MBP 15' i5 2010 Model + vga adapter and projector issue

Dear All,
my MBP always got screen crash (green / purple screen) when i use a VGA adapter in miniport to projector,
I have to hard reset. it's strange that, after rebooting, it doesn't crash when I connect to the projector again.
but next time when i connect to project, it crashes again
i tried different VGA adapters, still the same.
any ideas?
Thanks a lot!

it was ok if i connect to my Dell Monitor
but crashed at the first time when connecting to any projector

No. You need a converter box like this to go with your MDP-VGA adapter:

  • Connect two external monitors to mini DP(using a mini DP to VGA adapter) and the VGA out at once

I am trying to  connect two external monitors to mini DP(using a mini DP to VGA adapter) and the VGA out at once. Windows recognize both monitors as well. But it dowsn't let me use all three monitors at once(see the below image). In the dropdown, it lists all three monitors. Problem is there are two active displays I can select.

The GPU(s) in your T400 (and most other laptop brands) will support two different displays concurrently.  If you want to support more than two different displays concurrently, you will need another GPU external to the T400.
Generally, if you want to use two external displays on a T400 you will nee dto use a docking station.
I have read messages on various fora on this topic and know that there are a number of ways of doing this, but as I have never had a need to do this myself I can't tell you how to go about it.

A DVI to VGA adapter provides a conversion from DVI to VGA.
A DVI to DVI adapter, what is that? If the input is DVI and the output is DVI, what is the need for an adapter?

I have a VGA adapter and an iPad2.  Tried projecting my iPad2 to projector using the VGA but doesn't work.  Tried it with friend's iPad1 and it works.  Why??  Pls help.

Yup - nothing happens.  I then took the same VGA cable and plugged it into my friend's iPad1 and it worked perfectly when she opened Keynote.  My understanding is that the iPad2 mirrors the entire screen, so no need to go into any specific application in order to project to the screen, right?  Do I need to download any specific app or change any settings in order to be able to project the screen using VGA?
Sorry - novice at this.  Not very tech minded either...

  • How can I run a vga monitor and projector together on my Mac Pro 15"??

How can I run a vga monitor and projector together on my Mac Pro OSX 15"?

You can upgrade to Snow Leopard, Lion or Mountain Lion (coming next month), but you need Snow Leopard to upgrade to Lion or Mountain Lion. Check this web to know how to add memory to your computer and the memory that it supports (probably, 3 GB).

  • My MBP Retina doesn't allow the use of two Thunderbolt to DVI adapters. It only works with one TB - VGA adapter and one TB - DVI adapter. However now the color on the VGA connected monitor is slightly different.

The monitors are Viewsonic VA2406m-LED. The Display preferences show all three monitors but one monitor always says "No Signal" if they are both connected TB -> DVI.
The Color on the VGA connected one is slighly off. It seems like I should be able to connect two DVI monitors not sure why this is stopped. Does it have something to do with the Graphics card?

The problem was with the newEgg adapter. I just went to the Apple Store and bought an Apple adapter and the monitor now displays correctly.
For future reference, in case anyone experiences this problem:
the newEgg adapter is part number 9SIA1PU0P88920, described as a Thunderbolt Mini Displayporrt Display Port DP to DVI Adapter for APPLE Macbook Pro Air and the full description says it works for macbook pro, etc.
when this adapter is used, the macbook pro recognizes the monitor, but the monitor displays nothing.
When the apple adapter (MB507Z/B Mini Display Port to DVI Adapater) is used, the monitor displays correctly.
Of course, the individual newEgg part might simply be defective, but I doubt it.  moral -- spend the extra $$ and buy the Apple adapter.

