MBP 13" Retina late 2012 display issue

Hi,
I have a problem since the upgrade to Maverick :
This is happening :
With the display setup configured to have more space (1680x1050 if i'm right)
After playing a game in 1440x900 or after I connect my TV in HDMI with a replication of the screen between laptop and TV (meaning the retina screen is used in 1920x1080)
After those action, if my MBP go to sleep mode because I don't use it, at wake up I have the display issue at the bottom.
This appeared with maverik, I had no issue before.
If some one have some idea ?
My current work arround is that, after playing game or using my MBP on my TV, I change the screen scale and then the problem is not happening.

  • MBP 13 retina late 2012 - display problems with wifi

    Hello!
I writing you about a problem i'm having since i bought my MBP retina in October 2012 but now that i'm in Russia is really worring me. I've been in a Genius Bar back at home in Italy but i couldn't show them the problem with the display because it was very occasionally and it never happened while i was in the apple shop. The apple genius run a kind of testing program and apparently my mac is ok. Now i also know that this problem happens only when the wifi is on. The display is flicking ( i hope this is the correct word) and actually it was just rarely in italy but since i'm in russia i can't use my mac while i'm connected because this problem is constant and much much stroger.
I noticed that the only way to stop this problem is to make a bridge with my finger from the alluminium chassis of the mbp to the black part at the bottom of the display. If i do this the flickering stops. So i'm somehow thinking it is an electric problem, and maybe in russia there is a different tension in the electricity or something else that makes this problem bigger.
I will also traveling for the next 5 months and so i can't bring my laptop to an apple store in italy. I don't know if i can bring it to another apple store around the world to fix the problem, and i don't know if i will have a 2 years warranty like i have in italy.
I'm very angry with the genius i've been in italy because he didn't believe my problem and he didn't investigate further. I was there in April or May and i still had the first year warranty. Now i'm traveling for the next 5 months and i super need my mac because i'm a travel blogger and as u can understand it is very important for me.
I hope someone can help me.
    Thank you
    Dan

thanks! yeah i recorded it so i hope they will take the problem more seriously.
Unfortunately i don't have an applecare protection plan, but i hope that the proof that i've been in an apple store for the same issue already in april will help me somehow.
I also think that when i touch with my hand both chassis and display i make some connection working again. Maybe i'm the radioactive man, or i have some special powers...or for the first time time in my life i bought a bugged apple product. But i think is more possible one of the first two options!

  • Shift key randomly gets locked without being pressed (mbp 13" retina, late 2012)

I've been looking everywhere for answers for this problem, with no success (although many people raise similar questions on older models).
My MBP 13" retina 10.8.2 is new, clean, nothing spilled on it.
Ocassionally I connect it to external keyboard and mouse (USB or BT).
Regardless of that, sometimes the SHIFT key gets randomly locked - Without being pressed (whether the native keyboard, or when connected to external).
I could just be browsing the internet or be viewing a document in Word or GDocs, and suddenly - while mouse-scrolling - things will get selected, and the mouse-click becomes SHIFT-Click only.
When it happens, disconnecting/reconnecting the external keyboard or mouse has no effect - the problem persists.
The only workaround I found is to put it to SLEEP when it happens, and immediately wake it up.
The problem started a few weeks ago, and the behavior is completely random (it can happen twice in 10 minutes, or once a week).
    Any ideas anyone?

  • Macbook Pro Retina Late 2013 Display Issue (w/ Picture)

    Hi!
Last night while updating my macbook I noticed an strange problem. It seems like 1/3 of my screen has the retina display while the remaining screen has a weird transparent tint covering the screen. If I take a screen shot using my macbook, there is no noticeable problem. However, the picture I took earlier today using my
iPhone 5 can give you a picture of my current problem. I also had a bit of "ghosting image" even after shutting down the computer and rebooting. I took the machine to Apple today and they said since I am in my 13th month, I am out of luck. They told me that I need to get my whole screen replace ($280). I am really disappointed because I barely had this machine and took great care of it. Has anyone have this problem?

With the initial LG Retina display, folks were seeing image retention. Thereafter it seems that Apple was replacing the screen with Samsung screens, which exhibited a yellow-ish tint. There haven't been many complaints of image retention or tinting on the Late 2013 models even though the screens may be LG or Samsung. It looks as if Apple finally got it just right.
However, as I understand it, Apple is still using the older screens for replacement parts. The only thing that I can advise is to keep having the screen replaced until you get one that you can live with. The tinting in your photo is obvious and I know of no way to 'calibrate' a warm screen to get an acceptable white point.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013 Compatibility issue with Bose Companion 5 USB Speakers on Mavericks

Hi, I wonder if somebody has compatibility issues of new MacBook Pro Retina (late 2013) and Bose Companion 5 USB speakers? They work fine on a left USB port on my MacBook Pro, but doesn't work at all on a right one: USB speakers are not recognised or if recognised as "Uknown Audio Device", they doesn't work any way and iTunes stops playing till I take USB cable out.
I tested them already on two identical machines - the same issue: left USB port works fine, right one - not.
While comparing, I tested this audio device also with other MacBooks:
MacBook Pro 15" 2008 (Mavericks) - both USB ports work fine
MacBook 13" 2010 (Mountain Lion) - both USB ports work fine
MacBook Pro 13" Retina early 2013 (Mavericks) - both USB ports work fine
So it is somehow related exactly to the MacBook Pro Retina 15" Retina late 2013 with Maverics. I guess some sound card and USB port communication issue. Does any body exeriences such problems as well?

