game.

  • Why do My Playlists from iTunes on MBP Not fully load on my IPHONE

I have several playlists that are on my MBP and on my Iphone. For some reason, there is an issue syncing when connected.
The playlist name syncs over the the phone but not all the songs. For example, I have one playlist that has 89 songs. When I sync it to the IPHONE, it says succesfully synced but only 31 songs are in that playlist.
I did check and all the songs are in the both libraries (on my MBP AND Iphone) but the fully play list doesn't sync over. (89 songs on MBP and 31 on Iphone).
I also erased the lists and rebuilt them but no avail.
I did check the preferences and they are checked properly (playlists etc.). I do have room on the Iphone - there are still 2 GB on my Iphone...
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated....
    Skip

Its very frustrating. I really hope someone has an answer and can help.
I am considering rebuilding my Iphone (through Itunes) but am concerned. Whenever you do that, something gets lost, etc.
I have a feeling the Apple crew knows there is a problem but won't admit it until they have it corrected with a patch. I have seen that before.

  • Fully loaded Air or MBP??

My first post, so be gentle!!!
First off I have a 27" 2010 iMac.  Its great and I use Aperture 3 and Photoshop CS5 for my photography (hobby).  I now need to replace my (Windows) laptop and want either a fully loaded (max ram, max SSD and max processor) Air or a MBP (13" or 15").
The laptop, for the most part will be used for general email, facebook, skype, surfing etc etc.  For this I know the Air would be fine.  However, a couple of times a year we go on vacation for 5 - 6 weeks at a time, during which I need to be able to store and do some basic photo editing.
For example, Ive just come back from a 5 week trip and have about 2000 photos.
On the new laptop, in Aperture I would simply create a new project whilst away and export/import that into my iMac Aperture Library when I get home.  When Im away I primerily use Photoshop to stitch panarama's together, and then bring those into Aperture.
To add more complication, Im starting to get into taking short movie clips with the DSLR - these will also need to be stored and possibly tweaked whislt away (iMovie / Final Cut Pro??).
So question - this will not be my main machine, so would a fully loaded Air (1.8Ghz dual-core i7 with max ram) handle, without significant performance issues Aperture 3 and Photoshop CS5 whilst Im on vacation?. If not, looks like i'll need the quad core i5 or i7 on the MBP!
    Any real world experience?
    Thanks
    Jon

I would like to join in on this topic - with a twist though.
I bought the fully loaded MBA 13-inch hardly 2 weeks ago. Already in the first weekend I experienced really poor battery life. Like under 3 hours - with precautions taken, like shutting off bluetooth, turning down screen brightness and calibrating the battery (though they say it is not necessary now on the Apple site). Therefore, I contacted Apple Support last Friday. They say I can return my computer and get a replacement or the money back. So all is fine in that way.
My question is this: I really loved everything about the MBA (except the battery) - but now I have doubts on whether to get the exact same replacement or buy the Macbook Pro 13-inch. What are people's experience with the longevity of MBA vs MB Pro battery life?? And wich model should I get, if you recommend MB Pro 13-inch (GB, Ghz etc.)?
As this is my first Mac I just hope to be as happy with my purchase as other Mac-owners are :-).
NB: I use it for surfing (and my job as webmaster), light photo editing, watching videoes, listening to iTunes and so on.

  • Youtube videos doesn't play until fully loaded

Youtube videos doesn't play until they are fully loaded. It doesn't work for ANY streamed video, not just Youtube. It happens on both Firefox and IE. I tried to uninstall Flash and re-install it, but it didn't help. The only thing that solves it is restarting the computer, but it just returns after some time.
    How can I fix it?