  • VGA Adapter and 1920x1080

I have an odd problem with my 2011 MBP (15").  I use an external monitor (Samsung SA350, identified as SMS23A350H by the mac) hooked up to a KVM switch using the VGA port.  The display support 1920x1080@60hz.  It gets detected as such, and everything works fine when I close the lid and only use the external monitor.  However, when I open the lid and try to use both displays (mirroring off), the content of the external monitor is compressed -- There's about an inch of black on the left side of the monitor, and a half inch on the right.
The thing is, all of the content is displayed -- it's just shrunk down to a smaller size.  The MBP thinks it's running at 1920x1080.  About the only difference I see between the bad setup and the good one is that the monitor identifies its signal as "67.4khz 60hz NN" vs "67.4khz 60hz PP".  I don't know what NN and PP mean, and Google is little help.
It's not the cable or the KVM switch, since it works correctly with the lid closed.  It also works correctly using a DVI adapter instead of the VGA, even with the lid open.  The same monitor/cable/KVM setup worked fine on my old (2008) MBP.  Has anyone seen this before?

If you are showing a "non-plug and play" monitor in the Windows device manger, I would guess is a problem with the "DDC-EDID" communictaion link between the computer and the monitor. Either the monitor isn't reporting, the computer isn't reading, or the link (cable) is damaged. If you have another monitor and/or computer and/or VGA cable, try swapping them around to determine where the issue is.
    Examples...
    1) HP Elite H8-1240t with different monitor
    2) HP W2371d monitor with different computer
    3) Repeat 1 or 2 with a different VGA cable
    4) Try a different DVI-to-VGA dongle adapter with the HP Elite H8-1240t and HP W2371d monitor
    5) Try a different VGA cable with the HP Elite H8-1240t and HP W2371d monitor
    6) Try a different DVI-to-VGA dongle adapter and a different VGA cable with the HP Elite H8-1240t and HP W2371d monitor
If you can't identify the issue from the steps above, you may wish to manually set the Windows resolution to 1920 x 1080 and set the refresh rate to 59 or 60 Hz.

  • Can i connect ipad 3 to aprojector throught vga adapter and can i then mirror keynote presentations

can i connect my ipad 3 to aprojector throught vga adapter to mirror keynote presentations

I don't know if there is a Dock-To-VGA Adapter in the Store, but there is a Dock-To-HDMI-Adapter.
Newer projectors have an HDMI-Input-Slot. (30$ Adapter +10$ HDMI-Cable (if it doesn't exists)
    You also could buy on top a HDMI-To-VGA-Adapter (30$ Adapter1 + 30$ Adapter2 + 10$ VGA-Cable (if it doesn't exists))
An deluxe solution would be an Apple-TV
    + HDMI-Cable
    or + HDMI-To-VGA-Adapter + VGA-Cable
now you can use AirPlay by setting up an adhoc WLAN from your iPad which the Apple TV can use.
Cause I have an Apple TV, I take that with me with the adhoc WLAN setup of my iPhone.
All settings are done, so it's only a plug in at the room where to hold that presentation. Wirelessly from my iPhone Keynote-App via AirPlay to AppleTV (Mirrow or as second screen, with seeing notes and controls on my iPhone) and from Apple TV to the projector.

  • Macbook pro 15" 2010 model has a graphics card issue.

Apple are aware of a fault on the 2010 model of the Macbook pro. This requires a full motherboard replacement. Apple have known about this for a long time and had a repair program running which they didnt tell anyone about. Problem is after 3 years they refuse to fix anymore and the customer now sits with the problem. After spending 6 months trying to find cause of the problem finally found someone at Apple who knew about the program and tested my machine. Fault was confirmed by Apple technician but now Apple refuses to fix as past 3 year mark.
How many other secret issues exist in Apple which you pay a premium price for but get screwed by the supplier. Didnt expect this from Apple.

I have done what you suggested. However, I have to disagree with you about the 'third party' comment. Although those minor issues were on there which I picked up on shortly afterwards, they were easily removed. It hasn't CHANGED the symptoms I described about my mac. Both items are removed (growl only tends to make your mac 'lag' and that's not the problem I'm having)
I am still having all the above issues, regardless of my mac being fully minus third party items. This mac hasn't had any heavy use, or had many applications installed on it ect, there is really no reason for it to be failing. I'd understand if it was old, but it's literally only just passed being 3 years old.
If you can provide any more help that would be appreciated, thank you!