    Hi,
Im having USB problems with storage devices and android phone connections

  • SSD in MBP 13" Retina Late 2013 doesn't work - Can't boot at all

I have a new MacBook Pro 13" Retina which works flawlessly. It has a factory installed 512 GB SSD, which also works flawlessly. Then I bought basically the same type of 512 GB SSD, 2nd hand but new, which I intended to install in another MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013.
The seller told me it is compatible with the MBP Retina Late 2013, but when installed, the known to be good MBPR doesn't boot. Not from that SSD, not from an attached USD HDD which has two perfectly bootable Mavericks partitions. When pressing the alt-Key on booting, I can however see two partitions on that SSD (Mac OS X 10.8.4 and a Recovery Partition), yet it is not booting at all, thus also doesn't allow me to inspect or treat this SSD with Disk Utility or other tools.
All I get is the grey screen with the striked through circle sign (see attached image). I've tried both, PRAM reset and SMC reset, no change.
Here comes the interesting part: Although both SSD look identical, they have slightly different model and part numbers (see attached image).
Working, factory installed SSD: Model MZ-JPUS512T/0A6. Part No. 665-1805D
    Non-booting, 2nd hand SSD: Model MZ-JPUS512T/0A2. Part No. 665-1805A
Any ideas what’s going on here and how to solve this?

    Excellent point! Mac OS X 10.9.1 doesn’t equal Mac OS X 10.9.1!
Back in the bad old days of Mac OS X Install DVDs, I was aware of the fact that there were different versions of the OS X Installer testing against the Mac ID to make sure that bundled versions get only installed on those Macs which the DVD came with. And the DVD where clearly labeled in that sense.
Now in the days of Internet download and installation from USB sticks, SSD and HDD, one completely forgets about this. On the other hand, with Mavericks being free, I don’t understand the need for such limitations, and not at least the recovery partition allows booting any Mac which supports Mavericks.
When you boot with the alt-Key pressed and you see at least one partition with Mac OS X 10.9.1, one just doesn’t understand why the heck the Mac doesn’t boot. Now I do. Apple would be well advised to simply add a short info line, like „This version of Mac OS X is missing components to boot this Mac. Please re-install from the AppStore using this computer“. It would take out A LOT of guesswork.
Anyhow… I booted the MBPR using the working SSD, installed Mavericks from the AppStore on the external USB HDD, switched the SSDs, booted from the external USD HDD’s now bootable 10.9.1 Recovery Partition, wiped the suspicious non-booting SSD and installed Mavericks. No further problems. (Completely forgot about the CMD-OPT-R Internet Recover Mode keg55 has mentioned…)
    Thanks for the hint!

  • Graphic glitches MBP retina Late 2012 (HDMI/games)

Hi To everyone!!! First of all, I am new user so I would like to salute all members of the forum. I am looking forward to be part of this community!!
I am new here so I will try to be as clear as I possibly can. My apologies if I not very good explaining these problems. I have experience two issues lately with my graphic cards. I think that they are becoming more often.
First, when I connect my MBP retina to the TV using the HDMI cable to watch something, the connection is lost briefly (1-2 sec), the TV goes black and then it reconnects again by itself. The TV shows the resolution  (samsung TV) and everything goes back to normal. This happens after 3-7min after I connected the MBP. I have tried disabling the sleep mode of the computer (I thought the computer could be trying to suspend itself) but it didn't fix it. Any ideas of what may be causing this????
Second, when I open a game or when I connect to the TV the screen goes off!!! What I mean is that the display shows "static" (I mean like when the analog TVs use to show a black and white fuzz when no signal was detected.) Sometimes it fixes itself and sometimes I need to reboot. Any ideas?????
    Thank you very much!!!
    Best wishes,
    Tony

  • MBP Retina and Second Display issues

I'm using a Macbook Pro with retina display and having a hard time really understanding how it translates to a normal 72dpi screen, so I hooked up a second computer, this is what photoshop looks like on it...
    Suggestions?

Disable GPU drawing in Photoshop's preferences, and let Apple know about their video driver problems.

  • Macbook retina late 2013 display/graphics issues.