Hi, This is the info on the hardware acceleration and system requirements. http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/help01.html
The video card affects playback:Although Flash Player can display high-quality video and images by itself, hardware-accelerated scaling uses the video or graphics card on your computer to display images and video more clearly and quickly than Flash Player can on its own.
Not everyone can use it and that's why turning it off helps. Since you have it turned off, then this no longer affects you.
They may be some add on in the browser that is causing this. Kaspersky had been using a URL Advisor that is an "extension"
but whether you have it I don't know. In IE, in the manage add ons, look for "Show"(very light text) and look in all 4 categories for it.
In FF, it may be in the extensions. I'd look in all, addons, plugins & extenstions.
If you find it, disable it. If you don't find it, then all I could suggest is to disable all IE add ons except Shockwave Flash Object and Java and see it there is an improvement. Then do the same with FF.
Hope you find out what is causing it.
    Thanks,
    eidnolb

  • Adobe flash videos now only show up/play once fully loaded.

All online flash related videos used to start playing once I hit play. They would continue to load as they played. This changed a month or so ago. Now after I hit play I just get the blank screen UNTIL the video fully loads. Then it plays. I thought for a while my flash was broke even after uninstalling/installing ect until I left it on a video I tried to play one day. I then realized it had been working, but not showing the video until fully loaded. I am running the newest firefox and adobe flash. Doesnt matter what browser I use. Trid most of the quick fixes online. Any simple setting to change it back to play the video from the get go? Any help would be great! I am running version 11,5,502,146 for flash player on Windows 7 64-bit. Any updates?

Please check out the video troubleshooting guide.  Disabling hardware acceleration might resolve this for you.
Instructions for finding this information can be found here:
    - Windows - http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html
Sometimes video and audio problems are caused at a lower level and not directly related to Flash Player.  I recommend trying both of the links below to see how they perform.  If the problem exists with both, then Flash Player is most likely not the culprit as the HTML5 video link does not use Flash Player when playing.  You can verify this by right clicking the HTML5 video and looking for the words "About HTML5" at the bottom of the menu.

On Firefox, websites do not fully load (missing background colors). Missing click boxes for advance to another page in a website or making choices. I have to skim along in an area with my mouse till I see the arrow change to a hand, but is it a yes when I want a no?. I've seen this on both my desktops, at home and at my office.

Make sure that you allow pages to choose their colors and that you haven't enabled High Contrast in the Accessibility settings.

  • Tabs keep showing that they're loading, but when selected show that they are fully loaded

Here's my problem - happens in Firefox 4 both at home and at my office.
When I open the browser some tabs fully complete loading, the others appear fully loaded when selected, however each tab shows the spinning 'loading' icon and says 'loading'.
I have to 'restart FF with add-ons disabled,' then close it and wait a minute, and then reopen and it's fine.
I've tried disabling and re-enabling one by one, and I've tried wiping them all out and re-adding them, I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox. I even went back to 3.6 and then updated to 4.0.
I'm scratching my head with this one, mainly because it's happening on two different machines. Any help would be much appreciated

  • Getting a movie to be playable before it fully loads

I'm building a site with quicktime movies. How can I get the movie to be playable while it's still loading? Right now you have to wait for the movie to fully load before you even see the controls.
    thanks.
    David

The "fast start" (progressive download) feature is both a property of the file and a special (autoplay="true") html tag of the Web page. It is an option found at export that many users overlook. It is also "turned off" by most of the default iMovie exports.
Using .Mac servers the Homepage feature defaults to autoplay="true" while iWeb software uses "false".
You would need to edit the html page code (after the file is published) when using iWeb to alter the tag code. New to iWeb 1.1 (and 1.1.1) is that they place the .mov file into a .js (javascript) file. It's hard to find for many users.
Maybe, if you explained where your page code is hosted, we could examine it and make some better explanations.

As Hawaiian_Starman suggests, try a different user account to see if the same problem occurs. If Safari works fine in there, I'd guess it's one/both of the above 3rd party plugins you have installed that are causing the crashes.

  • Very Slow Video that Does Not Fully Load on Macbook Pro

    Hi,
I have a macbook pro from 2007 (Mac OS X 10.4.11) and I have never had any issues with streaming video until yesterday. I have fast internet, and I can browse quickly, but my video is recently being very slow and won't fully load. It always says 14 out of 16 things loaded or some other number when I try to play a video. I have tried resetting Safari and emptying my cache to speed it up several times with no luck. I have Safari 4.1.2. I am wondering what I need to do to get this fixed as soon as possible because there are some important videos I need to watch for classes.
Thanks so much for your help!

Do you have the same problem w/streaming videos using other browsers? Suggest that you re-post over in the Safari for Mac forums as your problem is not MBP related but rather software.

  • Bing web page will not fully load

    Hello,
I have a windows 8.1 64 pro workstation on the network that will not fully load bing.com or any search link from the MSN home page.   As far as I can tell every other web page loads correctly just not anything with bing.   I tested
    in Chrome - same issue.
The bing page only loads the choices at the top left of the page.
The search box only has an orange square - no magnifying glass.
There is no bing background picture.
There is no scrolling picture bar at the bottom of bing.    If I copy a working result Bing search url from another PC - it still only shows a fraction a bing search page - none of the results.
    Google search works fine.
Chrome shows only the partial bing search page - same as IE.
I've have checked the ip - no problems with dns or gateway.
I've tried using 8.8.8.8 for the dns server - still won't load the page in ie or chrome.
I've tried loading a new windows profile - still won't load the page in ie or chrome.
I've checked the hosts file - no entries.
I've run multiple types of virus checks including malwarebytes & Symantec.
    I've applied all windows updates.
I've reset IE to defaults - obviously that won't help since chrome can't load it either.
There are no domain policies applied.
There are now ie addins - again - wouldn't impact chrome.
There are no unusual applications installed.
It is not using IE 64 bit - again wouldn't impact chrome.

    Hi,
According to your description, since both IE and Chrome has same problem, it's not browser problem.
Have you tried to disable firewall and Symantec temporarilly for test?
If problem persists, firstly start system with Clean boot. Then using Process Monitor to capture the trace of accessing bing.com.

  • Brand new 2012 fully loaded iMac is slower then my two year old iMac when using Final Cut.

Just got a new 2012 iMac with 32GB RAM 3.4 Ghz and 3TB Fusion Drive and 2GB Graphics card.
Now Final Cut runs even slower than it does on my old, lesser iMac. What gives?
How Do I optimize the speed in which the video files are played?
    I'm using Final Cut 7.
Files are all 1080 Pro Res.
All files are running off of my desktop (locally).
I press play and it is delayed a second before playing on the timeline.
I thought this fully loaded machine was to help me edit faster.
Is the Fusion Drive doing something funny with the file access that causes a delay in playback?
The problem is, the same issue happened when I put the files on an external FW800 G-Drive.
    Any advice would be awesome.
    Thanks Community!
    -Tedshots

are you sure all your files...render files...scratch disk, etc were all pointed to the FW800 drive?
are you trying to play the exact same files in the same manner and see the new imac slower or does it just "seem" slower. You could, for instance, be attempting to play a more compressed file on the new iMac or a higher resolutidon compressed file....we don't know any of that. Apple to Apples, as it were, the new machine will obviously outperform the other one and there are too many variables you haven't covered to be able to draw any real conclusions....tell us more about the specific kinds of files, timeline resolution, video res on both machines and in what way the new one is slower....

  • I have started using Roboform Lite 2.0.0, after Roboform it takes to much time to open Firefox and when i open a new tab, until the tab is fully loaded, Firefox is not responding. Please help.

    After installing Roboform 2.0.0;
Starting Firefox started to take too much time.

  • Mail won't fully load messages

Ever since updating to 10.4.5, I open Mail, and the circle that shows the progress gets to about 50% to 95% (differs every time) and then hangs. I let it sit for an hour, still nothing. The only way to stop it is to force quit, and sometimes that takes a minute or two. My modem light is blinking like it's transferring data from the 'net, but Mail never fully loads the messages. I can see the headers, but clicking on them gives me the spinning beach ball and Mail says 'Loading Message' in the preview box.
    Thanks.

Does this happen with all messages or only specific messages.
It sounds like that this might be an HTML email and Mail is trying to download images from a remote site. Perhaps the remote site is down or a certain image within the email is linked wrong and Mail is trying to download an image that isn't there.
That's a big problem with HTML emails. Try viewing plain text emails and see if you get the same result.