    Am I going crazy?!
When I look at my screen, every now and then  my eye gets distracted by what I can only describe as wobble.  It is like images are moving ever, ever so slightly.  I'm talking infinitessimaly small amounts.  I convince myself I am imagining it, then I notice it again, as if letters warp.  It is so minor I am not even sure I know what I am seeing, but it feels like hard work on my eyes to use the screen, a feeling I don't get from using my iphone or ipad.  But I don't know how I could show it to someone, it's not like there is something definitively there?!  The most I notice it is on the vice website.  The grey letters used for VICE TODAY, and the black letters used for the article titles often seem weird.  As if the very, very edges of the letters are not quite fixed in position, fuzzy almost.  Is there anyway to test for weird things like this?
Also, it judders as I scroll pages, this thing has 16GB of ram!?  My RM Nimbus could do better!
Does anyone know what I mean, or am I simply going crazy?

Additionally, you can run the Apple Diagnostics test from home, though it would not be as reliable as Apple's in house diagnostics in detecting an issue:

  • Macbook Pro Retina late 2013 Display Yellowish Screen

I am Mac user for last 7 years. I have 3 other Mac at home. The latest one I bought is a Retina Display. First time I saw a Mac with a Yellow screen. I have tryied to calibrate, but not much success. Then I took it to an Apple service centre, they madeout the differece and replaced the screen after 7 days. But after replacing, the problem is still there. I just can not accept yellow screen as I am so used to with white screen on my other Macs.
Now the question is how do I solve it?

With the initial LG Retina display, folks were seeing image retention. Thereafter it seems that Apple was replacing the screen with Samsung screens, which exhibited a yellow-ish tint. • MBP 15.4 late 2008 display distortion

    Dear all,
I am having an progressive problem with distortion of a 2' band of pixels om my MBP (late 2008).
    Any advice what to do?
Already checked the cables that connect the lcd/lid to the body and they are tight and clean.
Thanks for any reply and if its not fixable what is wise to do?

i should add, my display came with a dvi-d to hdmi cabel, which works fine with my mini's dvi port. but using mini-displayport to dvi adaptor + dvi-d to hdmi cable doesn't work.
i guess i will have to wait for a third-party adaptor

  • Wifi drops connection sporadic (MBP 13" Retina late 2013)

    Hi,
    my problem:
The Wifi connection drops every 10-20 minutes, sometimes even more often, and reconnects automatically after a few seconds. When the Wifi is connected it shows full connectivity. There are about 10 other devices in the network, none of them has the same problems - the connection is perfectly fine with every other device in the Network.
    my setup:
The router is a Apple Time Capsule (newest generation) there are NO other wireless networks in my area - my wireless network is the only one i see in the list of available networks, so no interference with other networks possible.
    what i already tried:
I completely wiped my hard drive and installed OSX Yosemite - the system is clean, no iCloud or Time Machine Backups!
I'm quite sure it's a hardware problem. I hope for some infos whats the next step from here?
    Thanks.

    Hi Moriartie,
I read your problem carefully. From the above stated problem I can assure you that your macs hardware is perfectly fine because even I
have a 13’’ retina macbook pro late 2013 model running Mavericks and it absolutely works like a charm.
The only mistake you did is by upgrading to Yosemite from Mavericks. Currently, I am running Mavericks version 10.9.5 and the machine is working flawlessly
without any hardware or software issues.
Just see in the comments section of Yosemite in the App Store of people complaining about their macs Wi-Fi issues after upgrading to Yosemite from Mavericks ( They had no Wi-Fi issues on Mavericks, late 2013 rMBP).
The only way right now is to return back to Mavericks some how until the Wi-fi bug issues get sorted out on Yosemite. Hope this might help. Sorry for the late reply.
    Regards,
    Grane Duke.

  • MacBook Pro Retina with Thunderbolt Display Issues

I have issues when connecting my MacBook Pro to the Thunderbolt Display when I don't do a fresh boot of the MacBook Pro.  It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does, the Thunderbolt Display usually turns on succesfully, but none of my USB devices (mouse, keyboard) respond and when I try to disconnect the Thunderbolt, the MacBook doesn't realize it's been disconnected and thus I'm just left with the background screen and have to shut it down by holding the power button for a few seconds.
With a fresh boot, everything works fine.  Are you supposed to have to shut down and restart everytime you hook up this monitor?  Has anyone had these issues?

I have the exact same issue. I hauled the TB Display into the Apple Store 3 times and finally they replaced it. Come to find out this new one has the same issue still. So It has to be rMBP related at this point. Unfortunately I don't think I have it under warranty still and the issue is hard to demonstrate. I recorded videos of it but every time I go into the store and plug it is the same as switching the speakers from internal to external and it takes 30-60 mins before it degrates to scratching sounds.
Please let me know if you ever foudn a solution. Im going to try to keep taking it in until I can get this resolved.
